Police Operatives Serving In Abakaliki (AI) Road Police Division Of The Enugu State Command on April 10 arrested one Mmaduabuchi Okonkwo, 24, of Mkpologu, Emene, Enugu, at the Old IMT Bus Stop, Abakaliki Road, Enugu.

The Suspect's arrest is the sequel to his alleged possession and transaction of counterfeited Naira notes. A total of forty thousand Naira (₦40,000.00) suspected counterfeited one thousand denominated Naira notes were recovered from him.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect boarded a minibus from New Haven Junction to Old IMT Bus Stop, Enugu, and gave the driver one of the counterfeited notes. The driver, however, scrutinized and observed that the currency was fake, thereby raising an alarm that led to the suspect's arrest.

Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to having paid the sum of twenty-five thousand (₦25,000.00) genuine Naira notes to his cohort at large for the counterfeited Naira notes worth fifty thousand Naira (₦50,000.00)

He further confessed to having spent ten thousand Naira (₦10,000.00) out of the fake notes, remaining the forty thousand Naira (₦40,000.00) that was recovered from him.

Confirming his arrest, the spokesperson of the command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, says the suspect will be arraigned and prosecuted once investigations are concluded.

The Yola Town Market was in the early hours of Monday gutted by fire, destroying many shops as traders count their losses at the market at Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The State’s Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta who was at the scene of the incident Monday morning, assured that government was yet to ascertain the cause of the inferno and pledged to support the affected traders.

Farauta said, although the exact number of affected traders are yet to be determined, government would do everything possible to provided succour for them

“We are here to commiserate with our brothers and sisters who have been affected by this fire incident.

“Government would look into what has happened as the source of the fire and number of shops burnt shops is yet to be ascertained now,” the deputy governor said.

She asked the traders to take the colossal loss in good faith as no life was lost.

The Deputy Governor also urged the traders to allow access roads when building shops in case of fire incident.

Leader of the traders, Umar Abubakar, appealed to the government to support them, stating that many traders have been thrown out of business due to the fire disaster.

Abubakar disclosed that the fire started by 2am and took many unawares as traders were asleep at the time of the incident.

One of the affected traders, Saidu Musa said the intensity of the inferno was such that nothing could be salvaged from his shop.

The District Head of Yola town, Alhaji Zubairu Mustapha, thanked the state government for identifying with the traders over the sad incident.
