Politics › Re: Buhari Has History Of Bringing Looted Funds To Nigeria – Atiku by Mrexcell(m): 4:00am On Dec 31, 2018 |
abdulazeez1002: ABUJA – Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has said President Muhammadu Buhari knows a thing or two about bringing looted funds into the country.
The former President stated this while reacting to an earlier statement credited to Buhari Support Groups, BSG, accusing him of plotting to ferry looted funds into the country ahead of the 2019 elections.
Atiku who reacted in a statement issued by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, tasked President Buhari and his supporters to take a trip down memory lane before making allegations they could not substantiate.
The statement read in part: “Our attention has been drawn to a statement by President Muhammadu Buhari accusing the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic part PDP, Atiku Abubakar of planning to smuggle in looted funds into the country just before the February 2019 elections.
“This new accusation, like their previous allegations, is another infantile outburst that tells more about the accuser than Atiku Abubakar. “For the avoidance of doubt, history shows that rather than smuggle in looted cash, Waziri Atiku Abubakar has a record of preventing looted funds from being smuggled into Nigeria.
“In 1984, it was Atiku Abubakar, as head of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Command of the Nigerian Customs and Excise Department, that stopped the ADC of the then Military Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, from smuggling in 53 suitcases of looted money into the country.
“Young Nigerians and Millennials who may not be aware of this incident, will do well to Google it. Only the guilty are afraid. It is President Muhammadu Buhari who has a history of smuggling in looted funds and not Waziri Atiku Abubakar.”
Atiku further backed up his position with a claim that a prominent APC governor said the same thing of the President eight years ago.
“In fact, Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna state governor), a favourite of the President and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, said as follows on October 4, 2010:
“In 1984, Buhari allowed 53 suitcases belonging to his ADC’s father to enter Nigeria unchecked at a time the country was exchanging old currency for new.” The statement added that “only recently, Mr. Abubakar’s plane was searched, his accounts have been perused and his businesses have been thoroughly investigated with a fine tooth and nothing remotely corrupt or illegal has been found.
“In desperation, the Buhari administration released this statement to cover their shame on a day that the US based International Strategic Studies Association reported that it is the unprecedented corruption around President Buhari that has led to the recent setbacks in the war on terrorism in the Northeast and the heavy loss of lives amongst the military rank and file. May God save Nigeria from a government that values money over lives.
“We therefore urge Nigerians to note that it is Muhammadu Buhari who has a history and a record of smuggling in looted funds and it is Waziri Atiku Abubakar who has a history of preventing such from happening.
“And while they are at it, we urge them to tell Nigerians those behind Etisalat, now 9Mobile and Keystone Bank, now Polaris and how they suddenly possessed such wealth overnight.”

presidency: State House Press Release
Obasanjo's Endorsement Of Atiku Will Not Distract President Buhari
The Presidency has received the news of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s predictable U-turn and somersault on the endorsement of the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar, at a meeting Thursday, and to say that we are the least surprised by the well-rehearsed theatre.
They will lose together. Listening to the prepared statement of the former President after the meeting showed the usual ego trip and “I know it all” character of Chief Obasanjo.
In the first place, we dare to say that a pompous statement from the former President advising Nigerians on a vote against President Buhari is the best recommendation that can come at this time.
It also betrayed a lack of understanding of today’s politics which is about good governance.
The country voted for change in 2015 and a leader that ensures good governance which only President Buhari and the APC can provide.
Bent on these laudable goals, we will not allow ourselves to be distracted.
We are busy on various national issues including the restructuring and the diversification of the economy, fighting corruption, terrorism and other threats to national security; increasing the availability of electric power, improving education, health, and providing long-delayed infrastructure – roads, rail, airports and so forth.
Many governments have come and gone, but they did not care about some of these projects.
We were talking about these things for sixteen years under the PDP and nothing was done.
President Buhari is proud of his record because his achievements are verifiable, while that of the PDP is manifested by the devastating social and economic impact of large scale corruption during their governance.
The President will not relent in the war against corruption because the ordinary people are the ultimate victims if we surrender to corruption and let its perpetrators go unpunished.
Abandoning the war against corruption is not an option. President Buhari is in this battle against graft because he cannot allow a few, rapacious, and selfish class of the elite to divert the resources meant for the well-being of the ordinary people to their private pockets.
Nigerians trust President Buhari in this effort because they are convinced he is not in government for personal financial benefits, or for an ego trip. It is just eleven years ago that the former President and Vice President in their ugly fight for power accused each other of corruption. Nigerians are yet to forget all that.

The rally was organized in honour of Muhammadu Buhari and to encourage him to continue in office as President beyond 2019, as well as to receive Obong Nsima Ekere, the son of the Senatorial District whose performance has been a source of inspiration and blessing to the entire senatorial district as the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
According to reports by Akwa Ibomites who claimed to have attended the rally, the senator and former state governor Akpabio, refused to use an umbrella in the rain as he firmly flaunted his broom at the event.
It was alleged that senior APC Chieftains said the umbrella is considered a symbol of PDP and as such was not used at the APC event.

bilms: Kemi Adeosun and Nigeria's failed institutions By Abdulrazaq O Hamzat
The Kemi Adeosun's scandal, now refered to as #KemiGate has exposed how deficient our institutions are and we all need be worried. Beyond any doubt, it has been established that the former minister of Finance procured fake NYSC certificate, which she has now admitted in her resignation letter, many months after the news broke
These are 5 issues to worry about:
1. Adeosun obtained fake NYSC certificate, which is against the law. How did this happen?
2. Ogun State House of Assembly didn't detect this forgery and she was cleared for appointment as commissioner. A whole state legislative house.
3. DSS, Nigeria's intelligent agency didn't detect this also and she was adjudged by the agency as clean to be recommended as Minister. How? If DSS couldn't detect this simple matter, shouldn't we be worried about our national security?
4. National Assembly also didn't detect this highly sensitive matter as she was confirmed as Minister. I mean, we may overlook the state assembly and claim they have limited authority. What about the National Assembly? What stopped them from detecting this?
5. Surprisingly, what all our institution couldn't detect, a journalist, who is committed to duty detected it and establish the fact beyond any reasonable doubt.
Without any budget. Without allowance. Without power of oversight. Without security k nowledge.
The journalist did it.
Isn't this worrisome?

EmagNig: The Nigerian Air Force has tracked and destroyed some Boko Haram vehicles as they were making plans to launch fresh attacks on ground troops locations at Gudumbali and Damasak in Borno.
Nigerian Air Force Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja, said that the operation was carried out in the early hours Saturday, The Punch Reports.
He explained that the mission was initiated following intelligence reports indicating that a convoy of BHT vehicles had been sighted within the Damasak – Gudumbali axis.
“Accordingly, a Nigerian Air Force Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance platform was dispatched to search for and locate the convoy of vehicles.
“The ISR aircraft spotted vehicles at a location 24 Km SW of Gudumbali heading in a northwards direction. Consequently, a helicopter gunship was scrambled to attack the convoy.
“The helicopter arrived the location and was vectored to the position of the vehicles, which, at the time, were about midway between Nigerian Army locations at Metele and Arege.
“Following communications with ground troops, the BHT vehicles were positively identified, isolated and attacked by the helicopter gunship in successive strikes.”
Daramola said that in the process, four of the vehicles were immobilized and their occupants neutralised.
“The ISR aircraft continued to track the remaining 5 vehicles, which initially dispersed but later regrouped and continued their retreat to Tumbun Rego.
“They were subsequently attacked at their harbour location by the freshly rearmed helicopter gunship; with 3 direct hits recorded on the vehicles,” he said.
He said that a follow-up attack on the newly discovered insurgents’ logistics base in Tumbun Rego was conducted by 2 Alpha Jet aircraft later in the morning.
“The makeshift buildings and other facilities in the base were accordingly destroyed in the air strike.”
The NAF spokesman said that the NAF, working in concert with surface forces, would sustain the momentum of operations with a view to destroying vestiges of the insurgents in the Lake Chad green fringes and other areas in Northern Borno.

dainformant: The operatives of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested three one-chance robbers on the Third Mainland Bridge while another jumped into the Lagoon with the gang’s loot.
The robbers, John Akinyemi, 27; Paul Oliseh, 37 and Amos Williams, 12, were arrested on Monday afternoon on the Third Mainland bridge after a chase by the Rapid Response Squad patrol team monitoring Iyana-Oworo.
The policemen after being informed that the one-chance robbers were operating around the area, chased the bus, a Volkwagen Transporter with the registration number, AKD 562 XP to the bridge.
The robbers, after being double crossed by the officers on the Third Mainland Bridge, abandoned their vehicle and were fleeing on foot when they were arrested.
One of the robbers, who was later identified as Junior, 19, was reportedly hit by speeding vehicles twice on the bridge before jumping off into the Lagoon.
According to the leaders of the gang, John Akinyemi, “there were four of us. I was in charge of calling the team to work. It was our first trip for the day. We took four passengers in Estate Bus Stop in Alapere. They were going to Oshodi. We dispossessed them and dropped them off before Iyana-Oworo one after the other.
We took their phones and money. We have been doing this for more than three months. We sell the mobile phones and jewelry, and we share the money”.
One of the victims, Semiu Oluwaseun, who alerted the RRS officers immediately he was thrown out of the moving bus, said the robbers collected his phone and the sum of N500,000:00.
Another victim, Jamiu Ojuroye, who was robbed on Sunday, identified John Akinyemi as the driver of the bus he was robbed in. He noted that he was robbed on Sunday night and that the robbers team took N150,000:00 from him before threw him out of the speeding bus.
Ojuroye added that after struggling with the robbers, they poured a peppery substance on his face, took his money before throwing him off around 8:00 p.m.
The robbers were paraded today by Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, at the Command Headquarters.

[quote author=IllegalMoney post=70933399] PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for the Osun state election, Senator Ademola Adeleke and his rival in the last Party primary, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, have reconciled and agreed to work together for the success of the party in the coming election.
This was made possible by the PDP National Campaign Council for the Osun state gubernatorial election led by Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who announced the breakthrough in Abuja on Wednesday.
After a meeting which he hosted at his residence, Saraki announced to journalists that both men had put the past disagreement over the primary behind them.
He said they had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that also includes other party stakeholders in Osun state.Saraki praised both politicians and assured that with their coming together, victory was assured for the PDP in Osun state. The Senate President said: “What just happened is the signing of MOU between not just the two aspirant of the Osun gubernatorial primaries of PDP, but between all the PDP stakeholders in Osun state, especially between two Osun PDP gubernatorial aspirants who a lot of people think cannot come together. “Today, what you are seeing is the unity of the PDP in Osun state. The two aspirant who contested in an intensive primary are now together finally so that we will be able to present a united party for the forthcoming election. “We are very happy with what we have seen today. The credit goes to two of them, Senator Ademola Adeleke and more particularly Dr Ogunbiyi, because we have all gone through election and we know what is like to lose an election. But he puts the party first and they came together in the interest of the people in Osun state and to rescue the people. So, what you have just seen is a sign that Osun PDP is united, and with a united PDP, victory is sure for the party in the election in the next two weeks.” In his remark, Adeleke, expressed delight that unity had been achieved by both sides, saying that it was what the people of Osun had been waiting for. He said: “Am so happy that we have seen today and God has answered PDP’s prayer. We thank the leadership of the PDP, especially the Senate President, Chairman of our National Campaign Committee and all our party leaders to have organized this. “The electorates are waiting for us. I believe that they want us and this is what they have been waiting for because, after primary, there should be reconciliation. “And with this reconciliation everybody is happy, the electorates are waiting for us and sure victory is ours.” In his own remark, Ogunbiyi said PDP must win Osun in the coming election. He assured that he would work with the candidate to achieve this objective. The former governorship aspirant added: “Am very delighted that we got to this point, and is for the interest of the Osun people and Nigeria at large because we believe Osun for us must be taken, for us to be able to wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress come 2019. “And we are going to work together for the party’s victory in the 22nd gubernatorial election. https://www.tribuneonlineng.com/amp/163035/[/quote It's that not fayose on the left hand side of saraki? |
