PoliticsWhat Are The Practical Best Ways To Hold Governors Accountable In Nigeria ? by MT(op):
We have heard it several times that the state governors should be held accountable by the masses. I feel this is a loose statement with no concrete implementation.

How does a poor, common man in Nigeria holds the all powerful Governor accountable without breaking the law.

The presidency is giving the state governors a lot of money to deliver at the state levels, how do we hold them accountable. Sadly, the state house of assemblies are ever complicit and rubber stamp for the governors.

Do we have the capacity as common Nigerians to hold these almighty governors into account. If yes, how?

Now i know why we have the least intelliginet people in two regions, save those who found themselves in cities with educated persons..... If these people dont know what to say, they should at least shut the Bleep up!

How do you stablize the Naira by borrowing in dollars!

If the Russian war in Ukraine didnt teach these slowpoke lessons, they should have realized that the only thing that makes your currency stabilize even if all the whole world is fighting you, is if you manage to make your currency sought after. Which Putin somehow pulled off by making the west pay for Russian gas in Rouble! Instantly the Rouble rised against the Euro, Pound, Dollars. But these mumu go go borrow in dollars and expect the naira to rise!

This is the mafia way Emefiele stabilized the naira, he made sure foreign company dont get dollars in Nigeria, making them adjust to keeping their income in Nigeria.... Simple economics which these Oluwole leaders no understand
So you are suggesting the FG starts asking for it's crude oil to be paid for in naira in order to strengthen it, just like Russia did. Right?

So, in a country that is not self sufficient like Nigeria, if you want to pay for ticket fare, or order goods from abroad, where will you get the dollars for it? How will Nigeria settle her international trade? You don't even know that a dollar is currently trading more than 100 roubles in Russia right now.

If you are in charge of Nigeria economy, you will easily bankrupt it.

Sometimes, when you choose to always criticise government policies and moves blindly, all in the name of opposition...you end up appearing empty!

The economy is on the brink of collapse...fuel subsidy is removed and there is pressure on price of PMS due to rising cost of crude.

There is scarcity of FX for PMS importers, because CBN cannot meet their FX demands..

This is forcing these players to source for FX at black market and the resultant effects is more pressure on Naira that has already been devalued..the gap between official and black market rates keeps widening...and the prices of goods and services are skyrocketing.

So, what exactly is bad in NNPC sourcing for their own FX and possibly that of PMS importers from international partners like Afrixim bankhuh
This move, yes temporary, will ease off pressure on the demand for scare FX since the PMS importers are the major consumers of FX.

Hopefully, this temporal measure will give ample time for atleast PHC refineries to start working.

So, nothing wrong in technically buying time to resolve some issues like fixing of refineries.

This move will also strengthen the Naira and the fear of increasing the PMS pump price.
The creativity behind the policy without having to result to subsidy regime is worth applauding on its own

Borrow dollar to stabilize naira and use the dollar pay for import, after it has been depleted. loan has to be repaid. Makes no economic sense.
This loan won't be repaid with cash. The collateral here is certain volume of untapped crude oil still inside the ground.

Why calling it waste of resources.

A lawyer, who does not take laws into his hands, approaches the bench for a judgement and you are calling it waste of resources.

You do not know that he is about to set a judicial precedent which will guide all Nigeria Courts if similar case happens in the future anywhere.

The lawyer should be applauded and not villified. Constitutionally, Nigeria is a SECULAR state which means she has no religion. Any attempt to force your religion on others is running contrary to the Nigeria constitution.

Trump actually called the governor or the electoral officer in Georgia asking him to influence the 2020 presidential election in his favour. This was recorded on the phone and a strong piece of evidence.

No indictment is deemed "nonsense" once there are evidences to back it up. You are not the prosecutors in any of the cases. It is not only phone calls that make for irrefutable evidence.

You need to listen and learn from people that know more than you. The Goodluck Jonathan administration made a great mistake by removing history from our school curriculum. There was a fight to death in history of Yoruba during the pre-colonisation era, Just like the movie Jagunjagun. The then Alaafin Oyo(Sango that they call god of thunder) envied one of the warriors (Gbonka) . And asked him to fight till death with a powerful war general, Timi Agbale( that used bow and arrow ) thinking Timi will defeat Gbonka easily. But Gbonka defeated and beheaded Timi who happened to be his friend. That made Gbonka challenged the then Alaafin to duel (fight to death) . look for history textbooks read about the history of various African tribes. You will see that Woman king movie was a misinformation. That is why I always laugh when I see some children calling Yoruba tribe cowards on nairaland.
Baba Historian, the story you cited was a battle not a wrestling - Alaafin Sango asked Gbonka to match on Timi for refusing to pay him his due. Gbonka and Timi used to be friends. When Gbonka realised that his own army, as instructed by the Allafiin was planning to get him killed, he suggested a 1 to 1 fight between him and Timi, while their respective armies watched them fight. It was purely a decision made by Gbonka.

Alaafin Sango NEVER asked them to fight to death. Stop upending history!

Also, Gbonka never challenged the Alaafin to a fight as you incorrectly stated - He asked Alaafin to either die or abdicate the throne.

@impeccablephili you claimed to know so much, yet you know nothing about your very own history.

Read the account here: http://www.adabanijaglobal.com.ng/the-history-of-ede-town-series-2/

What we are saying here is the Yoruba do not have an arcade where people fight to death. It is not a culture to us like the Romans whose culture is to fight to death inside an arena.

Believe what you like, I am done having a rebuttal on this.

Who "foretold" it? Is it not Ifa?

The one that invades would have consulted the gods before the invasion. The one being invaded is only reacting to the attack (defending their villages), they are not the one that go into war.

Again, you are picking one phrase out of many sentences, very funny.

Gidigbo is a sport, a war skill, and also entertainment. So is Judo, Karate, and jui jistu.

When you have time, here is a free read for you about Gidigbo, the Yoruba martial art.

This article speaks to its entertaining, cultural, and even its arena display, and its war usage.

https://www.blacfoundation.org/pdf/GIDIGBO.pdf

Black man, know your history ✌🏾
Stop sounding this way to remain correct.

You have conceded that Yoruba does not use "gidigbo" to fight to death, rather it is for pleasure.

Thats the crux of our discourse. Case closed
TV/MoviesRe: Jagun Jagun: Femi Adebayo's Movie Gets Tongues Wagging by MT:
sunboy:
Okay, I called out many of your wrong assumptions up there.

For the gidigbo, yes it is for pleasure. And in special times like they portrayed in that movies, warriors could be ask to fight to death and the winner gets a reward. Also, in war times… digigbo is a war skill.. just like Judo and jui jistu are war skills they are also games.

Karate is a war skill and also a game. Being a competition don’t mean it’s exclusively competitive.

In the movie, they even portrayed the use of jazz to support his skills. The warriors had stuff tied to their arms to give them extra strength.

Lets me mash up our own story.
So you agreed that you misrepresented the bolded in your previous post.

Cite an example where warriors were asked to fight to death in Yoruba history. I will be willing to learn from you.

Why would a movie like Jagunjagun not show the art of war, especially how Ogundiji consults his gods? It's a critical part. Did Ogunjimi lead a war as a general in the movie?

Painting Ogundiji as a bad person after being shown to rescue a king at the beginning didn't add up. They should have dug deep to come up with a fantastic reason .

"Atamo atamo" ni in Yoruba Language.

While I respect your opinion but you’re wrong, know your history sir!

Yes Yoruba use ida oloju meji (sword) and knife since before the white man.

Going to the war and consulting gods is a must, but that movie hasn’t portrayed otherwise to that fact. Not showing the part doesn’t mean they portrayed it never happened nor happened.

Yoruba does have arena like Spartacus for warriors, even slaves if the king to compete during a ceremony… it’s called idije kidigbo

“The woman king” actually changed the actual story and the real narrative. I have personally been to that kings palace for tourism and other kings, visit Abomey sometime, there are about 16 kings palaces scattered around the city, you will get the authentic story from the tour guides or the locals. (You don’t glorify an oyinbo movie that changed our story and bring down our very own that portrayed it right!)

What we do not have are Dane guns… and that movie also portrayed in it that it was gifts from the white man. It clearly portrayed it in that movie.

Again, I respect your opinion but we must speak up for when our history is mashed up. That jagun jagun is very authentic. Well thought through movie.
In Yoruba culture, are you saying they fight to death at the bolded - "Idije Kidigbo"

What you referred to was just a local wrestling competition for the pleasure of the people.

Romans fight to death at the arena.

Don't mix it up, sir

You’re the one confusing myths with history. Most Yoruba battles were fought with Swords and guns, charms were used to supplement and enhance them. I suspect you’re confusing those old Abija movies for history.

I agree with you but @MT shouldn't have made a categorical statement like that by saying Yoruba's don't fight with swords. That statement is too categorical and so wrong at the same time, hence the huge criticism he has received so far.
I believed he has learnt something from this.
No lesson learnt

I repeat - Yorubas don't go into war without invoking the spirit of their gods - ifa, Ogun etc - through incantation.

Romans fight wars with swords and other weapons alone without incantations.

Yoruba will not go into warfare without charms and incantations, they can use any weapons in the process.

Tell me one scene that depicts this in a movie titled - Jagunjagun.

How did oyo empire become so strong

If you watch woman king, there were horses and sword fights too.

Ofa (bow and arrow) was used in Yoruba battles too. Have you seen Yoruba ancient statues and drawings. They depicted sword fights and use of arrows and guns.
I think you really underestimated the history.
And don’t be too swayed by the sword fights in Roman movies, those slow motions and battles are part of efisy to make it sweet too.
One man fighting like 50 soldiers and slicing them or dodging arrows . Lol
This movie is titled - Jagunjagun. I will expect critical part of warfare to be shown.

Where did Ogunjinmi consult his gods for direction on war? Which war did Ogunjinmi fight that depicts him as a warrior? What are the meaning of those kingdoms as it relates to the movie?

Did anyone attack the queen as Ogunjinmi commanded them to fight against anyone? Such a powerful man ought not to die that way in such a movie, it should take something extraordinary?

It's my experience, you are entitled to yours and I respect it.

To think some people believe Yorubas never used swords and the likes don't know their history at all.
No one says Yorubas never use swords. A typical Yoruba warriors would consult ifa, Ogun and other gods before proceeding on a war.

How many wars did Ogunjimi fight? What establishes him as Jagunjagun?

I repeat the movie is inspired by David and Saul story plus Spartacus movie. Go and watch "Anikulapo" movie. You will understand the depth compared to this hyped movie.

Yorubas just don't go to war fighting like Spartacus, fighting with swords and shields, without consulting their gods..

See, let me enlighten you the more. The Yoruba that most of you chestbeaters and tongue wagglers ignorantly call cowards today was a tribe with a martial culture and the only group of people in today's Nigeria that fought different wars that spanned a century. They fought with calvary and foot soldiers. The armies were organized with different cadre of leadership and they had a unified general in a person called the Aare onakakanfo. They fought with swords(Ida), spear/javelin (ọkọ), clubs(Kumo), bows and arrows (ofa). Later they fought with guns(ibọn) and also bought cannons from the British. They had Hausa slaves in their ranks and in the farms. The movie does not misrepresent Yorubas. Jealous monkeys everywhere!
How do I respond to a lost soul who called his people "monkey" like a racist Caucasian over movie rating?

Interesting that the thread has generated so many comments .

I was not impressed with the movie. It's my experience, and no degree of online bullying can change that.

What's the relevance of all the towns shown in the movie?

What intense war did Femi even participate in in the movie to depict the title as Jagunjagun?.

The ending is too predictable

JagunJagun is a spartacus scene plus David and Saul story combined. Agesinkole promax

Good visual effects, that's all. Storyline remains very poor.

It's an insult to compare "Anikulapo" movie with Jagunjagun. Who can predict that after the main actor died in the movie, he will still come alive. "Anikulapo" movie is a well thought, deep story acted as a movie.

Jagunjagun flaws will be forever hidden behind the visual effects.

It's my experience and you are free to have yours
