muhsin:This is nonsense. To be sure, I consider many actions of the Israeli government to be repugnant to natural justice, equity and good conscience. But how can the actions of a government justify hatred for an entire race? The argument often used in support of this is that the Israeli people support their government. The vacuity of this argument is clear even before you start to analyse it. The ruling party in Israel was not necessarily elected by the majority. There are peace activists in Israel who campaign daily against Israel's settlement activities and other atrocities in Gaza and the West Bank as well as their land grab in East Jerusalem. There are political parties in Israel whose policies favour Palestinian demands. And "Jew" does not equal "Israeli". Besides, I think speaking of Jews' animus against Muslims either shows poor comprehension of the Middle East or is a deliberate act of mendacity. I am not aware that Jews hate Moslems in Nigeria. There are issues of land in the Middle East, not necessarily religion. Israel's actions have affected Palestinian Christians and non-believers as much as Moslems. This last festivity season the Iranian FA emailed out New Year wishes to all its counterparts worldwide and someone "mistakenly" included the Israeli FA! The Israelis responded calmly, wishing the Iranians the same. But hell broke loose in the Iranian FA and people were fired. Whose is pathologically hating? What has football got to do with it? What we have is Moslem hatred for Jews not Jewish "pathological animus of Muslims irrespective of your race". If there is an Iranian chatting on Nairaland and an Israeli logs on, I am sure the Iranian would log out immediately. There can be no justification for this sort of hatred of an entire race. Is it okay for me to hate Sudanese Arab Muslims because of the atrocities of the Sudanese government against my fellow blacks first in Southern Sudan and then in Darfur? When Muslims use "oppression" as justification for terrorism, they forget that black people have been the most put upon in recent history. Does that make it alright for us to hate whites and Arabs or seek to plant bombs in shopping malls? |
First off, I am cautious about pictures of this nature because it is not all of them that are genuine. I realised that after I saw pictures I did not need expert knowledge to know were orchestrated. They were quite good and even my friend who worked for an undercover security agency did not think they were doctored, but when I pointed out three things to him in them, he concurred immediately. However, these things do happen frequently in Nigeria and I have a personal experience of it. I still dream of Shola sometimes since that night in January 4 2002. ogajim:This is the problem we have. There will be no investigation of this and soon everyone will forget it. But let me add that "uncultured barbarism" is not the exclusive property of our security agencies. Barbarism in our police force can only be a reflection, perhaps, a multiplication or amplification, of that in the general societies. Some of those decrying these pictures here may have participated in or watched with smiles on their faces as mobs set alight some hapless soul suspected of stealing used shoes in Yaba or Ketu. When Yusuf, the Boko Haram leader, was extrajudicially killed some people cheered on this forum. It appears that we, the Nigerian society, are losing our sense of humanity. Once we allow the police to get away with killing suspected robbers, no matter how notorious the individual, that institutionalises a system that elevates jungle justice to state machinery. And there is no knowing that it can't get round to us. So I can reword the poem of Pastor Martin Niemöller, the anti-Nazi activist, thus: First they killed Boko Haram leaders, Davidylan cheered. Then they killed suspected rioters in Maiduguri, Davidylan cheered. Then they killed Davidylan, . . . |
stillgrds:Do you really think the Bible contains EVERYTHING? Anyway, is preaching from house to house justified by the Bible? stillgrds:Can you cite examples, please? stillgrds: Stick to the bible. Thats what the apostles did in the issue of circumcision back then in Jerusalem. What beliefs, for example? stillgrds: Worse are those who believe that the bible is open to just any interpretation. If it is not, whose interpretation do we trust and how do we know this? stillgrds: They do not care if one belief of their contradict another belief of theirs. By implication, they make it seem that the bible is a cause for confusion in itself. Look for the harmony in the bible from Genesis to Revelation and you can fits beliefs together - right to right and wrong to wrong.I think you are going to be saddled with the task of convincing folks of (1) the absolute trueness of the Bible (2) The interpretation given it by the website you provided. These are the basics. |

^^^ Yes, but power blocs happen to place a premium on it and the agreements said to have been reached in 1999 on it. We just have to get used to that fact which makes it qualify for analysis. |
I really like the brilliant analysis about Bukola and the game plan - had not thought of all that yet. If Yar Adua dies it is possible that they hide the body as part of the game, but that is quite unlikely because (1) they are Moslems (2) it would extremely difficult - you just don't succeed with that sort of thing, even in Nigeria! If Yar Adua dies, Jonathan becomes substantive President, but as long as he remains a vegetable, the "acting" situation will subsist - till 2011, which is just around the corner. I do not think Jonathan's powers will be limited by his acting capacity. Remember Ehud Olmert when he took over after Sharon became vegetative? Of course, Nigeria is different, but once some is pronounced C-in-C, you usually can't stop him. Only Ernest Shonekan in my memory managed to achieve the dubious distinction of being in office without being in power, but the reasons for that are quite obvious. Usually, there are no limited presidents, unless the occupant of the office decides to limit himself. There have been talks of "caging" going on all these weeks by the Northern power brokers to ensure that when JJ takes over he is not powerful, but I doubt that that sort of plan, if there was any, succeeds. On Jonathan's ability to take over the machineries of power, which is another way of saying the PDP power base, that is going to depend on his personal political astuteness. As for all that rotation business, only time will tell. |
Anyone knows anything about this institution? Is their system friendly? Is the certificate considered at par with those of regular schools? |
mukina2:I saw an interview with the parents of a bipolar guy with murderous instincts who killed himself to avoid killing others. Suicide is a sin, yes, but I don't see how you can circumscribe this one as many of you religionists tend to do. |
chukwudi44:But you cannot deny that at some point, particularly after the Church took over the Roman state and the Roman state took over the Church, egregious corruption set in. What the restorationists, from Martin Luther to Charles Taze Russel, from John Calvin to Joseph Smith, tell us is that they saw the need to restore Christianity to its original form, that is, as practised by the early disciples of Jesus of Nazareth. What say you to this? |
Jakumo:It's Goodluck Jonathan. |
When I heard this on radio, I applauded Merkel's courage. There is nothing morally reprehensible in her actions. It is her duty to smoke tax evaders out of their holes wherever they may be hiding, especially in these lean times. Legally? I am not learned at German law, but if they were obtained by security agencies, that should not be stealing in most climes. Security and intelligence agencies go to great lengths to get criminals. How else do you get evidence for criminal procedure - by asking the criminals to email them to you? I think the Swiss president who is harping on this point should hide her face in shame. In Nigerian law illegally obtained evidence is admissible in criminal proceedings in the courts. As for those overzealous prosecutors, I have nothing to say. |

dominique:This is correct. violent: dominique:Yeah, I found him lying on his bed would obviously be the correct one. But the other can also be correct in certain circumstances. For example, if I want to convey the impression that I am actually inside the bed (presupposes a covered bed). In bed may also be preferred if there are actions taking place therein. |
Jairzinho:Grammatically speaking, those who say option 2 are absolutely right. But the niceties of grammar are not sacrosanct in certain circumstances, such as naming. In deed, that apostrophe is often dispensed with in naming, thus a park is more likely to be named St James Park rather than St James' Park, just like Ramat Park in Benin City. |

Viaro: There are other ways that such recollections without prior cognisance are expressed. Some have remarked that it may be the manifestation of some 'familiar spirit(s)', which is not impossible. However, there's another example that fits the above description in your comments, viz: the idiot savant.Just seen this. The term "idiot savant" is now considered derogatory. Experts now use the term "autistic savant". Just thought I should let your readers know this. |
Mohammed is indeed mentioned by name in the Gospel of Barnabas. Here is a portion from Chapter 97. "Then said the priest: "How shall the Messiah be called, and what sign shall reveal his coming?" Jesus answered: "The name of the Messiah is admirable, for God himself gave him the name when he had created his soul, and placed it in a celestial splendour. God said: "Wait Muhammad; for your sake I will to create paradise, the world, and a great multitude of creatures, whereof I make you a present, insomuch that whoever shall bless you shall be blessed, and whoever shall curse you shall be accursed. When I shall send you into the world I shall send you as my Messenger of salvation, and your word shall be true, insomuch that heaven and earth shall fail, but your faith shall never fail." Muhammad is his blessed name." Then the crowd lifted up their voices, saying: "O God send us your Messenger: O Muhammad, come quickly for the salvation of the world!" But from its garbled comprehension of Islam to its dating, the gospel of Barnabas is so laughable that if it were a play it would be classified as a farce. I have not the strength to to into it now so I will just reproduce my post from another thread: I looked up that gospel some time in the past. It is similar to another one called The Gospel according to Islam. In the gospel of Barnabas Mohammed is mentioned by name as the admirable prophet to come after Christ with a message from God. It affirms the major Islamic ideas of Jesus as a servant of God rather than a son. There are many reasons to dismiss this gospel as a "fake" (where "fake" means a gospel that was not written at about the same time as the canonical ones, or one that was written by someone with a clear agenda.) For one thing, there is evidence suggesting that it was written after the 14th century, rather than the first century. One thing is the writing style. Another is its reference to nine heavens, with paradise as the 10th, an idea that was propounded by Dante only in the 14th century. The oldest copies of the gospel are written in Spanish and Italian, not Latin, Greek, Aramaic or Hebrew. Some moslems have latched on to this gospel to show that Jesus preached about Mohammed. Many scholars, including some Moslem ones, are of the view that the gospel should not be taken seriously. |

^^^ Ok. I would take back the word, "sufferer". I didn't even note I had used it. Being born with incomplete, surplus or malformed body parts or organs, such as fingers, is not normal and is almost certainly the result of a disorder that took place in the womb. But, of course, I would not go around shouting "disorder", "disorder", around the individual. But if I was the individual I would recognise I have a disorder and try to find a solution, if possible. I agree that the procreation argument used by some anti-gay campaigners is a non-starter. I only cited it to show the generally recognised order of nature. I am against all stigmatisation. A lot of people have people with disorders in their families and they learn to accept such people. |
ravenzord:This is correct. If I were poster, I would pay a lot of attention to PUNCTUATION. For example, Then he was in front of her, his elegant fingers wrapped around the glass of wine like the tendrils of ugu leaves draping over the sticks. She swallowed, hard and hoped he hadn’t heard or at least seen her exposed neck in her off shouldered dress bob up and down with the movement. should be: Then he was in front of her, his elegant fingers wrapped around the glass of wine like the tendrils of ugu leaves draping over the sticks. She swallowed hard and hoped he hadn’t heard or at least seen her exposed neck in her off shouldered dress bob up and down with the movement. Note the italicisation and the removal of a comma. Personally, I would break off "at least" with a comma, but that is a matter of preference. The use of symbolisms and figurative expressions is good in literature, but I believe something good can be too much. And I have observed this in much of modern Nigerian writing. His hair is the strands of an eaten mango, his eyes are clear like the sea, his mouth is . . . . And the read goes, "well, what's his waist like?" Gossipgurl:This is very funny. I think gossip girl will make a good writer. Her use of words is creative. ![]() |

kkkossy: ![]() I can't make sense out of this one. Whoever informed you Nigerians have low IQ? kkkossy:It is understandable for people to go on and on about Einstein. Let's bear in mind, though, that average IQ score is 100, with a standard deviation of 70-130. A score of 130 and above is considered a genius IQ and makes the individual admissible to MENSA, the high IQ society. Based on the above, the 160 returned by Einstein is a very high genius score.
Is da vinci more intelligent than einstien
In terms of achievement, comparing Einstein to Leonardo is an uninformed position. Einstein was a physicist and mathematician who made ground breaking discoveries. What about Leonardo? For those who don't know him, let me quote a portion of an encyclopaedia entry on him: "Leonardo is regarded as the consummate Renaissance man not primarily for his scientific accomplishments but because of his extraordinary range of achievements. Leonardo was a painter, sculptor, engineer, architect, physicist, biologist, and philosopher—and he was outstanding in each of these fields. Science influenced all of Leonardo’s activities; he believed in observing nature and carrying out experiments. As a painter, Leonardo studied the laws of optics and the optical structure of the eye; he studied human anatomy with the thoroughness of a medical surgeon to understand how to paint the torso. Leonardo’s ability to solve physics problems in the fields of static (stationary) and dynamic (moving) mechanics fortified his civil and military engineering work. Leonardo excelled at physics. He anticipated the principle of inertia, which would be demonstrated by Galileo nearly a century later. The inertia principle is the idea that an isolated body, not in contact with anything, will continue moving at a constant velocity forever. Understanding this concept required deep insight since it is not at all easy to imagine an abstract idea such as an “isolated body.” Leonardo knew that the speed of a falling body increases over time. He knew that perpetual motion was impossible as a source of power, and he invented a mathematical scheme for proving the law of the lever. Leonardo worked on the flow of water through pipes, designing an irrigation system and channels. He studied wave motion on water and extended this study to waves in the air and the laws of sound." So in addition to science, Leonardo made vast achievements in painting, sculpture and architecture. He not only recorded groundbreaking achievements in many many fields, he anticipated future developments in medicine, aeronautics and engineering. He drew aircrafts, which were made only hundreds of years later. He was a universal genius! Does IQ score determine achievements? No, of course. Because (1) No IQ test is perfect. (2) Some human beings make more effort and apply themselves better than others - Einstein may have had a better environment and applied himself far more than several other geniuses. But there may be a third reason why a lower score person can record more achievements than a high scorer:
He was definitely a genius, but this was not primarily due to his IQ, but his amazing level on transcendental thinking.
Those who hold this view tell us that it is impossible to bring about great discoveries or inventions with the five senses we all possess. They believe that a SIXTH SENSE is required to achieve the extraordinary. How, for instance, would Michael Faraday, with his very limited education, know that there is electricity out there? beejaei:All those on that list consented for their IQ to be made public or the relevant data could be assessed otherwise. Obama has not made his IQ or information that can help assess it public. Even his SAT score is not publicly known. There have been several speculations, much of it useless. But he came second in his class of elite students, that says a lot. |
bawomolo:I think you misapprehend me. From my post above and an earlier post in this thread, I believe it is clear I do not take a pigheaded approach to this subject. Different homosexuals feel differently. If John thinks he has a problem, I would help him find it, if I can. If Okon thinks he is fine, I would accept him as he is. I personally do not see it as a disorder. A deviation from the norm but hey,Let's face it, Bawo: A man who came into the world without fingers has a disorder. So is a child who is born without the external ge.ni.talia, and so is a hermaphrodite, that is, a child who is is born with both male and female ge.ni.tals. These are different types of congenital disorders. The sufferers do not deserve scorn, but understanding and acceptance. It is quite obvious that nature intended men and women to complement and procreate. A man being attracted to another man is a deviation from the norm. Science has proven that that deviation can be caused by a disorder brought on during embryogenesis. While I share the view of liberals and philanthropists on the need to accept homosexuals an am intolerant of intolerant people, I do not think they can change what are known facts. |

JeSoul:I did not mean to convey that genes are responsible for homosexuality. I am hardly qualified to make that assertion or any similar one. The point I was making was that we do not know that genes are not responsible – there is already so much militant misunderstanding of homosexuality about. What we do know is that homosexuality is mostly not something you pick up at all-boys school or decide to go into for recreation as many believe. It appears most, if not all, homosexuals grow up to find that their sexual orientation is inverted. There are several possibilities and the gene theory is one of them, though not a particular strong one. I personally would pay closer attention to the theory that it is a congenital disorder which may, in some, be amenable to drugs, psychotherapy or hypnotism and not be in others. People exhibit signs of homosexuality early in life. To drive home this point, I think we need to consider the case of transvestism. This problem occurs with or without of the sexual orientation. There was a popular story of the kid in, UK, I think, who had this problem – the boy thought he was a girl. (I heard this on British radio over a year ago, so I hope I recall it right.) Growing up he slipped into girls clothes, played with girls and behaved like them. Unfortunately the law in his country did not allow him to have what is called “gender reassignment surgery” until he turned 18 to CORRECT his system. So he was flown to the US where he was given female focal places and he now lives a NORMAL life. I believe it is easily deducible that hermaphroditism is a physical manifestation of a similar disorder. The congenital nature of homosexuality is backed up by scientific studies which found that the female-type sexual behavior can form in genetic males and the male-type sexual behavior can form in genetic females as a result of hormonal misbalance during a certain stage of embryogenesis. This problem with all the scientific studies that have been conducted on this subject, though, is that they have found no single factor, such as the one above, explains all cases of homosexuality. So a 1976 study throws more light. Can homosexuality be acquired? That has not been ruled out. Permit me to quote Dr Antonov: Basing on examination of homosexual men in 1976, we pointed out different origins of the active and the passive forms of the disease.Spiritual perspectives on homosexuality? I do have some materials on that, but they are not 100% Christian-oriented. But I think homosexuality is a psychosomatic issue and not a spiritual one. Yes, it can be that a person is born gay. |
spikedcylinder:Everyone making this point is unmindful of the fact this fellow might have a mental problem, which, according to the director of Yaba Psychiatric Hospital, is rising at alarming proportions in Nigeria. This last December I saw a lady close to me stalked. We tricked the guy into coming around and when confronted (with unfriendly stares only) he begged for forgiveness. After that day he then started to calling SEVERAL TIMES A DAY . . . to do what? To apologise to her and explain that he was not a bad person!
