jumobi1:
How is investigating the age of a lady whose father wants to rule Nigeria irrelevant when it’ll help determine his true age? We ignore rationality when tribe is involved. This is why we are failing.
The tribalism is beyond understanding. It is sad and pathetic. Those who carry tribe in their head are losers. What has tribe don e for any of you? Ok, you are yoruba, how does that give you a decent and good standard of living, ok you are Igbo, how does that give you a good standard of living? Politicians will always unite to continue to bleed this nation while they use myopic and fanatical poverty stricken individuals to cause distraction with tribalistic nonsense.

What is so bad to ask the true age of a Nigerian politician? Who intends to run for president? But yet those who life if already dealing with so bad will still be defending those who have put them in their miserable condition. A Yoruba man being president does not automatically put food on Yoruba people's table....hunger does not know tribe....so if you guys like, continue with your foolish tribalism, it will only ensure your remain hungry and miserable......

SportsRe: Lampard Accuses VAR Of Favouring Manchester United by MrBendel(m): 4:24am On Jul 19, 2020
SmartProf:
Is VAR responsible for opposition players getting into your penalty area in attempt of scoring? I hate excuses...build your team as an aggressively attacking one and see if they will not sweep away opponents and have numerous goal attempts, so much so that VAR will even have reasons to review possible stuffs. To majorly depend on VAR's favour in winning games, you must be attempting to score goals.
Try and understand what he is saying. There is a reason why VAR is there. Even if there are a 1000 attempts at a teams goal, the moment there is an incident requiring VAR decision, then it should be the right one since it was brought in to ensure only right decisions are made. It has nothing to do with the number of attempts a team makes at its opposition, at least we all know that it is not who has the highest attempt on goal that wins the game, it is who scores..

brainpower:
I don't really blame these private schools for some of their rules. Even though know that as adults these rules aren't right, they are left with no choice we abuse most of these things in this country and without forcefully taking some of these privileges away from students their school ratings won't increase. Not that they aren't abused outside the country too, but over there, they have managed to increase their ratings without stopping these things.
It can't be just coincidence that the schools that have these rules are rated as the best Private universities e.g. Covenant. While igbinedion that has been there before all of them is still struggling to cope in ratings.

This is not to undermine any school, but to state facts.
For those that will site public universities, know that the rate of cultism and various vices are very high there.
And I actually graduated from a public university so I know what I'm saying.
Have you ever interviewed a first class student from some of these schools. They have not social or communication skill to make it through the corporate world. Let me inform you, universities is not about theoretical education, it is about applied education. We continue to treat university students are children rather than adults thats why you still see childish behaviour from people who are 21years old. its because the universtiy has not created an environment for true higher learning. Having a smart phone does not drive cultism, or other social issues in the schools, its the lack of the proper environment, what is the investment in sports in the school or other applied life skills? none. I advise they reconsider their position, sikena.

finalboss:
In a new notice released on the 28th of August 2016 via the website of Afe Babalola University, fresh and returning undergraduate students for the 2016/2017 Academic session were briefed on new rules, including the ban on smartphones. In their words,

"Mobile Phone ; The University would allow students to use telephone but limited to non-smartphones. Any TELEPHONE aside the University’s specification, inclusive of TABLETS or IPADS shall be CONFISCATED and the Student shall be SANCTIONED"

Twitter Users (some students) however
expressed displeasure.
When they should be talking about ICT Hubs advancing Technology integration into their system, they are banning Smart phones. Continued failure in leadership. They can only view the negatives rather than the positives in having smart devices. At university level, one of the important learning points is how teenagers can manage themselves, their time and be more responsible. Universities keep treating students as kids rather than training them to be adults.

It is very disappointing to see this from the school. Very obvious that the management of the school is old school.

Sometimes I'm tempted to think we are our own bane in this part of the world.

Why do most Nigerian don't value anything Nigerian?. ...whereas they are quick to jump at anything tagged imported or foreign, even if its produced in our back yard.

though not putting up defense for Glo as it were , but I think we need to change our mindset and habit towards anything Nigerian.

Naija shall rise.

Buying Nigeria product or services does not mean we should accept poor quality of product or service. Ben should also be telling Glo that the customer is king and service should be improved. Moreover, MTN and Airtel are well invested in Nigeria in the real sector and not just briefcase FDI. They have created Jobs and opportunities for other companies so Ben's comment is not applicable here.

2. Amaechi is a disgusting hypocrite. This is the same man that sunk over a 100 billion naira on light rail project when port harcourt was in dire need of good roads and power.
3. The value of the Land is subjective. It is not for you to say whether it is expensive or not. The land owner knows and sets the value of the land.
Honestly, do you think it is valuable for the government and the people to pay 13 billion for the land, while that money can pay for the land and build a good portion of the school? I do believe some level of work should continue on the school development, if the funds are available (as we know, Nigeria is abit stranded with Money). At least funds can be secured from NDDC for continuing the development while the Law retrieves the money from those who embezzled it. this is the way forward.

I wouldn't even waste my time reading this rubbish because this is obviously from a pained yoruba boy hiding somewhere in Osun state and typing rubbish.

Listen we have had enough of the excuses and arm twisting and the agitation won't stop with the Avengers except the government addresses pressing issues that concerns the region

The federal government exchanged crude oil from the Niger Delta to develope Abuja we want that replicated in Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers and Akwa Ibom.

Stop blaming our leaders for the injustice metted on the region by the Nigerian state...

The likes of T.Y Danjuma, Indimi, Dantata, Atiku and the others are not from this region yet they have fed fat and are still feeding fat from our resources dont even think of pitching us against our leaders. We are wiser... the agitation must continue until govt does the needful
Ask your self this question...since 1999 what have the governors done with over 6 trillion share amongst just 4 of the Niger delta states. In 2013 alone rivers aka biomass and delta state budget was 60 percent of the entire GHanas budget. What did the governors do with it. They stole it and now you are asking the federal government for more, that's shameful. That's being a very spoilt child. Please fight your governors both current and past and stop supporting criminality that will end up affecting all of us
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Goes From Powerhouse To Pariah As 'hurricane' Hits Economy by MrBendel(m): 9:35am On May 09, 2016
Itulah:
Pop quiz: Which oil rich economy hammered by the global slump in crude is in the throes of a full-fledged economic crisis — complete with rationing, civil strife and runaway inflation stoked by a weak currency?

If you guessed Venezuela, you'd be wrong. Although the South American country teeters on the edge of collapse and fits the above scenario, those same circumstances actually apply to Nigeria. Once a powerhouse of West Africa's economy, the effects of slumping oil prices have converged with mounting security concerns and widespread energy shortages.

The OPEC country, which produces more than 2 million barrels of oil per day, is resorting to rationing crude: In order to fill their tanks, citizens must endure long lines overseen by authorities.

Nigeria "is caught in a macro hurricane," famed short seller James Chanos told the annual Sohn Investment Conference last week. With currency reserves running low, the country could have "a big problem" within a few years, he said. Calling the country "a borderline failed state," Chanos added that he was shorting South African assets, in part because of their exposure to Nigeria.

In the year that Nigerians elected a new president, oil prices collapsed by at least 30 percent. This week, Nigeria's stock market staged a relief rally after the closely watched MSCI Frontier Markets Index decided to keep the country in the benchmark, after warning last month that Nigeria was at risk of being booted from the index.

Still, the outlook for Africa's largest economy remains grim. The extremist group Boko Haram has created significant political and security challenges for the embattled government of Muhammadu Buhari, and raise risks that could hit oil production.

"Nigeria is in trouble," Steve Hanke, a professor of applied economics at Johns Hopkins, told CNBC in an interview. Amid double-digit inflation, Nigeria's foreign reserves are dwindling as the government races to shore up a swooning currency, the naira.

Using a purchasing power parity metric, Hanke estimates that the country's prices are surging by a whopping 46 percent, far above the official rate of between 11 and 13 percent.

Weak growth — Nigeria's economy expanded by less than 3 percent last year — has done little to curb soaring food prices, which have risen every month since December 2015.

Meanwhile, oil prices remain firmly under $50 per barrel, heightening the risk of what consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers noted in a 2015 report could become a "security shock," as weak growth feeds political instability. Currently, the country's 2016 budget assumes an oil price of $38 per barrel.

Razia Khan, chief economist for Africa at Standard Chartered, expects crude will rise later in the year, but growth is likely to remain muted. Khan noted that the International Monetary Fund "expects growth to decline even further in 2016, to 2.3 percent."

Oil gives Nigeria around 95 percent of its foreign earnings. Should crude remain at current levels, PwC expects growth to contract and oil revenues to dwindle to $20 billion. Meanwhile, the currency has already overshot PwC's worst-case forecast for this year, blowing past 320 to the U.S. dollar recently.

"The currency is junk and the government is incompetent and corrupt," said Johns Hopkins' Hanke. "The only sure-fire way to solve all these problems is for Nigeria to officially replace its junk currency."

Nigeria still has limited access to capital markets, and a $6 billion currency swap agreement with China may help contain the naira's losses. Yet with oil still hovering near historic lows, analysts are skeptical Nigeria will see a turnaround anytime soon.

"Following a tumultuous year for the naira in 2015 we believe the any recovery in the currency will have to be supported by a marked improvement in the crude oil price," Standard Chartered's Khan said, adding that oil would need to rise to near $55 to offset the effects of an "oversupplied market."

Why are you scared of Biafra ?
Bros, Ojukwu was a coward. He abandoned his people when things got tough and ran away. Secondly can any of you tell be the vision of Biafra. Do you even have the political collaboration to be a successful country? You cannot even have a proper regional party under Nigeria due to unhealthy competition and boastful nature amongst the igbos. Thirdly, in a time like this when there is tension and agitation for Biafra, the man wants to be making speeches about Ojukwu who historical representation is about the subject of agitation. It won't happen. Have the igbos tackled the demons within themselves? Biafra remains a dead concept, a concept for those who cannot team up, form political alliances with other tribes and win leadership positions I the country. Least we forget that some of the most esteemed positions in the country in recent times have been occupied by igbos. What did they do for their people. Look our problem in Nigeria is not tribal, it is individual greed.. Because when these corrupt people are sharing the proceeds of corruption they don't look at tribe oh. So let some of these elites who wave benefited heavy from corruption who now have lost their taps to the national cake, stop carrying foul now and now start to spark unnecessary friction within the masses.
