Hmmm. . .did i achieve my goals? I decided not to go for a PG this year and stay back and work in naija. . .expected to gain experience and begin the process of becoming a bad guy in my field. On the Job front, was able to secure a job (with abysmal benefits) shortly after service, the experience(or more correctly, potential for experience) seemed to make up for the terrible terms of service, I started to learn a lot then the learning curve started to regress drastically. So in terms of knowledge, nope i dont know as much as i would've liked to know(good thing is i'm aware of areas where i fall short.) In terms of contacts n my chosen field, hell yeah . . .I i'm starting to develop a network of senior colleagues i can whine to/ask for advice(poor them right? ), i'm learning to take advantage of other people's experiences too. . . Personally, i've learnt(still learning) to be more realistic in my expectations/evaluation of events and people, I'm becoming a better, more stable and focused individual. . . Got a new job so the new year holds a lot of promise. P.S. i'm still single. . .*sob* *sob* *sob* |
oyb:thanks for the advice o. . .me i dont have energy to fight anyone , tomorrow's my last day, make i go drop their one months salary in lieu of notice. . .nothing is worth it o. . .you've been scarce sef been meaning to thank you for the book recommendation. . .sey you got enough rice for two sha? the boys are loyal! ![]() P.S. please accept my condolences on the loss of your harddrive, it will be sorely missed. |
i'm rolling on the floor laughing. . .my boss saw me printing a bulky document on the admin babes computer and fear catch the man instantly. . .maybe he thinks i'm gathering info on all his shady dealings. . .he's now trying to mask the fear. If only he knew it was "speed control of motors" i was printing. . . |
Jcob:thanks. . .hopefully you'll have time(you know you're now the busy one. . .lol) cecegorz:My brother na so we see am o. . .God dey sha. . . ![]() AjanleKoko:lol. . .thanks (well, i woulda preferred a wife, a house and 3 kids but then i'll manage this one. . . ) |
hey ppl, Ok, so after 6 months of mixed experiences, i just turned in my resignation the man is too caught up with his new contracts to really bother sha, he just said ok. . .(the evil fella wants to hold me to the one months notice or in lieu a months salary thingy in my contract. . .na God go deal with am for me. . .lol)I'm going to be moving south in the new year(not oil and gas though), this time i'll be more involved with machines sha. . . things i'll miss from this current job: Knowing what's going on in abj, i'm around some really connected people, gist dey fly wella. Lau lau. . .i rarely get to work before 9, and it's a pretty laid back atmosphere. My boss trying to code stuff from me(the man dey always fail. . .lol) My colleagues. . .i've become attached to these folks All the Mind games sha. . .i had fun. etc etc. things i wont miss. Earning peanuts(sometimes i wonder how i even came to accept the darn offer sef. . .lol) Being treated as if i didn't go to school. . .(all the assignments i dubbed cant be in vain now. . .haba!) Being passed up for field trips.(what am i an engineer for if i dont get to go to the field? )P.S. I'll gist you guys about my new job when i resume(jan 10th). . .but till then, i'm blissfully unemployed. . .lol. |
first things first, it was the LASG prosecuting Al-mustapha. . .so people mentioning GEJ are only advertising their ignorance secondly, he still has the charges for kudirat Abiola on his plate so he's not leaving prison anytime soon. He was just acquited of that case not freed |
yodiyokun:me i've attended two. . .in naija, the latest is general test, occupational test then interview in fact sef, some coys organize essay writing competition before interview sef. . . (i gather PZ cussons recently invited successful applicants to a venue to 'write a letter to your president telling him what you think are the problems of nigeria') |
^that's more like it. . . |
one mopol:@one mopol nice name. . .is that your division(abi na unit)? i live near that your barracks for abuja sef @others if my memory serves me correctly, one mopol is the mopol unit attached to presidential protection or something sha. @beaf fashola is known for not using sirens et al. so from his antecedents, it's safe to say he would probably choose the more sensible option(helicopter) if it was left to him. @blacksta wait first, knowing the little you know about nigeria, do you think the SSS will listen to the pope himself if he told them how to handle the CinCs security? it's the presidency for crying out loud, they dont have to listen to anyone(in naija. . .lol) |
axeman85:@axeman if you go before a panel and mention 2 years experience, you're likely to get a bored look. . .it isn't exactly a long time, career-wise. |
Beaf:see what is going on how? you sef know it wont be a drive, na fly the convoy go fly reach airport. as someone said, why im no use helicopter? why inconvenience citizens and possible voters just to go and launch a book of facebook quotes?. . .someone on Jonathans team is not doing his job properly.(it would be stupid to expect GEJ himself to look into such arrangements.) that said. . .i'm still going to vote for him. |
mukina2:we should be naming and shaming such. . .whether you're a 24-hr tribalist or you moonlight as a tribalist all na the same thing. . . |
cecegorz:actually, it's only junior workers that are there, the senior ones are in SSAEC or something equally funny. as per the bolded, i must confess you're right, yesterday it was at after 9.00 that majority of the workers started trooping in(a couple didn't even show at all sef), me i just dey wonder which private companies will allow it's workers to be lounging like that and still be collecting full salary at the end of the month. |
@moderators is this kobojunkii? i dont think so, he/she/it should be banned. |
AjanleKoko:i feel you on that. . .when shiroro was built, FGN offered to tar the roads and what-have-you in the relocated community but the locals declined, their reason: they didn't want cars to be knocking down their children and now they periodically prevent workers from going to work because of govt neglect |
cecegorz:that's a misconception that most people have about PHCN, there's more to PHCN than the distribution people(admittedly they make up the bulk of PHCN workers sha, so it's understandable) An analogy, Generation is the federal govt, Transmission is like the state govt and distribution is the local govt. The local govt is the arm of govt closest to the people so it has the most employees(are they civil servants), however, they are not as highly trained as the state and federal civil servants with the federal civil servants being the best trained(in nigeria). Although in practice generation staff and transmission staff tend to be pretty much on the same level. most of my PHCN time has been in transmission and we DO not deal with customers(meaning the general public). It's the old/inefficient/unqualified* transmission staff that are against privatization the competent ones(i've come across quite a number of these) wholly support it. i quickly got tired of people asking me if i used to carry ladders around when they heard i worked with PHCN back in them days. . .not every PHCN worker climbs poles. There are doctors, accountants, teachers etc working there (PHCN is second only to the NPF in terms of workforce strength) *usually union members too ![]() BTW, an engineer in transmission can work in distribution, but a distribution engineer cant work in transmission, he wont measure up to standard. |
axeman85:you could try talking one on one to the banks. . .but the way i see it, it'd have to be a personal arrangement. . .banks pay corpers about 40 - 60k per month in most places. Knowing some of the banking heavyweights could stand you in good stead to actually 'work' during NYSC. . .imo, you left it too late if you're not connected to the hilt. |
@Fl we all know they are loonies. . .it's disappointing that you would stoop to their level. . .that's what ogidi boy was trying to say |
source Two of the nation’s biggest conglomerates - Globacom, (the second national operator -SNO) and Dangote Group, are locked in a duel over control of the aerial fibre rights on the national power grid of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), Technology Times has learnt exclusively. Alheri Engineering, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dangote and Phase 3 Telecom, a privately owned company, both long distance operators (LDOs) that have sealed a deal with PHCN to run optical fibre links over the national grid of the power utility. Based on their licences and pacts sealed with PHCN, they function as carriers to other carriers by carrying traffic for telecoms operators and others, based on agreed fees. Both companies are staving off their aerial territory from Globacom, which secured a request from the Presidency to be accommodated on the PHCN infrastructure to carry its traffic, reliable sources said. The duo of Dangote and Phase 3 Telecom both have the national grid split between them to offer transmission service based on revenue sharing agreements with PHCN have resisted attempts at co-locating Globacom-owned optical fibre cables on the power grid. Both Globacom and Dangote meanwhile have declined comments on the issue even as those in the know told Technology Times anonymously that the SNO had secured a request from Aso Rock for PHCN to accommodate Globacom alongside the two long distance operators. The thinking within Globacom is that its vision of becoming a major telecoms powerhouse would be accelerated by seamlessly linking its metro, national and international fibre optic assets to the aerial transmission pathway to carry its telecoms traffic across Nigeria, insiders said. But the SNO met with resistance from the two companies that cited an agreement that they entered into with PHCN to carry traffic and share revenue with the power utility, noting that the aerial pathway is inadequate to accommodate a third player. Under the pact, PHCN will earn revenue of 2.5 percent from the companies for using its hitherto dormant capacity. It was learnt that ministry of Justice has been requested to intervene in the issue based on opposition from the existing LDOs who see the coming of the SNO as a breach of their agreement with PHCN. PHCN’s aerial transmission route is attractive to telecoms operators for its ease of rollout and the limited hurdles in acquiring expensive right of way that is a major challenge with terrestrial transmission paths. The latest feud once bring into focus the growing interest among the major players in Corporate Nigeria to partake in the lucrative telecoms industry following the 2001 GSM auctions where the early birds in the race earned dividends from the explosive market growth. Dangote, a late entrant into the telecoms game was to gain from the loss of Hakeem Belo-Osagie, the current Chairman of Emerging Markets Telecommunications Services (EMTS), promoters of Etisalat Nigeria, which is the 5th GSM network operator in the country, who lost the sale deal when the telecoms regulator in June 2004 revoked the licence of a joint venture that would have promoted a similar business with PHCN. The licence was issued the joint venture in 2000. Belo-Osagie was one of the lead promoters of NEPSKOM, a joint venture between Nigeria’s National Electric Power Authority (now renamed PHCN) and its South African counterpart, Eskom Enterprises of South Africa, to offer transmission capacity to carriers by carrying their traffic over the national grid. However, the deal fell through when the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) revoked the long distance operator licence granted Nepskom, over allegations of non-compliance with licence obligations. The N20million licence fee paid for the Nepskom venture was also lost in the wake of the regulatory hammer. Dangote and Belo-Osagie recently closed another major telecoms deal when the former sold Alheri Mobile Service, the subsidiary of Dangote Group’s holding the company’s 3G licence bought at $150million in March 2007, to Etisalat Nigeria. Financial details of the sale were not disclosed by both parties. A government source told Technology Times that the outcome of the intervention by the Justice Ministry may have put paid to Globacom’s plan to access the PHCN aerial fibre optic transmission pathway. The resistance by Dangote and Phase 3 in allowing Globacom to lay its aerial fibre optic cables on PHCN’s existing towers may have come from the revenue they will lose selling capacity to the SNO rather than becoming a direct competitor on the infrastructure, say experts. |
chukwudi44:you didn't put the voltage. . . anyways. . .use this link |

@Ajanlekoko and Jcob someone said the same thing today, me i just want this season to pass make next year start already. @thread Apparently, govt has been putting a spanner in PHCN workers' plans to protest outside HQ. . .lol. went to visit some of the people i've worked with and they were lamenting about the evils of privatization me i didn't offer my opinion(them for just shoot me. . .lol) absolutely nothing happening at work. I'm too young for this. |
Idowuogbo:dont hate ![]() i'm removing my socks o. . . |

@Nike4luv try visiting and voting in some of the other polls, you'll see it's the same thing everywhere. could you please change it back, so we dont have any idea who's leading. . . (it's more fun that way)@all so once you vote it'll look something like this(attachment below, once again i copied it from another section). . .(ignore the login or register thingy. . .it's a glitch) p.s. i only know all this cos i voted last year. . . mutter: nike4luv:there's nothing wrong with the poll, once you've voted that's how it(the login or register thingy) appears until the voting is over. . . |
@otukpo as per your bills, what you need to do is organise yourselves, go to your business unit and ask/demand that they come and read your meter(even if it is for one month that they'll use to guesstimate your monthly consumption). What's probably happening is that they(your business unit) is using an estimated bill for you and the one they're using was prolly chosen when power supply was better. You can read your bill yourself before you go and meet them sef, so you have an idea how much electricity you're consuming. It all depends on the PHCN people in your area, where i live, even when we were using a 'normal' analogue meter, it was still read frequently(this could be because it's in abuja sha, but that goes to show it's possible) The excuses they would use would be they dont have the manpower et al, but i assure you that if they realise that you aren't willing to take any nonsense they'll shape up. A lot of the staff at the distribution level are incompetent and so they need some prodding. |
galek:stop talking trash. . .how do you know okota is the most marginalized? na wa for people o. . . |
you're talking to lil ol' me?. . .of course not, *feeling like a star* ![]() |
