Insecurity: Citizens of Adamawa, Yobe, others hold ‘thank you rally’ to Buhari over return of peace

No fewer than 5,000 Nigerians from five states in the northeast, on Thursday, held a ‘Thank You Rally’ to the Aso Villa in appreciation of President Muhammadu Buhari over return of peace to their states. They comprised of natives of Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe States, who were once under the shackles of Boko Haram terrorists.

Adamu, on behalf of the Concerned Citizens of Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe States admitted that the era of multiple bombings, terror and bloodshed is now in the past. “We here today represent the elders, non-partisan and socio-cultural organizations, women and children from the states which have been fully liberated from the claws of terrorism,” he said. “This delegation of 5,000 men and women and great citizen of this country is our humble show of appreciation to your efforts, MR. President Sir. This has been made possible by your unwavering commitment and resolve to bequeath us a country that we all craves for.

Mr president we are indeed very grateful for keeping to your promise of restoring peace and security to the North-East region. You assured that you will deal with the Boko Haram menace and true to your words you have done just that. You are indeed ‘Mai Gaskiya’. “Our solidarity here today is informed by the need to thank you and to equally ask for more as peace has continued to return to our various states. We appreciate that you are making a lot of effort to equip the military and other security agencies. We appreciate your effort in setting up the North East Development Commission (NEDC), a great intervention that has helped greatly in restoring peace through development. Our people no doubt have not had it this good in a very very long while.”

The group also praised the governors of these five states for supporting the president and the Nigerian Army, ensuring lasting peace returns to their domains. Adamu’s words, “In all of these we are not unmindful of the impact of the cooperation of our various state Governors with your government in other to achieve this peace. We commend our various governors for their cooperation and smooth working with the Federal Government plue cooperation with the army and other security agencies. “This cooperation is a major pillar in the task to restore normalcy to the north east. This symbiotic relationship across the northeast is a major reason for the elimination of Boko Haram in our states. It has always been clear to us, that to win the war against the terrorist our unity as a people and cooperation with the FG and our great military is very important.” The citizens, however, appealed to President Buhari to continue his rebuilding and rehabilitation efforts in these states, providing the necessary funding for the troops and NEDC. “We appreciate you today Mr. President and want to ask that you do not relent in your effort at providing more funding to the NEDC and security agencies working to tackle security in the North East. We ask that you continue to use your great office to rally the leaders and people of the North-East together to be united in their fight against terrorism. “Mr President, once again we say we are very grateful for all your efforts that are now yielding good results in our various states. This is priceless to a lot of us here, considering where we were only a few years ago.”

A video of a Nigerian lady interrogating her househelp who allegedly poured insecticide into her drinking water, has been shared online.

It was not stated where exactly this happened.

While some Nigerians are in support of what the madam did, others are of the opinion that the boss must have been so wicked to the househelp for her to think of killing her.

Mali Crisis: Ex-President Jonathan Visits Buhari In Abuja

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday visited President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Jonathan was accompanied by members of the team on the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Mission to Mali.

According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the visit is to brief President Buhari on the update in Mali.

“We told them that no international organization, including the African Union (AU), United Nations (UN), and others, would agree with their position. We continued to emphasize the need for dialogue,” Jonathan was quoted as saying.

The former President added that the Constitutional Court had been reconstituted and inaugurated, while vacancies in the Supreme Court had been filled, thus sorting out the judicial arm of government.

On his part, President Buhari thanked Jonathan for what he called “the stamina you have displayed” on the Mali issue.

He counselled further consultations with the Chairman of ECOWAS, President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger Republic.

Jonathan’s visit to the villa comes barely a month after he met with his successor to brief him on the political development in Mali.

The former President who is part of the envoy from the West Africa bloc ECOWAS made a surprise visit to the Sahel on August 11, on the eve of opposition-led demonstrations against embattled President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

Speaking at a press conference in the capital Bamako that evening, Jonathan said “demonstrations do not solve problems per se” and talks would resolve the crisis.

As part of the measures to broker peace in the country, West African leaders met on July 24 amid protests for the resignation of President Keita.

The day-long summit, however, ended without a deal to soothe the country’s escalating political crisis.

Five of the region’s leaders met Keita and leaders of a protest movement clamouring for his resignation, as a long-running jihadist insurgency threatens to throw the country into chaos.

But the intervention failed to seal a deal and Niger’s President Mahamadou Issoufou — at the talks along with the leaders of Senegal, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria — said Western African bloc ECOWAS would hold a summit on July 27.
Deepening crisis

Keita, who came to power in 2013, has come under increasing pressure to end Mali’s long-running jihadist conflict.

The poor nation of some 20 million people has been struggling to contain an insurgency that has driven hundreds of thousands of people from their homes since 2012, despite the presence of foreign troops.

In the latest violence, a French soldier was killed and two others were wounded in a suicide car bomb attack in northern Mali, according to France’s presidency and the French army.

But much of the current tension was sparked in April, when the constitutional court tossed out 31 results from the parliamentary elections, benefiting Keita’s party and sparking protests.

Tensions then ratcheted up into a crisis on July 10 when an anti-Keita rally organised by the June 5 Movement turned violent.

Three days of clashes between protesters and security forces left 11 dead and 158 injured in the worst political unrest Mali had seen in years.

Seeking a way out, ECOWAS mediators suggested forming a new unity government including opposition members and appointing new constitutional court judges who could potentially re-examine disputed election results.

But the June 5 Movement had already rejected any outcome that did not involve Keita’s departure.

Politics / (VIDEO) Moment Oshiomhole Addressed APC Governor’s Forum DG As A Pig by MYZOLE: 2:08pm On Aug 18, 2020

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkwtKD0PEUc

A former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has chided the Progressives Governors Forum’s Director General, Salihu Lukman, one of his critics within the party.

Mr Oshiomhole, shortly after his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, on Wednesday, compared the forum’s DG to a ‘pig’ which he (Oshiomhole) will not wrestle with.

“You want me to engage in a fight with a pig? If you engage in a fight with a pig, the pig already is stained by its nature and you will wear your white garment, and in my own case, kaaki to go and wrestle with a pig? I will not,” he told journalists.

Mr Lukman, who heads the secretariat of the APC governors forum, had faulted Mr Oshiomhole for the party’s crisis in Edo State which led to the incumbent governor’s decamping to an opposition party and his (Oshiomhole) ouster as party chairman.

Also in one of his recent statements published by PREMIUM TIMES, he cautioned the party’s former chairman against playing a front role in Edo State’s governorship campaign. He advised him “to emulate (APC leader) Bola Tinubu’s model of campaign”.

“The APC campaign is personalised around Comrade Oshiomhole and the candidate of the party, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is an onlooker. We need to appeal to Comrade Oshiomhole to ‘calm down’. This campaign is not about his person,” Mr Lukman had said.
Counter attack

In his reaction on Monday while adressing the Presidential Villa correspondents, Mr Oshiomhole compared his reputation in Edo State to that of President Buhari whom he projected would remain relevant even after his tenure elapsed in 2023.

“There is no village I go to that people do not know me and is this that I used to override the godfathers in Edo State for two consecutive terms and even got the governor elected through elections, no violence before becoming the national chairman.

“So, if you remove the office…is like our president now, though I cannot compare myself to him, but it is like President Muhammadu Buhari by 2023, when his tenure would have lapsed as President but those who believe in him, in 2024 and beyond, each time they see him, that trust they have in him will always be there.

“He bonds with the people, that bond was not created by the fact that he is the president, in fact he became the president because of that bond,” he said.

Mr Oshiomhole took a swipe at Mr Lukman alleging that he is only doing the bidding of his (Oshiomhole) critics within the ruling APC.

So my attitude is not to reply the noise and it is coming from somebody who says he is an employee and appointee of Progressives Governors Forum, he is just like the cowards that are using him that are not able to come out.

“Otherwise, you should ask this guy, who is now an election expert. He contested for Senate against Makarfi, he lost. He even contested against governor El-Rufai during the primaries and he lost, before (governor) Fayemi unilaterally appointed him the DG,” he said.

The Rivers State Government has announced the reopening of all markets in the state about five months after their closure as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Governor Nyesom Wike, who gave announced the reopening in a state-wide broadcast on Monday, said the reopening of the markets took effect from 7am on Tuesday, August 18 (today), adding that they would close at 6pm daily.

He, however, said the Rumukwurushe Oil Mill Market and the Oginiba Slaughter Market, both in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, remain closed, just as he said churches could operate at 50 per cent of their hall capacity.

The governor stated, “Any market that opens to the public and fails to comply strictly with protocols shall be closed down. The market managers shall be prosecuted, while the contravening shops shall be forfeited to the state government without notice.

“Similarly, churches can now hold services with 50 per cent of their hall capacity provided the leadership can enforce wearing of face masks and washing of hands at the entrance by worshippers.

Politics / Insecurity: Buratai Reveals 90% Of Kidnappers, Bandits Are Nigerians - VIDEO by MYZOLE: 6:11pm On Jul 20, 2020

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEgAQnYFq9Q

ABUJA — CHIEF of Army Staff, COAS, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai on Monday said that over 90 percent of kidnappers, bandits and armed robbers operating in the country are Nigerians. The Chief of Army Staff also said that if Nigerians resolve to end banditry in the shortest time, it would end even as he said that terrorism and kidnapping had been an age-long security challenge in the country.

Briefing State House correspondents after meeting behind closed doors with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Gen. Buratai said there is the need for the citizens to be involved in sharing information with security personnel. He also pleaded with the media not to be giving undue publicity to the criminal elements, saying that the publicity the bandits and terrorists get embolden them to perpetuate their dastardly act. Recall that last month President Buhari in a meeting with Service Chiefs and other security heads had warned that he would no longer tolerate escalation of insecurity in the house. He had told the security heads that their “best is not good enough,” and warned against further deterioration of the security situation in the country. The President had frowned at lack of synergy among the security heads and told them to work together in order to bring to a halt myriads of security challenges bedevilling the country.

Last Saturday, it was reported that armed bandits allegedly killed 16 soldiers and injured 30 in an ambush around Shimfida in Jibia local government area of Katsina. Besides, kidnappers had struck in Kaduna few days ago and allegedly abducted over six persons including a policewoman.

NDDC acting MD passes out while testifying before reps probe panel

Kemebradikumo Pondei, acting managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), passed out during a session of the house of representatives committee probing the commission, on Monday.

He passed out while testifying before the panel.

Other participants at the meeting made spirited effort to revive him.

After he came around, he was taken out of the venue.

The panel subsequently adjourned the session for 30 minutes — though there was a motion that today’s session be adjourned till a future date.

Pondei appeared before the panel last Thursday, but he stormed out of the session after he accused Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, chairman of the NDDC house committee of complicity in the fraud at the agency.

He said the chairman cannot preside over a case that he is an accused.

Tunji-Ojo withdrew from the session on Monday.

Godswill Akpabio, minister of Niger Delta affairs, is still expected to testify before the panel.

The panel is investigating the alleged mismanagement of N81.5 billion by the interim management of the NDDC led by Pondei.

Politics / Anti-graft War: Groups Pass Votes Of Confidence On Malami - VIDEO by MYZOLE: 12:09pm On Jul 20, 2020

Anti-Graft War: Groups Pass Votes Of Confidence On Malami

A group of Civil Society Organisations has passed a vote of confidence on the Attorney- General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN.

In the last few weeks, there has been what the minister described as campaign of calumny against him and some other government officials in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The organisations, Northern Youths Progressive Assembly, South West Youths Congress and South East Youths Movement Of Nigeria, at a joint press conference in Abuja, alleged threat to the life of Malami, for his stand on the anti-corruption fight of the federal government.

The National Co-ordinators of the groups, Comrade Adamu Kabir Matazu, Comrade Olamide Odumosu and Comrade Emanuel B. Chidibere, warned an online publication, Sahara Reporters to stop spreading fake news about the AGF.

The group highlighted the many achievements of Malami as AGF since his appointment by President Mohammadu Buhari to include his stand on the fight against corruption in line with policies of President Mohammadu Buhari’s administration; his advise to the federal government in the Processing and Industrial Development Limited (P&ID) case where Nigeria would have lost $9.6billion to dubious characters and proactive and preventive steps in the fight against Sex and Gender Based Violence

The youth groups said, ” For these reasons and many more, we, the Northern Youths Progressive Assembly, South West Youths Congress And South East Youths Movement Of Nigeria are passing VOTES of CONFIDENCE on Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, the Honourable Attorney-General and Minister of Justice because we are sure of his capability to bring the needed turn around to the justice sector in line with the vision of the government of President Buhari.

From our findings, we discovered that the reason for the attacks on the Honourable AGF is simply because he is exposing corrupt elements in this government in line with the vision of the present administration on zero tolerance for corruption. The AGF has done all within his power to expose corrupt elements in government who want to bring ridicule and shame to the administration of President Buhari, who is doing his best to ensure a free, fair and just society for all Nigerians.

”We, the Northern Youths Progressive Assembly, South West Youths Congress and South East Youths Movement of Nigeria, hereby, call on the Honourable AGF to stay focussed and not be distracted by the noise of those who are vehemently opposed to the anti-corruption fight of Mr. President.

”We are also calling on President Mohammadu Buhari to disregard all the baseless allegations and campaign of calumny against the AGF, the SSA to the President on Media and Publicity and other government functionaries who are working very hard to deliver on the promises of Mr. President to Nigerians”.

The group described the detractors as frustrated opposition who lost election in 2015 and 2019 and are yet to recover from the shock of their loss and are hell-bent on causing havoc to achieve their aim of destabilizing the country through unfounded and unsubstantiated allegations against government officials.

The group further said, ”Their motive to cause unrest with their unsuccessful “RevolutionNow” didn’t work due to the foresight of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

”In addition to this campaign of calumny, there are clandestine plans which constitute threats to the life of the Attorney-General of the Federation whom they consider as a stumbling block in achieving their goals. We call on authorities to beef more security around the AGF and hold these detractors responsible for anything that happens to this patriotic, detribalised and selfless Chief Law Officer of the Country”.

Politics / Coalition Raises Alarm Over Threat To Gbemudu’s Life By Boko Haram by MYZOLE: 11:31am On Jul 20, 2020

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGu_9c2HSug

Coalition of Civil Society Groups have raised the alarm over threat to the life of Anslem Gbemudu, Chief Executive Officer of Global Real Estate Investors and Financial Services by Boko Haram for allegedly masterminding the arrest and killing of their top rank leader, Mohammed Yusuf in 2009.

This was contained in a statement signed by the
Convener of Initiative For
Social Progress International, David Yusuf; Co-Convener of
Nigeria National Coalition for Democracy and Good Governance, Abah Michael; and
Co-Convener, Mass Movement
For a New Nigeria Dansirja Ibraheem Hamza, yesterday.

They explained that: “For yesteryears, the life of the President and Chief Executive Officer of Global Real Estate Investors and Financial Services, Chief Anslem Gbemudu has been an entanglement of risks and high level threats targeted at exterminating his existence and decimating his business engagements by the dreaded Boko Haram sect of Nigeria owing to their tenacious belief that he masterminded the arrest and eventual killing of their top rank leader and spiritual director, Mohammed Yusuf who died 2009.

“With Mohammed’s death in 2009 following an unsuccessful attempt to evade police custody, members of his sect drew illogical conclusions that Chief Anslem Gbemudu could not be extricated of blameworthiness to the ill fate of their acclaimed spiritual leader.

“Having given the above historical trace to shed light into the unjustifiable circumstances that have made imminent, the sought death of this illustrious son of Nigeria’s origin by the Boko Haram, it is sacrosanct to inform the government and people of Nigeria as well as the international community in unequivocal terms, the position of the Civil Society Groups that, this inordinate plot that has lingered unhindered for many years is unreasonable, unfounded, unjustifiable, vexatious, malignant and a malicious affront to the inalienable rights of Chief Premium Anslem Gbemudu and the development of the nation and is deserving of condemnation by all.

“We state categorically that Chief Gbemudu is a veteran and pathfinder whose commitment and traces of positive impact to redefining the chequered history of Nigeria’s political, ethnic and religious struggles ought to be given a nod and celebrated. His intellectual savvy and administrative ingenuity is ostensibly engraved on the consciences of those he rescued from religious hypnotism.

“Chief Anslem Gbemudu is one of the few Nigerians whose national and international concern for the cause of the minority ethnicities of Nigeria has remained undeterred and dogged.
“His relished for fairness, equity, unity, peace, progress and social justice has endured a three decade test of veracity examined by threats and attempted assassination.

“In the interest of the Nigerian State and its peoples, we state without circumlocutions that we hold him dear to our hearts and in the highest esteem. An affront to him, is an affront to the civil liberties of the innocent citizens of Nigeria.

“In conclusion, we draw strength from the juristic permutations of Justice Chukwudifu Oputa of revered and blessed memory who posited that, ‘if we must accept the intrinsic worth of any man, then justice remains the minimum debt we owe to him; for if we deny him justice, we have inexorably declared him worthless.’

High Chief Premium Anslem Gbemudu, in his statesmanly disposition has contributed and is contributing fairly to the development of the Nation and should be applauded rather than insulted and sought to be persecuted.

“Our profound fear is the inability of the Government of Nigeria to protect and avert harm from coming his way as the Government continues to fail to contain Boko Haram that has indeed metamorphosed into the only feely armed citizens of Nigeria the cattle rearers that are disseminating and spreading into all areas of Nigeria with the core purpose of islamizing the entire Country into an islamic caliphate by force.”

Politics / Video: Moment Rivers Police Commissioner Stated His Men's Actions Were Legit by MYZOLE: 5:00pm On Jul 17, 2020

The Rivers state Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, says he was duly aware of the attempted arrest of the former NDDC Managing Director, Joi Nunieh, at her Port Harcourt home on Thursday, July 16.

Recall that Nunieh who is in a running battle with the Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio who she has accused of corruption, was to appear before the House of Representatives committee investigating the activities of the NDDC on Thursday, July 17. She was to fly from Port Harcourt to Abuja that day but early in the morning, some police officers stormed her home with the intent to arrest her.

In an interview she had with newsmen, Nunieh said she contacted the state Commissioner of Police and he told her he wasn't aware of the operation.

The state governor, Nyesom Wike, who came to rescue her and took her out of the premises, also said in a press conference that he contacted the state Commissioner of Police who told him he wasn't aware of the operation.

However, in an interview with some newsmen today July 17, the state Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, said he was duly aware of the operation.

'''It was never an illegal duty. It was a legitimate duty from the IG monitoring unit of which we are aware of their presence here.

What people don't seem to understand is that it is not in every situation that you need a warrant of arrest. There are situations that you can arrest without warrant. There are situations that you can arrest without warrant and then as a followup, that one can be issued. So the fact that they do not have a warrant of arrest at that moment does not make the whole exercise an illegality. It is very legitimate. It is in the confine of the constitution'' he said

Reacting to Governor Wike's claim that he called him and he said he wasn't aware of the operation, Mukan said

We are aware. They came here and we endorsed their investigation activities. Nobody tried to reach me in respect of that. Ordinarily if they say I am not aware, did they try to find out from me whether I am aware or not? I endorsed their investigation activity. We were aware of their presence here.

Nobody said he should not protect his citizen but everything should be done within the confine of the law. I am the chief law enforcement officer of the command so if you rescue your citizen, we expect you to turn her over to the police who are in a better position to protect her.

I still believe he is going to turn her over because the exercise was legitimate, was within the confine of the law''

Mukan added

''I have gotten in touch with him and advised him to turn her over''

The Senate has approved N168 billion to fund the personnel, overhead and capital expenditure of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) for 2020.

The approval was made after the Senate considered the report of its committee on finance, presented by the chairman, Solomon Olamilekan (APC, Lagos West).

In his presentation, Mr Adeola narrated the budget performance of the FIRS and gave a summary of the 2020 proposed budget.

The committee, he said, observed that “the FIRS operates below the line account used for tax refund and support for the construction of the head office.”

“The committee also frowned at the unnecessary delay in submitting the budget for 2020. However, the current executive chairman explained that they took over the leadership of FIRS in November/December and the budget for 2020 was not ready as at then. And Covid-19 was also responsible for the delay.”

A breakdown of the approved 2020 budget is as follows:

*N1.56 trillion was projected for Oil revenue;

*N4.502 from Non-Oil revenue;

*N180.086 billion projected for four per cent cost of collection;

Nunieh had called Arise TV early this morning that about 15 policemen invaded her house in Port Harcourt.

The invasion reportedly happened around 4 a.m.

Nunieh was scheduled to appear in Abuja today before a senate panel probing the finances of the NNDC.

Later, both Arise TV and TVC reported that Governor Nyesom Wike went to the house at 3, Owuru Creek view, off Herbert Macaulay Street, Old GRA, Port Harcourt, to rescue the woman.

The police are yet to explain why they stormed the home of Nunieh, on the same day, she was scheduled to travel to Abuja to testify.

Akpabio and Nunieh have been embroiled in war of words over allegations of corruption in the NDDC.

The former MD of NDDC, accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, budget padding, fraud, among others, which the Minister has denied.

Politics / 2023: Sacked APC Leaders, Others Behind Attack On Malami NYCN by MYZOLE: 11:34am On Jul 16, 2020

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxScMbF4YFI

Romanus Ugwu, Abuja

The leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has alleged that the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) still angry over the dissolution of the National Working Committee (NWC) are behind the spate of attacks on the Attorney General and Minister for Justice Abubakar Malami, SAN.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, NYCN National President, Comrade Solomon Adodo, equally claimed that certain persons the former Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, worked for are also behind the Chief Law Officer of the country.

“Following the suspension and imminent sack of the former Acting Chairman, EFCC, Magu, many stories have been sponsored in the different media. Most of them, out right lies; some are concoctions and a hotchpotch of deliberate falsehood, dirty imaginations and misdirected vengeful attacks. Which ever way, any story built on lies cannot stand against people of proven integrity.

“The first group of these people not only aim to rubbish the determination of President Buhari to rid the country of systemic corruption, but also to destabilize his government so that an eventual takeover is guaranteed.

They began by insinuating that if Magu is guilty of corruption, it means the President has altogether lost it.

“In fact, they claim that by the government allowing him to stay this long, it means the anti-corruption fight is a charade. But this notion is laughable, because it is the same government of Buhari that is probing him now. But we shall deal with this point later.

Another group has focused their attention on the Star Chief Law Officer of federation, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice Abubakar Malami, SAN.

“Their own antics are infantile, comical and full of delusions that one is forced to pity them. You may have seen a building which they claim that Malami built for his son. And you may have read of other properties which they unsuccessfully tried to link him to.

“These have all been found to be nothing other than merchandise in falsehood.
Now one would wonder what is Malami’s offence. There may be too many, but we would share with you the ones we know.

Malami is one of those who are close and genuine to President Muhammadu Buhari. He understands clearly, what his vision is, and does everything within the law to actualize that vision,” they claimed.

Specifically accusing the ruling party leadership of unnecessary attack on Malami, the Council said: “Consequent upon point one above, when the APC was headed to an avoidable crisis, with litigations everywhere, Mr. President in his capacity as the authentic leader of the Party announced his endorsement of a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. According to the him, he has “sought highest legal opinions…”

“That legal opinion is now credited to the Attorney General, Malami. But we dare add here, that if it was Malami alone that gave the President that legal opinion, he gave a very correct legal advice, the APC should remain very grateful to him.

“Following point two above, the NWC was dissolved. We are aware that those who that party leadership was working for are still very unhappy. And since there is a limit to how they can vent their anger on Mr. President, they have chosen to unleash all their venoms on the Attorney General,” NYCN alleged.

The leadership also claimed that: “While the party issue was a matter of subtle plots and psychological combat, the probe of Ibrahim Magu which has opened unbelievable can of worms began. Remember that it was Mr. Malami in his capacity as the Chief Law Officer of the Federal Government that insisted, following intelligence and reports, that Magu should be probed. This has angered some powerful quarters.

“There are people who Magu appeared to have worked for, other than the President and Nigeria he was appointed to work for. To these people, Malami is an eternal enemy for doing his job patriotically.

“There is another group that believe that their political ambitions, which they placed above the Party they hope to achieve those ambitions, have been fractured or scuttled by a simple correct legal advice by the Attorney General of the federation.

“So when you begin to hear about those lies, spurious allegations and smear campaigns, these are some of the reasons. A man was given a job by someone who has faith in him. That man is doing that job honestly and without regards to whose ox is gored, and some people who feel powerful are doing everything to dent him and intimidate him.

“As young people, we say a firm NO! If Malami and those who share the genuine vision of Mr. President are not rallied round, the vultures hanging around will feast on this country and even a carcass may not be left. The Honourable Attorney General and Minister of Justice do not see the need to join issues with anybody because clear conscience fears no accusation. He is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

“He knows the law. And we believe he will continue to stay on the side of the law and good morality. But we as Nigerian Youths owe this country a Patriotic duty at this time to defend those who are Patriotic; who are on the side of a good leader, President Buhari; and who are on the side of the law.

For those questioning the success of Mr. President in the Anti-corruption fight, what is happening with Magu is a testimony to the fact that the fight is on a good course.

“Some people who the President trusted with sensitive assignments may sabotage him. But none will escape when found. That is what the Anti-corruption crusade and policy is all about.

We thank Mr. President for remaining very committed to this fight. It is a fight to save our future as youths, and we deeply appreciate it,” Comrade Adodo noted.

Politics / Flying Officer Arotile: Escaped Bullets From Bandits, Died In Freak Road Acciden by MYZOLE: 11:03am On Jul 16, 2020

Flying Officer Arotile: Escaped Bullets from Bandits, Died in Freak Road Accident

Chiemelie Ezeobi writes that the recent death of Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile, Nigeria’s first ever female combat helicopter pilot, who continuously escaped enemy fire during her combat operations against banditry in the North-central, only to die in a freak road accident in Kaduna, has defied logic

The death of Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile, Nigeria’s first ever female combat helicopter pilot, is the stuff ironies are made of- she had successfully evaded death as bandits shot at her aircraft during one of her recent operations, only to die in a freak accident inside the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base in Kaduna on Tuesday, July 14.

She had just come back from Operation GAMA AIKI in Minna, Niger State, where she was deployed in the fight to rid the North-central states of armed bandits and other criminal elements by flying several combat missions.

Ironically, in one of her most recent operations, she was targeted by the bandits who shot repeatedly at her aircraft but the dogged fighter engaged her combat skills and evaded them, while successfully carrying out what she was deployed for.

It was on her return to the NAF base in Kaduna with her pass that an excited excited former Air Force Secondary School classmate saw her strolling and reversed his car to greet her, a move that proved fatal as his car pushed her down and squished part of her head.

Although she was rushed to the hospital immediately, she was pronounced dead on arrival. She was only aged 24.

Her Passion

Arotile loved to fly-that was truly one of the things she was passionate about, little wonder she aced her courses as the best flight student from the NAF Academy, which qualified her for the helicopter training she received in South Africa.

In an exclusive interview this reporter had with the deceased on October 15, 2019, after she was winged at NAF headquarters in Abuja, her passion for flying was contagious and showed none of the grueling hours and pain it took to gain her license.

Throughout my training I have always looked towards flying. The major thing I have come to realise in my field is that there is just no break in my career, you just have to keep pushing and doing your best.

“My advice to younger ones out there is that they should keep doing their best, they should keep running the race until they finish and they should not set limit for themselves because the only limit they have is the one they set for themselves,” she told THISDAY.

NAF’s Reaction

NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola said until her death, Arotile, who was commissioned into the NAF in September 2017 as a member of Nigerian Defence Academy Regular Course 64, was the first ever female combat helicopter pilot in the service.‬

He said: “During her short but impactful stay in the service, late Arotile, who hails from Iffe in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, contributed significantly to the efforts to rid the North Central States of armed bandits and other criminal elements by flying several combat missions under Operation GAMA AIKI in Minna, Niger State.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, on behalf officers, airmen, airwomen and civilian staff of the NAF, commiserates with the family of late ‪Flying Officer Arotile‬ over this irreparable loss. We pray that the Almighty God grants her soul eternal rest.”

According to the DOPRI, she has “gone too soon like a candle in the wind, and she will be greatly missed by the entire Nigerian Air Force family”.

"The CAS in his statement said he was heartbroken by the incident, just as he described her as “one of our shining young stars”.

In a statement on Wednesday, Abubakar said Arotile was “a very intelligent, disciplined, confident and courageous young officer who added value wherever she served.”

He added, “as a squadron pilot in Operation GAMA AIKI in Minna, Niger State, she flew her quota of anti-banditry combat missions to ensure a safer, more secured Nigeria.”

Condolence Messages

President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the family of the late Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile.

The president in a statement on Wednesday signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, extolled the virtues of the first female combat helicopter pilot in the history of the Nigerian Air Force.

The statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari received with deep pain the passing of Flying Officer, Tolulope Arotile, condoling with the family on loss of such a promising officer, whose short stay on earth impacted greatly on the nation, especially in peace and security.

The President salutes Arotile’s bravery in the field to protect the country from onslaught of bandits and terrorists, assuring that her memory will be indelible, and her efforts remembered.

“President Buhari commiserates with the Nigerian Air Force, airmen, airwomen and all friends of the deceased, recalling her deft skills in manoeuvring combat helicopters, which he had physically witnessed with pride.

“The President sympathises with government and people of Kogi State on the loss. President Buhari prays that the Almighty God will receive the soul of the departed, and comfort the family she left behind.”

Also mourning her was

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi

State, who described her death as

shocking and devastating.

In a condolence message by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Muhammed, Bello said the death is a national disaster, saying she was a fantastic aviator.

”It was with great sorrow and shock that I received the news about the passing of Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile, the first female combat Helicopter Pilot in the history of the Nigerian Airforce,” the statement added.

Late Flying Officer Arotile brought the country to a standstill on October 15, 2019 when she was decorated as the first female combat Helicopter Pilot. This was a huge honour to her family and state, the nation, and the entire women in the country and beyond.”

Governor Bello said the late Arotile combined professionalism and patriotism in the discharge of her duties and was instrumental to Nigeria’s fight against banditry and other criminal activities especially in the North Central region.

“We are devastated by the tragic death of this young promising lady who took bravery to the next level, demystified prejudicial stereotype and flew her parents, state and nation high in honour and professionalism,” he added.

He stated that “at the age of 23, late Arotile has woven her own story into the Nigerian Folklore as a patriot who died in defence of her nation. On behalf of the state, I commiserate with the family of late ‪Flying Officer Arotile‬ over this irreparable loss and I pray that the Almighty God grants her soul eternal rest, She will be sorely missed.”

Also condoling the family, President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, expressed shock and sadness at the tragic death.

In a statement by his Special Adviser (Media), Ola Awoniyi,

Lawan said despite her brief service, the deceased flying officer, 24, left indelible footprints as a dedicated officer and Nigeria’s first female combat helicopter pilot.

The Senate President noted the attestation of the Nigeria Airforce that Arotile flew several combat missions and made remarkable contributions to the military efforts against banditry and other criminal activities particularly in the North Central states.

Noting that Arotile was a role model for young women and the Nigerian youths in general with her focus and dedication to service and calling, he condoled with the family of the deceased, CAS, her officer colleagues, other airmen and airwomen, as well as the government and people of Kogi State.

Also, the Speaker of the House or Reps, Femi Gbajabiamila wrote on his Twitter page, “I received with great shock the death of our country’s first female combat pilot, Tolulope Arotile, I saw her months ago display her talent to the admiration of many of us at a @NigAirForce event. Indeed we have lost a great talent! My condolences to the Arotile family and N.A.F.”

NAF’s Women of War

For the first time in the history of the Armed Forces, value beyond desk jobs (manning the schools and hospitals etc) have been emplaced on its female personnel, thus breaking the mould of gender discrimination. Championing this laudable feat is the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) as it has engaged its female personnel to operational and combatant roles.

NAF had seven female pilots who have distinguished themselves in a field often seen as the exclusive preserve of their male counterparts, but with Arotile’s untimely and bizarre death, the flanks have been reduced to six.

From Flight Lieutenant Blessing Liman and Flight Lieutenant Chika Ani to Flying Officer Genevieve Nwaogwugwu, Flying Officer Olubunmi Ijelu; Flying Officer Kafayat Sanni, and Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile and Flying Officer Chinelo Nwokoye, they all play combat support roles.

These seven female pilots have proven to be a new breed of high flyers whose passion push them to soar the skies in service to nation and mankind. The feat has again reinforced the fact that their dreams remain valid as they are nurtured and also harnessed for greater heights. With Arotile’s death, things might never be the same again but soldier on they must.

Biography

Born on December 13, 1995 to the family of Mr and Mrs Akintunde Arotile in Kaduna, Arotile hails from Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

She attended Air Force Primary School, Kaduna from 2000 – 2005 and Air Force Secondary School, Kaduna from 2006 – 2011 before she later gained admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna as a member of 64 Regular Course on September 22, 2012.

Arotile was commissioned into the Nigerian Air Force as a Pilot Officer on September 16, 2017 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the Nigerian Defence Academy.

She was winged as the first ever female combat helicopter pilot in the Nigerian Air Force on October 15, 2019, after completing her flying training in South Africa.

She held a commercial pilot license and also underwent tactical flying training on the Agusta 109 Power Attack Helicopter in Italy.

Incidentally, she introduced the newly acquired Agusta 109 Power Attack Helicopter to the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, during the induction ceremony at Eagle Square in Abuja on February 6, 2020.

Before her untimely death, she made significant and outstanding contributions to the war against terrorism, armed banditry and other forms of criminality in the country, flying several combat missions.

Flying Officer Arotile joined the Nigerian Air Force out of passion for the job. In her words “I joined the military simply out of passion for it. Being a military personnel has been a long time ambition, the carriage and what it stands for are simply exceptional”.
