From BlueetoothSomething for you on Edo Benin Monarch, Traditionalists To Curse CriminalsThis is the first time that the Oba is wading into this to the extent of invoking a curse. It simply means that crime in Edo has ballooned to a new high that the Oba becomes so directly concerned. |

Deep Soul:Just as an example of what goes on elsewhere. Man, 30, nabbed with human parts in Lagos By Evelyn Usman | VANGUARD Monday, June 07, 2010 Emotions ran high Monday at the Oduduwa, Ikeja office of the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Frank Mba, following startling revelations of how the dismembered remains of a teenager was exhumed from Era cemetery in Ijaniki area of Lagos, 12 hours after it was interred. The dismembered human parts included a fresh head, which still had long braids, indicating it was that of a female, two severed hands and legs and intestines. The human parts were recovered from a 30-year-old man last week at Ijaniki area of Lagos by policemen attached to Ojo division. The suspect, identified as Femi Ade, during interrogation by Policemen, confessed to have worked at the cemetery as a security man. Surprisingly, the human parts were identified as that of a teenager simply identified as Seki. Ironically, the bereaved family were reportedly taken to the cemetery by the suspect, who unknown to them, had a sinister motive. Explaining the circumstance that led to his arrest, Frank Mba said: “At about 11.30 a.m, police operatives attached to Ojo Division while on a routine stop and search on June 3, 2010, sighted a man on an unregistered Suzuki motorcycle, with a black nylon bag tied on the carrier. “Acting on reasonable suspicion, the policemen flagged down the motorcycle to conduct a search where the items inside the nylon were discovered to be suspected human parts. During interrogation, the suspect confessed that they were exhumed from a cemetery in Ijaniki area. “To ascertain his claim, he was taken to the cemetery where it was discovered that the grave of the deceased has been massively tampered with. He even demonstrated to the policemen how he usually open the grave and carry out this horrible operation.” Before being whisked to the station, the suspect, it was gathered, offered the policemen N50,000 as bribe to facilitate his release but it was reportedly turned down. On his part, Femi claimed the human parts were given to him by a staff at the cemetery to take to a herbal mixture seller he identified as Lanre, at Ojo market. Although he claimed not to know the whereabout of the staff whom he simply identified as Baba he said he was to get N1500 from the errand. Other items recovered at the Ogun State-born suspect’s home, according to the police, were dried human bones and teeth. These items, Femi explained, were usually exhumed to allow for space to bury fresh dead bodies. The items, he claimed, were used by herbalists to prepare concoctions for those looking for employment. |
If it takes the creation of an Aba state to delineate the bad guys of Abia, then state creation may not be bad afterall ![]() That way, EzeUche and Yarodin can, for sure, settle their blames and counter-blames. |
Deep soul read my first post. It says that the head of the group looked like a northerner. Of course, no northerner can do kidnapping in Igboland without the Igbo indigenes helping. That much is clear in my posts. And when you talk about ritualism and 419, was there anything like 419 in Nigeria before? Everything was imported from somewhere. Ritualism in all likelihood came from Yorubaland (gbomogbomo which has been in existence for 100s of years) because it was not known in Igboland from adam. |
ChinenyeN:It is very easy. There is an ngwa village called Abala where they manufacture guns as a matter of culture. The federal govt even wanted to formalize the gun-making industry there. I believe that topic was also discussed here on nairaland. |
Ibime, There was no kidnapping in Abia until it was imported from Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta. Even as we speak, the kidnapping that goes on in Edo is as bad as that in Abia. The one in Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta waned a bit due to the amnesty program that took the boys off the creeks. Now that Abia has been added to the amnesty program, let us wait for its effect in Abia. |
Deepsoul Do you know that fulani cattle rearers are involved in serious armed robbery in southern Nigeria? If you know this, what in your opinion, can stop an armed robber from being a kidnapper? Note that the story I quoted described the head of the kidnappers as a tribal-marked person that looked like a northerner. The person who was kidnapped is an adult Igbo that should know a non-Igbo when he sees one. |
The militants tend to wear military uniforms in the camp and police uniforms with police bullet proof vest outside the camp for their normal operations. They carry AK47 assault riffles and perform drills each morning in the bush around the cell building- the so-called camp. All the boys spoke the local dialect- asa/ngwa version of igbo language. The chairman/leader of the group who authorized each release has facial tribal marks, speaks same dialect. It may not surprise me if he is a northerner and security personnel. It is impossible that the security agents do not know their position.https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-453079.0.html I extracted the story in the quote above from an actual kidnapping experience that took place along P.H-Aba expressway recently. Please note the bolded portion which I can summarize as follows: 1. The kidnappers spoke ngwa/ Asa dialect of Igbo 2. The leader of the kidnappers does not look like an Igbo We also know from another story http://odili.net/news/source/2010/may/26/514.html that a lot of non-indigenes live in Aba, including thousands of northerners. These people speak perfect Igbo (presumably of ngwa dialect). Now who is the leader of the kidnappers mentioned in this story? Igbos do not bear tribal marks. Which northern groups have tribal marks? We also know that many fulani cattle rearers in the south are involved in armed robbery? Are nefarious elements of ngwa/asa origin allowing others use them to commit crimes in their land? |
yemmight:They should be banished, both of e'm. Twats. |
Let the govt bring back Bakassi. The police has failed, simple. During the Bakassi days, Abia was very safe. |
~Bluetooth:I hear your lies. We shall see how it goes when Yoruba is involved. |
Bluetooth Such bizzare only happen in igbolandSo Abia has suddenly become the entire Igboland? I hope you react ok when the tribalism table turns on you. |
Bluetooth. Please show us one report that says crime has reduced in Edo state. I will be happy to read that. Like I said crime goes round and comes round each of the states. I have provided some reports. |
Kobojunkie:You are simply stu-pid. Show us the data from NBS that you are talking about and the matter ends there. There are tons of contrasting (to your claim) data on poverty in Nigerian states with DATES even here on NL. |

Kobojunkie:It will do you a whole world of good to stop peddling lies. Abia is nowhere near the poorest state in nigeria. Armed robbery in Abia, as in anywhere else, is undertaken for various reasons. Poverty is only one of those, others being greed, ostentation, peer pressure, etc. |
Today it is Abia, yesterday it was Ogun, Edo, Oyo, Lagos, Imo etc. Tomorrow it could be Jos, Calabar, Bayelsa etc. |

Oyo, Imo, Ogun, others lead in armed robbery By Yusuf Alli Published Today News Rating: Unrated Armed robbery cases are more pronounced in seven of the 36 states, it was learnt yesterday. The states are Oyo, Imo, Ogun, Kano, Cross River, Rivers and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The crime figures, which are contained in the 2008 Report of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), are based on cases reported to the police as at the end of 2007. The breakdown of the armed robbery cases in the seven states, as at 2007 ending, is as follows: Oyo (224); FCT (172); Imo (176); Rivers (145); Cross River (137); Kano (108); and Ogun (107). But while Lagos State recorded a drastic fall in armed robbery cases from 300 to 70, eight states had less than 28 armed robbery incidents. The states are: Gombe(27); Benue(27); Plateau(26); Kwara(25); Sokoto(24); Jigawa(16); Kebbi(20); and Yobe(20). The ratings of others are: Abia(89); Adamawa(96); Akwa Ibom(88); Anambra(96); Bauchi(41); Bayelsa(52); Borno(41); Delta(63); Ebonyi(51); and Edo(79). Others are Ekiti(85); Kaduna(40); Katsina(31); Kogi(41); Nasarawa(36); Niger(32); Ondo(58); Osun(51); Taraba(80); Although it could not be ascertained why the 2007 figure for Enugu State was not listed, a source said: "we had 44 cases for the state as at 2006." The source in the NBS, who spoke in confidence with The Nation, said the figures are "the current official records/data which any institution or person could work with." "We based our statistics on the five-year data provided by the Nigeria Police Force and the period in question had covered 2003 to 2007 for comparison. But the latest figure will be that of 2007 which we have produced as a report that is already in circulation in government and public. "We got far-reaching statistics from the police including the numbers of persons arrested; those prosecuted for robbery; suspects awaiting trial; civilians killed by armed robbers; armed robbers killed by the police; the injured robbers; and cases pending investigation. "The statistics is not meant to ridicule any state but it will assist those with high crime rates to improve on their security network. For the police in particular, it would allow them to take stock and strengthen their operation in flash-points," the source added. The report said: "The Data on public order are sourced from the Nigeria Police Force. They cover crimes, road accident cases and casualties, armed robbery cases and involvement, vehicles stolen and recovered, court cases, juvenile cases and bank frauds." The report identified Jigawa and Kogi states as the least poor states. Others are Kebbi, Kwara, Yobe and Bauchi. It states: "The poverty incidence by state reveals the differences in the well-being of the people across the states. "For example, Jigawa has the highest poverty incidence (91 per cent), while Oyo State has the lowest (21 per cent). In addition, the first 11 states with the highest poverty incidence are from the North. As for the depth and severity, Kogi ranks highest, while Oyo has the lowest. "The likely reasons for high poverty levels in Jigawa and Kogi are heavy reliance on agriculture, high level of unemployment and low level of human capital development. "On the other hand, the low poverty incidence recorded for Oyo is basically from the lower cost of living when compared to other states of the country. Food prices, transportation fares and accommodation rents are relatively low in Oyo State, including Ibadan, the capital." http://thenationonlineng.net/web/articles/8965/1/Oyo-Imo-Ogun-others-lead-in-armed-robbery/Page1.html |
Could you please stop indulging the numb knots long enough to see these are lives that are being put in confusion here? We are speaking of a state with one of the highest poverty rates in the country( According to the reports from the National Bureau of Statistics) already. People are being deprived and worse, caused to live their lives in fear by these hoodlums. It should not be an ' IBO' issue but a Nigeria issue cause these people deserve better too.Kobojunkie, Do you care sharing this statistics. I am very curious. |
After this people like Bluetooth will call themselves nontribalists? After this people like Katsumoto will attack others for tribalising Yoruba issue, having failed to rein in people like Blurtooth? It was on this board that we read how Ogun state house of Assembly begged robbers to go for a break. I wonder what we will say about armed robbery records in Ogun, Oyo and Lagos. Are they any better than that of Abia? |

Sometimes we as a people should choose one thing from the pack. Do we want an upgrade to international airport? If so, why don't we give those in charge the opportunity to give us one, even if it means closing the existing airport for one year? How will you get an updated airport if you complain of its closure for repairs? When they stop the upgrade, the same people will complain. We should be able and ready to bear a little discomfort. |
Industrialists flay closure of Enugu airport By Tony Edike Thursday, February 18, 2010 ENUGU—THE Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, ECCIMA, has said that the ongoing rehabilitation work at the Akanu Ibiam Airport, Enugu which has now been closed down has further worsened the economy of the South East Zone. advertisement President of ECCIMA, Mr. Okechukwu Nwadinobi, who made this known in Enugu yesterday, said the decision of the Federal Government to close the airport for a period of one year when the rehabilitation work is expected to last even when highways in the zone had remained in a terrible and bad state, would definitely slow down economic activities in the region. He said that though the current effort to expand the airport and upgrade its infrastructure was commendable, the government should have considered the construction of a second runway so that the existing runway would continue to provide air services to the teeming air travelers from the five South Eastern States. Nwadinobi, who lamented the difficulty being encountered by air travelers, businessmen and women in the area since the airport was closed down on February 10 for upgrading, said that the nearest alternative airport was more than two hours away, adding that the development was already impacting negatively on the economy of the zone. The Federal Ministry of Aviation had said that the project if carried out according to time line would be concluded in twelve months while air travelers using the airport had been directed to patronize the International Cargo Airport Owerri for the meantime. “We call on the Federal Government, the Governors of the zone and other stakeholders to rise to the occasion and ensure that the proposed runway extension is carried out in a way that will not disrupt regular flight operations and to explore the alternative option we have humbly suggested,” the ECCIMA boss said. |
