Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital complex,OAUTHC and Muslims:An appeal to conscience. I'm deeply emotional about this piece which I'm about to pen down,however I will try my possible best on this piece not to be seen as a polemic but as an appeal to our general conscience as human beings. In the midst of the chaos and social media frenzy birthed to life by FIRDAOUS AMASA,I've managed to chip in some of the various injustices Muslim medical(Medicine,Dentistry,Physiotherapy and Nursing) students pass through in accomplishing their dreams of becoming a professional health worker in some of my posts. It is regrettable that OAUTHC and by extension OAU with a high concentration of eminent and well travelled scholars,has one of the most brazen and insatiable thirst for oppression of MUSLIM students. Sometimes,I was the victim and sometimes a collective oppression happens and every Muslim students pick his/her share.I was wrong to have had the impression that this injustice and well nurtured and palpable animosity are only felt by students but alas even some of our professors were feeling the heat at an ethereal altitude more than they could ever mutter. While answering questions at my Part 3 Physiology exam,I wore a petit beard and my examiner after answering his questions asked me why I was keeping my beards and told me specifically that I won't be allowed with such physical attitudes in clinical class!!A naive me had no idea of the clue he was passing out and hence no adrenaline rush. Also in part 3,against the infested waters,we wrote biochemistry examination during the time of Jumah and this anomaly continued to the clinical years when we would have block lectures on friday continuing during Jumah period. The clinical years came and I finally understood what my Physiology examiner has prompted me about.Ask anyone,you can't go to a Paediatric surgery round with a single strand of hair on your cheek.Our respectable teachers who man the unit took it as a spiritual exercise to enforce this uniformity of men with baby cheeks.It's either you shave or you fail.Worse than a plague epidemic,some of us avoided this posting by absenting ourselves. As if that wasn't enough as a repertoire, some of our respectable consultants would even call us out asking us why our trousers were jumping and in some occasions,we were sent back home or to our hostel to change the trouser to the one appropriate in their definitions. In my final year medicine exam,a consultant threatened me subtly not to attend the OSCE with any strand of beard but I had other plans.Recently, a brother in the last final year exam was commanded to go back to shave his beard at the point of entry into the much dreaded surgical exam.This singular act destabilized the brother causing him to spend more months in school than his mate. Muslim nursing students had their own taste of the sauce and they are a living witness to one of the worse tales ever which has been highlighted by PROFESSOR DUROSINMI in his article above.In 2013,they were not allowed to write exams in their HIJAB.An apparel that is only a burden to the bearer.I mean,he who has the headache feels the Pain,how come the neighbour is crying more than the bereaved?The ensuing melee created by the Nursing authorities was quickly nipped in the bud thanks to the conscious effort of our school IMAM,PROFESSOR SANUSI who also doubles as a Professor of Nephrology, and all other Muslims who stood for what was right and fought against injustice. A sister in the faculty of dentistry narrated her ordeal as she was made to stand in front of the whole class while being questioned by one of her teachers as regards why she made the choice to increase the length of her HIJAB!!Do you know why this is being psychologically downtrodden??It's like you as a Black man being questioned and made to feel abnormal in the presence of millions of white folks who do not look in any way like you!! These are the fewer examples that I'm chanced to Pen down for now and I believe that all students irrespective of creed should be treated fairly and that truth and Conscience are inseperable ideas which are like a point on a revolving cycle that inevitably affect our reflections of the past and should in similar vein condition our judgement on the present and the future. Remember,no part of MDCN rules and regulation disallowed beards or 'above the ankle joint' trousers but we understand that some people's aversion towards such 'mundane' things is stronger than the sun's pull on the earth. We are appealing to every stakeholder that knows someone that knows another someone in OAUTHC to kindly help us appeal to the authority's conscience while repealing these injustices. On another note, the death of Husayn was caused by treacherous Iranians. They kept writing letters (some historians said the letters reached 10,000) to Husayn begging him to come over to Iran and promising him their support. But when he finally granted their request to leave makkah for Iran they betrayed him and left him alone when he needed them most. The Iranians are the cause of Husayn's death. Still on the matter Yazid didn't order the killing of Husayn, he only ordered his men to prevent Husayn from reaching Kufah (now Iran). Unfortunately the army leader over did it and killed Husayn. May Allah forgive him. |

lemme simple CandP what I said to a shia on a whatsapp group. Still on Karbala, Ali was more virtuos than his son Husayn even in shia religion, Ali too was assassinated. Why do you not venerate the day he was also matyred as you venerate the day his son was killed? It's simple, your claim of venerating Husayn's death is a pretense, your real intent is to curse Muawiyah and to curse whoever doesn't curse him. And see that one saying Ali will curse anyone who... Blah blah blah blah blah I fear no one but Allah, no one has power or might to curse me. Ali is dead and gone, he wasn't able to protect himself from assassins when alive, so is it after his demise that he will be able to curse another person. Sheikhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said in kitaabul Eemaan: Whoever says innovators and sinners are disbelievers has contradicted the consensus of the companions and four imams and others besides the four imams. So every time a new person invents a new ideology we should get busy refuting him?! No! he should bring his evidence and proof. And Know! may Allah have mercy on you and increase you in guidance that: The scholars of this Ummah are not like those of past nations. Our scholars' unanimous opinion is proof! why not?! Allah made them witness and testifiers of the greatest issue in existence; Tawheed! Surah Aal-e-Imran, Verse 18: شَهِدَ اللَّهُ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ وَأُولُو الْعِلْمِ قَائِمًا بِالْقِسْطِ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ Allah bears witness that La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), and the angels, and those having knowledge (also give this witness); (He is always) maintaining His creation in Justice. La ilah illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. (English - Mohsin Khan) via iQuran So the scholars of this ummah are one of the ayaat of Allah and His proofs on His slaves in the world and the next. So we should leave the consensus of Allah's Ayaat for someone who can't recollect and spell just the name of one book?! Surah As-Saaffat, Verse 154: مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? (English - Shakir) via iQuran may Allah increase us in Taofeeq and save us from delusion of grandeur. |

Empiree:Empire.eee you and these your flimsy doubts. Actually musaabaqatul Quran is included in the hadith as explained by ibnul Qoyyim in Al-furoosiyyah. Looking at those three we see that they are means of jihad therefore anything that strengthens and encourages the Muslims in preparation also takes the same ruling with those three eg car race, quiz in engineering, software programming, physics, chemistry etc if they are done to encourage and strengthen the. uslims for jihad. If that is clear, let's go to musaabaqatul Quran. What is the essence of Jihad? isn't it to remove any obstacles in the course of spreading Islam? Therefore the aim of Jihad is to aid in spreading Islam, so also is Learning Quran, Sunnah and other ISLAMIC sciences. Rather, knowledge is a greater means of spreading Islam than jihad. Seeking and teaching knowledge is the greater. So it has more right to be competed in. This analogy I've done is called Qiyaasul Awlaa. The messenger alyhissolaat was salaam only mentioned those as examples in the hadith. may Allah grant us Taofeeq. Also, congregational tarawee was not commanded by nabi(saw). The sahaba simply joined him for 3 days before he stopped it. However, S.Umar(ra) ordered congregational tarawee for proper coordination. He tagged it bid'a hassana. He did not "revive" this congregational sunnah. The only way you can successfully refute this is by briing up evidence that nabi ordered sahaba to form congregation behind him in taraweeAnother flimsy claim. No No no. He -alyhissolaat was salaam- stated the reason why he didn't want to continue congregational tarawee and that is the fear that will be made obligatory and he -alyhissolaat wassalaam- feared that we won't be able to bear the burden. However, after his demise -alyhissolaat wassalaam- there is no new legislation because Islam has been completed so the companions -ridwaanuLLaahi alyhim- continued it because he -alyhissolaat wassalaam- wanted it to be so but had fears. And those fears are no more. As the principle says:الحكم يدور مع علته وجودا وعدما Rulings move with their cause in presence and absence. ie if the cause is present then the ruling is present but if it is absent the ruling is absent. In summary these are not innovations, rather they are under the texts of the Quran and sunnah. |
