THIS PAGE IS THE "BEAREST" PAGE in the history of Nairaland, and to add to that we have a "bearish" government too! What a bearish year 2008 has become!

There is hope though, as the market is gradually become sane at last!

When will Nigerians believe in themselves. The measures are sure welcome. If they did not do anything we will complain, if they do something we will complain. Now for those complaining etc. Tell me, what is the difference between prices being marked up 5% and down 5% and the present one 5% up and 1%. Now the former 5% up and 5% down, was it dictated by market forces or is it not still the same regimented price movement? The changes and regulations are welcome. Many will sit here complaining, while others will take full advantage of this upturn to make their millions. Sit there and be complaining, as at today, some have recorded 5% already on the stocks they gather liver to buy two days ago. Interestingly even if the prices go down tomorrow they are losing only 1%. If you don't like this I wonder what on earth you are doing at NSE. Don't buy yet I will sell to you later at a much higher price by which time you would have gathered more confidence in the market. REMEMBER, it is MARKET, nothing more than that. And Nigerian Market at that!

Took a shot of her (picture) washed it, hanged it. Gee, this is the smartest thing i've said on nairaland! Mr. Risky, time to eject from Transcorp?

Thanks Bele' for your smart reply. I know some ladies must have been looking at me with one kind eye 'how can a loving husband shoot his wife' bla, bla. Na photo en take am ooooooo. Ok

I bought Transcorp then at N9.71 when I didn't know stocks would need to be analysed, like searching for a good wife. Now the question is back to you, should I bail out now cheesy cheesy cheesy

The guy who took N40m facility, this is the best time to take position now.  I can see the BULL galloping towards NSE but the distance is a little distance away, hence the distance may not be bridged in a good distant time grin grin grin grin

My friends wife told him, 'thank God for the BEARS, its only now since January you can look away from your portfolio at least to admire me' cheesy cheesy cheesy

That really reminds me of the following PUZZLE:  Who dares??

"A husband shot the wife, buried her in water, and later hanged her. Her relatives came and they all including their hanged sister had a dinner together".  How can this be possible?  How?

You are all welcome back. I had thought you guys would forget about stock at least for the next three months, afterall the bears are all here grin

Anyway, for now you need to joggle your brains. Just try and see if you can read the following. If you are able, then always rely on your instincts to invest. Do you really need analysis? A few candles are just enough, and AKT is currently discussing with a Candle producing firm in the States. We are looking for multiple colours this time, not just doji and red marubazu grin grin grin

This one is simply the simplest of all.  Just choose out of the options.  That's all.

On the run, you are desperate to get into a place of safety. Faced with the following options, which do you think is safe enough for you? a) A room packed full with deadly explosives which can give off in a matter of minutes; b) A room housing three dangerously hungry lions which have not eaten for three years; c) A room packed full with condemned criminals with lethal weapons ready to be used anytime against any new entrant.

invisible!:

Mr Risky just reminded me about Americans, now a 14 year old Nigerian born in USA visited this country with his dad. While at M/M airport, the boy ws observing things quietly. As they sat down waiting for a car to pick them up, the guy boy remarked that all the bad news peddled by CNN about Nigeria is false.

the father asked 'why do you say so?

the boy looked up and said 'there has been electric light in this hall since we landed here ten minutes ago, and CNN said the other day that power goes off after every five minutes in Nigeria?'

the dad was about to explain when, suddenly the light went dead and everyone around shouted 'up NEPA!

The dad swallowed his comments and led the boy away to the waiting airport taxi.

You can't believe this really happened to me.  After a while outside Nigeria's shores, it was power failure at the airport less than 5minutes of my arrival that reminded me that we landed safely grin grin grin

Do you fly often?  You might find this interesting.  Even if you do not fly frequently, you might well relate to this.  In any case, just try give the correct answer here:

Now the tori,

"During the second republic in Nigeria, a plane was flying at 20,000 feet over Nigeria and Cameroun territories.  If you recall, the Bakassi issue was still on.   Anyway, during the flight, two of the engines failed.  The pilot, realizing that the last remaining engine was also failing, decided on a crash landing procedure.  Unfortunately, the third engine failed before he had time to attempt an emergency landing, and off it went, nosedived and crashed beyond recognition at Bakassi.  Where were the survivors buried?"   A) Nigeria; B) Cameroun; C) Bakassi.

Next, a blind man comes into the shop who wants to buy a pair of sunglasses; how does HE indicate what he wants?

Well let's have some more fun since NSE is on FORCED HOLIDAY.

Could the following pass for a teaser? Just try anyway. How familiar are you with vowels in the English Alphabet? Can you quickly recognize them? Then try this one:

Mary's father has five daughters: 1. Nana, 2. Nene, 3. Nini, 4. Nono. What is the name of the fifth daughter?

My dear brother, please shine candle on Fidelity. I have too many KG that selling is about half a million loss. I am really considering counting my loss and move on to something positive.

Just wait a little. The motto of Fidelity is "WE ARE FIDELITY, WE KEEP OUR WORD". It was on offer today, anyway. It will hit no less than N18 before the year runs out. Don't think you need candle or stick for that. Just wait.

Abeg o, ABC is losing and the number of deals is on the decline. What does this mean abeg because man pikin dey neck deep for that one O!
You are speaking my mindooooo. Yes, actually what do those "spinning" really translate to? Does it mean that the stock will spin investors' head? or the investors will spin the stock's head? This candle is one thing that has helped to remove the mystery in this enigma called NSE

AKT, for quick CICO, pls can you shine candle on any stock you think might release a VERY BAD RESULT, so I can position myself for the short term? That is the only thing that seems to work now. I did for NIGERIAN BREWERIES, and DANGOTE SUGAR, I am almost looking like a village clown right now all within just one month angry embarassed Sincerely I don't understand the anger, is it that they were expecting Nigerian breweries to give BONUS AGAIN or for DANGOTE to give 1 for 1? I have never seen were investors are AFRAID OF GOOD RESULTS

I can see DISAPPOINTMENT on the faces of those on the Unilever Train.  Who wants to receive dividend in coins for a N28 stock? undecided  Why can't they pay "Extra Ordinary Dividend", they always have "extra ordinary item".  I am available when they are ready, but not now.

I can see Dangote Sugar shooting after closure of register.  The happening year is knocking. The guy's strategy would be to release a fantastic 1st qtr result some time in April, and guys will go for more UBA pluses grin grin grin

But when will NASCON tell us what they have for those of us waiting on the queue?   Diamond Bank N19 plus in March? and FCMB N18 plus  This BEAR dey drink plenty BEER oooooo.  Hoping to tidy up a loan and shoot without missing, great BUY opportunities to average out are open, and yawning for recognition.

WHO CAN PREDICT NSE  Maybe in the 2nd Quarter, Motherof3 or Uncleof666 will do that tongue  And who takes those titles   Don't be surprise might be a neophyte in the game.  People who don't analyse but rely on instincts have made their millions in this 1st quarter.

This is about the unique NSE 1st quarter that analysis paralysed a lot of guys who could not but stand still helplessly watching FUNDAMENTALLESS stocks taking their giant strides up north.  I once asked about Ikeja Hotels, a guru here has said that the growth potentials is what is hampering the stock.  But today, from N6.70 to N10+, and yet DIAMOND along with other fundamentally sound stocks have painted my portfolio so red I cannot recognize the figures any more, why Afroil and Capital Oil guys are smiling to their pastors cheesy cheesy

I rest my case, anyway its a matter of time and season.  When I will begin to explode in these bank stocks, no one should write me any LOVE letterooooo or ask for my private email addresscheesy  I go just bone cool

Market Review
The week still saw a lot of transaction velocity in the insurance sector, much like the attention the banking sector enjoyed in its post-consolidation period. Now that a similar self-induced, second-phase capital base expansion process has begun in that industry as was witnessed in the banking sector, the prospect of growth in insurance business begins to look real. The current share offer of Standard Alliance Insurance Plc aims to boost its capital base to some N20 billion, just as is the impending offer of Staco Insurance. With these, insurance business should be getting much bigger and it's time to begin to indentify the future industry leaders, more a function the capital growth and a crack management team. Operators like Standard Alliance and Staco look poised to play in that class, just as we expect of AIICO, Crusader, Niger, LASACO and a some others. IGI looks set to get listed soon and will also be expected to fight for a frontline position in the sector.

In the conglomerates sector, Unilever, which is experiencing a price rally, is expected to sustain it on account of its significant recovery from a loss-making position. Its third quarter to September 2007 PAT of N1.524 billion, compared to a same-period loss of N1.388 for the preceding year, should portend better days for the stock. The company has been on a recovery effort and that is obviously yielding good results, expected to trend further up. Meanwhile, transactions in Transcorp shares were huge in the week, taking the second slot after Universal Insurance (see top trades chart below). The indication: just as there were stockholders wanting to get out, there were those that mopped it up. The stock, in the process, picked a 12.47% rise in price. While the direction of the company cannot easily be pinned down at this point, it's clear that no stakeh older, including the government, wants NITEL or even Transcorp, dead. So, should you really sell now or wait it out? If you have better prospects in an alternative investment, bailing out would be justified. Otherwise, waiting it out is an option to consider.

Though the banking sector still commands sustained volume strength (First Bank, Intercontinental, Oceanic, UBA and Fidelity were sector leaders in the week), it continues to trail the insurance sector in trade tempo. More remarkably, nearly all the banks picked losses in the past week (see chart). However, we think the sector's potentials haven't diminished, in spite of current market sentiment. Some have reported very strong earnings growth performance that should boost returns expectations. Consider these, for instance: Fidelity's 160% growth in PBT for Q2 to 31/12/07, Oceanic's 160% PBT growth in Q1 to 31/12/07, Access bank's 206% PBT growth for Q3 to 31/12/07, Afribank's 207% growth in Q3 PBT to 31/12/07 or Bank PHBs 315% growth in PBT for Q2 to 31/12/07. The top level banks have earned well too: UBA 100.66% Q1 growth in PBT or First Bank's 70.37% growth for Q3 to 31/12/07. Taking the results on their face value and considering the ex pansion drive of most of the banks, the current price weakness in the sector needn't cause a panic.

I have been aiming to sell my Dangote Sugar as soon as they will release result thinking that that would move the stock, NOW the very REVERSE is the case.  Yes, the price will trend up, BUT WHEN??  If people are not impressed with BONUS and DIVIDEND, and are obsessed with LOSSES cry cry.  What should be the tricker  Just wondering?  I wish I had sold it when it rose to N51 undecided
