DUNKA: please which is better one (1) 10,000 liter water tank or two (2) 5,000 liter tanks supposing space is not an constraint. I’ll do two (2) 5,000 liters tank instead of a single 10,000 liters. The time it takes to fill up a 10000 liter is more and the risk of failure is higher. |

diordaves: Of all the structures na this one be house that is a HOME. The kerb appeal is warm, well crafted, sincere and full of character that will stand the test of time like a good evergreen song wey no dey fade. Reminds me so much of Ikoyi colonial houses.
The others are just lazy, brutalist and cold commercial disposition masquerading as a home with absolutely no character that will stand the test of time.

Ok.. How can I guarantee the durability and capability of the stone dust block, these manufacturers seems not to be trust worthy...
Boss Pls recommend I’ll make contact with some of the guys that supply our projects (Government Residential schemes) in Abeokuta and revert. They make blocks to specification |

Erums: OH my God.. I already purchased 30tonne granite on site... I wasnt informed of the option of stone dust block, because i would have loved to bypass the wahala that comes with erecting columns.. This is all just for the parapet.....
What can be done now? You can still use the granite for the foundation work. You’ll also need it for other concrete works in the house - lintels and beams - septic tank and inspection chambers - fence work - gate columns - compound flooring Cavity wall is the wall that divide your flats. |

Erums: It's a bungalow... A twin flat, 3bedroom & 2bedrrom...
Again, I plan to do parapet on it... Whats the minimum amount of columns I can have? You’ll need up to 200 bags for a twin flat. Introduce columns at every corner of the house and the cavity wall. That should be about 12 columns. You can share your building plan though for assessment and recommendation. Considering the rising cost of building materials, I’d suggest you do precast parapet to save on cost and achiever something good on low budget. Since you’re building in Abeokuta, get good Sandcrete block (100% stonedust) and forget about having columns. Ensure your external walls are 9inches block in case you want to go cheap on blocks. |

sgtponzihater1: Nice one. How did that go. Did they build the cabinets, and import for it to be assembled by Nigerians? That’s exactly what we did. I sent them the as-built floor plan. They designed the cabinets and shared the cabinet plan with me and the client. We approved and the cabinets were shipped down to Nigeria and assembled by locals. Everything came with assembly instruction. |

Erums: Veterans in the house, goodmorning sir,
With the price of cement, I was suppose to commenced my project next, all materials on ground except cement...
Whats your best advice, shiuld I proceed and get cement at this price? Should I pend the project?
Are we expecting any decrease in prices in few weeks?
Pls advice...
Im currently having a vendor who sells for 3500,
Would it be wise to get like 150bags and store it for use?
Please advice Buy and think of other areas to save cost. Nigeria is on autopilot. Don’t expect any price fall on any of the building materials happening. I don’t blame those who hike the prices. I blame the incompetent people at the helm of power. Wishing you goodluck in your project. ________ If you project is a bungalow, 150 bags of cement will take you far. If it’s a duplex, buy up to 250 bags that can take you up to the first floor slab level. Once again, think of ways to cut down your cost without compromising quality. |

uncleteeh: Well, you are right partially. But budget too is a great determinant of an excellent design. Most clients work on low budget, some just wanna escape the rigour of being tenants. The country is just not encouraging nor helping any sector. None the less, change is essential. I agree completely that clients determine our design principles BUT we need to steward them towards modernity and functionality. House shouldn’t just be a four wall. Our designs should have empathy for our users if we want to retain and attract new clients. So Im not always afraid to infuse new patterns when legacy patterns aren’t working well regardless of who the client is (kobokobo or trilliontrillion). |

bobkezel: Be laughing me na. You don't know things are hard. I’m actually not laughing. I understand the situation around but don’t get intimidated by the big stuffs you see out there. You can actually achieve something similar on a low budget build. If you can’t afford EBM or Transom, you can go for grey imported aluminum and achieve almost the same look on a low budget. _________ Let me give you an example. Pic 1 - This was supposed to be the look of my office. Pic 2 - I know the reality didn’t match my dream so I decided to remodel it into something with a modern feel Pic 3&4 - The difference is in the design. The burglar proof gate and the sliding glass door installed cost almost the same amount as the white door and the window I installed. Good design is not always about cost. It is in how good a designer is. ______ I know some folk will like the before pics to the after images. This is just for me
