IAH, Since you mentioned me as #3, I was going to wait until Seun responded, but I just couldn't wait to chip in ![]() Layi has basically said it all. I would however like to add the following: 1) In your content section, make sure to use more of h1, h2, etc tags for headers and paragraph tags as a separator b/w paragraphs. Also use UL and LI for your lists, which includes menus. 2) In your keyword section, use phrases as opposed to single words. Research shows that most people search for stuff online using 2 or more words 3) To make your site SE-optimized, as opposed to SE-friendly, you really need to plan it out before you write your first line of code. That means everything from directory structure (so "abc.com/products/hammers.html" as opposed to just plain "abc.com/products/product1.html" to how you name your photos. 4) Make sure that your content is scattered with references to your keywords 5) I forget the meta tag, sorry, but there is one that tells the crawler to re-spider the site after a certain date. I hope this helps. Now, go conquer the world!! ![]() |
I think someone else posted a thread on this long time ago, but I will re-iterate. Using google adsense makes sense, but you may not reap immediate benefits if you don't generate a lot of traffic. Insert a few on your site, it won't hurt and it doesn't cost you a thing! ![]() |
Unfortunately, with Nigeria having 200+ languages, it will be tough for us to agree on one. That is why I tell pple that technically, Nigeria isn't a nation, by true definition of one. We are a nation-state. Rather than want to adopt queen's english, I would personally go for pidgin english That way, we are oyibo, but not exactly lol. Think about it folks, we could start a revolution in Africa as a whole. We could also be like some other countries where even though the leader know english fluently, they insist that they are interviewed in their language.Pretty much everyone in Nigeria speaks and/or understands pidgin. Abi, no b so? ![]() |
It might be too late to refactor the page to implement what I have in mind, but here it goes: 1) Have a banner ad at the top and bottom of the page. Highest bidder gets the top as users will c that first 2) Have a tower ad on the right hand side. This would mean shrinking the width of the page to accomodate that. either that or take out what u hv right now and insert the tower ad there. 3) as for potential ads, I would make the pple who advertise on the jerseys my first target 4) cd also make use of layers 5) dont exlcude adsense as, especially if enyimba goes far, at least a lot of africans will go to the site. 6) hv the management start advertising the site all over the country and continent. This will generate the traffic that dictates ad revenue. It is the only way companies will know it is worth advertising on the site. As for compliance , it isn't mandatory. After all, when u enter ur car, u dont care how it works to crank up, you just care that it starts and takes u from A to B. Having said that, by implementing standards, you cd significantly reduce load time as well as know for sure that your site will come up properly on all browsers.I hope this helps. |
phantomcat: The emeka site, I have seen before. I don't know if you took the pointers I gave out last time. The left, I see, is now text which is good. You have flash in the header. If you are concerned about search engines crawling ur site, bad idea. They read from top to bottom, so you may want to take it out and use CSS menus instead. The site still loads in 18 secs on a 56K modem. Bad, unless you are sure the site will be viewed only by pple using a certain speed. The background image you have on the site cd b implemented via CSS and put in the CSS file. That way, you take out some weight from the page. Check out the site I sent out. Only 3 images and they are all CSS background images. Try that. You will be impressed. Let me know if you need any help. I will be happy to offer ![]() |
Sorry phantomcat (and to others): In order to maintain the same architecture when the site goes live, I decided to move it to another folder. I have also added more content, so you and others get to c the site in its entirety first hand. Some links are still dummy links though, so beware ![]() http://www.eburutu.org/work/index.html . Let me know what you think. As for me being a master, I no sabi about dat one o ![]() I will also check out that updated emekaifez site and provide insight. |
Pretty impressive Nalijah, As I am sure you know (something the press won't share, unless it has to do with lions roaming in Kenya ), with some money and a good investment plan in mind, you can live like royalty in nigeria. You just need the money, thatz all. I look forward to meeting you at my favorite spot at Ibeno Beach some day ![]() |
Who should get paid the most is, and should be, all up to the free markets, period. If the free market dictates that the more the demand, the higher the price, then in this case, doctors obviously: - They go thru a 4 yr degree program like everyone else - They go thru a rigorous admission process into med school - some even go the extra mile to specialize - They are involved in the life-saving business - If they mess up, they can get their license yanked (I will only us the case of the US here since that is where I know what's up )However, if the free markets wake up one day and say nurses should get paid more, then so be it. This post though, is a no-brainer. I know bolex meant for it to be a trick question. Either that or he has too much time on his hands now that his exams are over ![]() |
Zule, now apply this to a photo of obj. I am sure you will agree with me that he can sure use better photos LOL |
Nalijah, The mere fact that you are on NL says a lot about your undying love for Nigeria and Nigerians ![]() Spread the word! There are those of us who actually are good lol |
Orikinla, As in all things from Africa that don't involve hunger, war or corruption, I am sure the stats exist but aren't being published. I mean, worse-case, they should at least have stats for their buddy nation, south africa ![]() Anyway, if you thought that stat is amazing, try this: In a recent issue of Entrepreneur magazine I read, 12 billion IMs are sent worldwide daily |
gunner, if ever i were to doubt what you said, I can't now, considering your username LOL The mere fact that u r a female (or are u? ) gunner makes it more interesting ![]() Either way, thanks for the info. |
Finally, Some decent pictures of baba LOL Nna, federal government should hire you o ![]() |
Lehmann better b careful now, going into the world cup - regardless of whether or not it was the right call by the ref, u can bet he will b watched, especially by those who already want his head for being chosen over Kahn. |
Very well said Idollier, My point, at least, was that it wasn't limited to Nigerian men. As a matter of fact, there are women who are involved in this too, but I digress. Y, oh y, it seems only Nigerians pick up the tab for bad behaviour in the US, I don't know ![]() |
Make I digress small: The way una dey speak Ibibio, very soon, e go become lingua franca for naija o! ![]() |
What hasn't Henry done for arsenal? Is it the FA cup, the premiership, breaking the goals scored record there or taking them to the champs league final? If I were him, I would move on to seek a new challenge. Of course he is good and his services would attract top euros. Barcelona? Considering what happened yesterday, I wouldn't b so sure about that, though in my opinion, that is probably the best fit for him anywhere in europe at the moment. Like Gerrard and Liverpool, I don't c him repeating his success next season. Coming to think of it, do they even qualify for europe next season? Thanks |
LOL Old Glory, I borrowed that from Akpan Isemin "your wife cooked you a very good soup and you call it etok afere" LOL If you think the periwinkle stuff is funny, YIM me, I got more. My username is udotot25. I am pretty sure you are cracking up now ![]() |
Regardless, some things r for sure: 1) Ajegunle market et al would be wiped off the face of the earth. Quite frankly, I am not sure I want that aspect of our history gone just yet (bad, in my opinion) 2) The various "unions (Like waterleaf union that tells its "members" to count actual sticks of waterleaf per bundle and to fix their prices)" would evaporate overnight (good, in my opinion). The pple don't understand economics and would probably resort to "air forces" rather than keep their prices in check. Trust me spikecylinder, walmart will find a way to make prices low. If not so, they wouldn't consider. As for the person (sorry, I forgot the name) who says that the corner markets are dirty, I would like to argue that though dirty, they define our society. Not to support it, but the walking in the mud pple have probably pissed in (eeeewww, but hey, na true no b so? ) on a rainy day; the bargaining till ur throat gets sore; the constant guarding of our property from sai monky; that is what makes our environment unique. I wouldn't even let anyone remove them for any reason. In fact, I heard that certain open-air markets have been made to move b4, but to no avail, cos of all the "forces" surrounding the establishing of such markets (but I digress).I am so happy for the input guys. Very interesting. Na dis kind post I dey like. Not the ones about sex positions LOL |
LOL nalijah, I take it you are married to an akwa ibomite? |
I don't think job postings for one profession necessarily implies discrimination. For one, it should hint you as to the direction Nigeria is taking. In today's global economy, you should do whatever it is that willl guarantee you employment (as in whatever is en vogue at the time), and not necessarily what you love. In the US, for example, I tell pple to stick with medicine, pharmacy, business, nursing or law degrees. Medical fields cos pple r living longer here, law cos it is a litigous (sic?) society and business, cos that has been around for ages. In Nigeria, esp from my posts on NL, I can see that IT is booming at the rate it boomed in the US in the 1990s. My advice to you is to get on the bandwagon, if you can. If you can't, there is always self-employment to think of. Sure, capital may be a hindrance. Just start small and I can tell you from experience, that the sky will be the limit ![]() I hope this helps, |
Another blatant and ignorant example of stereotypism. I could likewise say that since, when I turn on the TV in the US, most of the news involves one american (mostly black) killing someone, that every american person walks around with a gun with the intent to kill ![]() If you should encounter such pple again, send them my way. I especially know how to deal with such pple. I basically soak them, wash them, bleach them, dry them and iron them. In the end, the next time they encounter any Nigerian, they stop whatever they do and bow to them. LOL |
spike, here in the US, from a friend who works there, they sell 10% below what competitors are offering. They also pay below standards and their health insurance and other benefits suck. Also, they will fire you for even the slightest mistake. They won't mention this publicly of course, but those are some of the dirty tricks they play in order to keep prices low. To answer the naija one: Say garri is 3 cups for N10 (from my last visit in 2003/4), they may decide to sell theirs at 4 cups for N10. Not only that, they will buy all the land they can find and produce the cassava/garri themselves, so that it remains in-house and thus keeps overhead low. Don't even be surprised if you find out that they import the thing from china sef. Walmart good o, but trust me, there is a "high price" to their low price strategy. |
i will reserve judgment on it being good for NigeriaYeah, if I know Nigerians in Nigeria well, the minute it opens, they will all flock there in droves. Not only that, if a Nigerian opens something similar, they will look past it as if it has AIDS In the end, local business will suffer. I watched a documentary on china's walmart. You won't believe it, they sell everything including pig tongue. I can just see it now - pple, in order to look good, will go to his friend and say, "Nna (scratching the back of his head), I just dey return from walmart o. I go buy small periwinkle" LOL We go c sha, |
Yeah Zahy, Kind of reminds me of that dude who opened a movie theater in lagos. He purpotedly runs 7 stand-by generators at a time. I wonder how he makes money. Could anyone help answer this (in terms of price per ticket, etc)? Thanks, |
I just wanted to add: I am currently taking a flash class (which is y I am not online right now ) and the book we are using is pretty good. So I asked the instructor (aka lecturer) what book she would recommend for logos, and in particular web logos. She recommended this one:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0735710791/qid=1147890950/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/102-6271491-8774544?s=books&v=glance&n=283155 So, if you have access to amazon, or someone who does, get the book. The instructor is pretty good and so I doubt she would give me bad advice on what book to get. Just thought I would let you all know ![]() |
hmmm vichel ![]() First off, I, not "they" started this thread, so I think I know what my question was. I don't think I am on any kind of medication to be talking crap, or at least I don't think I am ![]() Back to the matter at hand: I asked if walmart was building in naija. Someone said it was a north american thing, to which I said not so, as they hv stores in china. The dude replied acknowledging his mistake. So far, so good, as far as mature conversations go. Please scroll up, read all the posts and then reply, acknowledging your mistake. Let's keep the mature conversation going. Sorry if I confused you in any way. The ball is now officially in your court |
Not really o - they are in too: china: http://www.wal-martchina.com/english/walmart/wminchina.htm |
and of course my personal best, based on what i consider a very creative name: Hunger Busters LOL |
well then Reverend, With your permission, I would like to make my official logo on my profile's page. Thanks in advance ![]() |
So, I was gisting with a fellow naija buddy of mine and he mentioned that walmart was currently building a store in Nigeria. I was like Can anyone confirm that this is true? If true, I wonder, considering things like inadquate light and water supply, how they will be able to live up to their motto of "always (low prices)". Anyway, can someone please confirm this for me? I'd appreciate it ![]() |
