With a good marketing strategy (#1 being a well-designed website with paypal/secure credit application features ), there is a market for anything. I would recommend you look at creating a Search Engine Optimized website and advertising on various message boards that have to do with your craft. Finally, you need to find out how much UPS et al charge for freight from where u r to various destinations. That way, you can factor that into your costs as "Shipping and Handling". The global economy is all about websites. It is the only way, in my opinion, that you can reach billions of potential customers without actually seeing such people. So for example, I am in the US yet I am designing websites for people in Nigeria, people I have never and probably will never meet in my lifetime. I hope this helps. |
Dauda, Speaking for myself, I send such photos to oyibo and other nationals who work with me on a daily basis ![]() |
Something about the blue text font on a grey background rubs me the wrong way. Other than that, check out what I have said about other reviews, see if your site meets what has been discussed ad nauseum and get back to me if you have any particular questions ![]() Enjoy!! |
my 2 (not 50) cents ![]() Paris is doing it for publicity 50 is doing it to "experience" high class kitten - letz face it, this girl belongs to a dynasty!! She has $300million to her name in inheritance. Who wdnt want to hit that (even if it isn't as good as they think it will be)? I can c 50 cents 5 or so years from now "damn! I knacked (using a nicer word ) a hilton" LOL |
the only way to know, in my opinion, is by you applying to the school(s) you have in mind and letting them review your transcript. Better than trying to crack your brain coming up with mathematical formulae that may or may not work. I hope this helps |
Thanks guys, Once again, I troway salute to all of una o! this is the very reason I joined NL in the first place ![]() Pls, this shdnt stop more answers from coming in. The more the merrier and better and in the end, the world becomes a happier place ![]() |

Farriel, Maybe its just me, but is it possible to make that spinning thingie on ur "interview of the week" to loop just once? Once I got on the site, my eyes immediately went there and I suddenly felt as if I was being hypnotized, seriously. Youngies, In addition to what Farriel has said, I will say stuff that I haven't said in other reviews: 1) remove the polls section in the center column and put it to the right, thus expanding main content 2) Re-examine your left nav. When I click on it, it expands weirdly and when I click on another, there's a huge gap left. Bad, very bad 3) I wouldn't have everything load on the same page. Get rid of the frames. Besides, frames aren't that usable or SEO-friendly. Also, users tend to have problems with printing 4) Change your font style 5) On the search form, use an actual button and make the "search this site" string disappear when the user clicks in the area. There should be some javascript on google that can help you with that. I still strongly recommend that you look at past reviews. I don't know about the part of me being a "pro". One thing I do know is that in order to succeed in anything in life, you have to put in the time and effort. In this case, that involves using Nairaland's search feature. Won't cost you any money, just a little bit of time ![]() I hope this helps. |
First off, I changed "Micro" to "macro" in my post heading as I was starting to get annoyed by the mispelling ![]() Tollietomz: I would say it depends on where you are located as well as what the site is meant for. Where you are located: I have noticed that on most naija sites, there's flash. It's almost as if someone passed a decree punishable by death squad for sites without flash. Of course there are sites in the US with flash, but use depends on what the site is meant for. What the site is meant for: For lack of a better heading , to me it all comes down to what the site is for. So if you are dealing with a site that must meet accessibility standards (mostly government sites), the chances of you using flash, not to mention javascript, are pretty slim. If on the other hand, the site has to do with a musician or its a game site, flash will more likely be used. Finally, it depends on functionality. So, you are more probably likely to see a photo gallery done in flash than say, functionality that involves database retrieval. There are certainly opponents and proponents of flash. Opponents tend to talk about flash not being accessible and SEO-friendly (proponents including some on this forum will dispel that immediately) as well as depending on how it is implemented, it could be distracting to the user and very heavy, thus affecting download times. Proponents on the other hand harp about it being rich and close to the desktop experience.I hope this answers your question. If not, let me know ![]() |
youngies, I would definitely listen to Kazey - the site could surely use some help. There is rich talent right here on Nairaland. Perhaps you should post a request for proposal on here? ![]() If the site is truly the Nigerian eGovt Portal, I personally think it deserves to look better than the way it does now. As always, I have posted a lot of comments you could adhere to (do a search for "review this site" or variations of that string) and see what I and others have to say. I don't want to bore anyone or myself by typing the same stuff over and over. I hope this helps |
Dauda (the knacker), Hmmm, for some odd reason, your username reminds me of a popular magazine from back in the day ![]() |
Kambo, In my opinion, I don't think you need a degree in computer science to get into IT per se. If you have the necessary resources (hardware, books, etc), nothing stops you from picking it up on your own. Though I am not in Nigeria currently, I think what I am about to say could apply anywhere - I am presently working with an excellent programmer who has a degree in history. Very far from a science degree, if you ask me. Also, there are tonnes of certification programs out there you could sign up for. So, don't let your current degree hinder you. A degree to me anyway is only a demonstration that you have the ability to learn. There are pple I know and have heard of who graduated with highest honors yet couldn't even write a single line of code in the real world. Y? could be cos they crammed the stuff, could be cos they aren't cut out for the working environment but rather an educational institution where they can do their research. If as you said, you got what you did cos you weren't willing to "go with the flow" and you know within yourself that you have the brains to learn the stuff, go for it!! Good luck in advance!! |
- The hospitality - *Generally speaking*, the extended family - there is always someone out there related to you willing to help in times of need - The mere fact that Nigeria, despite its shortcomings, has witnessed 2 successive elections with a coup, is in and of itself positive too. |
To me, it would come down to cost. For the most part, your degree will be accepted by the institution in question, though they may want you to take a few classes here and there to satisfy something that isn't covered in Nigeria. Besides you would be at an advantage, in my opinion, as you would have obtained an education from two completely different societies which to me would set you apart from the other applicants. So, again, it comes down to cost. I have 20 years to go on the loans I took out I tell you, paying those loans is equivalent to slavery and I wouldn't wish it on my enemy, let alone my friend(s) LOL |
I am not an economics expert, not to talk of one on Nigerian affairs, but I think the above can be summarized under, but not limited to, the following bullet points:
[li]Too much govt red tape[/li] [li]Lack of transparency on the part of the government[/li] [li]Lack of accountability on the part of some employees[/li] [li]Lack of trust which leads to too many solo outfits as opposed to rounding up resources to have one big company[/li] [li]Lack of government policies conducive to survival of such businesses[/li] [li]*In some cases*, with a country where majority work for the govt so as to qualify for benefits in their old age, there is sort of a resistance to even think of starting up a business - too risky[/li] [li]Various Unions (most notorious are the commodity unions, like periwinkle and waterleaf unions, etc, which work together such that anyone daring to set off competition is quenched. Prices are then artificially fixed and tend to rise as salaries rise and holidays approach[/li]
These are just a few things I had in mind. I won't bore you with anymore. Besides I could totally out of my mind on some of them ![]() |
I have a dream too Kimba ![]() That one day, I will be able to go in and out of Murtala Muhammad Airport without even the dust in the air asking me for "small something" ![]() |
Constantin, I will definitely visit often and definitely will share photos of any naija city I go to. Thanks once again. and to think you accused me of being "negative as usual" on another thread. ![]() Na wa o. I guess you can't always win LOL |
I would personally say that my remarks were more motivating than negative ![]() I mean, when in secondary school, if say, you came in 33rd/40 one term and you suddenly moved up to 30th, as a parent, am I to congratulate you for improving (which I did in this case)? Sure. But should that be enough? No. Now that 32nd and 31st have been conquered, I would push my child to start aiming at the top 5 or so. On the contrary to your last post, I would think that, in my opinion, being happy about beating Chile/NZ would make certain people feel satisfied at where they are without wanting to move forward. In Nigeria, I would call it the "how we go do? E been worse pass this before o" syndrome. I experience it everytime I go home. For example, I ask y a certain road is rotting away. Typical response "nna, make u leave us o. this road been bad pass this before. E better small now". "better small" is not good enough in today's globalistic world. We have to shoot for the stars. Thatz all am saying. Just saying indirectly that Nigeria is condemned to poverty for the next 500 years or so is not an answer to meShow me where I made the exact same statement I quoted from you above please. I will be pulling up a chair and holding my breath on this one ![]() Sorry if you misunderstood my comments for what they really meant. |
Bleep THE BEAST!Uche1, kind of curious y having made such a passionate, compelling and in my opinion christian-like statement above, you would end it with such choice of words LOLAnywayz, this kind of reminds me of that time, I think in the early 90s, when some Korean group gave the exact date and time (una remember dat one?) the world was supposed to end. I was in Unical that time. In fact, we had an exam that day. The prof said he purposely set it on that date to see who would stay back. Needless to say, we all showed up, though the hall was very tense (the world was supposed to end at the very moment our exam ended). As uche1 and others have said above, read the bible fervently and closely. Not even Jesus knows when that day is. All we can do is watch and pray that when it comes "like a thief at night", we have lived our lives up to that point to warrant an automatic green card to heaven ![]() |
Girl Forgets Everything Done and Catches new Boy Again!!!!!!!Kimba, I saw this in my inbox from someone yesterday and I will pose the same question posed to her (and for which she had no response): Wouldn't the above statement be wrong given you asked what GFEDCBA stands for and not GFEACNBA? Not trying to rock your boat, just wondering ![]() |
Constantin, though remarkable, I personally don't c the big deal in overtaking New Zealand and/or Chile. Now, if you are talking, say, India/China/Japan/Countries in Europe/US, then that would tickle my fancy. Again, it is good that we are moving up the ladder so to speak. However, assuming the FG and you are thinking along the same lines, I wouldn't make those 2 aforementioned countries our benchmark. ![]() |
Yes sir diddy, and guess what the title of the book is: http://premierecollectibles.us/product.cfm?id=34&source=coulter |
It's the American way baby!! ![]() At the end of the day, it boils down to the dead presidents and whatever you can do (legally) to make as much as you can such that you can enjoy it b4 you are too old to do so. If pple wanna pay him to do it and they have the money, go for it!! I thnk I heard there is a restaurant where pple are actually insulted by the waiting staff, and itz always sold out!! |
I believe the bible clearly states what is to precede the mark of the beast. So far, I don't recall any famous person/leader being fatally wounded and suddenly ressurcted, for one. I see no leader/person claiming to have the solution to world peace for another. My 2 cents? Ploy by oyibo to make money. In fact, there is someone here in the states who is releasing a book on that date. Her reason? "The devil made me do it". |
Yep Ashiwaju, I guess that is kind of my point. Yahoo!, it can be argued is synonymous with Coke in Naija. In other words, when I am there and think of getting my favorite "mineral", Coke is what is on my mind. I remember when I told my cousins there that I couldn't get on YIM cos of company restrictions and that they should get AOL accounts. They were all like If the portal wars were being fought out in Nigeria, even with google's dominance worldwide, yahoo would definitely, in my opinion, win in Nigeria and I dare say Africa as a whole. I bet a lot of pplez anal hairs are rising in discomfort at that statement ![]() |
How much does it cost, on average, do have a TV and Radio Station run an advertisement, respectively? Also, if I were to choose to use a celebrity (say Nkem Owoh), on average again, how much extra would that cost? Thanks, |
I think I do, but then again some have said of me that I am not exactly what you would call the sharpest razor in the toolbox either ![]() |
Nah Kazey, Before the Internet took any shape or from, there was nothing but Yahoo! lurking the earth, nothing but Yahoo! (sorry for the exclamation mark, but am just adhering to their Trademark policy ) |
Timmy, I believe its called addiction ![]() and if you have been notified of my reply, I'd say you are addicted too LOL Remember, the first step for an addict is admitting he/she has a problem ![]() |
Nna, Thanks o! Abuja is bloody nice ![]() I especially like the stadium photo - world class for sure. Armed with these photos and what I see in nollywood movies, guess where one of my destinations will surely be during my next trip to the motherland? ![]() Thanks once again |
