Will food stuff markets be in operation in accordance to Lagos model Only people with money (10% of the population) can stock food . The govt MUST understand that serious hunger can lead to civil disobedience, and the lockdown will collapse. |

Politics / Re: AMCON Officials Taking Over Ben Murray's Silverbird Cinema In Lagos by Musaspp(m): 4:09pm On Jun 23, 2016 |
The Asset Management Company of Nigeria took over this debt from old Union bank for management. No one should read political meaning to this issue. This is purely a debtor-banker issue. The debtor is Silver bird and not Ben bruce, the PDP Senator. The acquisition is based on a court ruling. Silver bird has the right of appeal. |

Politics / Re: Can Anyone Help Solve This Buhari's Mathematics On Fuel Price.???? by Musaspp(m): 1:37pm On May 12, 2016 |
driveiwe: This is a serious economic issue that should not be politicised. Yes the price of crude is down internationally. But unfortunately the oil cabals, using militants in Niger-Delta, will not allow our refineries to work because of the juicy "Oil subsidy". So we have to continue importing refined fuel in dollars. Unfortunately we do not have enough FOREX at CBN rate for the independent fuel marketers, that would have ensured that pump price of fuel reflects the global price of crude. The alternative is for the importing guys to source their FOREX from the black market. Why? Because FOREX was badly depleted by politicians in the last administration, as it is being currently revealed daily. The reality of sourcing USD at over N320 to 1 USD, with total deregulation in downstream of the oil industry and discontinuing of oil subsidy is the reason for the irony as you rightly pointed out. OUR PAST POLITICAL OFFICE HOLDERS MUST BE HELD RESPONSIBLE! 1 Like |
Politics / Press Statement On Current Fuel Situation - 'why Petrol Pump Price Was Increased by Musaspp(m): 1:18pm On May 12, 2016 |
We have just finished a meeting of various stakeholders presided over by His Excellency, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The meeting had in attendance the Leadership of the Senate, House of Representatives, Governors Forum, and Labour Unions (NLC, TUC, NUPENG, and PENGASSAN). The meeting reviewed: 1. The current fuel scarcity and supply difficulties in the country 2. The exorbitant prices being paid by Nigerians for the product. These prices range on the average from N150 to N250 per litre currently. 3. The meeting also noted that the main reason for the current problem is the inability of importers of petroleum products to source foreign exchange at the official rate due to the massive decline of foreign exchange earnings by the federal government. As a result, private marketers have been unable to meet their approximate 50% portion of total national supply of PMS. Following a detailed presentation by the Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, it has now become obvious that the only option and course of action open to the government is to take the following decisions: 1. In order to increase and stabilise the supply of the product, any Nigerian entity is now free to import the product, subject to existing quality specifications and other guidelines issued by Regulatory Agencies. 2. All Oil Marketers will be allowed to import PMS on the basis of FOREX procured from secondary sources, and accordingly PPPRA template will reflect this in the pricing of the product. Pursuant to this, PPPRA has informed me that it will be announcing a new price band effective today. We expect this new policy will lead to improved supply and competition, and eventually drive down pump prices, as we have experienced with diesel. In addition, this will also lead to increased product availability and encourage investments in refineries and other parts of the downstream sector. It will also prevent diversion of petroleum products and set a stable environment for the downstream sector in Nigeria. We share the pains of Nigerians but, as we have constantly said, the inherited difficulties of the past and the challenges of the current times imply that we must take difficult decisions on these sorts of critical national issues. Along with this decision, the federal government has in the 2016 budget made unprecedented social protection provisions to cushion the current challenges. We believe in the long term, that improved supply and competition will drive down prices. The DPR and PPPRA have been mandated to ensure strict regulatory compliance including dealing decisively with anyone involved in hoarding petroleum products. Thank you. SIGNED HONOURABLE MINISTER OF STATE FOR PETROLEUM RESOURCES

Nairaland / General / Sagay, Falana Condemn Senate’s Bid To Amend CCT Law by Musaspp(m): 12:09pm On Apr 15, 2016 |
The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), and human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), have condemned the move by the Senate to amend the law setting up the Code of Conduct Bureau and the Code of Conduct Tribunal, with a view to whittling down the agencies’ powers. The Senior Advocates of Nigeria said the commencement of the amendment of the Act, establishing the CCB and CCT by the Senate, had exposed the intention of the country’s legislators to encourage corrupt practices and shield corrupt leaders from prosecution. The Senate, on Thursday, passed for second reading, a bill for to amend the CCB and Tribunal Act barely 48 hours after its presentation by the sponsor, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, (Peoples Democratic Party, Delta North), on the floor of the upper chamber. It has also set Tuesday next week to begin deliberation on another bill meant to amend the Administration of Criminal Justice Act that will remove the powers of the CCT to try criminal cases. Both bills were presented on the floor of the upper chamber and read for the first time on Tuesday. Some observers wondered if the rush to pass the bill to amend the CCB Act was not a ploy by the red chamber to frustrate the current trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, at the CCT. CULLED FROM PUNCH NEWSPAPER. |
