Yoruba Nation's next tech billionaires will be made in Lagos. We need a competitor to Nairaland honestly, this site is stale. Kudos to the Flutterwave and Paystack guys.

That's why I laugh when I see the two tribes. Yoruba should break away and kick all the two nuisance tribes away from our land. They are the same, only that the Fulani does theirs with bloodletting
Only idiotic Yorubas fail to realize this. I hope they don't continue to put their head in the sand and are waking up.

PoliticsRe: Happy Yoruba New Year! Year 10,063! by MrMaestro(op): 8:00pm On Jun 02, 2021
I find it interesting that a comment on this tweet said that ILE IFE was founded in Yoruba year 10,063, and we've had 7 Ifes since then. Meaning we are far past 10,063 Anyone know about this?

And his tweet lead to a link that showed that scientists recently discovered that Yoruba DNA is archaic and predates modern homo sapiens, being up to 1 Million years old!

Specifically, by comparing the genomes of 405 West Africans with Neanderthal and Denisovan genomes and applying computer modeling, Durvasula and Sankararaman have discovered that contemporary Yoruba and Mende people derive between 2 to 19 percent of their genomes from this mysterious archaic hominin. In terms of averages, 6.6 percent of the Yoruba and 7 percent of Mende genome sequences are archaic, they calculate.

Durvasula and Sankararaman deduce that the mystery hominin split from the Homo line about 625,000 years ago (mean), though their margin of error is again stupefyingly wide: 340,000 years to 1.02 million years.
Up to 19% of Yoruba DNA is attributed to an unknown archaic DNA source?!? Jesus! We really need our scientists to look more into this because that's not a small number.

PoliticsRe: Sanwo-Olu Restate Calls For Special Status For Lagos by MrMaestro: 7:11pm On Jun 02, 2021
DMerciful:
But the Portuguese came to Lagos in the 17th century. Who were the people they met? Because you narration only showed Yorubas conquering Lagos recently and were not indigenous to Lagos. So a stronger conqueror can always claim Lagos then
By that logic. Egypt doesn't belong to the current Egyptians, UK doesn't belong to the current English, Igboland doesn't belong to the current Igbos, Singapore doesn't belong to the current Singaporeans, etc. White people should go back to the caucus mountains, Igbos should go back to Jerusalem area (or wherever else), etc. Go back far enough I'm history, no one belonged no where. But you clearly just want to claim Lagos like your people always does. I just want to know, with the effort you people like to claim Lagos, wouldn't you have a Lagos already if you simply started working on your own region?

The only reason I think you and your kind are afraid of dividing the country is because what you gain as long as the country remain one not even because of your care for the Yoruba race....
Selfish and power hungry. That's all he cares about. We were self sufficient long before Nigeria.

PoliticsRe: Eko Atlantic City Update (pics) by MrMaestro: 3:30am On May 27, 2021
Sometimes pictures oversell actual reality, but in this situation it's even looking better in person. More spaced out and capable of handling millions of people. Roads and sidewalks are HUGE. This will be the greatest city in Africa once said and done. Johannesburg and Cairo are great but we're built in 80s/90s and have nothing like this ultramodern city development, just a fact.

Without Tinubu this wouldn't exist. Or do you see any other state in Nigeria doing something like this? Abuja that has been the FCT for decades still has nothing close to this even in conception let alone development.

YungMillionaire:
Guy Igbo not on the same level with Yoruba in Caribbean or South America. Not even close by any stretch of the Imagination. I have been to most of these countries you are listing. i am talking from experience. Yoruba culture is the single most influential African culture BY FAR in the Carribean and South America. In fact, there is a religion simply called YORUBA or Santeria that spans Brazil, Columbia all the way to Cuba and the Dominican Republic. It is based on IFA and the Yoruba gods (Sango, Yemoja, Ogun etc.). Amadioha is not recognized, my guy. Don't argue with me on this. You will embarrass yourself big time. I have receipts. Back away now that you still can. In this aspect of life, Igbos have no standing whatsoever.
Guy, don't even respond to that man. If not for Nigeria, Igbos would be as irrelevant as the other thousands of tribes in Africa. It's only because of the population of Nigeria that their over inflated ego continues to get air. Had they been in Cameroon by the whim of Lord Luggard, no one would even know of the Igbos.

They don't have any kingdoms or historical culture or art to account for. Realistically they don't even amount to the Zulus of South Africa, or Akan of Ghana. Let alone the Yorubas. There's a reason why Yorubas are currently: Chairman of the African Development Bank, Deputy Treasurer of the United States of America, the most tech startups in Nigeria, the most tech startups in U.S. of Africans in U.S. (Calendly, Cancer IQ, Mekakon, etc.), Managing Director of one of the largest Private Equity firms in the UK that bought Gatwick Airport, the most Nigerian billionaires, the first African Nobel Prize Winner, the first region to implement a television station in all of tropical Africa, etc. Not to mention the culture of our IFA divination systems permeating south american culture, our Gods not only being adopted in South America but even by U.S. blacks as well, etc.

I don't even mean to be disrespectful, it's just a statement of FACT, the Igbos don't rank anywhere near the Yorubas on an international stage. The Akan are a more worthy tribe in terms of competition and accomplishments than the Igbo.

PoliticsRe: Constitution Review: Akeredolu Backs Return To 1963 Constitution by MrMaestro: 3:04pm On May 26, 2021
The best way possible is to allow each region flower in its areas of comparative advantage. The behemoth called the Federal Government must shed the excess weight unduly appropriated over time. It is the major cause of friction. It is the reason for the politics of bitterness. It explains why everyone wants the power at the centre. It promotes ethnic chauvinists and encourages mediocrity.
Absolutely brilliant. This man needs to run for Oduduwa President or even Nigeria President. The only man that puts politics aside to do what's right for the people and unapologetic about it as well. May God continue to bless him.

PoliticsRe: Lagos Becoming Mega City: Lagos/Ibadan Metro Complete! by MrMaestro(op): 2:37pm On May 21, 2021
All that is left for Lagos to make the transition completely is
1. Ban ALL okada.
2. Expand on public transportation methods.
3. Improve road network in the smaller neighborhoods of the state
4. Pressure federal govt to increase electricity capacity.
