khadaffi:You made a very important point...the system has failed. This clearly means that we must get the system working again before we can grow to the point where an 18 year old can easily sustain himself in school. And part of the process in getting the system working again involves us relying on our parents for support whilst hoping that the government would continue to locate reasonable budget to the educational sectors. |
Nairariver:My dear it's the institutions responsibility to sort out the salaries of sweepers and cleaners and not the federal government. Cleaners are employed by faculties and it's the Dean's responsibility to raise money to run his faculty. That's why you pay faculty dues. Some faculties offer pre-science, diploma and part-time programs for prospective students. Monies realised from such programs are not remitted to the federal government account but are shared between the school and the faculty. In case you're not aware any program outside the regular undergraduate degree program, PGD, Msc and PhD has nothing to do with the government and are not recognized by the government that's why students who partake in them aren't eligible for NYSC. So the question remains, what do they use monies realised from such programs for? If the government is subsidizing education by allocating billions to the ministry of education, universities shouldn't frustrate the process by looting funds realized through other channels. Such funds should be used in payment of domestic staffs such as cleaners...etc, hired by the faculty. Do you know that during my time as an undergraduate, our faculty was always in darkness...to see light to charge your phone and rechargable lamp in the classroom was easier than walking on water. Would you blame that on the government also? Where's all the money they're generating going if they can't use it to effectively manage the plants and transformers in the faculty? |
seunmsg:1. As a nation we have to get our priorities right if we really want to develop technologically. A quick check on the budgetary allocation for education sector over the years clearly reveals that the figures allocated to education is so paltry that one can hardly achieve anything with it. It is against this backdrop that I am recommending that henceforth, the education sector should be allocated a reasonable share of our annual budget. 2. Education is capital intensive, therefore the Federal Government cannot do it alone. I would therefore recommend that Alumni Associations support and offer endowments as it is done in other climes. And also in the areas of infrastructural development through the provision of adequate potable water, regular power supply, world-class lecture theatres, hostels, functional laboratories...etc. 3. It is imperative that salaries and welfare packages of university lecturers should be reviewed from time to time. In Peter Obi's interview with channels TV yesterday, he said something that touched me. He said the salary and allowance of a local government chairman is higher than a university professor. It's very sad, and you would agree with me that a situation whereby lecturers are on the same salary for over 13 years without increment does not augur well. Finally I just have to agree with you that public universities in Nigeria if they must thrive, must be autonomous. But only when numbers 1-3 have been met and visible growth has been recorded in the institution. Anything outside that would spell doom for parents and students. |
seunmsg:Knowing how corrupt our system is how feasible can this be? We all read about the subsidy scam during Jonathan's government years back running into hundreds of millions. What's to say that the busary award and students loan system wouldn't be highjacked and the funds diverted to private accounts? Nigeria isn't Europe or America where a decision can be implemented and after a few years things would go back to being normal, in Nigeria, there would be those who would see it as a lifetime opportunity of enriching their entire generation. And knowing how soft the government has been reacting to corruption over the years, I believe it's safe to say that such idea would do more harm than good to our educational system. Cos while some parent would have to pay through their nose just to send their kids to school, a larger majority wouldn't be able to afford it. |
seunmsg:These suggestions would be great if implemented. The only disadvantage of this suggestion is that tuition fee of government owned institutions would skyrocket and might even overtake that of private schools. Such development would make it almost impossible for the average Nigerian parent to comfortably train his child in the university. |
Karleb:Haven't you noticed that students are closer to their secondary school teachers than their university lectures upon graduation. My secondary school old students association has a Facebook page of which I'm a member of, at the end of the year we usually hangout at designated locations, celebrate life and raise contributions for some of our teachers who are in need. No one does that for university lectures because most of them are sadist, wicked, vengeful...etc. Also, most Nigerian lectures lack the ability to impact knowledge on their students. They teach with anger frustration, some are so lazy to keep up lecturing appointments with students that they just hand over course material to the course rep to photocopy for the students. If you claim to be a parent, you must see every child you mentor in class as your child, and do everything within you ability to ensure that they get the best from you. That's what every good parents does. Unfortunately our lectures do the exact opposite. |
God1000:Exactly my point. |
Are they fighting for their selfish interests or that of the students? Personally, I don’t get seduced by the facade of fighting the government every time in the name of strike and people will willingly pull their strides behind ASUU. It doesn’t always move me. I want to ask the question; is ASUU really fighting for the well-being of the students, or are they using the fact that Nigeria is a failed government to clone as a facade to pursue their selfish interests, because they know that people will always fall behind them? If ASUU is fighting for the welfare of the students, why won’t they also consider the welfare of the students and return to school? Why are they so comfortable that our students are at home since February, 2022 up till now? That is a period of 5 months and they are not even ready to move. They don’t even care. As for me, I don’t support the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) joining ASUU in the strike. If ASUU is fighting for the welfare of the students, and they want us to believe that they have no ulterior motive, why haven’t they come out with their templates and convince Nigerians of their demands? Have they explained to the students exactly what they are fighting for and how it will benefit the students when granted? During my days as a student, up till now, ASUU have always gone on strike and part of their demands have always been met, but I have never seen any significant improvement in the services they render to the students. The lecturers still trade sex for marks, they still sell books, handouts and collect inducements before a student passes their courses. And most importantly, they have not improved their teaching modules to enhance the education they offer. So, how exactly is their protest in the interest of the students? I want to know, and would be glad if anyone can help me out. Cc. Mynd44, lalasticalala Dominique Seun. |
Nwadu:Women will only be mad at you if you're broke and then go on to cheat with someone she's better than in all areas. She'll rain abuses on you and block you. But if you're the one she's leaning on financially for survival, and the person you cheated on her with is more beautiful, more sexy, jovial, higher placed in the society and financially buoyant than her, she'll cry her eyes out, whilst filling her WhatsApp status with motivational and inspirational quotes and threaten to commit suicide if you don't come back to her. |
Chris2863:These are habits not mistakes. Anything you do consistently on a daily basis is no longer considered as a mistake but a habit. |
Very soon this show would turn to live porn. Look at the profile of people they're bringing on board to participate in. The other one is a stripper while this one twerks...oh well. The sad reality here is that more than 70% of Nigerian youths would be glued to their screens to watch them do absolutely nothing aside trying for over 200 days to fúck each other. And you'd wonder why our leaders don't take the youths seriously... Anyways season would resume August...at least my weekends wouldn't be boring anymore. |
I still cannot believe that we're practically begging people to vote the right candidate next year, but they're blinded by tribalism. Same way we begged northerners who were shouting "Sai Baba" in 2015. Guess who were killed the most? Guess which tribe suffered poverty the most. Even Katsina was not spared! Look at how Nigeria is currently, ask yourself if this is the kind of life you want for your kids. Since we got Independence, the rate of suicide has never been as high it is currently, yet some people are still playing the tribal card and have refused to open their eyes to reality. You can hardly walk for less and a minute anywhere in Lagos without someone approaching you to beg for money. On Saturday one mama on LAWMA uniform came to me and was begging me for money to eat, she looked so tired and weak and was speaking yourba and didn't even bother if I understood her or not. I felt pity for her and gave her a token. But I'm very sure mama is warming up to vote this devilish party next year because she's an employee of the state and would vote for who ever she's told to vote for. A vote for APC would further plunge Nigeria deeper into the abyss, let's not be decieved. APC has nothing to offer us. Buhari openly admitted that he's tired after 7 years of doing nothing. |
Truvelisback:Nope I haven't...mind sharing it here? |
Truvelisback:They were FWBs I doubt if anything serious was going on between them. |
You asked her out, she said she'll give you a reply later, why nag her to force a reply out of her mouth. The best step you should have taken was the mute step, act normal around her, play dumb and don't bring up that matter again, if you vibe well and she's into you, she'll be the one who would initiate most of your chats and wouldn't turn down a date or hangout offer from you. Girls thrive on attention...when asking a girl out, the more unnecessary attention you give her, the less serious she'll take you. You lost her the moment you started nagging her to accept your proposal. |
The biggest political blunder Umahi made was leaving PDP. With the exit of Peter Obi he would have easily been choosen as Atiku's running mate because he's an outgoing governor. But I don't what greed motivated him to think that he would defeat a whole Jagaban, Amechi, Osibanjo... etc. In the APC primaries and easily get the ticket. As things are, he's Senatoral ambition is dead and buried. And if he cant even control APC in Ebonyi state, how does he intend to control Ebonyi people by telling them who and who not to vote for next year. Umahi is politically finished. |
Once he comes back to Nigeria and changes his Euros to our useless Naira, he's a big boy. Nigerian girls in serious relationships with average hardworking responsible guys would instantly break-off the whole engagement just to marry an Europe based guy. 5 years into their marriage, she's still in his family house in Nigeria as a glorified house girl while uncle is in Italy sending her 100 Euros every month for her upkeep. |
Truvelisback:A sensible and responsible man would not just let anyone suck his díck but someone he can trust who wouldn't hurt him in any way. Only men who jump from women to women or ràpists should worry about that. |
Atiku said winning election depends on party structure, and that Labour Party doesn’t have it, yet this is his 6th time contesting for president and his “structure” can’t get him to win. He ran in 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019 and now 2022. Spoke like a president my àss. |
Such uprising cannot happen in Nigeria, cos whoever is in power his tribesmen would protect him regardless of how useless he's performing. As Buhari is in power do you think the north would support any uprising that would chase him out of office? Never, they'll immediately turn it to a tribal affair, likewise Igbo and yourbas, no body would speak against his tribesman. See ordinary end SARS protest of 2020, they were already turning it to an Igbo/yourba affair in Lagos. I don't see such happening Nigeria. |
Umahi has forgotten that South Easterners aren't northerners where one imam or Alahji would gather thousands of alamajaris and tell them who to vote for. Igbos aren't slaves, so we'll vote for LP, Umahi and his cronies can support Tinubu. We all know he's doing it for his selfish interest and not for the interest of Ebonyi people. By next year when the whole NE and NW start endorsing Atiku and Kwankwaso and NC endorses Peter Obi I'm sure he'll shamelessly retrace back he's footsteps. I'm an Igbo but I sincerely regret to say that our politicians are the worst in Nigeria. Everything they do is just for themselves. |
tinsel:Below are the requirements you must possess before you can be qualified to call yourself a Bishop in Nigeria...take your time to read it. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wikihow.com/Become-a-Bishop%3famp=1 If your uncle doesn't possess any of those those requirements, he's not in anyway different from my uncle who teaches secondary school kids in the village and calls himself a professor. |
tinsel:I have an uncle in my village who is a secondary school teacher, his students, family members, friends and even myself all call him Prof. Does that make him a professor? |
As at June 16th when you opened the thread below. https://www.nairaland.com/7180506/think-im-dating-myself You had a good job, a house of your own and a car. And this your topic, you said you lost your job some months ago. How can someone who had a good job, a car and a house last month loose his job some months ago. So which job were you doing last month according to your thread. Kindly explain to us. |
tinsel:When you form your own church you have no right to call yourself Bishop. In case you don't know there's an association of Nigerian bishops. Bishop isn't a title you give yourself, it's conferred on you by senior Bishops. You can give yourself any title you want if you form your church, from Pastor, prophet, Apostle, General Overseer... etc. But you don't see people answering Bishop anyhow unless you're not living in Nigeria. |
When I said that APC is dead and buried in kaduna the yesterday some of tinubu's urchins who post with MTN's daily 10mb were quoting me to defend their pay master. Elrufai is pained that he wasn't selected as Tinubu's running mate and would work with Atiku. Tinubu would loose the North, SE and SS. If anyone is still thinking at this point that Tinubu would succeed Buhari, that person needs to have his brain examined. |
So much controversies surrounding this Tinubu of a man. LP, PDP and NNPP all unveiled their running mates and there wasn't any controversy, now just for APC to present a vice president to the public, they had to act deceitfully. First APC reported that 30 bishops attended the unvailing of shetima. When the news of the so called make-shift bishops started circulating social media, they said they were unpopular clergymen who have made a name for themselves in their various locations...the question is why lie to the public that they were bishops in the first place when you knew that they weren't. Can an undergraduate claim to be a professor and attend a summit meant for professors, wouldn't he be arrested for impersonation. Does APC know what it takes to become a Bishop that they had to assemble hungry looking roadside pastors to impersonate that office? Then videos of the so called unpopular clergymen surfaced showing them avoiding camera by hiding their faces and refusing to speak to journalist. If they weren't bribed to attend that program why hide your face? Then another video showed them bringing out the regalia from Ghana must go bags to put on at the full glare of the public. And as if that wasn't enough, the final video surfaced of them collecting their pay for a job well done. If Tinubu thinks Nigerians are dumb and would be easily fooled like they fooled us in 2015, he had better wake up from his slumber. Cos the hardship APC has put Nigerians through this 7 years is enough. Lying and still trying to fool us is an insult to our collective intelligence. You unveiled your VP why trying to deceive people that the Christian community is behind you. First it was daddy Adeboye now this. I love Papa Oyedepo, the day they'll use him for their propaganda, would be the day APC would regret every knowing him cos he won't mince words telling the whole world how satanic they are. Tinubu's desperation is very dangerous for the future of our country. Cos a desperate person can do anything to get what he wants. Let's vote wisely next year and no say no to this satanic party. |
He's not a Bishop either, so he should quit impersonating them. A geninue man of God would not come to the public and claim what he's not. |
Most times I laugh when I see Tinubu's SW supporters claiming that he (Tinubu) would sweep northern votes. Since the history of Nigerian elections, the only Southerner to ever receive massive northern support is Obsanjo, and the reason why the north rallied around him was because he was in the military and since it was the military who conducted the elections in 1999, they decided to support their own. Secondly the north felt they've been unfair to yourbas. Remember Abiola had just died the previous year (1998) and tensions were rising so they just decided to allow the yourbas rule. Since then, they've never backed any Southerner. When Jonathan won the presidential election in 2011 he had the whole southern support plus a handful of NC Christian states. The core north didn't vote for him. And the reason why he lost in 2015 is that the SW who voted for him in 2011, formed an alliance with the north and voted massively for Buhari leaving him with only the SE and SS. That's why he lost. If Tinubu is thinking that the north would choose him over Atiku and Kwankwaso, he had better wake up from his slumber. Aside the SW and NC States like Kogi and Kwara, it would be very difficult for him to win any other northern state. The kaduna they're projecting has El-Rufai who feels jilted for not being selected as Tinubu's running mate and might play the nonchalant role by secretly working for Atiku leaving the Southern Christian section to vote for Peter Obi and the northern part to be shared between Atiku and Kwankwaso. The Brono he's projecting Bloc votes from are secretly rallying around Atiku, and the Northern Christians who would have given him massive support if he had picked any of them as running mate would either join forces with Atiku or Peter Obi. The SS and SE would be where he would record the worst performance cos in SE states like Imo and Ebony who have APC governors, the governor of imo isn't performing and no imolite would want to have anything to do with APC because of him, and that of Ebonyi is in crisis and on the verge of leaving the party to pursue his Senatoral career in another party. The SS has only one sitting governor the governor of cross river state and he's facing the same crisis the governor of Ebonyi is facing. So it's most likely that he'll decamp from APC as well so as to pursue his Senatoral career. This technically means that tinubu has almost zero votes from the SE and SS, he would struggle with PDP and LP for votes in the SW and loose massively in the whole north. So tell me how he's going to become the next president. The mystery about Tinubu I'm still trying to understand is how can you be a Muslim and say because you want northern votes you select a Muslim VP? Is it that the north doesn't recognize yourba Muslims are geninue Muslims? Cos in Christianity whether you're from the south or north as long as you confess Jesus as the son of God and believe in him, you'll be accepted wherever you go. Tinubu's rejection by the northern caliphate that he had to choose another northern Muslim to appease them is a slap on the face of yourbas and if they're smart they'll emancipate themselves from the north and stop attacking their fellow Southerners just to please them. |
Why didn't she seat at the back seat. And why flash so much money in the presence of a total stranger. Females should learn to arrange themselves properly before entering a cab and avoid giving anyone the impression that they're loaded financially. You don't board a cab and start rearranging your file and displaying hard currency in the presence of a hungry driver. We really have to be security conscious cos the economy is pushing people to do unspeakable things. She should go to the police station and make an official report, then contact bolt directly and report the driver to them. He's details are everywhere so there's no way he can run away. |
Truvelisback:A warrant officer and a lieutenant cannot be mentioned in the same context. It's like comparing a bank security who has spent 25 years working in the bank to a fresh graduate who was newly employed. The graduate has every authority over the security man but would accord him some level of respect because of his age. A warrant officer lives in the junior officers quarters why a lieutenant stays at the senior officers mess. They have nothing in common and a warrant officer would always salute him whenever he sees him. If there is a war, the lieutenant would be given command of a platoon of which the warrant officer would be under, if there's a drill the lieutenant would be the one to order him to mobilize soldiers for the drill. He's a subordinate to the lieutenant, therefore he would never be given a duty that would make him superior to a lieutenant cos he's an SSCE holder, likewise a bank would never assign a role to a security guard that would give him superiority over a graduate it's not possible... In every division, one warrant officer would be appointed as RSM (Regimental Sergeant Major) but they're still under a lieutenant, because whatever command he's given would comprise of NCOs. A lieutenant is directly under the control of his CO (Commanding officer) and GOC and not an RSM. In the cooperate world, your degree is what gives you value not your age. |
IbadeHQ:Your hatred towards Igbo didn't even make you read the post to know that he's a lecturer in Rivers State and not Abia. I'm sure you're also suffering the hardship in the country, you're buying gas over 1k per kg, you're buying fuel and other commodities at inflated prices. Continue your hatred towards Igbos. By next year fuel would be over a thousand naira then I'll see if you'll continue to blame Igbos or you'll use your head this time to vote in leaders with vision regardless of their tribe. |
