@ mavverick, what happen to your whatsapp? I've been trying to reach you since yesterday. |
Chekitaut:Not yet ready bro. Sorry about that. |
@ Bandwidth, The plan was to help our man fix a DPC in a house without one. And the koko be say "shingba" no dey (the client do not have much). Here's the final part of the work done to the clients little budget. This can be improved upon by introducing damp proof membrane, pouring slurry concrete inside the foundation block hollow to prevent rising damp and more. Hope this simple fix work for you. Ensure you install reinforcement no matter how small in size (8mm) it is in order to prevent crack. (Don't mind the blurry pics, they are old pics gotten from iCloud) Badore, Jan 2013

Dear Bosun,@ bandwidth, It's never too late to do your DPC. You just have to know how to do it right. Here's something from the Past. Hope it helps you address your Present issue. The large part of me is shaped by the past and present challenges. Experience made us better each day. Badore, Jan 2013

Here's a BIG one! Wrought Iron Entry Glass Door This door makes a wow in matte black finish if well crafted. I found the secret that the wrought iron design pieces comes in two (locally-made quality and foreign standard). I'm not really sure but I think Europe has more of this design elements than any other (may be wrong though). I'm presently picking up the pieces to build exactly the same door as shown below in next few weeks. Framework already completed and I've found a supplier for this pieces in Owode, Lagos. Expect a update later on this thread when I'm done. Again, the price when finished will be like 1/4 of the original market value. #PackagingStuff #SmallThingBigPicture

Kitchen Security Door Now, I'm not a fan of conventional way of doing things. A burglar proof shouldn't be a prison barrier but something to prevent authorized access into a house. 65% of my window do not have a protector and I'm living my life without fear. So I saw this steel double-door while surfing the Internet and I just fall in love with the design and showed it to my welder that I want exactly the same door. The secret is to get a thicker flat metal plate installed on grid pipes so that the door doesn't puff or bend. We went for 5mm thick plate and square rod was bent into different rings based on my design specification. Compare the result! My design is finished with less than 33k with 2 keys and locks and installation/delivery cost.

@ agarawu23, maybe this will help you understand what packaging can achieve when it's driven with passion. I can't remember all figures spent but none is up to 50% of actual market value of the original designs. Enjoy Kitchen Entry Door I saw the white door in the shop of a reputable Door Seller in Lagos and the price tag is 2,000,000NGN and I just smile. Jejely, I drove down to Omu Sawmill, Ijebu Ode and got solid mature woods and a good carpenter with my drawings and told him I'll give him extra 3k if he do exactly what I wanted. Compare the result! Not so perfect but not so bad for a door that cost less than 2% of what the door seller wanna sell me.

agarawu23:Now, you're getting it The chateau I'm flashing every now and then is just a cheap build but well packaged. Far cheaper than 99.999% of all the builds I've done on NL and outside but "I do my things my way" giving preference to priority areas. Not surprised I'm having issues with some big guys here, even my own bro. It's not been heady but just to let us know that anything is possible. Passion is what set us apart. Whatever you have passion for, you'll definitely do well at it. _______ Pic: Payloader performing the earthwork for soil stabilization the 2nd time at the chateau. All the effizzy and packaging done in the building will make no meaning if I had to wait till last minute to do the needful. So lucky to get this picture. I'm sure if I dig well I'll see the earthwork pics done prior to foundation laying.

Agarawu23, here's another openable shutter for the big boy. It opens upward with a small garage-like motorized lift and can also be manually opened. Installer unknown. Still researching though. #NearMeThings

ADAMUdaCOWBOY:Good to see professionals rising up to this challenge. What must be done to deal with this issues? |
When it comes to construction projects, all too often people start out with pretty cool 3D drawings and end up with shouting matches or - worse - avoidable lawsuits. Project may be done in wood, steel and even concrete. But a “minor” mistake, like simple omission of important structural member, can turn it into a big crack or failure of some part of not all of the building - or lead to million-naira repair. Everybody! Yes! Me, you, the government, the authorities and regulatory bodies, the professional bodies, and everybody has a fair share in this blame. The Developers: whose primary duty is to engage certified professionals as consultants but failed to do so largely due to an unhealthy profit motivation. Consultants: the so-called professionals/consultants whose duty is to advise their client on the various aspects of the project and to ensure that due process is followed during the entire project cycle but have failed to honestly advise clients on the pitfalls of shortcuts. Government: through regulatory bodies charged with the duty of enforcing by-laws and ensuring that any development meets regulatory building standards. Weak technical capacity in local authorities; problems in the development approval process; corruption are all to blame for the problems we experience. Contractor: who are expected to have the capacity and competence to undertake the specific tasks for the specified scope of works. Clients: Yes, YOU! For aiding and abetting through wrong selection. You can't claim ignorance! Manufacturers Association: For producing substandard building materials in order to stay afloat in ever competitive market. You know people prefer cheap and quantity over quality. Who do you think should be blamed for this problem? Your inputs will be highly appreciated. Recent study conducted have revealed that unqualified people carry out more than 70 percent of the development-related activities in Nigeria. At the end of this discussion, we should be able to come up with solutions construction challenges and how to address them.

Really sad situation. |
Calmwaters:I agree but the point should be that people should do the right thing. We've been hearing about the proposed 4th mainland bridge for more than a decade now yet some people still go ahead to build in the reserved areas. If people have a backing document, then they get their claims. Otherwise, they'll lest their lesson. |
hustla:We cannot put train everywhere. There's already the National Railway Lines, the States Blue Rail, the Intercity rail service so a simple link road won't be a bad idea for other road users. But you made a valid point though. |
Onegai:Check this out. It's already ongoing.
|
Calmwaters: How about the number of people that will benefit from it?If you ask me, the benefits outweighs the drawbacks. How will you feel hitting Ikorodu from Sangotedo within 25 - 30 mins without the usual Merry-go-round? |
toyetade:The Positive Change that we've been waiting for might just be somewhere around the corner. There are lots of rail projects ongoing at the moment and it is my joy to announce to you that the Lagos - Calabar which has already been awarded is also captured in the 2016 budget which means goodnews to Businesses in the South-South region. The missing piece of the puzzle is now been fixed.

THE MASTERPLAN AS SEEN Taking a closer look at the MASTERPLAN and the legend posted above, one will observe from the picture that the bridge didnt start from Ajah roundabout. It is after Abraham Adesanya roundabout and it cut off cooperative villas estate BADORE to langbasa. From cooperative villas you'll actually have a view of some part of Sangotedo (Splash, Lekki Garden 1 and Oko-Ado). The bridge seems to have happen before that area but not before LBS. So it's in between Happyland and LBS through Badore to Langbasa. Hopefully, the government will release the full details of affected communities very soon.

ALAYORMII:Those toes needs to be adviced about the development. |
AREAS TO WATCH Legend Orange - VGC Lemon - Ajah roundabout Blue - Owode/Langbasa Red - Cooperative Villas Badore Black - Lekki Scheme II This should help.
