Cactus, I don't know about J# so I won't comment on that. As for Java, when I think of web programming languages, I think of languages that were developed specifically for the web. Sure, Java via applets, beans, etc for instance, can be used on the web. These to me though are subsets. So is JSP by the way. Of course, when it all boils down to it, they are all based on Java. However, there are things in actual java that cannot be used in a web application. If I am wrong, I stand corrected, but I don't think I am ![]() |
Again, the main topic is being ignored. But to respond: Just because I don't like being asked for money by a total stranger (for all we know, pple on nairaland may not be who they claim to be), doesn't mean I am making fun of anyone because I am better off than they are. I have been on both sides of the railroad track. Let's stop comparing apples to oranges. |
I'm thinking the former. But I threw in the latter just for kicks ![]() |
Sorry, but I thought the question was about web programming languages, which would rule out java, and though I haven't used them, C#. I was thinking more like ASP, JSP, PHP, Perl and the like. Macromedia is and IDE, not a language, unless I have been living under a rock all this time. Based on my experience, ASP is the easiest and JSP the hardest. I haven't used PHP so I have no opinion of it for now. That's my 2 cents ![]() |
word up nike4luv, I think this particular issue is veering from the topic of my post. I was merely trying to point out similarities in chats b/w myself and nigerian nairalanders. To respond though: Pascal, just like nike said, I would beg to differ. Everytime I go there, even pple who I know aren't doing well at all always blame me for looking worn out. They look healthier than me and have people at their beck and call. Didn't CNN say about 3 years ago that Nigerians are the happiest pple on earth? That is oyibo company saying this o.Of course, in general, overseas is better than naija, but I will tell you this: The stress some of us go through here is not worth it at all. |
From the same source, cooking gas is about N700 per cylinder. Again, using N140, that is about $5. That is dirt cheap if you ask me ![]() |
nike4luv, you just explained better my point to hot-angel There is nothing wrong in asking certain questions. Just don't ask as though it were because of a decree punishable by firing squad lolYeah, the number thing actually cracks me up. They leave their number and ask you to call them and then if you don't call, they rake you as though it is your fault. I even had one guy ask me for money for school. When I said no, he said something to the effect that I wasn't a true friend and that there was no need to continue with our "Friendship". I was like, c me c trouble o LOL |
I haven't invested that much time in RSS to answer your question, but I will tell you what I like to do in times like these: Query my good old friend: Google Google knows it all. Most importantly, it keeps you from violating one of my good old mantras: DRY (Don't repeat Yourself aka Don't Reinvent the Wheel).I hope this helps, |
well, well, well. What do u know? I just happened to b chatting with a buddy over there when i saw this post. It is N65 per liter (or as they spell it, litre ). Multiply that by 4 to get a gallon, should be N260 a gallon. Assuming N140 to $1, you are looking at about $1.85 per gallon. So when next they tell you that you are enjoying in obodo oyibo, you tell them that as far as gas prices go at least, there is no comparison lol |
http://www.uefa.com/competitions/WorldCup/news/Kind=1/newsId=416531.html Quite frankly, in my opinion, it's about time. I don't mean to bash the guy, but like Laurent Blanc, he should have retired years ago on a high. In particular, he should have retired after that spectacular goal he scored in the Champions League Finals ![]() |
mj, If you aren't looking for anything in particular, I don't think you can obtain all the help you need in one sitting, let alone via nairaland. I would start by googling an html tutorial, followed by css and javascript. After that, look at jsp, asp and php. PHP seems to be very popular in naija right now (I assume you are there). I woudn't worry too much about graphics for now - you can build a site without graphics. Besides, that is a whole new tutorial in itself. Finally, I'm sure that there is a place where you could go for training, which might be the best option. I hope this helps. |
He deserves it. I am not surprised he hasn't insured his legs with Lloyd's of London by now ![]() |
u wd b surprised. for one u cd b seeking advice on something. u never know |
I bought the VCDs at a video joint along Ndidem Usang Iso Road in Calabar. To tell you the truth, I didn't go there for that. I was just looking to rent. But lo and behold, on the floor, covered by other VCDs, I saw Pete Edochie's picture on a cover and I was like Whoa!! A friend of mine just came back last year with another set, much better quality. You would think they would have a website and market it directly (oops, maybe I just gave someone a million dollar idea for free LOL) |
I would actually prefer we gist and let things flow. Chatting doesn't have to boil down to an immediate request for biography. When pple ask me such up front (and am sure as you know, we tend to be very brash in our conversation), it turns me off. Just an opinion ![]() |
OutKast, Thanks a ton! I found stuff from Oritz and others I forgot to mention at first - Ras Kimono (whom I had the pleasure of meeting at the nigerian consulate in atlanta. He didn't believe I knew him until I did that "under pressure" leg shuffle he used to do back in the day ), and evi edna ogholi.I only had one problem with the site - it seems to be making a request to itself, so it wasn't easily navigable. For the good music, I can ignore that though ![]() Thanks once again. |
Is it just me, or is it that if you chat with any nigerian based in nigeria, they employ one of the following: 1) BUZZ (if you use YIM) 2) asl 2b) If you are the same sex, they immediately bail on you as if that is all that matters in chat room 3) What do you do? 4) I need your help No shakings o. I'm just wondering. Did I miss anything? ![]() |
Definitely Bonny M for me ![]() By the rivers of bablyon, Don't even get me started ![]() |
dearzi, During my last trip to Naija in 2004, I happened to find a VCD dealer who had the entire set of Things fall apart. I bought all 12 and am yet to regret dropping N4,800 for them all ![]() |
to follow up on my previous post: We should be careful when it comes to defeding our beliefs. We can't just say something just because that is what we have been taught from Sunday School. We should be able to study all the evidence on anything in front of us and draw our own conclusions without that conclusion shaking our faith. If at the end, your faith is shaken, then perhaps the foundation for such faith is in question. Again, just my 2 cents ![]() |
Fluffy, Though I don't necessarily believe in evolution, I wouldn't necessarily say that "stopped taking place". Let us start by defining evolution. dictionary.com defines it as, "A gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually more complex or better form". Given this, surely you can't say that evolution has "stopped taking place". For example, back in the day, we used firewood to provide fire. Generally speaking, most humans have evolved from using firewood to using some form of cooker. That to me is evolution. That is, the process of cooking has evolved from using firewood to using a cooker of some sort. I can just hear you saying "well, your example applies to a thing and not humans", Well then, allow me to retort At some point, humans used firewood. Though this is in itself complex (how to set up the wood, lighting the wood, etc), at some point, our brains had to evolve to the point of figurin out how to capture the fire in a form that would prevent large scale deforestation. In my opinion, this is pretty complex, as if you don't bottle the gas under certain conditions, it could blow in your face. How about mail. Were you around when mailing things overseas would take up to 6 months? Now UPS can deliver within a week. The point at which someone figured this out, to me, is an evolutionary process. So to reiterate, the process by which we all came to be (beginning with "big bang" may be in doubt. However, as humans we are evolving daily.Just my 2 cents ![]() |

mochafella, Thanks my broda. From my experience living in the US, everyone automatically jumps on the man. Take Halle Berry. Everyone jumps on the guys in her life (ok, her last hubby is the exception) but is it possible that though she looks sweet when in public, that she is the devil's advocate within the four walls of her house? To answer the husband material question: In my opinion, generally speaking, hollywood marriages are a sham. They are used either to promote something or an excuse to have unlimited, legal sexual access. Again, generally speaking, they are over within a few years. |
u seem to be hung up on the homosexuality part of it We can take this to YIM if you want (mu username is on my profile page), but to hopefully answer your question:I would have to watch the show in its entirety to make that judgement call. Right now though, if I say my kids won't watch, homosexuality isn't going to be the reason for now. It just doesn't rub me the right way. It's a feeling I can't explain. |
Again, I haven't watched the show for more than 30 seconds at a time. I am only reporting based on what I have followed on the news. For the few seconds I have watched it, I don't see it though. Again, regardless though, for the little I have seen, it just doesn't rub me the right way and as a result, none of my children will be watching it if I have my way ![]() |
there are those here in the states who claim that the purple (or abi na pink one? i no dey watch) teletubby is promoting homosexuality. Regardless, I just don't see the sense in 5 scary looking things hopping up and down on the screen lol |
spikedcylinder, you just made me reailize something - Just like our parents probably thought we were nuts for watching "Famous Five", so someone like me would ask what parent in their right mind would let their kid watch Teletubbies, for instance ![]() |
Fluffy, Preface: I am a christian ![]() When you say that evidence was made up by evolutionists, one can also argue that evidence was made up concerning the bible. You accept the happenings of the bible by faith I presume. As for my opinion, both theories co-exist. God created all things and over time, these things have evolved ![]() |
pascal (et al), In my opinion, there is nothing we, as individual citizens can do. I tell you what though - the government has a big time part to play. From providing basic infrastructure, to security, to providing funds for training, etc. Only then will companies (and even those of us in the diaspora) be encouraged to come there to do biz. It is only then that our ranking will increase to maybe even #1 in Africa. That's my 2 cents |
Interesing, Based on trailer, I must confess that this will be the first naija film I watch where the fight scenes are actually real. Not like the ones that are so fake, it makes u want to ban the fight choreographers from nollywood for life LOL |
Haa!! Consultant, you had to go there with Basi & Co. "To be a millionaire, think like a millionaire", "Madam the madam, It's a matter of cash" This is the type of conversation I was hoping to generate. Thanks guys. Let's keep the memories flowing. How I wish we could all hook up and get together at some joint somewhere, sit at a round table and gist away from dusk till dawn LOL |
It is interesting to c the responses. I no go lie - I went home to marry. But my reason was not to get "house wife" or "slave girl" In my case, though born abroad, I spent 13 yrs in naija and knew the family (we attended the same church) waaaaay before marriage came into the picture. In fact, anytime I visited, prior to showing interest, if I didn't stop by their house for food, I was in trouble. It just felt natural for me to marry from a family I knew well.Don't get me wrong. I have dated Naijans in america (as well as other nationalities ). For me, it boiled down to who God had for me. So even if she were from Bangladesh, it was all good as long as she was God-fearing and we both loved each other.Based on the "punishment" I got from US embassy, if I could do it again, I would rather marry from here though and that is what I tell pple who ask me for advice. It is tooo much. Then again, if Jacod could wait 14 years for his bride, what you go through at the US embassy may be worth it ![]() |
