tunlapapa: Now this is when Uber will lose some drivers and end up losing trips/riders(riders will have to wait longer cos of fewer drivers online at the moment and the impatient ones will use the alternative). We are stylishly back to the era of 25% and drivers will continue to groan in pains for the there is nothing they can do(no union). Got the same message, I just drove back home to sleep. This is just crazy, no prior info. 30 trips is slavery abeg. Abeg who get Tasifire application form? |

What a day! After church today I decided to rest at home till later in the day. Me: woke up feeling refreshed, came online and first request with 1.6 surge . Called rider Rider: (female) WHERE ARE YOU? Me: Good afternoon Rider: WHERE ARE YOU OGA?? me: I'm about 3mins to your location Rider: HURRY UP (hangs the phone) Me: drives down to her location Rider: HAVE SEEN YOU, REVERSE AND ENTER MY GATE Me: Okay ma. As soon as she enters. Me: May I start the trip? Rider: starts crying. To cut long story short, her wedding was on Saturday but her fiance/husband didn't show up at the wedding. She was depressed and suicidal. I tried my best to give her some motivational talks and cheer her up. Las las she gave me my biggest Tip I have ever seen. Morale of the story. We drivers should try as much as to be patient with riders especially the aggressive ones. They may be going thru stuff. Just relax and be professional. The said babe just linked me to someone I have been meaning to meet. Just look at God! Stay safe brothers. |

ndubuis: If folks here stop quoting these low life CEOs" and stop giving them attention, I'm sure they will stop coming. I don't read the crap they've been spewing, they don't make sense to me. This is the only place I come to share my uber experience and feel the pulse of other partners that face the same hurdle as me, nothing more than that. I see a lot of narrow-minddedness in the way they reason, because it's impossible for them to think outside the box and put themselves in your shoes. It's a waste of time arguing with such people. If only they stop paying them attention. Stop quoting or replying the CEOs let's move ahead! |

thelastorca: Let me take this again. If a phone is involved in the commission of a crime and police are called in, they can get the call records of the perpetrator from mtn or any other telco company. With the data from the line, be it location, numbers called , transactions, the user can be traced. This has been used to facilitate arrests in other cases.
We had an issue just like that where someone was making threatening calls to a member of staff.
It is just that our police will not prosecute crimes unless they are motivated.
Nothing you do in this digital age can be fully and completely hidden. Every single thing you do with your phone is logged on your providers servers You obviously don't know anything... if I call those boys that hawk sims and I know I want to use it to commit a crime. I give them fake name and fake address and use the sim only for uber and I request and kill or kidnap the driver. How will the police locate me? Criminals are smart, they would even tip those sim hawkers like 2k to even use any pic. Also, we are tired of you referring any issue here with the one in your office. It's boring and annoying. pocohantas: I think it is a whole lot easier for you people to respond to such, but there are jobs/positions you'll be in- you will learn to suck it up.
Nigerians are generally rude to public servants- drivers, waiters/waitresses, pump attendants...etc. Most Nigerians are!
I started from customer seevice at my former place of work, before I was moved to yet another unit I had to interface with customers. Was a bit lucky with the ladies- maybe they know we all have the same craze. So, they took their bad energies away from me, I only got the usual forming and phonetics from them. At first I used to get pissed, change my countenance- with time I started using silent treatment.
Right now, what I am very sure I will respond to is physical assault. Gbam! I personally don't have any issues if u like called me cab driver, oko ashewo, driver, it's one of the "job hazard" I used to be a high tempered person but this uber job has humbled me. calabardick: They should better read and learn, in as much as I don't trouble you, you've no right to trouble me, if you try it na 3MB I'll end your trip, treat your fvckup and kick you out of my car. Uber have authorise us to abort any idiotic trip.
I see one lowlife punk downgrading drivers because he feels he's working with a heavenly downstream or whatever. I personally work with an upstream - E & P (Automation Engineer, studied and certified in Brazil ), works offshore (2 weeks in/out). I resigned from a reputable military service to further my studies. Instead of staying idle I decide to romance uber, it's fun and stressful out there, it resets my brain as well.
Driving with uber have expose me to both angels and demons, it really shaped my life in so many ways, I've learned a lot.
Drivers deserves to be respected, it's not easy.
On Friday I picked one nasty lady that was insulting and commanding me to drive like James Bond, I ignored her and she tapped my shoulder from behind and said "mr. Man I'm talking to you", I didn't say anything and she began ranting, I ignored her. According to airtel THAT THING DEY PAIN.
When we get to Blenco she mannerlessly asked me to stop for her to shop, and I did. She get inside, I followed her, we shopped at the end of the shopping I purposely stood behind her, my items were 10x more than what she picked and she asked me who I am, I humbly showed her my IDs when we entered the car, that's when sudden humility overshadowed her she now switched to the front seat, I ended the trip there, gave her a free ride to gulf at lakowe, without collecting a kobo from her for the entire ride. When she asked me why I offer her a free ride, I told her UBER DRIVERS AREN'T POOR.
She called around 11pm, I didn't pick her call, she dropped a message [just checking on you]

Bro, I don't think it's my job to tell the rider, except in cases where the other driver showed emphaty to the ride. I'm here to make money and not run a charity. If I carry you with surge of 6.5x best believe I go collect my money complete when we reach your destination. |

radautoworks : This argument you guys are getting into is ridiculous for real. I'm a CEO/director of multiple companies both here and overseas and I will NOT get in Uber in Nigeria. None of my counterparts will either. We use Uber for deliveries and for my employees but not for us. In some European countries and US maybe but not here. It's not a pride thing. It's a security thing. when you are a target for competitors and desperate people you don't just get in any vehicle. On this thread I see some examples of why I wouldn't. There are some shining stars here that I wouldn't mind taking an Uber with but what are the odds of finding one? I cannot kee myself or be dragging with someone so my life is easier. Just like when I gave my opinion as a rider on cancellations and it turned to fight. I cannot be quarreling over trivialities so why open myself up to that? There is nowhere I need to be that in an emergency I need an Uber. They will wait for me. That being said, I value other people's time and am where I'm supposed to be when I say I will and I expect the same from others. Forget this argument. The people you are arguing over are oblivious and you could be using the energy to make more money and become like them. P.s. 200 million is really not high net worth. That's just half a million dollars. He's doing well but that's not high net worth. Let the crucifying begin.Una no go kill person for here.. Ministry of Arguements

pope191: My last 2 riders r just funny set of people, my rating have dropped so drastically, but its all good. The drag with the first was passing the toll gate when it was opened freely to all motorist, so she insist not to pay for toll gate and I made her understand, I'm meant to take what the app display. The second one went to mart to get some stuff, from dia to 2 different banks, then to get shawarma, as we r driving on she saw a local food vendor and ask me if I can cross over to get food for her... I turned to her in funny manner and ask what? She said food, I crack a smile and politely tell her no, I don't do such. I drive on and she saw another place and ask if I can help her get food nah, other drivers do help out, I'm wicked, dis dat, I'm going to get a star... It is well, this too shall pass Pipe nicely done. Uber and bolt need to tell this riders, drivers are not slaves. I can only do such errand is if the person is handicapped, pregnant or an elderly person to some extent. I am still hoping to see the rider that would tell me such, maybe cos my physique is intimidating I don't even know. NNicely done jare, 1 star no dey kill person. |

pharod: I once got a request and I didn't ask the rider the destination b4hand. Turns out it's Ajegunle and the only way out for me was Otto Wharf road. The bad roads nearly tore my bumper apart. Since then, I have learnt my lesson.
Sometime last week, I was on my way home around 9pm, I got a request and I asked the rider where she's going, she said that I shouldn't ask her, that I will see it when I start the trip. I told her plainly that it's late and I'm not going anywhere unless I know where I'll be taking her. She started calling me names, that she will report me and do all manner of things. I told her to chill b4 she gives herself high BP. The Uber app is easy to navigate and the office is at Maryland Mall, you can even go there and lodge a physical complaint. Pharod couldn't care less. I cut the call, canceled the request went offline and went home. Can't allow one person that doesn't matter to come and spoil my day for me right at the end... Spot on! It's only a novice that wont ask. Me would even give her Huber email address or phone number so she can call them.. |

This is me whenever I accept a trip.
After greetings and all
Me: please which AREA are you going? Rider: oh... I'm going to e.g surulere, vi, ikeja, festac, etc. It's now left for you the driver to decline or continue.
( those 400naira trip riders like that Orniblockus guy)
Me: pls which area are you going?
Rider: why are u asking? Come and pick me and you will see where I'm going.
Me: Cancel the trip Rider: No, you cancel? Me: drives close, park my car, carry my phone and walk to the area and cancel after 5mins.
I see no reason why a ridee should be angry if you ask for the destination of the rider. Yellow taxi will always ask? Airport taxi will ask? So why cant I ask? |

donfortune48: Dear ornicus, Everyone here agreed that the driver was wrong for requesting for an offline with you, even those attacking you. But what many are trying to explain to you is that, reporting him to uber seems somehow, quite harsh do to some justifiable reasons in relation to our experience on this job.
Over 70% of uber drivers (even those that supported you) don't like going to festac, satellite town and amuwo odofin for some reasons. rubbery incidents, heavy traffic, bad roads along that way. you'll likely pass through Babs Animashaun going to festac from gbagada. Which is one of the worst roads in Lagos.
Most people don't negotiate offline just to cheat Uber. Most times we negotiate offline to justify the risk we're taking for that particular trip. Risks related to possible robbery along that route, or not getting a request back, or passing through bad roads that will possibly damage your car, or getting stuck in an unexpected traffic that will affect your day etc...
I've once negotiated for an offline to amuwo odofin cos there was traffic from Orile to Festac. So I explain to my rider that I will like to follow middle lane to alakija, then go through Festac to amuwo Odofin. We got to the destination rider was so happy seeing the traffic we avoided and added 1k to our agreed fare.
We're not trying to justify Evil. We're only trying to tell you to be flexible in reasoning. That driver must have had over 5trips on uber before your trip that day, but he didn't negotiate offline with them. So you just need to understand that there might be a reason behind his request for offline which could not be exactly what he told you.
I know you may not accept this explanation cos you don't do Uber and you don't know what we see daily. I know it will look like convincing Dru23, who sees the job as a blessing, that the job is not easy, when he don't know how to hold a steering....
...but please think otherwise and don't be stiff in reasoning. God bless you, you've said it all. That fool will still not come to terms with this, just leave the idiot and the arrogant imbeciles supporting him |
