omonnakoda: I think you are repeating dogma without thinking it through. As your assertion is examined you will start to make all kinds of caveats and exemptions. I think for me to form an opinion that is rational and logical I should start with an open mind.
So Men and women are not equal but then you go on to talk about homes .
So are men and women equal if they do not belong to the same household? e,g are men and women equal in school, the work place etc . Should women be allowed to be governors,Ministers presidents? Does inequality apply there?
Let us go back to the home are brothers and sisters not equal? If they are not equal how does this inequality manifest exactly. What really is the basis of this inequality I think the main issue lies in the meaning of "gender equality" and the dictionary meaning isn't worth the salt. Equal opportunity and equal rights is universally accepted(at least in civilised non-theocratic countries) and is being promoted. So any discrimination in social , legal or career circle based on gender is immoral and totally wrong. What usually cause disagreements is the home front especially husband and wife relationship. I admit that there are many backward culture which restricts and even dehumanise women in certain situations but they are the exceptions not the rule. Gender equality as being promoted by feminists is equal(even superior in some cases) role for husband and wife in the family for example if the wife washes plates in the morning , the husband must cook in the evening so as not to violates their right. If any woman wants such , it is better she marries a husband who have the same understanding as herself. Marriage is a choice not a right as you cannot force someone into a union they don't want. If someone hates cigarettes, he/she have no business marrying a smoker only to cry foul that their right is being trampled on. |

vodutive: stop trying to be too clever by halves, You know the peoblem with our education system. Although people may and do chosse to study abroad even when the domestic system is functional, you know full well that we are talking aboutpeople who are FORCED to send their kids abroad or seek education abroad because a Nigerian degree is no longer worth the paper it is printed and going to a Nigerian University is equivalent to condemning your future because it limits your opportunities and closes doors the minute you present your certificate. No body is forced, it is a voluntary choice to send kids abroad. The people who send their kids abroad are those who can afford to. The statement : "our education system is bad" is meaningless unless one become specific and make an objective comparison with nations of similar wealth and population. There are thousands of Nigerians(some didn't even pass UTME) also go to school abroad in Ghana every year even though the school they end up attending is not of international repute. A Degree's value just like money is based on perception and those who could afford to get a high value degree will continue to seek for it regardless of the state of our institution. |

kennygee: So because Wura is the Yeyeluwa, everyone should take whatever she says, hook, line and sinker without having their own opinion? This has nothing to do with "Yeyeluwa" title. The term "gender equality" sounds nice but its consequence are far reaching. It is a subversive attempt to turn men into unthinking robots. Every body agrees that discrimination based on sex is wrong and and immoral(and that is what the first wave feminism was based on). But the feminists we have now wants more than equality, they want slaves who will obey whatever they want. I am not be deceived by the "equal education" and "equal opportunity" being peddled around by the pseudo-feminists, that is just a means to an end as their ultimate aim is to destroy the family unit. Let women marry the type of men they like instead of demanding that all men behave the same way. If you prefer a house-husband, don't marry a constant traveller and later cry foul that he is not always around to help you at home. |

vodutive: who was the so called university lecturer in charge that failed to improve education causing them to all go abroad for education in the 1st place? This is a very weak argument, every country in the world have citizens who go abroad to study for reasons best known to them. Since there are american students studying in the UK , we should also blame Obama for not "improving" education in the US. |

For all we know it might be a classic "first to complain" case between both parties and do not tell me the accusers are not wont to go that low. that the same letter was allowed was allegedly leaked out by the accusers only further supports this viewpoint (if believed) From what I understand , the normal process of handling such cases is to stand with the complainant, especially when there is a strong imbalance in power. And I do not believe that the complainants attempted to assault or intended to foist prostitutes on the accused but were rebuffed and they resort to reporting the case first, it sounds ridiculous. I am sure , this man would have mentioned it, if there is something like that. |

Seun, Mynd44 please take note, rule 2 appeared to be obsolete because any story on crime is being turned to tribal bashing with no punishment being handed to perpetrators. If Nairaland stands by Nigeria's unity, it can't afford to look the other way when hate-filled tribalism is being displayed on FP topics. |

They have every right to ask for evidence and if no evidence from the us govt. Nigeria should not take the matter as a simple misunderstanding...... This is a very dumb defense, no one sets someone up to solicit for sex or attempt to sexually assault a woman. That was how the ignoble Unilorin lecturer was claiming setup even when he admitted that he has many girls on his sleep roll. The best way for these lawmakers to clear themselve is to sue the U.S government for defamation of character, it is that simple. |

Alphaoscar: Stfu !!!!
Is it today that Muslim students start wearing hijab to school ? This is a practice that has been happening for God knows when even among their teachers and people of other profession and I wonder why you now think it is Aregbesola's doing.
The Christian leaders are the ones making themselves the willing tools in the hands of the enemies of that state. I attended an Anglican primary school managed by the government but on every Friday we always have our morning prayers in the Islamic ways without anybody killing each other.
We even have imam in school then teaching IRK.
The practice was the same when I later transferred to an Ansar-ud-deen school where we have our morning prayers in the Christian ways from monday -Tuesday , on Wednesday you pray silently and call whatever God you which while Thursday - Fridays are for Islamic prayers.
That's why during our days all the students are able to know most the popular songs in the S.O.P and still recite fati'a and other Islamic verses.
This latest move and agitation is strange to us in Yorubaland . Every normal Yoruba family have people of the two religion and they co-exist without any fighting among them.
( And FYI, even my own patents are practicing different religions and they live together in peace). If you are sincere with yourself, you will see that your vituperations are unnecessary. Why did your role model Aregbe merged muslim and christian schools together and refused to create a level-playing field if not to promote intolerance ? |

ziccoit: CAN needs leaders both at the national and state level who can think out of box by stop seeing everything from political angle. The recent example of flagrant disregard for rule of law and constituted authority was displayed in Osun where a high court granted Muslims right to freedom of religion through wearing of hijab, the judgement which was as result of a case filed by Muslims about 4yrs ago to seek court protection instead of engaging in force and civil disobedience.
One would have expected CAN to appeal the ruling or file similar protection by asking court to direct Osun government to allow church robes in place of school uniforms. Instead, the once respected CAN threw civility into the wind and announced church robes for its followers across the state.
I hope this new president will not turn himself to APC or PDP spokesperson in the name of kickback as witnessed under the outgoing president. I hate hypocrisy, Students have been wearing Hijab to school even before the said ruling so your acclaimed "civility" is meaningless in this case. Instead of you to blame the Architect of the problem Aregbesola, you are here throwing jab at CAN. If christian and muslim schools have been left separate, all this lawsuits won't arise in the first place. Christian and muslims have long co-existed together in Osun state before Aregbe brought his archaic idea. |

That would have been enough to teach him the lesson he deserved. I want to believe that these two were love birds but along the line something went amiss and the lady decided to embrace the infamous jungle justice. As far as I'm concerned, she's GUILTY and consequently she should be made to face the full wrath of the law. Shikena! HungerBAD: This is pure Murder.
Her Story will not even pass a lie detector that is made in China(the fake ones), let alone pass the ones that we are using with our common sense, is she really serious? you went out, came back and met him in your room?he disappeared into the room? he tried to sleep with you and you started screaming and nobody heard you?and yes you keep a bucket of Acid in your room?is she normal?
If you had been a victim of rape before as you claim, you would not allow a man that is not your husband want to sleep overnight with you in the same room.
The heart of women?God protect me from those that will want to cut my life short for any reason. This woman is trying to get away with murder.
Everything about this Story is wrong. Unfortunately, the man is not here to defend himself any more.
To the name checkers association on Nairaland, please keep away from this thread, a life was lost so no tribal stuff here. You both have some points but your conclusions are a bit extreme, If she planned to bath the man with acid or kill the man, she wouldn't do it in her own house , she will prefer a place where no one will finger her as a suspect. I agree she kept the acid in her house for sinister purpose , but it is far-fetched to assume that she invited the victim to her house just to pour him the acid. This is most likely a case of using a bullet meant for peter to kill paul. |
