P opular singer, Abolore Akanda (9ice) recently contested for the Federal House of Representatives, Ogbomosho North/ Ogbomosho South/Orire Federal Constituency on the platform of his party, APC but lost out at the primaries. He spoke with Vanguard Newspaper in an exclusive interview: What’s the greatest lesson you’ve learnt from your experience in politics? I’ve learnt that Nigeria lacks leadership. It’s ‘moneyticians’ that they see, and they have no choice but to follow whoever they see. During the course of my campaign, I learnt a lot, and I got closer to the people. I listened to their yearnings, and realized that they want a lot of things, but are not getting what they want. I will also implore people who have the passion to lead their people to offer themselves up for service. The people that we have there now are not leaders; they’re just there for whatever they’ll gain. This is your first shot at politics, but what would you say is your ultimate ambition? My ultimate ambition in politics is to become the governor of Oyo State. However, I’ll still run for the Federal House of Representatives to serve my constituency in the next election. I believe I can serve in that position very well, and I also know that I stand the chance to become the governor of Oyo State. As the Special Adviser to the Oyo State governor on Youths, what are your plans for the people of the state? My plans are to spring up so many ideas that I already have at the back of my mind. Initiatives like the Governor’s Cup in terms of Sports, and also by organizing debates. The era of debates has died, and I think we need to encourage the brilliant students who have the capacity for that in Oyo State. I intend to present such students to the governor so they can be supported academically, and if the powers that be support the idea, then I think we’re good to go. How do you intend to combine your role as a public official and an artiste? I don’t think one disturbs the other. My political office is during the day as Abolore Akande, and music is performed at night by 9ice. I think I have already differentiated the two. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/05/my-ultimate-ambition-is-to-be-governor-of-oyo-state-9ice lalasticlala

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said all funds for the payment of allowances of all National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) members and ad-hoc workers engaged for the 2015 general elections have been released to those affected. The Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Mr Kayode Idowu, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja. Kayode said it was possible for some of ad-hoc workers not to have received their money due to error in the bank account details submitted for the payment of such allowances. He said that for the corps members, their money was paid directly to the NYSC scheme even before the elections. “This was acknowledged by the Director-General of the NYSC on the day INEC and officials of the directorate held a joint news briefing. “The D-G actually stated that the monies for corps members have been paid to the scheme, for onward payment to the corps members as agreed. “They were to be paid an initial sum before the election and the balance after the election. I am very sure that the directorate has done that. “For the non-NYSC members, they were requested to submit their account details and they were also paid an initial amount and then the balance after the exercise. It is very likely that, this had been done,’’ Idowu said. He, however, admitted that there were isolated reports that some ad-hoc workers had not been paid their allowances. Idowu said he had spoken with the Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) of the affected states, including Lagos, on the matter, saying most of the outstanding cases were due to challenges associated with submitted account details. He said while it was compulsory to pay the money through the bank, it was possible that some of the submitted bank accounts may not be active. “I also heard a REC speaking on television explaining that people should bring their account details as some of the details submitted were not valid or correct which created a challenge in accessing the accounts for payment. I have heard cases that some people will write their names but filled in their fathers account, such account cannot be accessed because it is not the father’s name that was there but theirs. “That is why they had the challenge otherwise the money had been paid out by the commission.’’ Also asked if the commission actually experienced any financial challenge in the conduct of the 2015 general election, Idowu said that the budgeted money was provided before the election. READing! *modified* The first she does that, we could say 'Oh, she was angry and unconscious'. The second time she does that we can still find an excuse and call it coincidental, 'such will never happen again''! But the third time signifies intention. What I would have like to know which the OP didn't report is her actions afterward, maybe she use to sho remorse and apologize but all that doesn't matter anyway. I have to salute that man's courage to manage the crisis he actually over-manage bad thing, he should have reported her to parents and relative after the 3rd occasion and warn that he's going t divorce (you don't have a wife if u got beaten by ur so called wife every now an then) her when such happen again. He should not have allowed her break the covenant with God. I will suggest he divorce her! not that he doesn't have the power to beat but he has vowed not to in his life and seeing the type of woman she is, he has to prove this point today. |
Power supply from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has dropped from 2,979.06 Mega Watts (MW) recorded last Sunday to 2,817.05MW on Tuesday, the Federal Ministry of Power said. Supply by Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, according to the power statistics which the ministry posted on its website yesterday, dipped by 162.01MW in the period under review. Of the 2,880.72 MW that the Electricity Generation Companies (Gencos) produced, the TCN wheeled 2,817.05 MW to the Electricity Distribution Companies (Discos), leaving 63.67MW stranded in transmission. The electricity market, however, reached a peak of 3,114.60MW from the 2,893.7MW recorded last Sunday, showing an increase of 220.9MW. The Group Executive Director, Gas and Power, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. David Ige, explained that the loss of 400 million standard cubic feet per day (mscf/f) of gas and reduction in water level at the hydro plants was responsible for the decline in power supply. According to him, some major pipelines were out of operation because they were vandalised as generation from Shiroro hydropower plant dropped to about 300MW due to inadequate water level. Ige assured that once the water level hits about one billion cubic feet a day (bscf/d), the electricity market would record a significant improvement. The NNPC chief was quoted as saying: “At the moment, gas supply to power stations is about one billion cubic feet a day (bscf/d). Before the end of this year, we expect to see a significant increase as well. Cumulatively in the country, we are producing about two billion cubic feet of gas per day. Some of the gas we produce are available, but is probably stranded because some of the plants are not ready. For example, we have got gas at Gbarian-Ubie power plant, commissioned shortly. We have gas at Omoku, which is awaiting the power plant. We have gas at Egbema power plant. When you bring all these volumes together, we have close to two billion cubic feet per day.” But, the management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company yesterday explained the reason for the loss of electricity supply to some parts of its franchise area, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). In a statement, the firm said the loss of power supply was as a result of the sharp drop in the quantum of power made available to it by the System Operator, which it said was attributable to a (partial) system collapse. The company, however, said all concerned players in electricity supply industry, especially the generation and transmission companies, were already working on the system with a view to restoring supply as quickly as possible. Pledging that it would immediately distribute the load allocated to it by the System Operator, the management appealed for the understanding of its customers. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/electricity-supply-drops-to-2817-05mw/ Cc: lalasticlala |

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, on Thursday, took one Adeogun Olajide before a Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly importing 2.692 kilogrammes of cocaine into the country. Olajide, said to be an official of the NDLEA, was taken before Justice Saliu Saidu along with one Adams Michael, a.k.a. Chidi, with whom he allegedly conspired to commit the crime. The two men were arraigned on four counts bordering on importation of cocaine without lawful authority. The offence, according to the prosecution, was contrary to sections 11(a) and 14(b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. The prosecutor for the NDLEA, Augustine Nwagu, alleged that the defendants committed the offence between January and March 2015. The prosecution alleged that the accused persons were found in possession of 2.092kg of cocaine on February 24, 2015 at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos. NDLEA also alleged that another 600 grammes of the illicit substance, believed to be imported, were found on the accused persons on March 8, 2015. But upon reading the four counts to them before Saidu, both Olajide and Michael denied the claims as they pleaded not guilty to the charges. Following their plea, the NDLEA prosecutor urged the court to allow the men be remanded in the agency’s custody pending when investigations into the matter would be concluded. “My Lord, in view of the plea of the accused persons, may we humbly ask the court to order the remand of the accused persons at the NDLEA facility pending the conclusion of investigation into this case; investigation is still ongoing,” Nwagu said. However, lawyer for the accused persons, Mr. Benson Ndakara, while pointing out that his clients had been in the custody of the agency since March, urged that they should be allowed to go on bail. Saidu, however, remanded the accused persons in the NDLEA’s custody for seven days, pending the conclusion of investigations. The judge said if the investigation was not concluded within the time, the court would have no other option but to hear the defendants’ bail application. He subsequently adjourned further proceedings in the matter till May 14, 2015. lalasticlala|| www.punchng.com/metro-plus/ndlea-official-arraigned-for-cocaine/ |
Family members angry; wife gets bag of rice, beverages By Esther Onyegbula LAGOS—The 45-year-old commercial driver, Saturday Akpomose, who was attacked by seven dogs at Ajah area of Lagos State, has received N30,000 and a job offer from the owner of the dogs. However, his family members expressed anger when they heard that Akpomose collected money from the dogs’ owner, who is a soldier. Vanguard learned that the victim, who was admitted at Akodo General Hospital after the attack, was discharged on Friday, May 1, after about eleven days. It was gathered that before the victim was discharged from the hospital, he demanded N5 million compensation from the soldier, but was persuaded and later given N30,000 to take care of himself, while a bag of rice and beverages were also given to his wife. When Vanguard visited Akpomose in his residence, he said the money given to him was not a pay-off, as the man had promised to further take good care of him and his family. He said: “I believe you saw all the injuries on my body. They have not healed completely. I collected the money from him because I am not a troublesome person. I have left everything to God. ‘How I defended myself’ “When the dogs attacked me, I tried to protect my neck, my private parts and my stomach, because I knew if the dogs touch any part of these places, I am gone. “That was one of the reasons I decided to settle out of court with the owner of the dogs. If I had died my family member would have collected the money and enjoyed it. “However, I cannot work with him. All I want him to do for me is to assist me in my hotel business. How can I start waiting for salary at this stage, when I have grown up children who are in the university to cater for?” When Vanguard visited the house where the dogs are domiciled, the Chief Security Officer working in the building, who identified himself simply as Victor, said the matter had been settled out of court. He said: “After we footed his medical bill, he was demanding N5 million from my boss to set up a business and feed his children, claiming that he cannot work now due to the injuries all over his body. Family’s ritual claim ‘’But to our surprise, after the incident, Akpomose’s family members came to our house and started accusing us of using him for ritual. They claimed that after the incident, we slaughtered four cows and rams to appease the gods in the house. “We have told his family members, who are threatening us with law suit, that after settling with the victim, they should go ahead with whatever they want to do because we have done our best. “My boss gave him a bag of rice and some beverages to take care of the children.” It would be recalled that in the early hours of Tuesday, April 22, seven dogs, allegedly owned by a captain serving in the US marine, were reportedly being taken out of the compound to ease themselves when they attacked Akpomose. It took the intervention of residents and passers-by to rescue him from the dogs. The incident was later reported at Ogombo Police Division, which referred Akpomose to the General Hospital at Akodo, Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area due to the severity of the injuries he sustained. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/05/man-attacked-by-7-dogs-gets-n30000/ |

1. Mrs Loneliness: Your husband is out there looking for your means of livelihood, you shouldn't be cheating on him. Though, I'm often critical of men who travel for long period of time putting their wife in the mercy of other men. Mrs. Loneliness can always find something to keep herself busy! 2. Mrs. Excitement: You are not ready for marriage if you call it dull , you better go back to the street and enjoy yourself man instead of cheating on that man. Marriage is sacred and it's about making sacrifice. 3. Mrs. Paypack: I have just one word for you, 'an eye for an eye will make the nation go blind'. 4. Mrs Sex Urge: I quite speechless there, your husband actually fall my hand. 5. Mrs Ex. Factor: I have you and your parents to blame here, and your husband should not suffer for that. Besides, you ought to know that we may not always get married to the person we truly love. It's alway like, the man you are running to might be a beast if you had been married to him. |

The Lagos State Government said it paid more than N535m as examination and administration fees for 42,995 pupils writing the 2015 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination in the state. Four new secondary schools were also constructed in the last one year, while three laboratories were installed in 32 public secondary schools across the state. The Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, said this at the annual ministerial press briefing in Lagos. Oladunjoye said the newly established schools included Sango Junior Secondary School, Agege; Ajara Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Ajara-Topa; Community Senior Secondary School, Orisumbare, Ayobo, Alimosho; and District Senior College, Meiran, Alimosho . According to her, some of the highlights of the programmes of the government in the education sector include the introduction of Saturday coaching in core subjects such as Mathematics and English, as well as the procurement and distribution of 524,219 books to public junior and senior secondary schools in the state. “The state government has upgraded its French Language Centres to multilingual centres for the teaching, learning and promotion of foreign languages other than French. About 400 teachers were trained in ICT curriculum just as Mathematics trainings/clinics were held for 14 teachers across the six education districts in the state on modern and innovative techniques of teaching mathematics at the National Mathematics Center, Kwali, Abuja. “This clinic/training has since been cascaded to other teachers in the state, as another 442 Mathematics teachers were trained in the process. Let me stress that this was part of government’s ongoing efforts to improve the teaching and learning of Mathematics in schools with a view to achieving improved performances in internal and external examinations,’’ she said. In his remarks, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Lateef Ibirogba, said the education sector was the bedrock of human development. www.punchng.com/news/we-paid-n535m-wassce-fee-in-2015-lasg/ |

GAIDAM, Nigeria -- Niger troops have deported more than 3,000 Nigerian fishermen and refugees escaping Boko Haram, forcing them to undertake a brutal three- day trek in which at least a dozen people died, an official and witnesses said Wednesday. The refugees said they were compelled to return to Nigeria after Boko Haram last week attacked an island in Lake Chad. The Nigerians said soldiers arrived at the fishing village of Lelewa and ordered them to leave. Niger officials did not immediately respond to request for comment. On Monday, Niger said it was planning a military operation in the area to rout Boko Haram extremists and ordered its citizens to move further inland. Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency said it was alerted by Niger and sent trucks to collect the exhausted refugees at the border. The agency's Charles Otegbabe, director of search and rescue, registered the new arrivals in Gaidam town, in the northeastern Borno state. "We thought there would be about 2,000 but we have already registered more than 3,000 and there are still more people coming," he told The Associated Press. The refugees said hundreds more were on their way. "They didn't even give us time to collect our clothes. We had to abandon everything," said Lubabatu Isa, a 21-year-old carrying a baby strapped to her back. Isa and Nura Auwal, another refugee, said about a dozen people died during the three-day walk to the border. Auwal said they included a woman, Fatima Hassan, and her newborn twins. "There was no water. It was very hot. They collapsed and died. Nobody had any energy left to help them and we just had to leave them in the bush," said a distressed Auwal, 22. Niger is hosting more than 100,000 other Nigerian refugees who have fled Boko Haram and who apparently are being allowed to remain in camps outside the Lake Chad area. www.ctvnews.ca/mobile/world/niger-deports-3-000-nigerians-including-refugees-fleeing-boko-haram-1.2362084 Cc: lalasticlala |
