31st March 2001 - (AM) We noted that CPC deleted the material from their official e-channels (facebook, website, twitter). This was done without notice to Bluelabs as was in accordance with the letters prepared by our lawyers and is viewed as an attempt to dispose of evidence.

@Beaf

I understand what you mean, sincerely i thot about that too, as in why tell you enemy where he is failing, but I feel the election is in the bag already for GEJ. Even if they start massive sensitisation now, they lack the structure to penetrate the key rural areas.

@ujujoan

Before you start the usual NL style of veiled or open abuse may be you need to read my post again and understand.

 If the name PDP,ACN,CPC is not written on the ballot papers,how many literate voters will be able to locate the party they intend to vote for by identifying the corresponding symbol/logo? When you answer this question you will be able to appreciate what will happen to illitrate voters in rural areas who will depend wholly on the symbols.

@londoner
thanx. you said it all.

i thought the CPC logo was a light blue canvass with an inscription of CPC in black - hence this makes theory invalid , knowing what the logo is not - i say, is not relevant - therefore i am guessing that many would looking for the word CPC or the name Buhari which i believe is well known around the country
So how many people for kaura namoda,katsina ala, gombe,kabba,ikot epkene sabi that one na?

I have brought this out to show that a lot of Buhari's rural supporters will vote "wrongly" on election day.

If you had said illiterate fans dont know the CPC logo then your post would have made sense but saying the literates are ignorant of the the CPC logo is a lie and an insult to anyone you call a Literate Person
I hope you know what you are talking about? My theory is hinged on the thinking that a large proportion of rural/illitrate voters will have to be properly enlightened on how their "love" for Buhari translates into votes for him. In election periods like this its taken for granted that the party Logo has been made visible enough that the average literate voter knows it anywhere. In this case of CPC at least at the moment it is not so. When ACN started there was a sustained publicity of the "broom" so that street support can translate to votes.

efisher:
Very few have even seen the logo. To make matters worse, majority who have seen the logo have no idea about what the logo represents! What message is the logo passing across? Take a look at parties like ACN and PDP. You do not need a pastor to preach any sermon about what the logo represents. But CPC ?!
The logo is a pen that actually looks more like a Dagger(bugashi/jihad) grin grin grin

It appears these BB fans know little about the determinants of electoral victory at the national level. I have interviewed literate BB fans in lagos and shockingly discovered that 80% of these fans dont even know the party logo. So wetin go happen for rural area now? kai it appears we will have 2 presidents after april 9; One  for the internet which of course will be BB, while the actual president on ground will be GEJ.

PoliticsRe: Jonathan Score Card by naso2(m): 5:14pm On Mar 31, 2011
oolumide:
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a centrist, non-ideological “rally” has dominated Nigerian democracy since 1999. Having controlled the presidency, National Assembly and most state governorships and legislative houses for 12 years, it often has not acted as if it fully appreciates the weight of its moral and political responsibility! PDP can claim to be the party of national unity (evidently the bonds of power and money are deeper than tribe, tongue and faith!), economic reform and international acceptance. In the South-South, North-Central and South-East, PDP is the default party, and in the North, it is often the party of the mainstream establishment.

Ex-President Obasanjo reformed telecommunications; negotiated Nigeria’s re-acceptance into the international community and restored a sense of nationhood that dangerously tethered on the edge during Abacha’s days of terror. In his second term, Obasanjo assembled a strong economic team leading to the elimination of Nigerian foreign debt; pension reforms; banking consolidation; macroeconomic stability and strong fiscal management. He was less successful on social reforms with education, health and social infrastructure remaining sub-optimal and poverty endemic. Even though he eventually developed the right template for power sector reforms (Electric Power Sector Reform Act 2005), Obasanjo failed in its implementation. Umaru Yar’adua’s tenure recorded only one major achievement-the Niger-Delta amnesty.

The PDP’s greatest failings are the quality of democratic practice, shameful elections conducted in 2003 and 2007 and deepening of corruption in Nigeria. Fortunately for the party, its opponents cannot claim substantive qualitative difference as politicians cross from party to party opportunistically such that sensible voters have now learnt to evaluate candidates for political office on the basis of individual assessments. When President Goodluck Jonathan became substantive president in May 2010, just 10 months ago, I wrote “Memo to Goodluck Jonathan” in which I argued (consistent with opinions expressed by other commentators and newspaper editorials) that given the short time at his disposal, he should concentrate on limited priorities-power, electoral reform and Niger-Delta. On each of these, the president scores an A!

He unveiled an excellent power sector road map designed to place the sector under private sector ownership and management; and executed it leading to expressions of interest from over 331 credible local and international investors. I will personally like Jonathan and Professor Barth Nnaji to conclude the implementation of this road map!!! Especially as his main opponents do not seem to understand what is required to reform the sector. In the short term, power production has reportedly risen to 4,000 MW. Current oil production figures of 2.6million barrels per day are a clear indicator of success of Jonathan’s Niger-Delta policy, (in spite of the activities of a strange “MEND” whose strategic objectives seem to tally with those of the “Northern Political Leaders Forum” (NPLF) rather than the Niger-Delta!!!) Jonathan appointed Professor Attahiru Jega INEC chairman and has conducted fairly credible elections in Anambra (where PDP lost) and Delta States. He provided every funding requested by INEC and freed up the political space, including by restoring ACN candidate Nuhu Ribadu’s AIG rank and permitting him and Nasir El-Rufai return from exile.

I do not know the point at which public opinion (or mass hysteria?) evolved into expecting Jonathan to solve in ten months all the problems of the Nigerian state accumulated over 5o years of independence, a clearly irrational expectation!!! But surprisingly Jonathan has recorded other successes. Education-new national secondary curriculum; highest budgetary allocation for education in 2011 budget proposals; a policy of establishing centres for entrepreneurial development in all federal universities; “Almajiri” education policy; and establishment of nine new federal universities; transportation-revival of rail systems; upgrading the Enugu airport to international status; achieving total radar coverage and US Category 3 status permitting resumption of direct flights; new terminal building at Aminu Kano Airport Kano; labour-new minimum wage and constitutional amendment on National Industrial Court.

Gas and Energy-”gas revolution” policy framework for leveraging gas for industrialisation; $3bn Oando/AGIP gas processing plant; petrochemical plant and several fertiliser plants in conjunction with foreign investors; refineries reportedly working at capacity and absence of fuel queues; roads-multiple ongoing road projects, including East-West and Coastal Road; citizens engagement on Facebook and proactive actions to rescue Nigerians in Egypt and Libya; revival of textile sector through government support; several industrial intervention funds for aviation, SMEs, entertainment, manufacturing, power etc; foreign policy-sensible diplomatic posture leading to strong roles in ECOWAS, UN and bilateral relations. Despite permutations, he united the PDP behind him trouncing the formidable Atiku Abubakar during the party’s primaries. In spite of severe provocations, he successfully navigated minefields during the Yar’adua vacuum and thereafter. He may yet deliver on important legislations-Sovereign Wealth Fund, Freedom of Information, and Petroleum Industry Bills and has already passed AMCON, minimum wage and money laundering/anti-terrorism bills.

Jonathan can claim to be the candidate of national unity, a federation of co-equal nationalities and national integration, freedom and openness, power sector reform, education and critical infrastructure. His major weakness is his party, but in spite of that, I think he is the sensible choice in these elections! I score him 7 for personal qualities; 6 on vision and leadership; 7 for policy platform and manifesto; 6 on economic management; 4 on anti-corruption; 8 for international relations; 8 on national unity and stability; 8 on democracy and institution-building; 7 for human rights, press freedom and open society; 6 for administration and execution and 6 bonus marks for his running-mate totalling 73 out of a possible 110 marks.

WHAT IS YOUR VIEW?
Lets here from the die-hard critics. Jonathan has performed well above average in his one year as presido.

It is instructive that you are responding to a post on abusive language by using the very same abusive language  grin

Is it that their minds have been violated or that the minds of the PDP supporters have been so violated that they have now come to accept rubbish as standard. PDP has so bastardised the populace that we have almost come to even accept rigging as part of elections. Some would ask that, what will happen if you vote, so therefore why vote?

You refer to Buhari as fanatical, can you please give me the pointers that make you refer to him as such. The ones I can remember are:
1. He fanatically supports good for the common man. Common man in Kano or common man in the entire Nigeria?

2. He fanatically opposes corruption. Yes like the corruption by the ABACHAS, hence he is rewarding the family with a governorship ticket afterall, some of the campaign funds are coming from Mohammed abacha, Yes corruption but was probably asleep when there was massive corruption in PTF that made one of the key officers commit suicide when PTF books where audited.

3. He fanatically preaches integrity and diligence. He preaches integrity but said in 2008 memorial service for sanni abacha that the corruption claims on abacha were mere fabrications.

4. He fanatically supported democracy once he decided to embrace it. Kindly tell me when he finally woke up to embrace it? at the age of 50? 60?.  O yes i remember he was in support of abacha kind of democracy when all political parties adopted abacha. " five fingers of a leprous hand".Tell me what Buhari as the honourable you claim did when abacha was morking democracy.  Kindly explain why in 20 months as HEAD OF STATE , there was no plan whatsoever to return us to democratic rule. Oh Sorry i remember he decided to embrace it when the PTF purse dried up and he decided to go for the bigger pie(presidency) in 2003

5. He fanatically believes that Nigeria can be great. And so?
If you have some others forms of fanatism that he displays, I would appreciate that you list them out. Otherwise, stop blowing smoke.

lekwas:
In 1998, precisely on the 14th of June Pastor Bakare preached a message where he said the person that will rule Nigeria after the Abdusalam led transition government will be a Cyrus with the heart of David, a tender shoot from the side of the North. I don't know if anybody on this forum listened to that message and if we can get the full text of that message on this thread.
I had cause to review the thought of that message in the last few days and seeing that Pastor Bakare is Buhari's running mate, the question that came to my hear is: Is Buhari that tender shoot from the side of the north?'

This is the closest excerpt i got from that message:

Following General Abubakar's appointment as the Head of State after the death of General Abacha, Pastor. Bakare declared to the nation. Thus saith the Lord; "Abubakar is Saul". According to him, " if General Abubakar will yield to God and serve according to the will of God, he will become the midwife who will be instrument to the birth of David. Through him, a new nation will emerge. But if he has the fear of death and continues as he has said with programme of General Abacha, he will fall with his Armour bearers".
It will be good if we can go back in time to listen to that message and review it for this season.

See story. hmmmmmmm . tales by moonlight. I expect to see denials as from tomorrow---- Obj will first respond with " i dey laugh", later bakare will dissociate himself from the story. . . . on and on it will go.

Just in case the story is true, it on one part presents buhari as a "stronghead" leader which could be argued for or against him. But my thought is Buhari probably deemed sheding the religious/sharia weight more expedient than pairing with a better groomed technocrat. He simply values what a pastor can do to his image better than what a proven technocrat can do in his govt for Nigerians.

So I challenge you Beaf to a debate. What do you have against Buhari and Bakare, and would you and other in the GEJ train not vote for these two men who are leading virtually every pole on the internet. Do you want to continue in a nation like this or do you want change? Another thing do convince us that you are not paid from Aso Rock.
I am also an unrepentant GEJ supporter and nothing annoys me more than this lame blackmail that GEJ supporters are paid. If we call it a democracy then people must be allowed to make their choices, but what you see most BB fans try to say here is "We have chosen BB, and why must you choose GEJ, its either you have been paid or you are foolish" and I see this as very weak approach to get people to your side.
