RoughCut:

The only good thing about the PP to list the additional 2.7B shares is that you are getting a big 'discount' to the current share price of  about ~N11 so hopefully if they release FY anytime from nowor have they released their results? and its looks good the share price will go up-north even from where it is now but by the time those who bought the PO start verifying their ' sabuke' you can expect a down-side.

If the additional oversubscription from the PP is listed before April/May when Q1 for '08 results are expected  you  get your 'pali' verified before then you can still gatecrash the party but after that i think it will be difficult to justify bonuses for the bloated amount of shares that will be listed then.

was at Oceanic registrar today, picked returns on dangote Flour. that offer no try at all. imagine was given less than 2,500 units out of 15,000 units paid for. they did put some interest on the returned money though but it's all rubbish.

Your own good.  If you hear the stories surrounding my FBN Returned Money of the last botched FBN PO, you will agree that I need to increase the number of doctors around me right now!  Almost everyone have gotten theirs, I don't know if I have offended the registrars, mine is still being processed by whom?  I don't know.  My other broker is as confused over the matter as the confusion in the allotment itself!  Looks like I need divine intervention on this matter.  What do you do when your broker tells you in a depressed voice "even me, I have not received my ownoooooo" .

Thanks bro. I dey try make I still put hand. I hope you are keeping very well and your stocks are moving "upward"  never to come down.  grin grin grin

Yes, to add my own, Pumping777, thanks very much for your generous contributions to this thread.  Everyone has benefitted from your insightful comments and down to earth analysis of stocks and capital market investment.  You are acknowledged as the 2007 MOST GENEROUS GURU.  If you continue in this pace you might end up winning the 2008 slot.

Wanajo passes as the MOST FATHERLY COUNSELLOR GURU of this thread.  As for Queen Mrs. WindyWendy, she is easily the MOST AUTHORITATIVE INFORMATION SOURCE, yes the lady who is soooooooooooooooooo generous with useful CORPORATE NEWS BEHIND THE NEWS.  You are all recognized.

Aktopgun is equally recognized as the BEST STOCK SURGEON there is on this thread, he has his own way of dissecting each stock he chooses to comment on.  ROUGHCUT may not be as rouch as the name sounds, even though constantly on the air, he finds time to disembark and tell us something newer than what we may already have known.  For that, ROUGHCUT will pass as the MOST MOBILE STOCK ANALYST OF ALL TIME.

Other awards to be given by my co-presenters.  Thank you.

Again,a good illustratioin in the way Trends are applied in trading was pointed out in predicting the Q4 earnings of GTB on previous pages on this thread.

If you recall, peeps were worried that GTB was looking like it wouldn't be able to meet its Full year PAT expectations based on its slow progress seen at Q3 result.

I think it was @WanajO who allayed fears by pointing out a predictable trend:GTB,from past 3 or 4 financial years(Wanajo has the retro charts),usually makes 50% of their full-year PAT at Q4 alone !

Interestingly though,it looks like this certainly would not be the case for GTB this Financial year.

I heard from a manager that they(GTB) lost several Billions due to the GDR thing, and it could have been more had it been they hadn't quickly sold when the Pound started depreciating to our Naira. . . . .

Sniper or Gunfighter,you've got to mix 'em. . . . nothin' full-proof in Stocks. . . . . .Use Technicals AND Fundamentals.

Behave like John J. Rambo  cool        cool        cool.

What then is the advantage of going GDR instead of the regular offer if that would amount to a loss as in the case of GTB? I have been wondering too if Diamond Bank is not equally affected for it is taking them ages to release their 3rd quarter result or am I missing something. One thing I have observed is that when companies have favourable result they are too quick to release when result however is poor investors are kept yawning endlessly.

Zenith and others must have learnt from the hard experience of GTB hence they settled for the regular offers. At the end of the day, HOME IS HOME. GDR nonsense!!!!!!!

My People,
I am seeking advice.
I use MBC securities and up until last year, I've never had any issues, despite having been through 4 account officers ( who leave fro one reason or another) and now the fourth one is becoming a real trial. I bought several POs & IPOs through them and everyone else is getting feedback on returned monies and allotment. I have asked my current officer if there is any feedback and he gives me the impression it isnt his work, one and two the registrar will get back to the individuals directly, I truly don't know what to believe.  PLEASE, Is there anyone else who uses them and has a reasonable contact?. my email is d328babe@yahoo.com. thank you.

I use MBC Securities and can say confidently that of all the FOUR brokers I have used, they score the highest.  Right now I am offloading my portfolio with other brokers on to MBC.  I am very sorry you have this problem.  Call to ask to speak with the MD, they have a new one now, and you can be sure your issue will be adequately addressed.  I have used City-code, Profund securities, Mainland trust, none has come any close to MBC in their service delivery - if they actually deliver any!  Call the MD and please try to be friendly, for service delivery in Nigeria is still passing through a phase - they may not be that courteous as you would expect, but try you will get your issue fixed.  With the expansion of the market, brokers generally are all under pressure!  MBC is it, they deliver!

Good reasoning. But sentiment rules NSE. Fundamentally.

The above statement remains true in BULL season, but in BEAR season as we all witnessed during the second half of 2007, FUNDAMENTALS, not sentiments, rules, hence it is always good to play safe.

which stock can remain afloat or even perform during bear time - that is often one of my questions when selecting stocks.
Investment / Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by MrRisky: 12:14am On Feb 03, 2008
QUESTION TO ALL

How many stocks should be held in the portfolio of:

1) A Short Termer (one month to one year)?
2) A Medium Termer (One year to 4 years)
3) A Long Termer (Five years till hand over to children)?

How many stocks can be sure to give maximum returns.  Or rather, in what way can a portfolio holder maximise or optimize his portfolio in the various horizons given above?

Can we all make our comments please.  I am sure everyone will benefit.

Na small he remain make you list the entire NSE ke grin grin grin The net is too wide. You should dig deeper and pick a few that you think will perform best.

Anyway, I have to disagree with you that ALL the stocks above are cheap based on forward projections from what we know now.

Examples. Japaul, CILeasing, Nascon.

I am not saying that these stocks will not do well but they are definitely not cheap based on fundamentals. Japaul is way way expensive.

@Pumping777,

You may be right, but I look at growth stocks like Japaul, C & I Leasing and NASCON differently.  Since they are growth stock, i enter them when i have the means.  I never treat growth stocks as expensive so long as their potentials remain unchanged and are even improving.  For sure, in the next few years these three stocks alone can grow to make anyone bouyant. At current price for me they are ok, as I am a medium to long termer.  They still remain for me cheap grin

@ All, I checked nsepro.com , Zenith Securities and my FSDH daily report. All have diff sets of closing prices. If u look at UBA, u'll see that the # of deals (and volumes) increases as you cycle through nsepro, FSDH and ZSL in that order. It seems the previous 2 rushed reports to clients and did not capture the final few deals that ZSL did. Which brings me to my question; isn't there a daily official list from which all floor members extract the final numbers that we see? Is there no way for the NSE to ensure uniformity of numbers?

May be the Dealers have not been given UNIFORM grin  Just kidding.  Yesterday when I took a look at the closing prices released by my various sources, TWR, NS, Profundsec, etc, it was clear to me that IT IS ONLY GOD THAT NOW KNOW THE CLOSING PRICES at NSE.  This is hazardous to any meaningful forecast sad

Anyways, so far in world record, NSE has the reputation of making a sane decision insane. When Evans Medical dropped due to its woeful result, some entered and have in less than 6 months recorded some percentage gains! Those who entered Dangote Sugar which has a universal recommendation are still licking their wounds if not for the 40k, 40k they receive quarterly for iodine or plaster tongue As for Guinness, with all its majestic PE and other multipliers multiples, the dance has been in the same circle since my wife took in and delivered grin In all of this Afroil whom I do not even know if it has management not to talk of quarterly reports has started turning out millionaires again.

So which is best? Technical Analysts views, Fundamental Analysts views or Commonsensers?

From all this bad news, it is like there is SPRING in WEMA.  Nawooooooooooooo  Even with juicy PE ratio no one is looking at that direction right now. NSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.  It gives me more reason to settle for known devils!!!!  They may not be high flying in capital appreciation but they can be relied upon to get there SAFELY!

I think our system is still part of the problem.  I have been following the news to read where our regulators PUNISHED WEMA for unduly delaying their results over a long period of time until they were released a few months ago, but no where.  They went scotch free and that might have kind of restored investors confidence in the WEMA jamboree and now, Vacation, Holiday, Leave.  Only in this WEMA saga I know that it is possible for only one staff to take Compulsory Leave, Vacation, Casual Leave, Compulsory Casual Leave, Leave of Absence, all at the same time.  May we be wise not to add more RISKS to our inherent risk of being alive!

Have you invested in a company whose Management forgot to release their quarterly results, SHINE YOUR EYES!!! Very Risky, riskier than even Mr. Risky cool

Can you stand when others bought at N3.95, and you are buying at N9 plus.  You may have to wait for the next one or more years if the the rumour turns out to be RUMOUR! That is the risk.
