It hardly needs saying that ithas been a horrendous week for Arsenal.
Home defeats by Blackburn and Bayern Munich in separate cup competitions have left Arsene Wenger's side on the brink of an eighth season without a trophy.
With the way their season has collapsed, their realistic priority is to qualify for nextseason's Champions League by finishing in the Premier League's top four.
I don't foresee any imminent threat to Wenger's tenure but the next month will be ashard for him and Arsenal as the last week has been. Before visiting Bayern in thesecond leg of their Champions League tie, they face two rivals for a top-four finish - Tottenham and Everton.
Saturday's home game against struggling Aston Villawould therefore appear to be the perfect antidote to Arsenal's troubles. Villa have a poor record in this fixture, although they have fared a little better since theGunners moved to the Emirates.
It will be interesting to see how Wenger freshens up theside, particularly a defence that's looked so vulnerable. Arsenal also need to get the crowd behind them by starting well, which they haven't been doing. They'vetrailed at half time this season as much as they've gone into the interval ahead,but their second-half record is unrivalled.
That could be a concern for Villa, who have tended to falter in the second half of matches this season. There was a rare exception in theirlast game, a much-needed win over West Ham that lifted them out of the relegation zone.
Manager Paul Lambert has said Villa must be prepared for "12 cup finals" as they battle for survival. Anything from this game or their next one, against Manchester City, would be considered a bonus but they then face twoof their relegation rivals, Reading and QPR.
The next few weeks, it seems, will have a considerable bearing on the end-of-season outcome for both Arsenal and Villa.

A late surge for the title appears to be beyond Chelsea, but overhauling City for second is within reach andthere is likely to be little to separate the teams on Sunday. Chelsea could be justone point behind City after this weekends game.
Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany remains a doubt for the champions' Premier League game with Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
The Belgium defender has missed four games with a calf injury and manager Roberto Mancini admits the problem is taking longer to heal than expected. He will however have a late fitness test prior to the game.
Meanwhile, Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard will feature after being rested against Sparta Prague on Thursday night. Ashley Cole and Branislav Ivanovic are in a similar position whilst Demba Ba also returns after being cup-tied.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has concluded plans to collaborate witha safety organization toinstall surveillance cameras in all the major highways across the country. This isin a bid to curtail violationof road traffic laws and ensure there’san eye out to see when criminal activities are being committedon our highways.
A Memorandum of Understanding,MoU, would therefore be signed this week between the government and Risk and Accident Prevention Society of Nigeria, RAPSON in a move that will bring about theinstallation of 10,000 units ofsmart cameras and 13,000 sets of memorycensors on thenation’s highways.
Chairman of RAPSON, Mr Ben Koko Odohofre while speaking ton newsmen in Abuja said the organization was set to employ 300,000personnel to work on the project.
RAPSON is an organization with the objective to save lives andreduce the toll of injuries and death resultingfrom accident and violence on roads.
According to Odohofre, a committee comprising the State Security Service, SSS, the Nigeria Police, Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIO, and Federal Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Works, Ministry of Justice and Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, would work with the organisation onthe project.
The Chairman/CEO said the company as a player in the private sector,would source the funds whilegovernment would enforce the project.
“Government would fine offenders whilethe percentageof money realized from the fines wouldbe shared between government and RAPSON. However government would provide its agencies which would drive the project. The police would arrest the offenders whilewe are asking the police for 5,000 men,” hesaid.

The Nigeria Football Federation want a semi-final finish for the Super Eagles in the FIFA Confederation Cup in June this year in Brazil.
Nigeria is drawn in group A alongside World Champions Spain, world cup semifinalist,Uruguay and Tahiti.The two top teams from the two groups will qualify for the semi final.Group B is made up of Brazil, Italy, Japan and Mexico

CEO of Kennis Music, the label Goldie was signed on, Kenny Ogungbe has issued a statement detailing the final hours of the late singer.
"With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey. Goldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache shortly afterher arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award.

In fulfilment of his pledge to the Super Eagles in Johannesburg, South Africa onMonday, Dr Mike Adenuga Jr, (GCON), chairman, Globacom Limited, on Tuesday night in Abuja presented a cheque for N160 million to the Super Eagles for winning the 29th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The event was held at the Banquet Hall of Dr Mike Adenuga’s residence in Maitama, Abuja.
Dr Adenuga also announced that a Range Rover SUV and aToyota Camry car will be presented to the chief coach, Stephen Keshi in addition to paying for his official accommodation.
He commended Keshi for his commitment, adding that, “he has done the nation proud, that is why it is important to reward him.”
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Adenuga said “we are indeed proud of the achievement of the Nigerian national team at the Africa Cup of Nations. I congratulate the chief coach, Stephen Keshi, the rest of thecoaching crew, the players, the Nigeria Football Federation and the Federal Government for this important victory which has rekindled hope among our people.”

“His purported resignation came in as a shock to me and the country because we were all in joyful mood and were notexpecting that at all,” Nwosu said.
He said that Keshi was a former player that had coached some African countries and has the experience to know what it entailed to coach his country.
“I believe strongly in him and his ability to revamp the Super Eagles because he was a former player and had also coached some other countries,” he said.
Keshi coached Togo from 2004to 2006 and Mali from 2008 to 2010 before being hired for the Eagles.
“I hope by rescinding the decision, this will help to strengthen his relationship with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for the good of football in the country.”
Nwosu said that Keshi had done his best and deserved to be respected for his achievements.
The Super Eagles will represent Africa at the FIFA Confederations Cup to be staged from June 15 to June 30 in Brazil.
