bankole, true talk, i forgot about that ![]() tornadoz, not that I support Bush, but letz stick to what the US policy says and not the person. Don't quickly jump on board the "war monger boat" on this issue. As Iyke-D has said, in so many words, politcs makes for strange bed fellows. He may be saying we won't meet with him in public but who knows if Yar'Adua isn't already in the white house as we speak and/or Yar'Adua hasn't already been called by Bush and told that he shouldn't take the press release as anything insulting to his person? |
Let's not forget, technically, Yar'adua is not yet President (hence "elect" in his title, for now). Once he is elected, if the US doesn't want to meet with him (though they will, considering our oil), then that's another matter. Though I don't pray for it, a lot could still happen b/w now and the 29th. Why risk meeting with someone who may not be the president on the 29th? At that point, should they receive 2, 3, etc other president-elects? If the US has it in its rules not to meet a president-elect, then we should respect that, good or bad, and not bash them. Period! |
The way forward my friend, believe it or not, might even be in your hands ![]() In general, to improve, we need to stop offering jobs to election buddies and to those who are actually qualified. Better yet, if hands are tied, then only those election buddies with qualifications should get the job. Otherwise, even if it means paying more money, the jobs should be done by outsiders.
[li]Always study, to show thyself approved[/li] [li]Advertise (sell) yourself[/li] [li]Rather than doing business solo, join others to establish a larger organization[/li] [li]If necessary, put out a website, for the genre you are pursuing. Clients can then see what you do and contact you.[/li] [li]IT educational companies there should focus on all steps of the development process, and not just "how to become a webmaster in 2 wks"[/li] [li]As developers, we need to educate our clients when what they want doesn't make sense. This is as opposed to being code monkeys and factory workers.[/li]
I have a lot more in my head but I will "release" just the above for the time-being as I am sure others have something to say here. I hope this helps. |
To whom it may concern: How much does it cost to advertise in the (Akwa Ibom State) Pioneer Newspaper? For each price, what are the ad dimensions? If you also happen to know the rates for AKBC radio/tv, I would appreciate it as well. thanks in advance. |
http://www.nigeria.gov.ng/ , "the official information gateway of the federal republic of nigeria" seems to have run amok recently: images broken, slow download times, usability that is worse than what was there before, and a site that isn't working well in FF among others. For a site that is meant to promote Nigeria, a nation that is barely struggling to break useless stereotypes about corruption and 419, in my opinion, could have been better off with the former design. Anyone know when the new design launched? who did it? etc. Later |
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=070509172312.xbrzegl0&show_article=1 This in a way vindicates my argument that it is okay to bag a JAVA certification by age 12 but if there's nothing to show for it (jobs, business, etc), then you might as well have never studied for it. Being smart and achieving goals early in life is a good thing but if not utilized, it is a waste. |
Uhhm, You click on the "conact us", "about us" or "advertisement" link for each site you would like to advertise on and hope that they get back with you ![]() |
Are the mean streets of new york a safe place? what of the streets of san fran or LA? What of Boston or Atlanta? Of course, no where is totally safe. It is all about where you live. If you are that concerned, perhaps you should talk to your employers about having them provide security. Better yet, they should hire a local, who is intimate with the area, to do whatever job you are being sent there to do. I hope this helps. |
So, every now and then I visit the same websites so as to see how often they change their design/user experience. The site of the day happens to be Virgin Airways (VA): https://www.virginnigeria.com/en/ng/homepage.shtml Considering what they had before, I am pleased that the site is much better. Among others:
[li]Better navigation[/li] [li]Less graphics[/li] [li]Booking section shows me my itinerary as I click through each phase[/li] [li]Simpler layout[/li]
The only faults I could find (no blame me, I do this for a living ) was on the booking page:
[li]way too many javascript files[/li] [li]the "confirm" square at the top is not lined up with the rest, rather, it "falls off" the line. [/li] [li]Also, I don't know why they chose to change my mouse pointer into a cross-hair. It confused the heck out of me.[/li] [li]On the secondary pages, the position of the "home" link isn't consistent - on some pages, it is at the top, on others, at the bottom.[/li]
But hey, no site can be 100% solid ![]() If you know who developed the site, tell them say I troway major salute. Speaking of which, VA is looking for an E-commerce manager. Perhaps I should apply ![]() Now, who said simple can't look elegant? You get 50 lashes for that ![]() |
this is a catch-22 situation - the only time i am in the office is when i am in the office. Equating this line to Seun's post: the only time you can air your grievances is when you can't air your grievances ![]() |
I blv the late B.I.G. had as a lyric in one of his songs, "black and ugly as ever, however" ![]() |
astron, I jus dey - roving the earth, seeking clients to devour (uhm, I mean to work for ) |
astron, check out this page: http://www.webtechdesigners.com/designform.html you will see lots of errors/comments. Just thought you should know, as you never know who your next multi-million clients will be. 'hope this helps. |
gifosek, Since you say u r a comp. sci. graduate, why not start with your areas of specialization while in school? What were they? If you want to switch from that/those to software development, why? s/w development is good, but so are database, networking and animation. That's just my "one man's opinion" anyway. I hope this helps. |
In college, I was a JAVA Teaching Assistant. As my time to graduate approached, we conducted interviews for replacements for myself and others. Now, I don't remember the name well, but I do know that I did in fact interview an Obasanjo for the position. Based on his graduation date, this might be him. If not, then there was more than one OBJ at the school of computing. Anyways, back to the story: I didn't tell him I was Nigerian so he wouldn't expect any favors. I must confess, he was pretty smart and he was indeed hired for the position and the rest, as they say, is history. I am not surpised he graduated with high honors and is now working at MSFT. He deserves it. |
tribalist? maybe but definitely not racist. Check the defintion of racism before you raise such allegations. It all boils down to money. When you say "white", do you mean any oyibo on the road or quality actors/actresses? With pple like Julia Roberts, say, earning $20million per flick, do you think nollywood could afford her? I have watched a lot of movies and will say that I have seen Americans, british and asians in a few, so cut nollywood some slack ![]() Playing devil's advocate though, so what if nollywood is racist? We are discrimated against all the time, on their home turf for that matter. So why can't we retaliate on our own home turf? At least that way, we will earn respect as pple who have our own industry as opposed to doing anything to be a part of theirs. |
neroflick, na so o. When I was coming up in the programming world, we were made to learn Paschal. I think the reasoning is, and I could be wrong, it's all about logic and not the language per se. So by learning in an archaic, procedural language, you get a better appreciation for the latest generation, object-oriented languages. Just like history, you need to know where you were in order to know where you are going. Also, by studying it, you are not doomed to repeat it. Again, I could be wrong, but that is just my one man's opinion about it. |
If I understand where dan is coming from, then I think the answer is PHP - it is open source and free. Also, it is easy to learn and is actually very powerful if you know how to use it. Not to mention, thanks to the multitude of hosts out there, cPanel and phpmyadmin (is that the right spelling? ) are also very user-friendly.Finally, since the world is going in the direction of web apps, in my opinion, in addition to learning HTML et al, combining these scripts with PHP makes for pretty nifty web apps/sites. It is very easy to go download an e-book or two on PHP, learn it and put up a website, no matter how sloppy it looks. At least that's my 2 cent's worth ![]() |
some folks on www.webmastersofafrica.com might be able to help. Click on "Find a webmaster". It's revving up to be the #1 web/app development search site. So go ahead and look for one on there. It's not like you have anything to lose ![]() |
adds, There are also tons of designers at http://www.webmastersofafrica.com/find-webmaster-of-africa/ - many people, just like you, have obtained the services of Webmaster of Africa members. I hope this helps. |
Try this: £If that doesn't work, it might have to do with your encoding. If not already, insert this code in your meta tag section: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> If either of the above don't work, e don pass me then ![]() I hope this helps. |
I wouldn't call this abuse 'cause unlike the sites that made me place this post, your animation stops and doesn't "re-move" after a certain period of time. The wheell loads, then stops, allowing you to focus on what the site does - sell rims. Here is an example of flash abuse: http://www.unionbankng.com/ - the horse and the "big, strong" red text. I feel nauseous/like I am being hypnotized. I am sure there are others who feel the same way. I hope this helps. |
If i understand your post, it is not a surprise you are printing blanks. All you have done is connect to your DB and to a table. There is no interaction (as in no select *, or whatever SQL action you want to perform) whatsoever, based on your code here, b/w you and the DB. Try adding some kind of action and I bet you will get results. I hope this helps. |
job-wise, yes. "being self-employed"-wise, no. In the end, graduating with a high score doesn't guarantee success in life. The end justifies the means. It's not how you start but how you finish. You had no choice in where you were born but you definitely have a choice in how you will live your life. In the end, who says you are to do a job in computer science? Abi, you sign pact with the devil (so to speak)? The important thing is that you graduated. There are those who would die to have even 5th class but lack the financial resources to do so. It is very possible that though you graduated 3rd class, you actually grasped the material better than someone who graduated first class. Trust me, I have seen this happen. Need I say more? ![]() I hope this helps. |
UIE 12 conference. For details: http://webmastersofafrica.com/webmasters-of-africa-events/ It is held in November. That should give you enough time to get your visas (if applicable) ![]() |
So, As some of you may know, there is nothing more annoying to me than a site that abuses flash. You know what I mean: continuous animation, large bandwidth, etc. Anyways, so there is this SEO newsletter I subscribe to and there is a paragraph there that pretty much sums up what I don't think I have been able to get across in an eloquent manner: Flash is great - IF it genuinely serves the purpose of selling something for you. But the tool must be subservient to the job it's supposed to do. It is not a toy. Art is great for galleries, but it's a low priority for websites that are supposed to sell something.I just thought I should share ![]() |
Question: When can you start? Answer: When do you want me to start? Whether they say immediately or not, it is a courtesy to give at least 2 weeks. That way, you (if you are working) have the chance to leave your present employers on a good note. Technically though, just as your employers aren't obligated to give you advance notice before they let you go, you are under no obligation to give them any advance notice either. It's simply a matter of courtesy. You never burn your bridges because chances are that you will cross that same bridge again. |
wow, a girl giving a guy advice on where to go to flench a fellow girl. hmm, I guess the world is indeed coming to an end ![]() |
coming to think of it again, i think u need a 2D-array ![]() for(i=0; i<3; i++) { print i for(j=0; j<3; j++) { print j } } Again, very generic, but you should see where this is going. Hopefully this helps. |
busygirl, sorry, no hi5. If you don't mind, send it to the email address on my profile page. I'll be waiting ![]() |
Thanks busy girl. Brought to you courtesy of a fellow nairalander just like you ![]() Would you be too busy to send me your actual photo? ![]() |
