ayomidan: You are %100 right, this country is indeed terrible, the doc on the duty at the general hospital didn't spend upto 5min with me b4 he asked the next patient to come in.. He attended to every individual I witness with I don't have time kind of a thing... Then i have been noticing for years that I can't play football match on a pitch(normal street 5 or 6 asides) with my peers for 30mins I will demand for a substitute cuz I'm gonna start breathing hard and really exhausted, I didn't take it serious cuz I do believe I need rest or something.. Until when I started playing drum set gradually at church and after a long duration of playing hard I tend to breath hard and tend to look for fresh air or cold water to calm my nerves.. Didn't really count it until this very one. You may be suffering from atrial fibrillation. Don't stress yourself too much. |

I have been trying to convince him to give up the relationship as it may end in regret, but my friend is not interested in any of of that. Even the lady doesn't care about the incompatibility. But I really like my friend and I don't want him sad in life. To the experts here, does every marriage between AS couple end in regret, or there is a bit of hope that things will turn out perfect? Are there cases of AS couples having healthy kids? There's a surgical procedure known as Amniocentesis. It can be used to detect the genotype of the fetus when the wife is pregnant. If the fetus turns out to be SS, it can be terminated but the process is damn expensive. And moreover, it's only a 25% chance of giving birth to a sickle cell disease child..They just need to weigh the prons and cons to see if they are worth it. |

If you read my comment well, you will see that I did not say medicine is bad. But these days, lab technicians live better than doctors in my opinion. You need to check it out well. Doctors are suffering in Nigeria too and the economy is bad. The point is do any course and be deligent. That's all. Better you get your degree in 4 years and start navigating than wait 7 years doing medicine. Still, medicine can be rewarding after 7 years. But my point is that it is not a golden course. Your brain is the golden key. Be book smart while in school, but be street smart afterward. To those who chose it to escape poverty it's not Golden but for those who want it to be part of their life it's Golden..The joy of saving lives can not be unrivalled...The prestige is overwhelming, no wonder Medicine is always a reference point in discussions like these..I know the recognitions I get anytime I'm in public unlike when I was studying another course..While the lab technicians are living large, they envy doctors...JOHESU vs NMA always comes to mind... It literally means Money is not enough Sometimes..Any course is Golden if you want it..Money shouldn't be priority everytime because there is no amount of money that you can ever be satisfied with, you'll always yearn for more.. |

HumanCalc: I need maximum reply to this post abeg
I am probably just too ahead of myself but I can't help asking this abeg. I am not a medical student yet, although I think I stand a good chance. I have applied and all but still, anything can happen. But I like to plan ahead for things and I am already thinking of life as a medical student. From various things I have read about medical schools by medical students here, I understand I am going to be awfully busy and 24hours will be barely enough when the time comes (and here I am at home thinking of what to do with excessive time I have now..lol) but I can't imagine the thought of being dependent on my sponsor for the next 7 years. It's just so horrible to me. The expensive schools fees, the expensive and numerous books and then my own fine boy upkeep money, accomodation and feeding and other things. So here I am asking current and past medical students, is it ever going to be possible for me to hustle while in medical school to atleast make things easier on my sponsor and make my life eaiser. And also, what kind of hustle can I indulge myself in then that I will have time for. Have you yourself as a medical student done anything like this or seen any medical student hustle for money while in school. Btw, I am 20yrs Old. Thanks. Combining medical school and hustling is not going to be easy...You can invest now and get your ROI while in Medical school...I know a medical student that has a taxi and the person that uses the car pays him weekly and he's doing very well..When you eventually gain admission, you can patner with any of the tutorial centres close to you and be making stipends from there..you may even decide to have your own tutorial centre..you just have to be able to set and manage your time well. |

BOOKWORMLUX: There are people who are not doctors but are superior to them. That doesn't stop home from performing his duties. So there is no need telling me to know which is superior. There could be hospital settings where nurses occupy higher positions than doctors Occupying a higher position which is most likely to be an administrative position doesn't make a Nurse superior to a Doctor when they are in the same medical team because we know a Doctor leads the team. That's the angle samuelpeters is coming from... There's a need to be specific. |

Zeeknow3245: Permit me my people. So Today I was talking to one of our Big bros today about the course medicine, he just laughed. He told me what about Dentistry and I laughed as well , saying it is just about teeth. He enlightened me a bit about Dentistry saying that it is a branch of medicine which some Dentist students will argue that they are more independent from medicine. Infact ehn, Dentistry is the only medical field that is independent from other fields controlled by Doctors. I was considering radiography, med lab, physiotherapy and many others as well. Funny thing is that there are, Radiologists,Pathologists, and Occupational medicine listed above. Think about this have you ever heard of Medical Doctots bossing Dentists here in Nigeria? Lai,lai . He has been practising Dentistry for the 6th year running;repairing lost tooth, chopped teeth, cleft lip, assited in Jaw reconstruction and even aligned teeth. He never went to strike one day Lai,lai. He laughs at Medical Doctors all the time for carrying cardboards protesting. Although he said there are few about 6 thousand here in Nigeria. He receives a pay cheque same as MD's.He is looking to enroll for post graduate studies for OMFS(Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery). He said he can as well go to study medicine again here in Nigeria for just 18months whereas MBBS will have to study Dentistry for 3 good years. He doesn't condemn Doctors at all only that they are churning graduates who will leave Naija soon or join in the protest. One of the lies people say is that Dentistry ain't challenging. Dentists have lives, Dentists have patient connections,Dentists are surgeons,Dentists can be cosmetologists,Ask Davido,Ronaldo,Kaka and some other notable Dem go gist you. I go change my course I swear ooo. I will post some pictures soon to tell you that Dentistry is fun and challenging. If you want to work with your hands this is for you. People say respect is different that Doctors are more respected but ask yourselves this question, Why does govt owe you salary? . Dentistry would have been like other fields like ENT,surgery,Family medicine as well as others. Let me tell you something and this is what he said and the truth based on research. Many Nigerians going abroad either become Family Medicine Doctors,ER doctors, Anesthesiologists(You must have a huge experience) few become surgeons, Radiologists or even oncologists/radiotherapy. You can be a surgeon there but e no easy. So prestige no dey feed bele ooo shey you know. No troll me and insult me abeg the truth is bitter but that is the truth. A doctor told me going to medicine for money no easy, you will be frustrated. I haven't even told you of the UK and USA health policy on how doctors are monitored all the time. Later then. Just think am oo Dentists are members of the NMA, so whenever Medical Doctors are on strike, Dentists are also on strike.. Dentistry is a branch of Medicine like you said, just like Opthalmology, O and G e.t.c...They only specialise earlier. |
