Beaf:
Yes, you get my support 100%. I hold the opinion that Nigerian police directly cause, as well as oil the wheels of crime. If our entire police force was to vanish in a single moment, nobody would feel anything amiss, rather life would go on much smoother than it did and crime levels would drop drastically.
Behind every successful armed robber, there is a police man; behind every road block, there is a "roger" taker; behind every armed brigand, there is a police rifle etc.

We don't need our police force; in other countries, 90% of them should be in jail.

I will add one last thing though, the police problem is just a single manifestation of Nigeria's structural malaise. There is so much for us to fix to get the place moving like an oiled machine. In a truly federal state, we would not have such a problem, in fact there would be no NPF as currently exists. Each state would have its own police that would deal with all local issues and report to the federal level. With such an arrangement, it would be difficult to polute all state forces from the federal level as currently occurs.
huh huh huh. . .i hope all is well?

a fact still remains fact whether or not it was intended to score points. . .i trust NL, someone can come on this thread and rant and rave about how ghana has constant electricity which we supply them and we dont. . .

How Reps stopped fuel cartel in NNPC –Ikisikpo
From Our reporter
Sunday, October 17, 2010

House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Petroleum (Downstream), Hon Clever Ikisikpo, has ruled out the possibility of a new regime of fuel scarcity in the country, saying the cartel in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) that creates artificial scarcity has been dislodged. Ikisikpo said in an interview with journalists that for as long as President Goodluck Jonathan remained in office, it would be difficult for the cartel to resurrect.

Ok. I now recall.

As regards politics, I cannot rule out throwing my fila in the ring later in the future, but I'll surely not ride on Saraki's back to achieve that.
But for now, let me continue battling this accounting jeje, while I come out to lend my voice to politics on pages of newspapers.
you do realise that for you to be elected into office in nigeria you need a grassroots following, that entails getting involved in the lives of kwarans if you want to avoid the whole godfather-syndrome.

@notetse

It is not like you have a choice order than looking after your own chickens. grin
guy. . .you dont know me. . . cheesy

Maple:
Anyways, instead of showcasing courtesy in a conversation were we all can learn from each other as Nigerians irrespective of where we are, you came up with a cheap low shot comment (bolded). Such attitude  is why we (Africans) have really not moved forward as we should; too much bad belle.  You want to " look after your own chickens", yet you are interested in NERC courses, does the word hypocrisy has any meaning to you?

Well, I am a proud  Nigerian living in the diaspora, and I am most proud to be working as a Professional Electrical Engineer here in North America.  Perhaps, you ought to know better, that Nigeria's utility industry is now at the mercy of expatriates for it survival. You may be looking after those chickens at home, but expatriates own the barn and run the show. Hence, my long term goal is to own the barn when I return home, instead of looking after the chickens, Kappish?
my comment wasn't meant to be a slight, i wasn't referring to you in the slightest when i talked about the chickens, i was merely saying that i intend to work in nigeria and not anywhere in the world. I apologize if it appears as if i was insulting you.

that said, if i was against anyone working outside nigeria, why would i consider a PG?(same reason i mentioned the NERC courses). All i want to do is get relevant knowledge and contribute my bit to solving the probs in nigeria, i'd be a fool to think we could do it without people like you, i may be young, but silly i most definitely am not.

of which, guy. . .you worry o, i re-read my post and i still cant pick up on how you managed to think i was insulting you from the tone, if you've followed this thread, you'll notice we're all here to help each other.

Why don't you get the e-book? iSwear, I can't believe I never got down to reading it earlier,
but better late than never.

Twilight? Never read, never watched. .I don't intend to do so, now or in any future.
this link is tres funny! >> http://reasoningwithvampires.tumblr.com/
if you liked that link, you should read Eats, Shoots and leaves by Lynne Truss

as per the e-book thingy, i just might one of these days, but you know how there are some books that you just refuse to read in anything but paperback? well C.S. Lewis' books fall under that category for me. . .

@beaf
when it comes to oyb you lose focus, that much is clear. . .i cant for the life of me remember where oyb supported the saraki's as far as i know he's rooting for ribadu(who's still not going anywhere. . . cheesy) and i even to remember him starting a thread criticizing gbemisola saraki during her assassination saga.

If you say his hatred/dislike is extreme, i'd agree with you wholeheartedly but on this saraki thing, you are yet to prove it!

the two of una's issues pass my power o. . .sometimes i suspect you guys oppose each other just for the thrill of it.
PoliticsRe: Jarus & Kwara Politics by netotse(m): 4:41pm On Oct 15, 2010
@beaf
are the kwarans complaining? or are you mistaking the kwarans for the people whose sole grudge is that the oloye(however it's spelt) is not exercising his 'power' on their behalf?

whichever state you're from, your local strongman hasn't done a fraction of what saraki has done for these people, that's why he doesn't need touts to force them to vote for him. If we look at things critically sef, what has GEJ done for the masses out of his pocket that we know about?

If you're going to complain about saraki, let it be something tangible and sensible not your usual knee-jerk reactions. . .the man has built a solid political machine, people need to stop player-hating, come sef, what exactly do you have a problem with? saraki himself or his support of gbemi?

that said, i wonder what he's high on. . .choosing your daughter to succeed your son. . .smh, the nerve of it. If there were more politicians like him nigeria would be better.

@oyb
GEJ is not a failed president. . .the ink wey them take write im name as president never even dry. . .
PoliticsRe: Jarus & Kwara Politics by netotse(m): 10:16am On Oct 15, 2010
do you guys actually get dissed about stuff like that?

i respect saraki for the hold he has, that kind of influence is possible only because some people feel too stuck up to associate with the lower class. . .saraki probably isn't the richest kwaran, but he has touched lives and how many politicians in nigeria(not just kwara) can lay claim to that?

of which does anyone have an idea how much violence is usually involved in the elections over there?

CareerRe: In A Democratic Society, Government Is Not Responsible For Job Creation? by netotse(m): 4:29pm On Oct 14, 2010
tolutara:
People what is your take on this?

I believe that is not the government's responsibility to create jobs for its citizen but to create an environment ( this includes good roads, consistent power/electricity, tax benefits etc)which fosters job creation through its small, medium sized and large corporations.

The average Nigerian complains that the reason why they haven't found a job is because the government has no jobs .

please weigh in on this,
your statement implies you know precious little about nigeria. . .

a nigerian will tell you there are no jobs not government has no jobs. . .working in government is seen as a last resort, that's why the civil service and indeed other government bodies are populated with thirdrate brains. . .it isn't as simple as you're making it out to be.

P.S. i only recently got into the labour market so i know exactly what i'm saying.

y'all are right, i think it's cause we've become caught up with the superficial stuff: certificates, degrees etc and so we just assume people to be competent simply because some pieces of paper hint at such.

and then of course, there's the almighty patronage. . .promoting people because of where they're from and who they know, the system runs more on patronage than most things.

i once heard about how people join the state civil service, rise up the ranks(much faster than normal/sensible) and then transfer their service to the federal civil service and are made perm secs and directors and so carry their inefficiency to a higher level. I mean, just look at the people we have making laws for us, some of them can barely string proper sentences together. . .

the thing dey tire person o. . .esp when you're just starting out, there are so few people to look up to.

PoliticsRe: Why Is Gej Not On Nairaland? by netotse(m): 8:21pm On Oct 13, 2010
Beaf:
Its funny that people over 35 are the most likely to vote, while Worldwide figures show that young adults hardly ever vote; they make a lot of noise, but they will not vote.

Nigeria Village Square is more relevant to politics than NL's politics section will ever be without changes. I can bet you that, before this season is over GEJ would have done an interview there. It is also more likely that Jonathan would be a member of NVS, they've got gravitas and clout as far as online politics goes.
cool it down with the wild claims. . .joining NVS ke? let him do the interview first now. . .i know there's a podcast with one of his special advisers(the one for strategy, Oronto-Douglas i think ) that sparked a thread where they contributed to put together a document with advice to GEJ though. . .as concerns them interviewing GEJ, i'd say it's still less than 50% certain. . .even though they have a better chance than most.
