The Police have arrested a suspect over the murder of Emmanuel Uche, a final-year student of the Abia State University (ABSU).

Uche was relentlessly chased and shot dead by suspected cultists in March 2024.

A Disturbing Video of the incident showed the victim desperately trying to escape as he crawled through an untarred road before his killers caught up with him.

Uche stood up and tried to flee but was shot dead by one of the attackers.

Spokesperson of Abia State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, April 18, 2024, said the suspect, Emmanuel Victor, has confessed to the crime.

“On 11/3/2024, a viral video surfaced depicting the murder of Emmanuel Uche, a 500-level student of Abia State University, in front of Miracle Lodge, Uturu,” the statement read.

"Acting on credible intelligence, today 18/4/2024, at about 1100hrs, a team of police detectives from Abia State Police Command, apprehended the principal suspect at Isiukwuato who was captured in the viral video committing the murder of Emmanuel Uche at Miracle Lodge, Abia State University, Uturu.

“The Suspect, Identified As Emmanuel Victor, has confessed to the crime. He is currently in lawful custody and will be charged to court.”

What Is Really Happening Inside Our Onitsha

The Anambra State Government has arrested a 40-year-old man, Anietie Tim, who allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl.

The State Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Hon Ify Obinabo, who made this known in a statement on Thursday, April 18, 2024, said the suspect was arrested in Onitsha after several failed attempts.

The Statement signed by Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, the media aide to the commissioner, said the incident happened in 2022 after which the suspect has been evading arrest through the help of some military personnel at the Barrack where he lives.

It was further gathered that the suspect had on different occasions threatened the mother of his victim, claiming to be untouchable.

According to the statement, Mr. Tim claimed he never knew his victim was a minor, adding that she was the one that tempted him.

“This she was able to achieve through a radio presenter resident in Onitsha Francis Pember, who volunteered to help after he was intimated of the incident,” the statement read.

"The suspect, Anietie Tim, from Eninan AkwaIbom in his defense said he never knew his victim was an under age and went further to say that she was the one that tempted him and he responded because he's a man with blood flowing through his veins.

"Mr Tim also explained that before the incident, he was already befriending his 14 Year old victim, who, according to him, was always starved at home.

"On his part, the On Air Personality Mr Francis, thanked the state government for always fighting for the vulnerable people in the state and stated that he's rest assured that the ministry will not let the suspect go free.

"The Women Affairs Commissioner, Obinabo after questioning the suspect directed that he be handed over to the police as he will be appearing before the Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Magistrate court in Awka to answer for his crime.

“It is important to note that the incident happened in 2022 after which the suspect has been evading arrest through the help of some military personnel at the Barrack where he lives and he had on different occasions threatened the mother of his victim claiming to be untouchable.”

A Woman has allegedly abducted a 5-year-old child at Oku Obom village in Obot-Akara Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

According to the victim's aunt, Emem Emmanuel, the incident happened on Monday, April 15, 2024.

She claimed that the suspect works at a brothel in the village.

Why Dumping Poor Baby, This Is Wickedness

A day-old baby boy abandoned in a polythene bag has been rescued at Alhaji Masha Road, in the Surulere area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that a yet-to-be-identified social worker attached to a hospital in Surulere, while on her way to a destination, heard the sound of a crying baby emanating from the polythene bag.

Upon observing what was in the polytene bag, the social worker saw the baby boy and quickly rushed him to the Randle General Hospital for quick medical intervention.

It was learnt that the baby had been responding to treatment. Our correspondent learnt that the Divisional Police Officer and a team from the family support unit visited the scene of the incident.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident.

He said, “The case of the day-old baby abandoned by unknown persons in a polythene bag was reported at the Surulere Division on April 15, 2024, around 1:40pm, by the social worker.

“The baby has been rescued and is responding to treatment. The Divisional Police Officer and a team from the family support unit visited the scene of the incident. The investigation is in progress.”

PUNCH Metro reported that a day-old baby was found in a carton and placed at a spot in Zone ‘B’ Area in Dagbolu, Osun State in December 2023.

This was as the state government urged residents to volunteer information that would enable it to identify the parents of the baby.
