Hmmm, In essence you're thinking of open source software whereas I am thinking of hiring people over there that I could outsource business to. Yours is socialist, mine is capitalist ![]() I don't know if people on Nairaland would be up to open source collaboration. I am pretty sure though they would be down with outsourcing work to them. Anyone else have anything to say (other than "hello guys" ? ![]() |
I think the "I love you mummy" phrase depends on where you are. In the US, where "single mother" seems like the phrase du jour, it is not uncommon for kids to make reference to their mothers. tis a pity, cos it comes across as though the single motherhood thing is justified and is no big deal. oh well |
Kai!! If you hadn't said these were Indian photos and/or I didn't see the indians in the pictures, I would have sworn it was Nigeria. India don go far o! The day Naija look even half of this, make I naked baf for bafroom LOL |
Weeell, I know I am not in Nigeria but I would tend to think that if one can come up with a good way to implement Ecommerce there, the person concerned will definitely hit the jackpot. As they say, humans have only utilized 10% of their brainpower. What is wrong in a Nigerian, in Nigeria, coming up with something to be talked about for a thousand years. Sure, might sound easier said than done, but hey, somebody's got to do it ![]() |
Folks, In general, you can always visit www.download.com for a lot of free software. Some have expiration dates, others don't. I visit here quite often ![]() Just thought I should chime in. |
largerwhenindoubt, One thing Zahymaka forgot to mention is that in order for the CSS to work (assuming you haven't figured it out yet), you will need to: 1) Re-arrange portions of your page (header, footer, content, etc) into logical blocks 2) If you aren't using 100% CSS, then surround chunks of your tables in DIVs 3) In your print stylesheet, set the display property of each of those DIVs to "none". If you visit the last site I coded www.southsouthforum.org, do a print preview. You will notice that I only have the main content on the printed version. Save off my printable stylesheet for formatting if need be. Like Zahymaka, I am happy that we can all be of service to each other. It does take a web development family to raise a fellow web developer ![]() |
I personally think it is part sarcasm and part truth. Sarcasm - As you said, despite his record, he isn't given the respect he thinks he is due. *Part* Truth - Despite the talent pool in terms of players, all he could claim this season is the Prem Title. So in this case, i think he is justing speaking out of frustration. He will b back though. I bet if he thinks of quitting, Abramovich will make him an offer he can't refuse ![]() |
here's my 2 cents. By the way, I would call what I am about to say constructive criticism, as opposed to flaming ![]() Rollovers (Both) - Try and apply text and not images Links (BGL) - On the left nav bar, make the links such that when a user hovers, they know it is a link and will go somewhere (underline, color change, etc) Centre Image (BGL) - at 114Kb, I would say it is too large. Consider optimizing it. Photoshop does a pretty good job with that. Printer Friendly Version (BGL) - If you use CSS, you can implement a printer stylesheet. That way, you don't have to maintain duplicate code per page coded => Better maintainability Rollovers (Afrinvest) - Some menus have a submenu, which if I were to remove my mouse, still stays. Consider using the javascript timeout function so that a few milliseconds after I remove my mouse, it disappears. If you are concerned with SEO, remove the frame from the main page of BGL. That's all I have. Design-wise, kudos ![]() |
I have yet another acronym for you: KISS - Keep It Smart and Simple. Note to Zahymaka: If you must respond to this, keep it +vely constructive and less "antagonistic" ![]() |
phantomcat, No question should be considered stupid. In my opinion, the only stupid question is one that is never asked. Nwoke (abi Seun? ) answered correctly. The concept is called intra-linking. Am sure you have already implemented this, but just wanted you to know ![]() |
Again, These are patterns that they recommend you follow and use, not a decree, punishable by death squad ![]() In the end, there are many ways to skin a cat, |
Weell, It depends. In the real world, we are advised to live by 2, similar concepts - DRY and DITY: Don't Repeat Yourself and Don't Re-invent The Wheel, respectively. So while coming up with you own designs is cool, if someone else already took the time to do it, why bother doing yours. Again, as I said it depends. Honestly though, I haven't written anything orginal in about at least 1 year ![]() |
Every now and then, on nairaland, we encounter a request of the "review this site" type. For the most part, I always give the same pointers. In my personal experience, I have always relied on web resources for my information. One of such places is the yahoo design pattern library - a resource that identifies best-case scenarios for your designs. For those of you who are unaware of the site, check it out at http://developer.yahoo.com/ypatterns/index.php and conform as much as possible to these best practices as opposed to getting pretty much the same answers from the same pple on the same issues ![]() Enjoy!! |
I recently spoke with a family friend who says when he went to visit, he went to NTA to ask to buy the Tales by Moonlight videos. They told him they were all lost If true, as they say then, only in Nigeria |
These might sound a little too old school for some of you, but what the heck, here they go: - The NTA 9 o'clock news jingle: has been playing since I first went to Nigeria in 1980 (and probably longer) - The quiz show that had the jingle "I am proud to be a Nigeriaaaaan" - The Tales by Moonlight Jingle - "Omo, Omo, Super blue Omo, Washes brighter and it shows" LOL - The Canada dry jingle Those are just a few that I recall ![]() |
xkape, You may want to check out my posts regarding what is expected of good websites. In general though, based on what I have seen on all the sites you laid out there, try and follow the following: - Especially to rank high in search engines, get rid of the "intro pages". From a user perspective, if u give them the option to skip, y even bother putting it up there in the first place? - reduce images you use - for navigation, use CSS rollovers You have laid out the pages well. of the 4 sites u mentioned, I like the madeforman one the best. How I wish you could implement Ecommerce on there Keep it up. You'll get there eventually. A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step (though you are well ahead of the game in this respect ) |
As an addendum to my previous post: From living in Nigeria for 13 years and visiting there every other year since 2000, what I have concluded is that *generally speaking*, the pple depend too much on the government. The few who would rather not don't have the resources to move forward with such a massive project. As a result, they wait for the government to spearhead the effort, which in the end is a means for someone to get rich via awoof choppings. Number finally , again *generally speaking*, the average nigerian wants it all to himself. So rather than join resources to have a deep pocket from which to tap the money for investment, one person ends up wanting to own it all. Either that, or when he does join, upon his death, the other partners plot a way to get his descendants out of it.Am I right here or am I just smoking crack out of the wrong pipe? LOL |
Wasn't there are car in the late 80s to early 90s made by some guys in the former Anambra state area? If my memory serves me right, the name was anamco. In the end, it went the way of all government projects unfortunately. Bottomline, we can and should make a car. The problem is those who would probably be better placed in terms of resources have mostly left the country leaving those who have no motivation/resources/encouragement behind due to the economic conditions. Sad, but true, at least in my opinion. |
Ndipe, I take it you are an Akwa Ibomite, in which case I will say "Idioko o". back to biz - I am not in the Health field, so I am afraid I won't have any tips for you As for the depression, I wouldn't know either - my wife had the procedure which is actually very scary to me but fortunately, she didn't suffer any side effects. I have heard horror stories about it causing paralysis (not to scare lioness ).All in all, I say pray to God and everything will be alright - Amen!! |
prodgalson, Thanks for explaining both terms in a way that even I now undetstands better ![]() As for the seminar idea, all I ask is you don't forget me when you start making the millions lol |
Vichel, You might want to start dressing your boots cos in a fortnight you will be eating them LOL |
I don't think that was the point of aflax. It's just a way to do things on the fly with flash, just as ajax does with regular web pages. In the end, there is no "do all" technology. You should strive to use whatever works best in a given situation. |
Given your name here is lioness, I would think that you would be fearless concerning this ![]() Just kidding o!! Anyway, as mamaput (that name sure brings back memories, but I digress) put it, no 2 are the same. My wife had an epidural (may not be the right spelling) administered via her spinal cord. She also had morphine, I think, administered intravenously. She was still in slight pain, but in the end, she delivered. Funny thing is, she wants to do it all over again. So, painful as it is, there's something in that experience that makes some women want to do it over and over |
huh? |
Move over AJAX, Say hello to AFLAX (Asynchronous FLAsh and XML in case you were wondering )note: Requires Flash 8 http://www.aflax.org/demos.htm |
Speaking from experience, a baby is a big time expense in the states , not that I am complaining.Anyway, she has the money, she has the time and probably has the body for it. So, if it is medically sound to be pregnant so quickly, it's all good with me. I just pray that the sorry pple who look up to her don't start getting any ideas and start getting knocked up just because Britney has ![]() |
No doubt, the winner of tonight's "final before the finals" will win the league this season. If barca wins (and I want them to win ), they will manhandle arsenal. If milan wins, they will vow not to show the kind of mercy they showed a fellow english team, Liverpool, last season. All in all, tonight's game is the one to watch. I don's suspect a draw as was the case with yesterday's match. I see a lot of goals. That's my 2 cents |
If you are like me, then there is nothing that gets you psyched up for the Champs league (CL) like the CL anthem. Boy, it's like I am right there on the field with those guys, adrenalin rushing, hair raised, it's like no other feeling in the world (lol, to me, football is life )Anyway, I say all that to say this - if you are interestd, I have a clip of the CL anthem (windows media format). If you are interested, send me an email to itoro@bellsouth.net and I will surely send it to you. I would have posted it here but it's 2.4Mb. Attachments are limited to 200K here. Sorry Let the "finals before the finals (barca v Milan) begin!! |
smartsoft, call me crazy, anal and over-patriotic but when I go to a Nigerian website that features pple on it, I expect to see actual Nigerian pple on there. So unless you have a compelling reason to show oyibo, use photo of Nigerians for starters. Other than that: - the layout, though boilerplate, is okay. - Remove the flash movie OR make it loop just once. The continuous motion tends to make me nauseous, literally. - Add a footer to the page - Remove your phone number from the header section and stick that on your contact us page - All your nav options can pretty much be compressed into a "Services" option. That would allow you to have other options like "about us". etc Just my 2 cents. Any others care to chime in? |
Yes sir, almighty "I know it all" Cactus. Will do right away ![]() |
LOL, I feel ya prince_onx ![]() |
