Man allegedly beats his girlfriend to stupor in Delta for refusing to abort pregnancy

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a 32-year-old man, Ernest Okemute, for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend in the Orokpor community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

A Nigerian activist, Kelvin Ejumudo, who confirmed the incident in a Facebook post on Sunday, April 21, 2024, alleged that the suspect beat Precious Ekarume who is pregnant for him, with a belt and stick because she refused to abort the pregnancy.

According to Mr Ejumudo, the suspect had boasted that nothing would happen to him even if he killed his girlfriend.

“Violence against women is Prohibited! One Mr Ernest Okemute 32 years old has beaten his girlfriend, Miss Precious Ekarume in Orokpor community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta state.”

The boyfriend beat her up because she was pregnant for him and he has forced her to abort the pregnancy and she refused and has also told her to stop talking with a woman in the compound.

She was beaten to stupor by the boyfriend with belt and stick and told her nothing will happen even if he kills her.

The lady was able to reach out to me via the help of community leaders and I immediately swing into action with the help of the Area commander Ughelli Nigeria Police Force Delta State Command ACP ADEMOLA ADEBAYOR who detailed police officers for his arrest.

Mr Ernest Okemute is cooling off at the Police cell in Ughelli Area command and will be charged to court soonest. We have a law in Delta state called Violence Against persons act 2022,hence nobody has the monopoly of violence on any other person within the State.

Oh My God 😧, Mr Blogger Is Heart Broken

A middle-aged woman identified as Victoria Idowu reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in the Magboro area of Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State on Sunday.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this to PUNCH Online in a WhatsApp conversation on Sunday.

According to Odutola, the son of the deceased raised the alarm after returning from a church service and finding his mother reportedly hanged with a rope from the ceiling fan in her room.

She added that upon receiving the report, police officers from the Ibafo Division visited the scene where the body of the deceased was found.

She further disclosed that when the room was searched, no suicide note was found.

Odutola stated, “According to the son, he came back from the church at about 1530 hours and discovered that his mother, one Mrs Idowu Victoria, ‘F’, aged 49 years of the same address, had committed suicide by hanging herself on the ceiling fan inside her room.

“The DPO immediately drafted men to the scene. No suicide note was found.”

The PPRO disclosed further that an investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances behind the incident.

She, however, urged members of the public to always provide support to their loved ones who may be suffering from mental health challenges.

“Meanwhile, the investigation is still ongoing to unravel the circumstances behind the sad incident. Suicide is unlawful.

“Sufferers of mental health need more support from family members to prevent such fatality,” she concluded.

PUNCH Online reported on February 6 that a 400-level female student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Adaze Jaja, reportedly committed suicide.

Odutola confirmed that the 31-year-old died in a hotel room.

Odutola said Jaja was reported to have been found lying unconscious and foaming at the mouth with an empty bottle of insecticide beside her.
