I sabi, It was just a thought ![]() Also don't forget those who would stay from dusk till dawn. After all there is no time limit right? ![]() Check this out though: I once day-dreamed that if I did set one up, I would let you come in and do anything you want on day one, but if you overdo it, I would take-style and ask you to pose for a photograph. Then I post the photograph on the wall and have security be on the lookout for the culprit who would then be limited to one plate from that point on LOL I know, sounds crazy, but I am known to think weird like that ![]() |
I am sure many of you have thought about setting up a buffet business in Nigeria and have come to the conclusion that it won't work. Well, I am one of such. However, after reading this article, I think it will succeed after all: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/buffet_debacle <<corrected>> Check it out and let me know your thoughts. |
diyobdw, of course, you can worship God on any other day, but remember, in Acts 20, the christians of old got together on the first day of the week, which for us in this present day and time is Sunday. Therefore, we should set aside the entire day to be with our brethren. Sure, you can worship on your own, but also remember the church is not the building but the pple. You go to church to fellowship. Also, remember Matthew 18:20. Again, there are those who as a matter of necessity, have to work on a sunday. I am sure God understands. On the other hand, there are those who have no excuse not to worship on Sunday and instead choose to either work or lay idle. Just my 2 cents, not a flame ![]() |
bolex, I am humbled, that at 33, I am referred to as an e-father ![]() Having said that, first and foremost, the sabbath is the 7th day, which would make it Saturday. As for working on sunday, I look at it this way: Even if you don't work, you (not personally) become a hypocrite in the sense that if you buy something that day, you are encouraging someone else not to go worship, for instance. I do know pple here though who refuse to work on sunday. If no one worked on sunday, the world's economy would come to a stand-still for one. In the end, it's all about the $$. Referring to Matthew 12, even though he was referring to the sabbath, we can extrapolate that, I think, to sundays. If you had to pay your rent on monday, yet didn't have enough and your boss offered you some overtime on sunday, wouldn't you go? Growing up in calabar, I remember that if my mom didn't go to the market by saturday night, then we wouldn't have anything to eat on sunday. I believe that is no longer the case in naija. In the end, again, it's all about the pepper. Now, there are those who genuinely have to work on any given day, especially hourly workers. If you miss even 30 minutes, that could be the difference b/w living in comfort of sleeping on the cold streets of the western world. So to summarize, ideally, should you work? No. But when condition come make crayfish bend, will you leave, as Jesus said in the bible, your sheep trapped in the pit? I don't think so. Besides, most churches have multiple services and you can always either worship on your own or with others privately, and pray to God to give you the ability to have the time in the future. Bottomline, when you get sucked in by affluenza, you will forget where you came from, if you aren'f firmly rooted in your beliefs. Is that good enough e-advice? ![]() |
New, I hear ya, but I would listen to what Reverend just posted. You can't just force *some* pple to co-exist. Yugoslav's, like the English, are white, but it didn't work for them. Truth is, God has truly been with us, we should have been worse, in my opinion, than Darfur by now. As the Reverend said, give pple the basics of life and trust me, no one will care anymore. In my opinion, those who have use tribalism to inspire division amongst the have nots, while skimming off the benefits. |
It is ironic. However, curiosity killed the cat. So if you were curious enough to check out the post, hopefully others will too ![]() prodgalson, Thanks for the accolades. May God bless you too I wanted to stress open source for those pple who may say they don't have the finances to purchase a proprietary product. |
New, I never said that bringing together different tribes is or should be a barrier to development. So let us just nip that misquote right in the bud ![]() I said (and meant) that it is tough to get various pples to agree on one thing. It may have worked for the English (I bet you had to dig deep for that one ), but as they say, what is good for the goose may not be always good for the gander. The English are white, we are black; the English live in europe, we in Africa. *Generally speaking (I know I will get flamed for this )*, whites believe in bettering themselves, as Nigerians we let envy and jealousy get to us and hamper the efforts of the successful via "air forces".In the end, could what happened in England work in Nigeria? Sure. But as we know, Nigeria has a history of defying every natural law known to man. Doubt me? All you need do is go to motor park on christmas eve. With numerous taxis at the park, someone just wakes up from his ogogoro-inspired sleep and jacks up the cost of transportation 300% lol |
brushparke, Too bad that now that you have let the cat out of the bag concerning your biz idea. If you don't act fast enough, someone else will profit off of it Note to self: Keep my thoughts to myself ![]() |
With all due respect to the opinion of some posters: I don't think we should forget about the past. As they say, those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. It is imperative that we remember it, so that we can analyze it, learn from it and hopefully not repeat mistakes of the past. Having said that, I don't think it was good for Africa, unless you call grouping together multiple nations together under one geographical border, resulting in internal strife ever since. Take Nigeria for example: 200+ tribes (pretty much nations) only held together by God's infinite mercies. Compare that to say, Germany, a true nation of pple speaking one language. Also don't forget the raping of our natural resources, the slavery, etc. Finally, in my opinion, the title of the thread should be re-worded to "Is" and not "was". Why? cos in my opinion, we are still being colonized today. It's just more subtle. okay, I am off my soapbox now. Flame me ![]() |
It could also be one of the following: - He went at first so as to convince the G8 folks of the need for Nigeria to be unburdened of her debt. I believe we just made our last payment. In other words, goal achieved. No need attended further. - They only invited him when they wanted something from him, as in oil. Now that they have achieved their purpose, like an orange, after sucking it dry and eating the pulp, they have tossed him out the window. Just wondering out loud |
As I stated before (if I haven't, then I say it now), a degree is a foundation. You can never lose with one. Having one is not a necessity, but it surely helps, especially in today's global economy. With a degree, you will never lack a job, even if it is OP. For fast jobs like IT, you could get one to make your quick money, but add a degree to that, cos, like happened in America, when that bubble bursts (I was out of a job for 2 yrs during that time), you can always go back to your degree'd job. I hope this helps (and for those who want to use my username as a tag line, feel free ) |
brushparke, Think positive buddy, think positive. All you have to do is figure out how to add value and it will work. I speak from experience ![]() |
Akolawole, I believe there were other nationalities on there, other than brazilians - England, Portuguese, French. Of course the brazilians took the cake, but yep, there were commercials featuring other nationalities ![]() |
OMG!!! The football commercials are killing me o!! I mean hair is literally standing on my arms, flying in the air with each move, then slowly floating back to my skin and falling in place World cup go worry o!! Too bad we won't be there ![]() http://nikefootball.nike.com/nikefootball/siteshell/index.jsp#,us,0;jogatv,,0,0,0 Enjoy!! |
daviddylan, all he needs to do is hook up with one via YIM or AIM or MSN or google. Next thing you know, she is maxing out her credit card to have her you know what beaten to death by a nigerian mandingo. LOL |
I just got this at nigeriaworld: http://odili.net/news/source/2006/apr/30/804.html After reading, I didn't know whether to take this as a complement (i am not ibo by the way) or an insult, whether to say "na true o" or "how dare he?". It's like a stereotype gone wrong. Your thoughts?? |
Hmmm, It seems there are a lot more of them on nairaland than I suspected ![]() |
Folks, I am available for hire. I am not in naija, but of course could work remotely. Any takers? Send email to itoro@bellsouth.net and I will respond with a resume/CV Thanks, |
Same here, I am one of those "blah" guys with a computer science degree ![]() Anyway, I am working with coders here who have degrees in sociology and history. My point being that, in general, a degree just means you have the ability to learn just about anything. Having just a certification would narrow you down to one particular field. In other words, if I lose my IT job today, chances are that I could probably go work in another field requiring a degree of some sort. I do doubt that that same company would stress something to the effect of "MCSD certification is a must" ![]() Finally, in today's world, in my opinion anyway, those IT certifications are nothing but paper. I know a DBA with 20 years experience who failed the MSDBA exams twice. All you have to do is cram for those things and you hv made it. Of course, you pray that when you get to the real world, you aren't made to prove your mettle. Again, I speak from what I have seen in the industry to-date. I hope this helps |
just curious, Not that there's anything wrong with that, but, are u one? ![]() |
Old Glory, I could be totally 100% on this, but from Brushe's remarks, I think his main focus would be the nigerians in the diaspora. 99 cents a song may not sound too bad for a good oldie like Sunny Okosun, Victor Uwaifo, Christy Essien or Blackie, from the american perspective. However, consider that the same song would cost N140 per download in naija is another tory entirely ![]() Number finally , even with bootleggers in naija, they don't offer, say, a CD with the exact kind of mix that you would desire. That is why, over here in the US, some pple don't mind doling out $25 for a special mix of songs, even though the average price of a CD is about $15.Regardless, it's all in how sweet your talk is. I mean, there are pple who could sell sun shades to a blind man lol |
(chuckles) Acceptance testing is basically a test procedure done to make sure a site satisfies what it was built to do. It also applies to regular applications, by the way. So, for example, when I come to nairaland and click on a topic, I expect to go to that topic. If I don't register, I shouldn't see certain buttons, etc. I posted this because I have noticed that many naija sites don't seem to be tested at all - broken links, broken images, server errors, etc. Such things, if caught up front, would never make it out to the public view. |

I don't know if Acceptance testing web apps is a big deal in naija. It is where I am. Anyways, I wanted to share a pretty cool tool we have been using at work. It's called Selenium. It's open source and even better, it was developed by the folks at www.thoughtworks.com . If you know anything about thoughtworks, then you know those guys don't joke ![]() http://www.openqa.org/selenium/ Enjoy!! |
bolex, They do have healthy food. The thing is that with all the add-ins (salad dressing, croutons, etc), such healthy foods become even unhealthier than the fatty foods. I believe there was a finding some time last year that said that a McDs salad contained more cholesterol and/or fat than a double Mac |
Neal Boortz Sean Hannity Michael Savage Yeah, go ahead, sue me ![]() |
I would start by contacting PMAN or whatever association in Nigeria that is responsible for enforcing copyright laws. Like Kazaa et all, you may have to enter a deal with them where you pay them some amount per download. I am sure they will provide you with financial details. As for the idea, pretty brilliant. I would like to download certain naija music, rather than just listen to them on say, radiopalmwine.com |
Other than a paid service or google maps, I don't know if you have any other choice. If anyone else does, let us know please. Thanks, |
Nwoke, Here, here, |
