Doyin400l: @Op, hope you not under any threat over there? You sounded strange going by your recent post. Well, ride on bro. we solidly in your front. My question is; How is Kano state cost of living for Corpers in this time of recession. 2. How much is accommodation over there I.e A room, Self-contained, a 3 bed-room flat. 3. How easy it is to probably start a family over there in terms of living standard. Thanks. Bros Don't ever think of bringing your family over hear. Abeg don;t imagine it. Having said that, i am not under any threat and i will always be truthful. i have someone in my PPA who was retained after service, he didnt bring his family here. Secondly, the cost of living here in this time if recession is far better than what is obtainable elsewhere. Atleast the side i stay, you can buy tomatoes + onions + pepper= N100, and it will be big. Here in town, things only becomes costly when you go to Sabongari. Accommodation is cheap in the Hausa dominated places, but trust me, you wouldn't enjoy living with them as everything you do has religious implication. so it's better you rent house in Sabon gari. |

No, no one can put me under duress. As you wont even see what i will write as the contribution of Kano Indigenes to your successful stay in Kano. everything you are about to read will come from your own effort and NYSC. I can't contradict what i earlier wrote. Thanks Anyway for your concern |

Two, PPA: As a corper, the most important thing is not your state of deployment rather your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA). when we got posted, one of my classmate who was posted to Abuja Was feeling too high. I felt intimidated but before going for service, I knew that state of deployment isn't the Ultimate rather, ones PPA. After Camp, he was posted to a secondary school outside the city of Abuja and he started wailing.
Here in Kano, there is 70% percent possibility of being posted to the town. Most Corp members are posted to the Town and here in the town many opportunities abound.
My friends posted to the village here in Kano enjoy more than us in town. They have constant light, good lodge I. e 1/room, their PPA give them food every Month. remember only few persons go to the village. Also there in the village, No CDS, no U-report, no disturbance from anyone.
Majority posted to the village are most lucky as they can get things doing. most private companies in the town employ Corps members and pay them very well ,if you get lucky, kedco I. e Kano distribution company or dangote company employ your service, then you are of all men most blessed. most PPA here in the town employ you and give you the opportunity of doing other things to earn money. and trust me, as a graduate, if you are wise you will see things u can do and if you are business inclined, believe me, Kano is a fertile ground only be focused.
Also you can't compare cost of living in Kano to most other places, it's far cheaper. Don't mind people talking about rice been costly, here in Kano it's far cheaper, example, as at today, a bag of Thailand rice goes for 22000 in Lagos same bag of rice is 18000 in Kano. I will talk about cost of living separately. The fact that you have high chance of getting a good PPA and been posted to the town is something worth considering. I have seen HND holders use NYSC here in Kano to run their PGD program for the period of one year. Their PPA gives them time and encourages them to do it. when we came we were told at our PPA to go and get PGD ,MSc form at BUK.
You can Maximize your stay in Kano than anywhere else. Therefore, give Kano a chance. It's worth taking. |

statistics have shown that more corpers die in south south than North west of recent. one thing that pushes prospective corps members from choosing Kano state as their choice of state is insecurity and unless they are told they wouldn't believe that Kano is more secure than other states unlike what is widely thought. Serving in Kano state has been a blessing and I have seen reasons why YOU should choose Kano state.
I Will spend time talking about Kano state and give some detailed reason why Kano should be your first choice of state during NYSC.
let's get started
one: Security when the call up letter showed and I was posted to Kano, The fear of security gave me some sleepless night. as the only son, my physical well being is not only important but paramount to my decision making, but I can boldly tell you that as a Corp member in Kano, you are more secured than anyone. since we came, we haven't heard of any Corp member dying because of security, not even beating or attacked. those serving in villages are given tight security and their affairs given top priority. The natives of Kano have been warned to obey Corpers. they respect you, love you, honour you and render help to you as long as you let them know you are a corper. unlike what is heard in other states of Corpers dying, beating or kidnapped.
Also, due to the sensitivity of security here in Kano, your movement is restricted only by yourself making you more secured as no one will ever think of breaking into your house to harm you.
Kano indigenes are very religious and as such most of them can't harm you. ladies are angels in Kano. everything favours them, they can't be raped nor harassed provided they respect themselves by dressing decently. you see, security is not a reason why you shouldn't choose Kano state. Everywhere in Kano is well secured, you can see the presence of security in most places even at your work places. l challenge you to call any serving corper in Kano and you will never here that her security is bleached. As a corper you are more secure than anyone else living in Kano. Always go with your I. D card. |

Isaacmacdon: I'm very glad that there are still reasonable people on this platform. I really wonder what is happening right now. Its just the signs of the times. People tend to believe heresies and bullcrap, I just got to keep praying for everyone. Someone even had the guts to question my stand in Jesus Christ. When you are being exposed to a lot of evil, there's no gain saying that'd begin to pick then up gradually and this platform is the devils playground. I pity the weak willed Christians. I believe God will reveal the truth to all men. I need not worry cos I know I serve a living God. Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,… the truth have been revealed to all men. I have up on the op when I knew what manner of man he is. How can u begin to teach him deep things of the Scripture, when he is yet to understand the basics. Hebrews 5:11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. |

Don't mind him. follow up the op's topic and u will know the kind of person he is. If you read tru you will see where I stated clearly that if your heart condemns you when you do it without porn then stop it..Simple.
But no one should call it a sinful act because we can not start choosing what is sinful by human reasoning.
Call it addictive and I will agree, call it a bad habit and I will say it is for those who see it that way but call it a sin and I will ask you to back it up from the sriptures or keep mum.
I repeat, I'm not promoting the act and I don't even know how to whank as they call it but I'm always out to say things as they are without hypocrisy. it's becoming obvious that God is loosing u to the devil. Darey00: This OP sha dey give us chop sha.
I'm serving in a town close to Katsina city in Katsina state. I can say one or two things
1. Islamic education and Western education DO NOT go hand-in-hand. The students go to school in the morning then come back in the evening for Islamic class. I know this cos I teach in a public school and my fellow corp members who r Muslims also teach them 2. I have seen Hausa students in Katsina city WITH THEIR SCHOOL UNIFORM ON,and NO HIJAB in the public.
Many of the previous posters are not entirely wrong cos the OP is just painting a very exaggerated picture of Kano.
PS: Katsina is 2hrs from Kano hence the comparison Point one is not wrong but here in Kano, even the morning school u think they go is islamiyya. see brother, this is a simple experiment, imagine someone starting western education at early stage yet can't here or speak English. if I post my students answer sheet u will agree but I won't. Your second point is a rape of truth, even Kano natives won't agree with that. it doesn't happen in Kano:. |
NYSC › Re: My NYSC Experience In Kano State by mrphysics(op): 9:19pm On Aug 14, 2016 |
Chriswazo: mrphysics, see let me tell you something, i like your write up and understand your position towards the North or better put " Kano" conservative lifestyle, but bro if you ask me, i will always prefer life in the North to life in the east. I love the cool hausa people, look out for them, and i promise you, you gonna enjoy that city. I stayed in Bauchi for a month and the experience i got from the cool sets among them, i will never forget. This same experience i had is what is pulling me today to go back there for my service and by God's grace i will start life there. Bro just humble yourself and associate with them with a free mind, you won't regret it. I wish I have the time to pour out my heart to you, inasmuch as my friends there were actually my brother's workers, i joked freely with them all even with the site engineers and the senior labourers among them, i "entered" their hearts. I was confident that if any one was planning to harm me, that all of them would have rallied around me in defense. One day like that i quarreled with our block suppliers because he disobeyed my instructions to off load the blocks at a particular site, he came back the second time and disobeyed me the second time, i was just looking at him, as he was about to start truck, just as his workers were waving at me bye bye as their custom were anytime d are going, this man (he is even a fulani, a sect that i dread too much, and he is also the manager of the block company) he came down surprisingly and walked up to me and gave me a 500 naira note which he said i should use for my launch and as well apologized over our disagreements. I was so moved with compassion as d waved me bye, that's why i so much love cool tempered and friendly hausas even here in the east, i always help them with anything d need me for, why? Because d have been so so good to me. During their break hours then, d will wash pray and we will go in groups to buy food or relax outside. The only problem that i had with a few of them, i will say is when i started getting close to their sisters that came to sell their foods (mama put). I became so close to them to the extent that about 2 or 3 of the guys started looking at me somehow and will say somethings in their language and as well started withdrawing themselves, i know d felt jealous because some of the girls liked me and will always sit around me in the shade that i always sat and we will be chatting and d will be using my phones, i started teasing one of them sef that is really busty that i will like to "razzle" but she said No, that she loves me but will like me to be touching my head on the ground (that is convert), i told her ok, let's date, no marriage, she still refused saying the same thing and their anger for me is borne out of my interest for the busty gal, because d themselves were rallying around her, obviously to razzle her too, so my presence intimidated them and is a normal thing. Bro if i can enjoy Bauchi that is very dry and small, how much more you that is in a bigger city like Kano. All it will cost you is money to spend, a FREE Mind and a humble spirit, forget say d are illiterates, who literacy help? start associating with the locals, d are d ones that will spoil you and give you the basic gists that you need and can as well protect you if you treat them well. I noticed that you are only flocking with corpers and your students. My closest friends in my university days are my northern friends, though d are igbos but they have those northern traits and i found them more trustworthy than my igbo friends wey too d jonse. The regret i have is that i am not yet fluent in hausa neither do i understand it well, it hampered my relationship with them because many of them can't hear English both with the male and female folks, the worst being the females, that couldn't hear even pidgin, the busty gal that i wanted to razzle no d hear even the English word "No", na say her friends d interpret my pidgin to am, in other occasions, na my guys d interpret for me. imagine that kind frustration, na y i no collect Anyone of them(ladies) their phone numbers, it was really frustrating and generally i enjoyed and cruised Bauchi city because i had the money to spend then with them and they really enjoyed my company. In short, i liked many of them and d like me too, not because i was their "Migida" but i have learned how to enter people's heart and i always do wherever i am. Bro, feel free and enjoy those people, they are still God's creatures and do have their jovial and friendly sides and above all respect their religion. I almost caused "kasalla" for myself when i unknowingly flouted their religion ordinance by going to touch one of them as he was praying and trying to pass in front of them praying but i was corrected in love and i quickly apologized. So mrphysics, there's nothing to fear, feel free and enjoy yourself while living in obedience to their rules o, Is there land, remember. thank much. I love obeying rules and I am very: jovial |

Here in kano, things are becoming cheaper. If u have the strength to cook, the it's ur time to get fat. Okro N50 here, you can't finish it. They is this farmer, he sell farm product directly from his farm, oh the whole corpers living around here can't forget this man.
If you want to cook, just tell the man to give u tomatoes + vegetables + onions + pepper, = N100, and he will park it and give to you. the first day I experienced it, it was like a dream, but I see it's because, we are in the rainy season.
Also, having good friends in Nysc can save u a lot, here, am grateful to my female corpers, they always make sure am well fed. they see to it that eat well. Most of them came with this "I am engaged " talk, like we want to disengage them, but now we are living our dream. Anyway, inside the lodge, kano is cool. |

what more can I say, having a feel of what lecturers feel, ranging from exam hall to unnecessary calls, love and gifts, funny words and stylish green light, it seems there is no difference here.
Every girl wants to associate with us, they call, show love to us. I think that's the best we are getting now. Since they are tied strictly to their religion, truth be told, sex here is not cheap unless you take extraordinary measures. The reason is so is largely caused by the fact that most of their life revolve round kano and their religion. their culture made it in such a way that they know no man.
one of my student's was telling me how, a typical Kano girl live her life. it was shocking to realise it was coming from a girl. They accepted the fact that they are not exposed but it still shock me to realise that they actually do nothing at home. |
