LOL, Y the alligator now? Wetin concern bird with toothbrush? LOL - nice logo. How much e go cost? ![]() |
I think I would prefer a merge b/w that of ontop and reverend: ontop's is not smooth, reverend's I like, but I don't c anything related to writing. That notwithstanding, aren't we digressing from the original intent of this post? Oh well, what do I know? ![]() |
In my opinion: No search on google or reading some book will teach you the art of graphics drawing. You definitely need hands-on experience in addition to talent. I mean, any SS2 student (is that what you guys still call them? ) can come up with a logo, but if it fails to capture the eye, then the mission is not accomplished. That is why you will never find any book (even the dummy series) that says something to the effect "how to create a logo". So, read the books, but make sure you have some graphics (a lot have been mentioned here) software handy so you can see what you have read come to life. I hope this helps. |
Orange groove, Mfana Ibaha to mention but a few. In the latter, she was exceptional in acting the film in 100% Ibibio (not a drop of english, though she did speak with a slight accent). I think she is with the Annex Film click (of power brokers fame) Also, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don't find her that attractive. Don't get me wrong, she is pretty and she is "doable", but there are other actresses that would tickle my fancy (but I digress ).I read somewhere that she is dating some ibo guy who is based overseas who comes in once a month to visit her. It was I think on sun news online, where she said, given her situation cheating is tempting but that she doesn't. Of course, given the fact that our actors/actresses are going the hollywood route, I wouldn't be surprised if I learnt she has ended that relationship and started a new one. |
As someone noted here previously, I was one of those who was brought up in the days of "Go to school (don't even bother learning a sport, u can do that after you graduate. The money you could make stands nothing against a college degree, even if it is in Fine Art ), get a govt job, get married, have kids, retire on govt pension". I must confess that I am a little scarred as a result, but was able to break out of the mold, fortunately. One thing I have noticed about nigerians, *in general*, is that rather than pulling resources together to do something big, we rather want to do it OYO, often not even getting the children involved. Thus biz is of a small scale and when the founder dies, the biz dies with it. I can list several businesses in the akwa ibom area (inyang ette, etc) that have fallen victim to this. I just thought I should bring this up as well. It, in my opinion, is a mental disorder (cd be cultural as well, who know?) that can be corrected, fortunately. ![]() |
1. What are your experiences with lists? > I use it a lot for making my menus 2. Where do you think lists would be inappropriate? > Basically, anywhere common sense would dictate that something doesn't need to be listed 3. Have you had any problems using lists and CSS? > Mostly, I *always* seem to forget to set the list-type (depending on the layout of the menu), and display property. I don't know why, but I always get bitten by this bug ![]() 4. Have lists made your work easier? > Yes it has - it has made me think out how I intend to break down a site before I start coding. If I have too many lists, then I know for sure that I need to start thinking of sub-menus, or totally remove a list item altogether. |
I am in favor of all those who have said that it isn't govt's part to create jobs, but create the environment conducive for job creation by individuals. Letz not forget one more thing - the power of the vote. Suuure, pple will want to shoot me for being so naive as to believe that we could ever have a free and fair election, but come on folks, it is totally possible. Again, we as individuals need to stop doing things that encourage fraud like taking bribes, for instance. Paraphrasing the US declaration of independence - when the pple in government do not do what they are supposed to do, it is the duty of its citizens to replace them with pple who will. |
Mes amis webmasters: If you are like me, you probably start coding, brainstorming style, and swear that when you are done, you will go back to clean up your code. Of course, this seldom happens ![]() I found a pretty cool CSS tidy tool that will take your fluffed code and reduce it into a single line that is more pleasant to the eye: http://www.cleancss.com/index.php Enjoy!! |
Mozilla may be quick to implement, thanks to its extensions, but will IE? Already, even with all IE7 boasts of in terms of standards, I believe they even confessed to not following it in its entirety. Hopefully at some point though, they will all be on the same page. At least it is better than it was in the late 90s when I had to sniff for each version of each browser on each OS, via javascript ![]() |

This just in: Emails with pictures of Osama Bin-Laden hanged are being sent and the moment you open these emails your computer will crash and you will not be able to fix it! This e-mail is being distributed through countries around the globe, but mainly in the US and Israel . Don't be inconsiderate; send this warning to whomever you know. If you get an email along the lines of "Osama Bin Laden Captured" or "Osama Hanged" don't open the attachment. =========== As always, you may choose to take this with a grain of salt. To be forewarned is to be forarmed though. So beware!! |
I say, if it isn't something that is part and parcel of our culture, whatever it may be, if it goes against the grain, then don't do it. That to me also includes hair braiding by men, etc. I ask a question that I asked on another post loooong time ago - y do we seem, *generally speaking*, to copy those aspects of another's culture that is either controversial or plain negative? Something to chew on, and perhaps get you spinning on your eye brows ![]() |
1) Abstraction 2) Easy to read 3) Encapsulation 4) Easy to maintain 5) Lightweight - Doesn't consume memory, be it on user or programmer side of things 6) One that has been thoroughly tested before hand-over |
Sure IAH, I will scratch your back if you scratch mine ![]() |
Oh yeah, the company I work for, www.autotrader.com, gets 10 milllion unique hits a month. Now, thatz impressive!! ![]() |
Splendid Idea, I will take that into consideration. To all: If you would rather attend an online session, send me an email to itoro@bellsouth.net stating so. Again, I will only proceed if I get a good response from pple out there. Thanks, |
To Whom it may Concern: I am thinking of going to naija to conduct a web seminar. If you, or someone you know, think(s) you/they would like to participate, please let me know via my email: itoro@bellsouth.net . Send me your response and location. Right now, I am just doing logistics, nothing else. If I get the response I expect, then it will be a done deal. Here are the details: Time: 8am - 5pm Location: Lagos or Abuja or Port-Harcourt Venue: To Be Determined (TBD) Amount: TBD Duration: at least 6 days (Mon - Saturday) Topics covered: HTML (2 days), JavaScript (1 day), CSS (1 day), Standards/Accessibility/SEO (2 days) You may have noticed that this is just on front-end technologies. This is on purpose. You could be the best, say, PHP or Java guru in the world, but if a user doesn't find your site appealing, they won't visit over and over again. There are people who visit a site just because it is easy to use and is lightweight. Of course, as we may know, more hits to a site = more ad revenue . Based on response, I could be back for a back-end technology seminar in the near future.I look forward to hearing from you. |
probably both. I know it shows web traffic for sure. Might be what you entered in the textfield. Check this out: http://www.google.com/trends?q=autotrader.com%2C+cars.com%2C+vehix.com&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all |
http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/grids/ For those who have been scratching their gorimakpa trying to battle with CSS , I just thought I should share this with you. This launched yesterday. The coolest feature I liked is how to map font size in pixels to the corresponding, more fluid %s. The thing to note is that these have been tested, so again, in the spirit of DRY and KISS (read previous posts of mine for the meanings, if you don't know them by now ), at least take a look at these and modify if necessary. In the end, you could be saving yourself a lot of time, time you could use to go load up on some Gordon Spark by the beach LOLEnjoy!! |
lagerwhenindoubt LOL, It seems you were bent, like the proverbial professor, on finding a reason not to give me 100% LOL In university, one of my professors said that by the time we finished his class, he wanted us to be "paranoid dellusional, anal retentive programmers". I thought of course he was joking, but that is what I am. When you couple that with the fact that I have been critiquing others' sites here, I figure why not practice what I preach? ![]() Hopefully with this job under my belt, I would have put one foot in the naija web dev door. I need to help out over there - the place is a virtual virgin, as far as putting out pages that conform to standards. Now that we are good at putting up pages, we need to focus on putting up efficient pages - well architected, accessible, standards conforming, and lightweight. I look forward to working with my brothers across the pond ![]() I will ignore the warnings, at least for now, as those are more semantics, than anything else. Once I am done with the actual site, I may go back to those. Once again, thanks for your reviews. Much appreciated. |
For those who work on *heavy traffic* sites, here is a link that shows you your traffic trends. The cool thing is that you can check yours against that of your competitors: http://www.google.com/trends |
What will be the product of a mate b/w man and a chimp?Champ LOL ![]() |
Xenia, Next is O |
From a web designer's perspective: I assume the site will be thoroughly tested at some point - some of the links weren't working (I would tell you which ones but I would rather let you do a full testing of the site and find out for yourself ), and the graphics definitely need re-working. Finally, just a pet peeve of mine, but since this is a naija site, why not use naija pple on it? I know for sure that those faces are not Nigerian faces LOL.I hope this helps, |
LOL, I actually liked your constructive criticism Zahy ![]() It seems that for the most part, you and prodgalson are on the same page. He gave me his suggestions earlier and even mocked up the corrections for me. I will be implementing those friday and should have it done by 5p. As for the email address, I was thinking the same thing. I have decided to yank that out and in its place, link my name to my online resume. Thanks for the pointers. They have been duly noted and shall definitely be implemented. |
My latest naija project is almost done. Please review the home page (I haven't linked it yet, pending client approval). Check out: http://www.eburutu.org/test.html and tell me what you think. By the way, you may criticize any part of the page other than the nav section: It is 100% CSS - no images whatsoever LOL I look forward to your comments/suggestions. Thanks |
You will definitely need hands-on experience via a seminar or class of some sort. Even if you RTFM (I hate this acronym, but I digress ), graphics isn't such that you can capture art in words. It has to be learned, it has to be experienced hands-on.I know a guy who will be coming there for a seminar some time in the year. Perhaps you could attend the seminar and get to learn from him. I am sending him a link to this post so he is aware that you and perhaps others will need this type of training. I hope this helps |
He should be lucky he isn't in a country that enforces its child support laws. He would definitely be in the sewer then ![]() I guess women aren't exactly his African Queen after all. Sometimes, you reall have to weigh a man by what he says (or in this case, sings ). |
I would have user-initiated pop-ups (or any other form of advertisement, again, as long as it is user-initiated). |
Here's a good resource for this, and other issues you may have: http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_forms.asp |
