PrimeQuay: Okay. Removing the stone will definitely require more hands involved. Sure. This is necessary if the stones are not well locked and the algae growth is coming from openings. Okay then I look forward to next week. Kindly drop your contact so I can text you.

FEGEITOK: I am a layman who reads a lot, is very inquisitive and wants to do the best that can be done with he funds that are available.
But I read up to understand what the experts are doing so I can interact intelligently with them and most importantly to ensure that I am getting the quality that I deserve at a reasonable price point.
Thanks to you guys, I know that 16mm is fine for columns (pillars) for a bungalow. Same as my builder suggested.
That the lintels should be tied together to hold the house together.
That the quality of our blocks is worrisome.
That there can be no concrete parapet unless the wall has been prepared to carry those weights.
One question though, how about pouring weak concrete into our hollow walls, does anyone do this? Is it recommended?
I am particularly concerned by the DPC stuff because I have lived in homes with rising damp and someone really close to me had a health problem from it.
Finally rising damp is one of the reasons driving my renovation project.
I am using that opportunity to fortify the building with columns(pillars) Welcome layman In theory of structure, the strength of a building lies in the column supporting the structure and not the blocks. That’s why frame structure is the acceptable standard for construction worldwide. Columns carries the load and not the blocks. So pouring slurry into the hollow blocks would only add more load to your building than strength. You might end up creating another major problem while trying to solve a simple one. As chairman of layman builders council of this forum, I’d recommend you introduce columns into critical areas of your build. Talk to your structural engineer about this ________ I’d share picture of a massive storey building that was built with 6 inches hollow block. It’s more than 2 decades old and it’s still very solid. |

FEGEITOK: Sadly, there I am still on the lookout for genuine sellers of butyl rubber, plastic sheets, bituminous felts for DPC.
Any leads will be highly appreciated. This is awesome. You definitely must be a black belt holder in construction to require this for your DPC. Let me talk to my butyl tape supplier. |

kopell: Hahaha, certificate in naija. Almost everyone as one, even those in government get all kinds you asked for, except those that are issued in heaven. Our problem is corruption a cross board. In a society where no law/rule/structure exist or people to enforce it, people would create an informal structure/government. We need structure in our lives, and we need to expect that each person will uphold his or her part of the bargain: to remain fair and respectful. In most cases, it’s not always corruption but lack of trust in the process/systems/structure/government. People do not get certificates nowadays to prove their academic capability but to secure high paying jobs. Neither do people secure building permits because they want to do things right but just to fulfill all righteousness by doing the right things the wrong way. That’s why there’s disregard for constituted authorities. People are happy to break government seal without care or worries It’s all about the system! When there are no rules, people form an informal government. |

Cantilevered Solar Shading
When we stepped into this project few months ago, we were engaged to fabricate a modern gate and nothing more.
I decided to visit the project because the client has always engaged me right from the beginning of the project but we never had the opportunity to meet.
On getting to the site, I felt very bad seeing the quality of work done by different tradespeople (nairaland artisans and others from outside) engaged on the project and I told the client “We need to do something urgently to put things back on track.”
A lot of times projects hit the brick due to bad advices clients get from the professionals we engage as consultants on our projects.
I told the client “We are not firing any of the guys but I’d work with them to help them tidy up lose ends on the project.” Though fraught with lots of issues, disappointments and avoidable errors, this single project has won me Ilé Ode 2, Oshodi Church Makeover project, upcoming 30 rooms hotel, and lots of other projects within the estate.
Special thanks once again to our esteemed client for the opportunity to be of service to you and for entrusting us with your project completely despite the dramas that go on here.
You inspire us to do more. Happiness is a choice.

Jasobry: The below was given to me. Please advise
If you are providing materials,. Workmanship per sqm=1,500×197=#295,500 _________________________
Needed materials :
1) 3'8 chippings =25 tons
2) sharp sand 8 trips
3) cement = 65 bags
4) release = 1 bag
5) 3" range pole = 6
6) water
7) Iron rod 10mm
color hardner = 14 bags This is for stamped concrete. What thickness are you considering? If 3 inches, the materials is too much. You’ll be better off with a wire mesh than 10mm for reinforcement. I’m sorry I didn’t respond to your pm. I was very busy last weekend. |

Someone should advice. Size is 180 sqms Go for interlocking if you’re considering cost. |

Pressure washing might be the best option. I’m sure it might be more efficient that pouring chemicals and brushing manually.

hslbroker2: Grab a brush and some baking soda. Bicarbonate, the active ingredient in baking soda, is an effective spot treatment to help kill the algae and loosen it from the floor and the fence.
Make sure you really get every last particle free; black algae has particularly long and stubborn roots which makes it a persistent strand.
This will help you.
But i know the bosses in the house may also have other solutions to this particular problem. I did one recently in one of my big bro’s house. We removed the interlock stones, pressure wash them and lay them back. I’ll see if I can share video of the cleanings process.
