the sad thing is, there is something that can be done about it.
i know. it can be done but when you have rulers who don't do their job to make sure their citiznes are okay, sometimes you can't do nothing. you people make it and some don't

Kobojunkie:
I know it is possible to be poor and happy/content. I have spent some years there myself and I believe that experience was needed. I questioned @Carole's post cause I did not understand the significance of such on this particular thread. I mean if this topic were, say, in religion forum, I would not see much reason to question her for posting that but this just does not seem the right thread for such a response.
oh okay but who's carole, do you mean cayon?
PoliticsRe: More Than Half Of Nigerians Are Poor - Jonathan by naijadiva2(f): 3:30am On Jul 27, 2008
you guys are making it seem like i'm all for proverty and i'm not.

Cayon:
Inlife you are either rich or poor. no harm in that. However, you can be poor yet happy and content
i was refering to this person's post, you can be poor and still be happy. some poor people are even happier than those that have money. people that have money are hardly content with what they have. they want new this, new that, but i poor person wiil even be happy if they own only one pair of shoes even if the shoe doesn't fit. that's all i'm saying.
PoliticsRe: More Than Half Of Nigerians Are Poor - Jonathan by naijadiva2(f): 3:05am On Jul 27, 2008
Kobojunkie:
hhhmm, so it is ok that Nigeria is a nation ravaged with over 70% poverty. All these Nigerians have to do is learn to be content and happy while they watch their children die of hunger and curable diseases?
i didn't say its okay to live in proverty. no one wants to live in proverty. i'm just saying, if there's nothing you can do about your situation, you shouldn't focus all your energy on the negative cuz all it leads to is depression and doesn't change anything.

Kobojunkie:
Are you in anyway saying the poor people in NIgeria ought to spend their time trying to be happy and content in their situation?
well if there's nothing you can do about it, then you are gonna have to try to be happy and content with what you have.

it's the most commonly encountered example, so like duh i expected you to figure it out. why else did i put them in quotes.
the quotes were examples to what you were saying and not to what i was saying. but whatever i get it.

and you and your friends brought the whole timid vs. outspoken jargon into the discussion. as if being outspoken proves that you are better off in the long run. hiss!
never claimed it

p.s. spanking works, i suggest you practice it with your children. my 2cents
i know spanking works. *wonders how this fits into this conversation* shoot, when i see a misbehaved child i want' to spank them myself.
CultureRe: Dear Yorubas, What Happened? by naijadiva2(f): 8:21pm On Jul 25, 2008
i gave you an example but you have a hard time accepting it
well next time you give an example how about you mention that it is an example

i gave you an example but you have a hard time accepting it. it is easy to say nigerian kids are timid, but when you are faced with the argument that outspoken american kids are worse you begin acting like i'm being unfair. you keep throwing out this meaningless subject of american kids having more of a say of what they like . . . where are you getting that from? i can show respect to my parents and still speak my mind if i have to. you have to understand when and how to put that into practice. "whatever mom i don't have to listen to you" is a stupid form of a say if you ask me. it's no wonder people think it's more difficult to punish your kids here. you american kids get way too much protection from the law. sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. but what do i know?
you're the one that's bringing respect and bad mouthing into this, 2 of which i never mentioned. true, you can speak your mind and show respect at the same time. but that's not what i was talking about right now.

yea if you're living a lie.
yea keep thinking the way you do, that's why certain people never move on.
CultureRe: Dear Yorubas, What Happened? by naijadiva2(f): 8:02pm On Jul 25, 2008
you are just farting from your nose.  how did you come to the conclusion that most of the time when they speak back they are not being rude?   when i see children at grocery stores and the likes screaming "whatever mom" , "you are just being a bitch mom", "mom you are such an asshole", how is that not disrespectful?  continue turning a blind eye to these american punks you call outspoken children.
when i said speaking your mind it doesn't mean cursing at your parents. i never said that a child can say "whatever" to his or her parents so you need to stop putting words in my mouth. american kids have more of a say of what they like, whether it happens their way or not. nigerian parents hardly let their children express themselves that's why when the child gets older and starts to acting up, the parents all of a sudden act surprise.

at least they usually turn out more successful than their black counterparts
who cares? why does everything have to end up being about race with you people. black is black.

@Dis Guy, thank you, jare. Culture coo, torture nee. That's why an average Nigerian kid cannot be compared to an average American kid. Nigerian kids grow up . . .what's the word?. . .timid(worse than that) all in the name of culture. They can be book-smart but not street-smart. What do u expect when you're flogged like an animal over petty things. When they get old, they feel like they lost out on childhood fun and that's when drama starts! Hahaha.
that's the same thing that i try to explain to some nigerian parents. you compare an average american kid to an average nigerian kid born in america, you can definitely see the difference in their behavior. american kids can speak their mind which to some who are not american might consider rude. sometimes they are but most of the time they are not.

When they get old, they feel like they lost out on childhood fun and that's when drama starts! Hahaha.
so so true. i went to school with a lot africans but mostly nigerians and i can truly say that once they hit high school, the drama surely begins. some of the friends i started high school with ended up somewhere else(either back in africa or to live with a "strict" relative in another part of the country) by the time i graduated because their parents thought that they were "getting out of control" only because they wanted to do after school activities or just do fun things. most of the parents think all you need is to read books and not have fun and that's not good. everything has to be balanced. period.

i saw the dvd in this african store and i read the back and apparently the movie had nothing to do with beyounce and rihanna. i think it's about some talent show or something like that. (didn't read it word to word, just skim through it)
Foreign AffairsRe: Why Is Fox News Out To Paint Obama "black"? by naijadiva2(f): 5:38am On Jul 25, 2008
it doesn't even matter because obama is doing his thing. everyone's on his back trying to make him look bad but he's always ahead of them. when hilary was running, she wouldn't leave the guy alone, now what, he's the nominee and she's not. mccain's focus all his energy in talking about obama instead about himself and now he's complaining that obama is getting more attention than him and that its not fair.

TravelRe: Why Do Most Nigerians Abroad Feel Too Big (important)when They Come Here! by naijadiva2(f): 6:59pm On Jul 21, 2008
TCUBE:
ask yourself, how do u behave when someone comes from abroad? i should feel important because I am and by the way, be yourself and stop acting like beggers when someone comes from abroad, that way, they wouldnt walk all over you.
ok, a little harsh but anyways, sometimes i don't think they act like beggers but they don't expect you to be cheap when you give them a gift. i see how some africans here pack cookies and candies to take back home and expect nigerians to be excited about it. personally, i'll be offended cuz its like you're saying that i don't have anything so i should take what i see and be grateful with it.

there are some however that will ask for some outrageous things like i had uncles that will ask my mom to buy them a brand new laptop or car, seriously, money doesn't grow on trees. with all the media, they protray people from abroad to have large sums of money off the back and to be giving it away like its nothing.

i think its important for parents to teach their lanaguage to their children. i just think its sad when (africans) parents don't just so that their children can be "americanized".

I'm not mad at Rhianna at all for saying it was rough, is it any different to what the average Nigerian harps on about Nigeria after returning from a trip? If it was true, I don't blame her for saying it. I myself never used tap water to brush my teeth while in Nigeria, I used bottled water to do so, for two months!
Rather than criticise people for seeing the bad side to Nigeria that we all see when we visit, I wait for the day when they will have no CAUSE to say anything negative about Nigeria.

This time, Rhianna went to Abuja, I'm sure her impression will have changed.
using bottled water was time consuming for me, after day 1, i was like bump this and i used the tap water and was perfectly fine.

Actually it was all over the internet and also on that BET music show. I assume people who have over 120,000 naira for a ticket to such concert would also be able to afford internet access
and how many people worldwide have BET? Bet can't even satisfy their ameican viewers not to talk of international. and all over the internet doesn't make it gobal or top news. if you're not looking for it, you're not going to see. nigerians got the info through nigerian sites/blog. so a mexican or russian would not be aware of this unless they are looking for nigerian info and happened to run into "rihanna in nigeria" blog.

Are you getting what you body needs? How is your sleep pattern like? These are questions that must be answered before we jump into giving you any advise on what type of foods to do. But basicaly a diet high on carbonhyrates, like Sugar drinks, starchy foods like Rice pasta and fast foods like cakes, ice creams are good to add weight on but be warned that being fat is asking for health related problems so be CAREFUL. so you should be able to answer so of these questions as outline above.
first of all, if she want's to gain weight, she shouldn't eat all that junk that you listed and its unhealthy. there's other healthy ways to gain weight.

second of all (this should have been #1: you are not a nutritionist and your whole business is a scam. (claiming to be a travel agent in the travel section.) I swear, people these days have no shame.

What about the exasperatingly ubiquitous (and egregiously disphonious) "aiight" which is meant to mean "all right"?

Or, the excruciating misuse of the word "ghetto" to suggest that which is indicative of a compromised socio-economic sensibility? (Example: We don't have Internet where I work--we're ghetto!"wink

AND, one of my personal pet peeves: The failure to conjugate the verb "to be" properly! Why do people say, "We be driving to the mall" when they mean "We are driving to the mall"?
you're right. i must admit i do catch myself speaking like that because pretty much everyone around me speaks likes that so when i'm talking to them, it just comes out. but some will try to argue and say it's the black language (African American Vernacular English (AAVE). in the '90s , they (i guess some group of random people) even tried to have it recgonized as a language/dialect.
