Last I heard they were seeking a 10-day extension.
That bid is a 419 bid, if you ask me.
A consortium bid more than twice the second person, and nobody thinks something is up? New Generation bid $2.5bn, and the next guys bid $950m or something like that.
debosky:
^^

I heard Sambo has granted a 20 day extension . . .according to them the 'delays' in the process spooked their 'investors'.

Nitel isn't worth $2.5bn at the moment and I suspect this bid will go down the drain like all the others. . . .that's what happens when you form a 'consortium' overnight with no clear strategy.
er'one knows it's going to be quite a while before NITEL can compete with anyone, i dont think any serious investor would be willing to tie down such a large amount of money for a long time. . .abi na people wey don thief our money wey wan bring am back in? cos those are the only people i can think of that would be willing to tie down large sums in naija without hope of profits in the short - medium term

Longtime. . .for me, it's stocks hands down(at least for where we're at now). . .i remember when i first started following the stockmarket, i was in SS2 and Nestle was 60naira (that was more than 10 years ago), now it's 400naira. Do the Buffet-thingy, buy in a company that'll stand the test of time. I think the term 'penny stock' was overused in naija. . .me i got out of the market fast back then o. . .boys just did not have the money to tie down. . .

PoliticsRe: Sanusi Lamido Faults Sir Olaniwun Ajayi On Northern Domination by netotse(m): 11:58am On Nov 05, 2010
Sanusi has a right as a nigerian to comment on issues that affect nigeria, his position as CBN governor does not detract from that.

I think it's laudable that he would comment on issues despite being part of the elite. . .how many people in positions of authority can come out and say what they really feel? most of them shut up, take money and sell/silence their consciences in the name of 'sensitive positions'. As long is it cant be proven that his job is being affected aversely the man should go on soun jo!

pumping and wanajo are both moderators at stockmarket nigeria haven't seen all the others there but i know most people were members of that site in addition to New Nigerians.

as per the stockmart, with the reforms that are in the pipeline things should pick up, i'm talking about volume though, it'll take a while for the values of the stocks to reach those levels.

i'm trying to find out if new generation was able to meet the deadline for the NITEL meinene. . .does anyone know yet?

also, can someone explain to me why companies tend to wait for the deadline before paying? what's wrong with paying a day or two before the deadline elapses? or is it that difficult to get the money together?

Thanks for the heads up. When is the strike starting?
as per the strike newspapers say 10th, i'm suspecting government will settle them before then though. . .as for the plant, a total shut down for 8days then partial shutdown and post shutdown work for 25days, the plant supplies enough gas to power 1000+MWs, govt says they have put plans in place but i'm skeptical.

@kobo
when you make a claim, you are under obligation to support it with facts, not so?

in 2001 the budget was less than 1trillion, that alone means that your statement is false. . .that's what i was getting at.

do you have any idea what it would mean for govt to spend 1trillion on generators every year? you shouldn't make such statements lightly. . .

as per the solar thingy, there are no parts that would require maintenance. . .finito
PoliticsRe: Omatek Deploys Solar-powered Panels In Ekiti by netotse(m): 12:58am On Nov 01, 2010
Kobojunkie:
c) For the past 12 or more years, you National budget have included an average of a Trillion Naira each year  for purchase, fueling and maintenance of generators. Has that turned out cheaper for the nation than if your federal government had instead invested that money in renewable sources during that same period, rather that flushing over a trillion naira down the drain each year?
do you have any idea what our budget was this year? or indeed for the last 12 years?humour me, please back up your claim with facts/figures

Kobojunkie:
Maybe you should take time to read posts before responding. That way you do not end up making the same mistake already addressed in said post.

If you are a technical person, as you claim, why ask me that question? Honestly, we have already been through this issue on more than a thread now. So, I still wonder why exactly I would have to engage you in the very same yet again? Since you claim to have it figured out, why ask?
this is the sequence of events

ileke idi mentioned something about maintenace costs affecting the viability

i disagreed with her and told her why

you told me i was wrong,

i told you why i thought i was right and asked you how exactly i was wrong

you still haven't been able to tell me in concrete terms what makes me wrong. . .

p.s. you misused the word tubine, that's why i said you were skewing things.

firestar:
Sasuke regrets losing the only woman he'll ever love,
To a man he'll never cross, his brother, Itachi

MY ONE REGRET

Sakura used to love him so much,
She was supposed to be his,
Sakura had always been meant for him,
But he was always ignoring her,
Ignoring her for more mundane things,
Ignoring her efforts to have him notice her,
Ignoring all the times she had helped him,
Ignored all the times she had stayed beside him,
Ignored all the times he had pushed himself to the edge of death,
Only for her to bring him back,
Almost at the cost of her own,
Over and over again,
But not once had he given her the time of day,
He ignored her,
Insulted her, (Called her weak)
Underestimated her,
Broken her heart,
Over and over again,
But now Sakura had gotten over him,
And before long Itachi had taken notice of her,
Treasured her,
Protected her,
Cared for her,
Loved her,
And she fell for him.
And now after all this time,
He realizes, (It was the first time that I ever had the urge to kill my brother.)
That he loves her.
That he always had.
And that,
It was too late. (I already lost her.)
If it were any other man but Itachi,
He would have taken her back.
Fought for her,
Without a second thought. (And beg on my knees to love me once more)
But even he knows, (But I've never seen her smile like that because of me.)
When to give up, (And the reason she could smile like that was Itachi.)
He loves her,
But he'll let her go.
Knowing that,
Itachi would never,
Make her unhappy.
Even if it hurts,
He'll always watch over her,
And love her,
Until he breathed his last.
And because of that,
She'll always be my one regret.
may the good Lord have mercy on you. . .*crossing myself*

Do you folks read at all? Why would I engage in such a discussion? How exactly will a discussion suggesting that 150 million people (40 million households) build for their homes, gas turbines, go?  Who would propose or even give time of day to such?

By the way, I am also a technical person as well. I am not sure what you are getting at with the now ridiculous line of questions IF you really know as much as you claim of the technology.
as per the bolded huh from where to where? stop skewing things abeg

as per the solar thing, you're talking like all those people that use english to do all their engineering, the question i asked you was simple enough, apart from the solar panels, what other part of the solar set up will require maintenance. . .that's the only question i asked you and you haven't answered it up till now

you're making claims i dont understand in a field i have interest in, so i should just accept your word as law nii?
PoliticsRe: Omatek Deploys Solar-powered Panels In Ekiti by netotse(m): 1:46am On Oct 31, 2010
@kobojunkie
i cant remember if we've had this discussion before, but would you care to tell us how solar is a better option than the gas turbines et al?

i know quite a bit about solar installation and i'm asking you what parts you're talking about that would require maintenance, oyb came and told us batteries. . .but you keep alluding to this 24 hours thing. you're starting to remind me of Afam.

i wish you could see things from my side, you're dancing round the issue, it wouldn't be a crime if you said you dont really understand, afterall you dont work with them.

anyways, you dont have to answer anymore, i realise i might be fussing, i'm a technical person that's all.

i'll get the list and pass it on to you, there's only one american manufacturer on it if i remember correctly, the ECN gives out a lot of solar projects every year so if your panels are cheaper you could do a bit of biz with the contractors

A 24 hour installation includes more than just the panels which themselves require the occasional cleaning to maintain efficiency of the cells.

Building the website myself as we speak.
my interest in the matter is strictly professional, i'm wondering what maintenance could cast doubts as regards the viability of the project, you haven't given me any answers, each time you've alluded to the fact that it's a 24 hour meinene how does that affect things?

I know exactly what a 24 hour solar meinene requires, we(the company i work for) have executed a modest number of solar projects in nigeria so i'm far from clueless when it comes to solar power, (i'm not in renewable energy sha, even though i follow what they do).

please let me know as soon as it's done. . .

P.S. the energy commission of nigeria has a list of panel manufacturers/brand it recommends, while the list is only binding on it's contractors you might benefit from knowing them, i could get the list for you on monday if you're interested

Key --- 24hours. There is more to a 24 hour system than just panels on the roof you don't have to pay attention to.

Business is coming strong . , looking forward to xmas sales.
you're not telling me what the maintenance is o, a colleague of mine works with solar panels so in addition to having an interest with them i'm very familiar with how they work. . .you wouldn't be going over my head if you expatiated on the maintenance to me. . . grin

congrats. . .do you have a website or address, might be looking to buy panels soon
PoliticsRe: Omatek Deploys Solar-powered Panels In Ekiti by netotse(m): 1:20am On Oct 30, 2010
Kobojunkie:
It actually does need to be maintained some. This 24-hour set up will need maintenance to ensure it continues to supply 24/hr energy.

It is cheaper than total yearly cost of running a generator though. Hopefully, more and more Nigerians, rather than waiting for the Government, will realize that they loose more running those generators, and limiting themselves to so many hours of electricity each day, than they would getting solar panels and other alternative sources now.
what sort of maintenance would it need? since it's solar, the panels will need to be cleaned twice or thrice a year, LED bulbs dont need to be changed as often as incandescent ones. . .or is there something i'm missing?

in nigeria we like inductive loads and solar panels just dont do well in that area. . .

P.S. how far that your solar-biz thingy?

I'm just surprised that despite the fact that we don't get much electricity/light in school, it never bothered our progress in education sect. So imagine how this new method will help us, I hope it works.[/quote]how do you maintain solar panels?. . .part of solar energy's selling point is that it has practically no running costs when compared to other conventional forms of energy.

I just want to comment on an observation and make an appeal to everyone.

First of all, let's try to stay focused on the purpose for which the thread was created. So many questions have been answered in previous posts. Take time to read up all posts from page 1 before asking any question. I know a lot of folks who never even made a post but benefitted from the invaluable information on the thread started by the great femilangy. Take the pains to read up previous posts. It won't cost you anything.

Secondly, please proof-read your posts before posting. Be objective. Use bulleting if possible and let your question be direct. If you have to explain a situation, do so. Be careful about your punctuations too. The way your present your case will determine the kind of responses you'll get. From some posts, I can tell how frantic the poster was while posting. The point is, BE OBJECTIVE!

Also try to have a sense of privacy. No one is really interested in knowing your real name and what your pet's name is. If you have to divulge confidential info, do so to only select people who you feel are competent enough to answer your "personal" questions. If you read the thread from page 1, you'll know who those users are.
