declaration of intent: i have spent the whole day listening to retards that prolly dont know how to spell the word megawatt mouthing off about the power sector on radio today so i'm not in the mood to bear with anybody's crap. IF you dont understand what goes on in the power sector, it would be best you left your opinions as just that opinions and not try to pass them off as facts because i'm not in a very forgiving mood. @kobojunkie can you please show me where jonathan promised 6000MW? he apologized for PHCN's failure to meet the target, yes but that's different from him promising said 6000MW isn't it? P.S. The fact that yar adua promised it and they were on the same ticket isn't tenable. |
ok. . .boys are in gidi for some shady biz. . . ![]() got stopped by anti-something police(dont know if it's robbery or whatever sha) there were in polo tops and jeans, their AK-47s were new. . .anyway sha, twas on Fola Agoro and it was at 9pm, i considered not stopping but they were many mennnn and as na night, liver no complete ![]() the guy sha said i should come and open the boot, i got down and he greeted me in hausa(i've got the beard thing going on so it tends to happen) and i answered him(in hausa as well, but no be hausa guy sha), i opened the boot and it was empty except for my laptop and a picture frame, the guy asked one or two questions i answered him and showed him my unilag ID and he ley me go without as much as hinting at collecting 'roger'. . . there's hope for naija afterall |
^^^ as much as i wish it were the case, it's the spambot. i'm starting to see the much talked about 'nigerian arrogance', too many people assume they're important enough for the moderators to follow them around the various sections of NL deleting their posts. . .smh |
as funny as i think this thread is https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-549966.0.html i dont think it belongs in politics. . .lol |
Chapi:you ought to be able to search them out on the internet now. . . |
the sad thing is that 99.9% of the people in these pictures will most likely compromise if they are employed by NDLEA |
Atk1nson:no they cant, the only thing Christians can agree on is that Jesus Christ is the son of God. . .er'thing else fa fa fowl |
@jamace insteading of pasting in MSWORD, why dont you go to start>accessories and paste it in paint? save it as a jpeg, that way you can paste it as a picture so we dont have to download the word document? |
^^^for the companies interested in the management contract for transmission: Power Grid of India, ESB International of Ireland, and Manitoba Hydro of Canada that was the last i heard. for generation and distribution, there's no way we'll know until the govt announces the process has begun now. . . |
oyb:so you're telling me that you can go 72hours without light? if your answer is yes, then maybe 1.The business manager in your area 'committed'. . .lol 2.The distribution transformers in your area are bad and keep tripping off. 3.The operators in your area dont like y'all. . .lol 4. etc etc ati bee bee lo. . . ![]() my point is that, no one will set out to leave people in darkness on purpose(unless you're me of course. . . ). Y'alls resident's association should go and talk to the service manager at the undertaking closest to you now. . .it just might help. Kobo's right sha, you should consider solar.the voltage fluctuation thing cant be blamed on PHCN alone, we the consumers have to bear part (if not most of the blame), esp the ones wey get more than one phase at home without any load balancing, (na the illiterates for distribution wey dey aid and abet my experience in distribution is severely limited but in transmission, when the voltage is extremely low, we adjust the taps to increase the voltage, but changing taps too frequently can damage the transformer so most times, management will eventually tell you to leave the tap changer alone. It means eventually you wont be able to do anything about the low voltage in your region. (kai see nostalgia. . .e don tay since i run shift for control room o. i miss them days ) nobody does it on purpose. as per the phase reversal, are you guys three phase customers around a large number of 1 phase customers? that's when it'd be a problem, maybe you guys should tee off at 33kV, the grid is much more stable there. The only alternative is to install variable frequency drives(VFDs). Y' all should be able to talk to PHCN people now. . .the higher-up the people you talk to the better, most of them distribution people know very little about these things esp the younger staff. maybe one of these days i should write an article about the dynamics of power supply, the public does more harm to the grid than PHCN itself and yet they are the first to blame PHCN when stuff goes wrong. as per the solar article, make i go read am first before i talk. . . ![]() okay read it, seems promising, it'll be a long time before it comes into the market though. . . |

Electricity workers in the Power Holding Company of Nigeria’s successor companies on Wednesday shut down power stations in the country including the biggest power station in Nigeria, the Egbin power station, during the national workers’ strike. PHCN’s Executive Director, Operations, Mr. John Ayodele, told our correspondent on Thursday on the telephone, that efforts were being made to bring the Egbin power station and others gradually into operation by Thursday evening. Ayodele said it would take some time to bring all the stations back into operation. The shutdowns caused a nationwide blackout between Wednesday and part of Thursday. However, analysts said the action was unusual because in previous nationwide strike actions, electricity workers hardly shut down power stations. It was gathered that the shutdown was, apart from the strike, a result of the unhappiness of the workers over the plan to privatise the nation’s power sector. However, the workers on Thursday said their inability to restore power supply to Nigerians in most part of the country was due to the continued occupation of the PHCN‘s installations and stations by armed soldiers. They named the stations under occupation as Egbin Power Station, Ikeja West Transmission Station, Ayede Transmission Station in Ibadan, Oyo State, Benin Transmission Station, Kano Zonal Office, Kainji and Jebba power stations and Gomo station in Kwara State. According to the workers, the organised labour called off its warning strike to compel the Federal Government to implement the N18,000 new Minimum Wage on Wednesday, armed military personnel were dispatched to PHCN installations nationwide, allegedly on the orders of the Federal Government. The statement reads, ”: ”It has become expedient to explain to the public why power supply has not been fully restored to some parts of the country after the warning strike by NLC has been called off. At the end of the strike action, armed military personnel were dispatched to PHCN installations nationwide, arguably on the orders of President Goodluck Jonathan.” source P.S. having the station up and running is one thing, being able to take up all the available load is an entirely different thing and it takes as much as a week. it shouldn't but we dont have the equipment that can help(well we do but they aren't working). by the way, notice how the workers tell you lies about why there's no electricity. . .i wouldn't be surprised if most of the staff talking dont know. |
@blacksta what state does she live in naija wise? if you feel comfy with it, give me the local govt area and i'll find out why you dont have electricity. @kobo tell me your LGA too, lemme see what your load allocation is. . .you do realise that 20 hours a month is less than an hour a day?. . .just saying. there's really no way to measure whether distribution of electricity is improving in naija simply because they keep very bad information at the distribution level(yep they're the cause of a lot of the problems in the power grid) |
Kobojunkie:@kobo in the very bad areas, the worst that'll happen is that they see two days on two days off, been there done that, short of an operational challenge such as a faulty transformer or something PHCN wont deprive people of light. . . it's when people go making those nobody'll miss PHCN statements that they betray their lack of knowledge. |
Jcob:guy. . .smh, e sure me die say when you bin dey type this reply the possible implications no reveal themselves to you. . .lol |
and as usual people continue to spread falsehood about the power sector and nigerians believe it hook, line and sinker. first things first. . .all the stations mentioned up there are substations not power stations secondly, the power system is a balancing act, since electricity supply(load) to nigeria was cut off during the strike, it will take a couple of days for the system to stabilize that's why power supply is more erratic than usual. @odunnu it was probably a distribution man you were talking to, a very large proportion of them are illiterates. The fact that he 'tampers' with poles and stuff doesn't automatically confer him with the necessary knowledge. @ileke-idi *sighs* dont fall for the stereotypes. . .yes the power sector in nigeria is crap, i dont think anyone denies it, but when y'all do the whole 'who will miss them' thingy, it just serves to betray how little y'all know about naija. When PHCN goes on strike, the whole nation suffers. . . do you have any idea how much fuel or diesel costs per litre? do you have relatives in naija why dont you ask them? can you imagine how PHCN going on strike would affect the supply of petroleum products? I know you've probably heard a lot about how people/companies 'run generators for 24 hours' but that's an exaggeration, |
v3:is there sp3? i think 2 was the last to come out now, here it's 349mb |
@beneli PATHS is partnership for transforming health systems and GFATM(sorry, i mispelled it)means Global Fund to fight Tuberculosis, AIDS and Malaria Since you're into Clinical Auditing, do you know about the National Health Insurance Scheme(NHIS)? you could try getting in touch with some of the different HMOs now, you could talk to them about the need to audit the various clinics in their network and stuff, if you sell yourself right then it could be a veritable Goldmine as the NHIS is growing and there cant be many people that offer that function can there? You could also write to the NHIS itself and offer your services as a consultant to train their staff and what not. All this would be much easier for you if you had working relationships with people in these sectors. That's how things work in nigeria, it might be difficult for you to come out of nowhere and offer a service. Doing that might make the sharks smell blood. |
i have HSDPA with mtn in my area but the videos still dont stream non-stop, i think i'll get a glo sim and check them out since i've unlocked my modem sha. . . |
i think one piece is boring jo. . .i read the first 50 episodes and all he ever does is that his rubber bullet punch or kick. . .BORIIINNNGGGG |
AjanleKoko: oyb:y'all have got me interested. . .i'll buy it |
@beneli you should look into partnering with other personnel in the health sector to form consultancies, there's quite a bit of funding in nigeria from foreign bodies and if you hook up with the right people you should be able to tap into it, especially if you're good at what you do. your best bet would be to establish contact with, people that consult for various health bodies(PATHS, GFAM etc etc) and be part of the various teams. I dont know how things work in your field, but i know when it comes to M&E in the health sector there's a bit of money going round for people with experience. you dont necessarily have to 'roger' people to get jobs, but you sha have to be in the correct place at the correct time and that's no mean feat. |
Kobojunkie:fayemi or oni? |
@ladi we need more than access to credit, we need to re-orient ourselves totally. We've turned rent-seeking into a culture in nigeria particularly. |
abeg for the people in naija, how does this strike thing work in relation to the private sector? |
redo the maths. . .how does thirty billion naira come to two billion dollars? |
@semid the stories i'm talking about were posted ages ago o. . .more than a year, the thread was titled stories from boarding school or something. . .i might be mixing her up with someone else sha. . . |
errrr. . .abeg you people should take it easy o. . .some of us wey never dey near management(for now) are on this thread. . .all those kain figures dey do person somehow for eye now. . .lol |
semid4lyfe:@semid lol. . .actually, the babe posted some of her stories on NL a while back, well before the book was published |
@cecegorz just found a pair of earplugs in a drawer at home, if you ever pass through abj you can have them(they're the yellow airline ones though) @9ja law that's a weak excuse now, there would've been cause for worry if either the source and/or destination of the funds were suspect, and seeing as the money will end up in a FG account, then there should be no reason for all that worry. |
candylips:not necessarily, in nigeria 1+1 doesn't always equal two, if he can get a mortgage on a decent house and rent it out he stands an extremely high chance of owning the house after a couple of years. I know a couple of family friends that own houses(i'm talking more than 4 each) that they got that way, of course, it depends on location, tenure of the loan etc woodrose:you could try hitting your head against the wall . . .tell us more about yourself jo. . .the thread says 'welcome to my office' not 'constitute a nuisance'. . .(no mind me o. . . ) |
nanachi:making a request on a forum and expecting people to mail you back in answer to your request is just plain lazy. . . http://www.electro-tech-online.com it has a microcontroller sub board it was useful during my time (if you search well, you fit even see where dem bin the taci me say i no fit be engineering student ) |
