The Nigeria Shippers Council (NSC) has said over 75 per cent of the exported farm products are from Jigawa State.

Director of the Nigeria Shippers Council North-West Zone, Abubakar Sadiq Bashir, stated this during a one-day seminar with the theme: “Export of agricultural commodities from the hinterland, producers, documentation, and challenges”, organized by the zonal directorate, Kano, held in Dutse.

He stated that Jigawa produces much of the farm products that can be exported to other countries.

Bashir said some of the major products included sesame seeds and hibiscus, among other exported goods approved by the Federal Government.

He said the major problem is processing the products to the best standard and exporting them.

He said NSC has commenced an enlightenment campaign to create more awareness on processing and exporting farm products to other countries.

Managing Director of Dala Inland Dry Port, Hon. Ahmad Rabiu, said a warehouse will be established in various local governments in the state to ease the export process.

He said a warehouse would be established in Dutse, Maigatari, and Gujungu, among other local governments, to be used for export.

Earlier in his remarks, the Jigawa State Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, Aminu Kanta Babura, commended and appreciated the efforts of the council to bring opportunities to the state.

Governor Abba Commends Good Samaritan for Refunding Late Father’s Salary Backlog

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, today received Yusuf Sulaiman Sumaila, a young man who returned his late father’s salary backlog to the State Government.

Yusuf stated that the state government had continued paying his late father’s salary (Sule Dattijo Sumaila, SOSA '85) into his account after his death in October 2022 until August 2023, when he made an official request for the payment to be stopped.

To the governor’s satisfaction, Yusuf also requested to return the backlog of 328,115.75 to the government, and for which the governor personally invited him to his office to thank him.

Remarking, the governor commended Yusuf for his remarkable gesture, urging other young people to emulate him and uphold the value of honesty.

Following the development, all Kano State indigenes studying regular courses at the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil: Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano: Sa'adatu Rimi University of Education, Kumbotso: Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta and other state-owed tertiary institutions are to enjoy the total relief of 50% reduction in the registration fee for the 2023/2024 academic session. Reacting to the gesture, the Chairman of the ACF, Dr Goni Farouk Umar described the decision as both revolutionary and a hallmark of visionary leadership. He noted with delight the Kano State government's resolve to restore its foreign scholarship programme designed to sponsor 1001 best graduates, as well as its demonstrated compassion that resulted in the payment of N700million registration fees for 700 Kano State students at the Bayero University Kano. The ACF leader noted that both the slashing of the fees in state institutions, and the off- setting of the BUK fees would go along way to ease the burden on parents and the students occasioned by the current economic hardship. Describing education as power, and pivot in society's advancement, Goni Farouk prayed for the successful implementation of the government's pro-poor education policies. He also appealed to all sections of the community to support educational development in all facets. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf recently approved the slashing of the registration fees by half to cushion the worsening economic situation the people have been going through all this while.

The President/CE of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has promised to build the Aliko Dangote Sugar Research Centre in the Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK).

This was disclosed by the Chief of Staff to former President Muhammadu Buhari, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, in his speech at the 7th convocation ceremony of the Nasarawa State University on Saturday, 27th May, when he was conferred with an honorary doctorate by the university (NSUK).

Gambari said, “I have good news. Haven spoken with Alhaji Aliko Dangote, he has now agreed to build the Aliko Dangote Sugar Research Centre here at NSUK.”

The foremost philanthropist Aliko Dangote, international expert, and director of the Institute of Criminology, Warsaw Management University, Prof. Brunon Holyst, 93, were also conferred with the prestigious degree.

Earlier, while speaking as Chairman of the Convocation lecture on Friday, President/CE, Aliko Dangote, promised to look at the demands of the university in its quest to shape the trajectory of human progress and the future of society.

The convocation lecturer, Prof. Brunon Holyst, said the responsibility of universities goes beyond imparting knowledge, developing new ideas and fostering innovation and creativity and hinted at how universities can contribute to tackling issues of crime and criminality in society.

Aliko, who was Chairman of the 7th convocation lecture, said universities have a pivotal role to play in driving positive change through effective partnerships and collaboration, with critical stakeholders in line with NUC’s concept of the Triple Helix in Nigeria.

Represented by the GED, Engr. Mansur Ahmed, the philanthropist said the ADF would prioritize the demands to foster critical thinking, exploration of new ideas, research/analysis, internet connectivity and more to push the frontiers of knowledge.
