Beaf:
Here is a Trinidadian complaining about bkbabe.
Trinigal is not the first and might not be the last to complain about the despicable fungus that is bkbabe.
How can a foreigner like bkbabe be allowed to make racist comments against Nigerians so freely on NL? It just goes to show how much we value ourselves as Nigerians. How shameful can things get?

bkbabe should be banned permanently. If the problem is that users can immediately sign up with similar sounding names, then it is possible to screen all new registrations for similarity to a given list of banned user id's.
The simplest way is to employ a system that employs the Levenshtein distance algorithm.

@trinigal
Thanks a lot.
i thought bkbabe was nigerian?. . .

you're at osogbo?. . .means you guys have my former SRTM engr Nwachukwu(that guy na something else undecided). . .yep i used to chill with the guy commissioning the scada while i was in Shiroro, you might know his boss(his name starts with M i think he's from one of them central african countries) he(the boss) spent more time in Osogbo than Shiroro although it might have been at the NCC, the guy at Shiroro(ghanian dude) just left for glo ghana, dunno how it'll affect you guys sha. . .maybe i should find out about that distance learning thing sef. . .

I've been to the NCC once in 2007(or 2006), we saw Engr Ishola then,( the guy didn't let us see the MMIs sha), then the switchyard adjacent to the NCC was underconstruction.

mennn you can like to holler if you're coming to abj anytime soon o. . .it'd be really cool if we could hook up as per say you be my bros for the power system.
NYSCRe: Is It Wise To Come Back To Do NYSC? by netotse(m): 11:13pm On Dec 07, 2010
Rare:
Look at it this way. In spite of the NYSC being mandatory to gain employment, people are still considering if it's "wise" (and these are potential job seekers). Imagine if that mandatory requirement did not exist.
Then, why are people even considering a mandatory activity in the first place? Because of the inherent 'gaming' as you put it. Also I do not envisage a scheme without any 'gaming', that is utopian. I earlier used the phrase 'at least to a good degree' to establish the level of reduction in 'gaming' that would make the scheme tolerable. Moreover, the 'gaming' in question is of a blatant type. Others systems, which you allude to, usually have a more subtle 'gaming', hence tolerable by any design.
people are hesitant not because the system isn't fair(we're nigerians, we dont do 'fair'. . .lol), but because it's practically a failure, welfare for the corp members is terrible. the conditions are abysmal in most cases. . .

I understand your self-defense.

I want to realy commend you on a good job you are doing here and realy netotse and others have been sharing wonderful post too. I almost quit nairaland somrtimes back cos of some abuses and lack of decorum I find on most threads, but this section endeared me more to the site, so that even when I stopped posting messages, i always checked on this section as a guest. Pls continue to make this thread unique!
Iam an Electrical Engr. in the nation's main power sector industry (Transmission sector), had HND Electrical (Power &machines),2000; Nigerian society of Engineers Graduateship Exam, 2003 and a corporate member of NSE. Have been working in PHCN since 2001 (had some stint in the distribution sector, Grid metering now Market operations Hq and am presently in systems operations and by the side also working with the protection & control crew.
I have just completed a certificate course in Power systems protections from EIT/IDC south africa (e-learning) and am currently enrolled for the M.Sc Electrical power system by distance learning from the University of Bath.
Iam targetting specialization in Substation automation because we are gradually moving to the boom of the power sector and one must be well positioned for this.
it's not been easy running some of the programmes I've done so far but the fact that all our institution of learning in the country are realy not prepared for the training of engineers in the current emerging technologies, every engineer worth his salt must in nigeria must go an extra mile in order to stay relevant. this is my brief. thanks
hey. . .thanks, which region are you? we just might have crossed paths, you never know. . .i know a couple of people that went to Bath for their Msc's sef, one's currently undergoing his NYSC at Apo work centre(Abuja sub-region). You're right though, substation automation is the future. I know a couple of SCADA guys in Shiroro sef, some of them were operators before. . .

welcome to the thread, hope we see more of your posts. . .

^^ actually this sums its up, under this very serious state government one can procure a drivers' license by just paying the fees and snapping a pic voila!

The state government can address this issue first then make it mandatory that all drivers' actually go for a course
too many suicidal drivers in lagos
there is an institute http://www.lasdri.org/ . . .but i dont know about making it mandatory sha

post modified: according to the faq http://www.lasdri.org/faqs.php it's even compulsory for all professional drivers to attend the course sef. . .private drivers could be referred to the institute if they are caught violating state traffic laws.

Cant say much about the implementation sha(even though i suspect it isn't really implemented)

It is very immature of you to think that because I do not see this through the paranoid lense you choose to, means I am your enemy. I have simply made sure to ask you, over and over, to produce factual information on the particular laws that are being broken in this case. More than 10 posts later, none still.

Nigerians are used to fuel shortage -- it occurs most every month and so I don't see why that should be used as excuse not to get some progress now.

Yes, the government is yet to perfect it's system but we should not discount a good move that could potential save 1000's of lives from  time of implementation. I know I am tired of reading stories of people roasting alive in one tanker fire or another. If making sure only roadworthy vehicles are allowed to transport the fuel will aid in reducing the problem, I am good. If you do not like that, that is fine by me but whining because I hold a different opinion only shows you the slowpoke here.
much the same way you accuse people of not being able to substantiate their claims, you seem to have a thing for making questionable statements, fuel shortage occurs every month ke?. . .i reject it IJN.

i take it you dont want the panel specifications anymore?

I am not perturbed by your reason to influence your posting. I am disturbed that some can influence and hence enjoy the scheme because of their advantage, while others who actually experience the scheme for what it is, might feel otherwise. But like I said earlier, this is just a minor indication of a bigger national issue.
name a system that cant be gamed. . .as long as you can use a system to your advantage(without breaking the law) i dont see why you shouldn't.

As far as NYSC postings are not a level playing ground (at least to a good degree), we shall keep on seeing threads like "Is it Wise to Come Back To Do NYSC"
i dont understand how you managed to arrive at this conclusion, so if er'one(including 'returnees') was given random postings, we wouldn't have threads such as this ehn?. . .that sort of reasoning is manifestly flawed(and that's putting it lightly.)

Are you saying EVERY graduate have the opportunity to choose exactly where they serve right down to the place they are posted BECAUSE i dont know how possible it is to avoid horror stories when people have very little options on where they serve and in what capacity- I think most people understand they're going in to serve the country and conditions wont be the best but at least they'll have better experiences if their abilities are put to better use in an okay environment

stand to be corrected though, on choosing a place to serve
nope, every graduate doesn't have the chance, my point is that most people expect NYSC to be a walk in the park and you cant be farther from the truth, it's tough for a lot of people, if all the people you relate with only tell you of how they arranged to have themselves posted to their popsie's company or to XYZ place where they didn't do anything, and you fool yourself into thinking you're going to have a blast during NYSC you're on a long thing.

For most people, you get sent to a place where you dont have family and dont know anyone, you have to learn the culture of the people and learn to get along with them, you have to put aside all your misgivings and live with them not because it's easy but because it has to be done.

could you explain how the interconnection charges in telcos are handled?

logically, it seems the best thing to do would be to get the total duration of calls that emanate from a particular network and multiply it by the interconnection rate to get the charges.

or

is it calculated on a case by case basis? as in, for a 1minute call you charge 10.62(or whatever it is), for a 30 second call half of that, etc etc.

I'm trying to wrap my head about the airtel 9 naira rumours(i suspect it'll be only airtel to airtel sha).

@kobo
i dont know if you're trying to be brash on purpose but for crissakes, people are grieving, if you were paying attention you would've noticed spikey mentioned him leaving her offline messages more than 2ce esp on the first page of this thread, and yes some people know spikeys name and have seen her on his friends list, while i get what you're driving at, i think it's in very bad taste for you to come on this thread and practically insult the people here, it was glaring from the very first page that muki and spikey related with him off NL.

this thread isn't the place for any altercations or wise words of wisdom, a young man a lot of NLers have come to know and admire was cut down before he reached his prime. . .if you know that doesn't touch you enough for you to keep your trash to yourself the least you could do is carry it elsewhere. . .

I guess because it increases the credibility and seriousness of the company to be employed. If I’m going to spend thousands of dollars outsourcing to an entity in a foreign land, I will feel better knowing that the entity has a name to protect. But you’re right; it doesn’t have to be companies.

lol @ spoiling market! That's the power of the free market but there should be no reason why Nigeria can't compete on price. The cost of business can't be that far off or can it?

When I was at First Atlantic, the book was bought for everybody and was made a compulsory read. I couldnt do it, I had a bad headache by Chapter 2.

It was a difficult read, a painful read. Why I don't know. I have never felt this way abnout a book because I looovee reading and I have a personal library both fiction and non-fiction.

That is one book I have't read in my library.

I'm curious, why are you harping on companies? i know one guy that used to bid for jobs on them sites sha, he's extremely good(dont know if he still does the freelance thing though). This was back when we were in school, when we discussed it, he told me the indian programmers used to spoil market for everyone, apparently they like(d) to quote really low prices. In addition to all wallie said, all them IP bans are for the uninitiated, any serious techie that wants to bid on IT jobs and would be stopped by something as mundane as a ban on Nigerian IP addresses is a joker!(heck it's possible to choose which country you want to appear as browsing from)
