A business needs an accomodating and vibrant market receptive to its offers. The two - business and market - become a dynamics that preserves success and buoyancy to exchange and relations. I therefore want to say that Igbo business is successful because the markets in which such successes are readily evident were also instrumental and are therefore worthy of acknowledgment and recognition. This market relevance can be best evaluated by comparing against them against markets that closed itself and blocked the spread of the new enterprise, therefore resulting in retarded growth for Igbos. If your success is high in West and North, far higher than it is in East, then you also have Yorubas and Hausas to thank for partnering with you and creating the dynamics that gave you that outgrowth, but you need to review the conditions in your own homeland for why the dynamics are not working for you as greatly. |

When you say 'no ethnic groupis pure", can you clarify how you reached this conclusion. How many percent of Yorubas have Igbo roots and through what channell? |
While I commend the vision of the state govt to develop and keep with urban progress, I believe we have enough of bridge and concrete consructions for now. It's time we start thinking about homeless shelters for indigents in the city. Urban development is not limited to beautifying alone, infrastructures for human refuge is also important. Our psyche is becoming too comfortable with capitalism and materialism, we need to slow it down and give thought to sacredness of the human condition and sanity. |
I was the 1st to post this story. The truth is that the post civil war trauma has persisted and is still being fueled by non-Igbos. Many Yorubas have Igbo roots, Many Esans have Igbo roots,Abagworo,me chionu!! You are looking for my trouble, eh? Which Yoruba people have Igbo roots? I go throw this keyboard up ya a_s_s! ![]() |
What a surprise |
Rhodesia, We intend to wear the royal crown and have a sitting African as the King or Queen of England. Take a peek at America, . , , might not happen in your lifetime but it's coming! |
adam, no, Kano is not in trouble. Boko Haram planning a reprisal for this incidence will be in trouble if they converge on Kano. Kano has a history with the likes of Boko Haram, they defeated Maitatsine twice in the past, Boko need to suck up this defeat and not confront Kano citizens. |
DeeMain, Yes, I can share a whole lot more on this issue. I do not have a link but I can give a keyword to use for online search - 'COSMIC ATTUNEMENT" I do not want to derail the topic but I can limit the scope to the relevants of the root cause and why the imbalance occur. When you read up on cosmic attunement be careful, capitalism has its hands in it. |
Thank you Ivy, great point! In a way, Nairaland is a mirror of the everyday social interaction - some are hillarious, some are comical, some are egotistical, some are emotional supporting, some are confrontational. In a family setting where a member mocks a serious emotional issue the mischief is not excused, the rest members in the family will chastise such a miscreant; I don't see why that should not be the case in Nairaland. There is time for everything; mockery and comedy and laughter belong in their own appropriat event, emotional issue demands a certain response and approach that mockery cannot satisfy and so in addition to some limited regulations from the moderators, the other participants should also act to pounce and turn the mockery against the offender. @Miss MakkyWhile I support the effort, and I see that the producers will be interestd in the Nigerian markt, . . . . is there anyway they could use the image of a black baby and name instead of the one there now? It would be lovely that we produc our own diaprs locally but in the absence of that can we minimize the psychological insult? |
Very thoughtful and nice commentaries and responses. I have a thought to offer but need first to know if anyone has a suicidal rate study report broken down by demography and local area (urban vs rural type settings) of the victims. First for Nigeria and second for the major industrialized world (US, Europe and so on. . . .) There could be an association between environmntal dynamics and the consciousness. Humanity finds fulfillment in the spirit and not in the physical body. At all times, an individual is battling a conflict between the inner spirit and the outer needs. There is need to have balance so that the individual continues with focus on his/her ideals. The balance is provided by environmntal factors. If the individual is isolated and insulated for too long from sensing and finding his/her tune with natural habitats (trees, lakes, rivers, meadows, bird songs, mountains, valleys, animals, . . . . ) then the desired balance is tipped and if not soon restored to an even keel, the indicvidual's sanity is likewise tipped to the edge. For this reason, it is advisable to immerse peopl on th edge into natural habitats in what is commonly termed retreats. I know in Nigeria we used to have a rural healing therapy for insane people. This was before all these overnight evangelists propped up lft and right commercializing th nam of Christ as the solution to insanity. The therapy was to send an insane person to a farm settlement as a hand on the farm helping with tilling the soil and animal husbandry. The success rate was great, some needed repeated immersions to toally heal and be reabsorbed into normal society. This is in no way to say that there is no insanity in rural aras but those are more of genetic than environmntal. |
Good job Mac! I chased TOH's ikebe over here ![]() Hey, to all troubled minds and souls, listen, Mac is correct. This is a community! Community is a support structure and though it's not a private forum, we would love that you come in here first and seek a second, and possibly a thrid and fourth opinion on your situation. There is the story of a village feast hosted by a wise man. The village had once enjoyed great prosperity and wealth but times turned and the seasons were harsh on them. Harvests dwindled, the soil lost its fertility, hot season was long, rainy season was short, planted crops yielded late, some rotted in the soil, some were destroyed by plagues, farmers went into debt, husbands abandoned wives and children and went on adventure, wives were unfaithful to their husbands, children were sick, elderly were left without help, houses destroyed by fire, water holes dried. . . back to back, tragedy upon devastation; they solve one problem and it's replaced by five new ones. People were sullen and their spirit was heavy and sunk. They arrived at the feast expecting to be dined and wined. The stoves were cold, no thumping of the mortar and pestle, the wine gourds were turned upside, no smoke or fire anywhere around. They wondered what the wise man meant by "feast", so they all sat around this big and long table, each one consumed by the thoughts of problems and issues in his/her household. The wise man showed up and announced that he truly meant a feast, an exchange of goodwill and pleasantries to lighten their burdened souls. So he announced that each person should make a list of his/her problems and place it on the table. After this was done, he then asked that each person in turn go around the table and shop the lists for a less burdening but affordable trouble to take home with them in exchange for what they deposited.Three hours later, he noticed the cheers on people faces and wondered why, the exchanges must be going very well. Everyone settled and there were smilling faces and laughter and plesantries. The wise man then stood up and asked if there is anyone that will not be going home with the same problem they came with. No one answered. If you think you have a bad problem, there are people willing to exchange theirs for yourrs. So please, before you hurt yourself or anyone else,, stop here and feast with us. . . . .per chance you might find a favorable exchange. ![]() |
Since the authorized public display by OPC to communicate its intention in the event of a territorial breach by Boko Haram there has been many alarmed outcries speaking against their projected plan. I have visited three very popular Arewa websites so far and shared in the discussions about OPC. There is no doubt, OPC has made a breakthrough! Northerners support OPC's challenge to Boko but are also concerned, very concerned indeed. This is good sign! The voices on their website convey a sense of urgency and agitation but their contributions are reconciliatory. When I compare with the responses in NL, it is absurd to hear Igbos talk as if the OPC message was targeted at them. I don't want to talk too long but I will summarize it this way. . . . When this shyyt go down, it is going to be an inferno. If your biafran as ses find the parade hot and uncomfortable, no doubt the inferno will be too hot to contain and I suggest you start buying your ekene dili chukwu ticket right fu ck ing now! Write your will, start shipping property to village, move junior and him mama to village. . . whatever the f u ck put you out of harm's way, now is the fu ck ing bad time to get the shyyt going. Leave OPC and Boko to settle their challenges! |
You see nothing wrong in an unauthorised group carrying weapons to terrify the citizenry?Who said this Who should they obtain authority from? |
all4naija, From outside lookig in, all you see is a kaleidoscope of brilliant forms and colors. When you dive inside then you have the advantage of seeing the same image with the aid of filters and can now differentiate the blue from the yellow and the green from the red. Overall, when combined, its a pure white light complemented by each component member, without whom the formation of purity is inachievable. |
As much as I find this unpleasant, if some event happens that causes Hausa to be targetted en masse in the SW, that may just be the straw that breaks the Nigerian camel's back.. . . .dissolving the nation, or introducing equitable balance and transform into true federalism! thank you e_b. |
The OPC's warning is for BH to keep its agenda in a region where the leaders seems to be fine and dandy with blowing up innocent people, attacking churches, killing policemen en masse, etc. The SW WANTS AND NEEDS NONE OF ITKoruji, thank you for stressing that point! It is not our business what the government or the North decide for Boko Haram, but it is sure our d a m n business and priority in the West what the outcome will be if Boko cross the border ad unleash terror on our soil. It does not have to be a Yoruba blood, it could be Ibo blood, Hausa blood, minority blood. . . . it is not about the identity of the victim, it is the insult of the territorial violation, period! If the investigation proves that Boko is the culprit or if they come out as is their tradition to claim responsibility, it will be on! |
tpia, These arts are primarily a philosophical record. Beyond appreciation for it's visual beauty and aesthetics, it's unlikely Europeans will understand the history and purpose of these arts. To get past the surface visuals and unveil the deep meaning of the head crowns, for instance will be an undertaking that recruits and partners with the expertise of the custodians of these philosophies. It does not need Europeans to accomplish, our own indigenous academicians can do that, only if they will recognize and come to terms with the place of "sacred imagination" as the source origin of human evolution, be it scientifically or artistically. If academic knowledge and literacy alone is the basis for measurig truth ad credibility, then we will never get past the surface beauties of these arts, because the custodians are unlike us; their mental imagery and consciousness have not been violated ad corrupted by the white man's academic lies. In instances where they have equally been corrupted, some of them have found their way back to the origin and reconciled to the ancestral truths. These class of custodians stand the best chance, and not the Europeans, of ever revealing the truths of these arts for us. Amongst many of these people, Professor Wande Abimbola is without doubt in front and a pioneer. |
When it comes to political rivalry within our own Nation and on our own soil we have never been known to act timidly, much as we love the Hausas and consider them kins, we will give them same treatmet with which Yoruba brothers treat one another across a political divide and factions. Boko Haram is not on the same political side that West is on. If they venture onto our land Northerers will be forever sorry. 11 |
So if Boko Haram bombs Lagos then OPC will start killing Hausas and other Northern minorities. Very poor thinkingYou dont get it do you? Nobody has birthright to unwarranted killing and freelance massacre of people just bcause they are different from you. Boko Haram attack anywhere on Yorubaland, there will be reprisal killigs. If Hausas in Yorubaland cherish their lives then thy need to put pressure on Boko to steer clear of West. We have endured sporadic killings targeted at Igbos but in which Yorubas ended up as collaterals on their soil. This is our soil we are protecting, they will never kill us on our soil and get away with it. Never ever!!! That's the message the human rights group, OPC is sending out. |
What OPC did can be considered an act of war and not a protest. You protest with placards and not guns and knife. They've called for war and should be ready for any eventuality. This is not some rascal MASSOB,we have no room for placards and highway protest in the West. OPC is protecting peopel's rights. If you call it war then by GOD so be it, war it is!! lmao@ ekt_bear's comments on the latter two. |
If you come to Nigeria today, it is only the Igbo people that have prosecuted a war as a tribe.Igbo were the only people foolish eough to see victory in a war scaled disproportionately against them. |
As I read some of these post, I cannot believe the audacity that Yorubas would say anything about the Ndigbo.Eze, Yoruba, unlike Igbo, does not believe in putting the cart before the horse! |
lol@terracotta. Your ego is in your throat, may GOD soften it for you. Amor4ce, may Almighty GOD enshroud you with the covering of a million harmonic angels to guide on all axis of your endeavors, ASE! Anonymous, thank you for this post. These arts are not only beautiful, they are also powerful, they express a philosophical thought. Looking at the arts and studying their details I gained indepth understanding of the mysteries and secrets commuicated through them. In that sense, I can say thank you for facilitating a lecture. I ask the Almighty GOD, in the power of all the names by which He is known to raise an army of angels for Anonymous, to proceed ahead of you and all aroud you, demolishing barriers and openig gateways for your approach, ASE! |

US claims that hiv/aids is high in Africa due to our sex habits. It is indisputable that homosexuality is a prime channell for transmitting hiv/aids. What this news translates to is that US is using financial aid as a bargainig chip against our health and wellness in Africa. I tell you, they want to wipe our black a s s e s out of Africa ad inherit it for their children. Crazy mofos playing with our culture and life. |
Of course it goes a very long way to say so. You can't stage a competition from a handful teams and then call the winner the best in the World. You're never to be taken seriously with that.Ejine, you ever heard of the baseball world series? A number of teams, all Americans and playing within America but titled world championship. Anyway, everything is commercialized nowadays, including school rankings. American or European evaluators are never ever going to put an African school as best in the World, no matter if they outperform Havard and Cambridge ad Oxford and Sorbone all put together. Moreover, at individual level, I don't know about Europeans but I do kow that Africans are better educated than Americans, merit for merit at least in theoreticals. If we had the materials and finaces I dont doubt that we will also outperform them in applications. So when you hear that an African school in iternational competition was defeated to a 14th rank, I'd say subtract 10 from that to compensate for rigging and then within your own conscience be proud that they came 4th. |
If Yoruba and Igbo cannot get along. . . .for their get-along relationship and the pseudo-unity it entails, Igbos need to look to their East. They share ancestry and roots with Cameroun, not with Yoruba. |
In Nigeria today the Yoruba's is the only tribe that fought for injustice, human-right,good governance and democracy.Thank you, championed by OPC!! ![]() |
