Group General Manager, Corporate Affairs of NNPC RESIGN

By Olu Ojedokun, Ph.D.

Dr Levi Ajuonuma ( Group General Manager, Corporate Affairs of NNPC):

"I have followed the subsidy debate/protest and must confess that we at NNPC have not helped in the fight against corruption. I can authoritatively say that the N1.3trillion is not the true figure but given as a result of the corrupt tendencies of the cabal. This astronomical increase in 2011 was purely political. Also, our local consumption figure as published is absolutely incorrect.

For the sake of my children and children's children, we must investigate this fraud. From PPPRA, to NNPC, Independent Marketers, Port Authorities, retired Generals and Other top government officials. Although, the whole fraud existed before 2007, the reasonable take off should be 2007 to date.

Consequently, I have decided to resign my appointment as the Group General Manager, Corporate Affairs of NNPC."

Mba! as much as I'd love to this to be true, I simply can't afford that luxury at this time, what with the barrage alleged resignations we have almost unceasingly been assailed with.

Fist NOI, she denied. Then Abati, he denied. Now this?
PoliticsRe: Jonathan, Labour Leaders To Meet At 5pm Today by muyoto: 8:34pm On Jan 12, 2012
all those expecting a reversion to the old price are obviously living in a fools paradise.

If indeed the govt was going to revert to N65, do you they would invite labour in the first place? Think about it!!! That would give all the glory to labour and make them heroes! And it would make govt look weak § incapable. Trust me, thats the last thing govt wants.

The best we can hope for is some sort of compromise, say N80 - N100.

Though to be honest, i'm not very optimistic.
My thoughts exactly. I'm tempted the invitation is simply a means to buy the labour guys over.

its funny that the most compelling justification so far the bloated subsidy bill of the prevoius year has come not from Okonji Iweala, Sanusi or Allison-Maduake, but from a NLder!!!

I keep on inssisting, my distrust and dislike of his administration nothwithstanding, that the impeachment of GEJ at this point will serve no useful purpose. Not least because the possible replacemnts are unlikely to fare any better.

Impeachment of the entire PDP is a more appealing, albeit not feasible, proposal.

make we just manage GEJ till 2015.

AS for the move by the Senate, lets face it: anything to deflect heat away from themselves and thier violation of our treasury will be on the table--even if it means taking the executive head on. I commend them all the same.

PoliticsRe: Jonathan Goons Infiltrate Nairaland by muyoto: 8:58pm On Jan 10, 2012
Its not all those involved in the protest that oppose the removal of fuel subsidy (being one, I should know). Most of us agree the subsidy encouraged corruption, benefited an esoteric ''cabal'', and really made no meaningful impact on the common man.

Indeed, only an enemy of Nigeria would support the continuation of the subsidy ad infinitum.

The grouse, as I'm aware, has to do with the palpable--and indeed justifiable--skepticism regarding the commitment of this present administration to ensure a judicious utilization of the funds touted be saved from the subsidy.

The Nation editorial (09/01/2012) captured neatly:

It would have been easy to convince Nigerians with records of his achievements on roads and other national challenges if he had done tangible things before now. As a matter of fact, those are what should be speaking for him today, instead of trying to labour in vain to convince a people who have made up their minds as to how far they know he can deliver democratic dividend. To the extent that the President is just waking up to these realities, Nigerians should be wary of his promises. He has no such antecedent to make us entrust him with such spectacular performance that he is promising.

that's the point. its still unclear to a lot of people, and I suggest that until we get verification of what actually transpired it might not be a bad idea for us to exercise some restraint in our utterances.

I heard the interview myself on BBC network Africa this morning. His analysis on the BH crisis was quite revealing.

Its noteworthy that the playwright said he still believes in the ''Nigerian project''--as he calls it.

PoliticsRe: Should Johnathan Resign ? by muyoto: 8:10pm On Jan 10, 2012
No, he should not. All those next in line: Sambo, Mark, Tambuwal, ??, are unlikely to fare any better.

The entire PDP machinery resigning would have been a more appealing option, but since that is unlikely to occur, the grim reality is that we are stuck with GEJ till 2015.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria, lets Look Into The Future;lets Not Eat Our Tomorrow! by muyoto: 11:09pm On Jan 09, 2012
there is almost unanimous agreement that the subsidy had to go. it was killing the economy, we agree.

the issue, as far as I'm concerned is not even the much touted ''palliatives'' or the timing, but how transparent the utilization of the proceeds will be, given the not too encouraging spending habits of this administration.

take good look at the budjet for this year. it will give you an idea why Nigerians are skeptical
PoliticsRe: Jonathan Dragged Nigeria To Poverty. by muyoto: 10:52pm On Jan 09, 2012
I agree GEJ may not have ''dragged Nigeria into poverty'' --the title carries just a little bit too much sentiment.

There is however, serious questions this administration has to answer regarding its financial prudence and transparency,  some of which were raised by Fani kayode:

questionable increase of subsidy from 300b to 1.3t in just a year.

depletion of foreign reserve from $80b to $33b

depletion of ECA of about $20b

i   incurring debt of about $30b

N114b from so called ''stabilization account in about 8 months.[/li]

We are not accusing him of stealing anything. He should just and explain, with facts and figures, what the above money, totaling close to N15trliion was used for, that's all.

Until then, how does he expect us to trust him with the purported savings of the fuel subsidy removal, which we all agree had to go?
