@larez

I don't know about the rest of Edo state, but in Benin City, most areas get more that 7 hours of electricity a day.

I know how bad the electricity problem is in Lagos. In some areas in Lekki, you should be grateful to see 4 hours of electricity in a week. To think that there was a time before the 1998 that there was light for up to two weeks at a go in this same Lekki.

Back to the protest, it is going to be very peaceful. We would have a way of identifying ourselves so any "odd" individual spotted would either be excused out of the area or put under citizen arrest.
My people, don't fear. "una too dey fear for the thing una nor see". You have been afraid for a hundred years now, what has improved? Have things gotten better? If dear and cowardice have not worked for the entire century we've been trying it, why not experiment with assertiveness and bravery.

@Segunright

I really hope you're joking. Please be joking. I don't want to believe you really thought this thing you typed.

I prefer the worst democratic government compared to the most benevolent dictatorship.

I have often wondered the criteria used to assign police aides to citizens. I started to believe it was based on the level of "bigmanness".

I believe Onovo will do well, but I also believe he will get sacked if he is too good at his job. I hope he can learn from Ribadu and El Rufai. If he's going to make changes, he can't be this drastic and he shouldn't start from the policy makers. They could use their policy making ability to unmake him.

He should start from detention anomalies and the N20 roadblocks first that don't disturb the politicians at first, but relieve the masses. Then when he has built up a very good name, he can begin to inconvenience the bigwigs.

I believe in Onovo, but if he comes out with this kind of attitude, "they" won't let him get anywhere.

We need more policemen in the field. Imagine 1 in every five policemen paid from the Federal Budget are in private service. All that rubbish offer to end.

I believe that the FEC have to review their paper to ensure that the EFCC and some other critical position holders have police protection.

@tiptess

I believe Onovo was saying that those who feel they need protection but are not in the list should apply for their PRIVATE security. Not for them to apply to the police again. In times of genuine security threats though, the police can be called in and that is something that is done for every citizen in dire need of it.

I also suggest that banks pay a lot for police security per minute when conveying their bullion vans because I see them hold down our security personnel and keep us exposed to danger.

All in all, I'm happy Onovo is there.

Politics › Re: Are We Truly Ready For A Revolution by nex(m): 6:06pm On Aug 06, 2009
I can join the revolution, if not start it myself. I just don't believe now is already the time. Perhaps between October 2009 and October 2011, if things continue this way, then I'll have no choice.

The only thing that can lead me into the revolution sooner than that is a military coup. If the military should take over at any point in the future of Nigeria, I'll fight them till either I die, or they die and I take over the government from them.

I tell you, the time is nigh.

I dey try main with you since. You no gree. Which way? We must stop insulting people just because we have contrary views to theirs. If everybody starts insulting on the forum, they'll be total chaos. You know I'm for peace even before you mentioned. So peace it is.

When we share the same views, we discuss them and compare points. When we're of different views, we table our points in a civilised manner. Thank you my brother.

Such an slowpoke as you alone can refer to expediency as lack of proper planning.

Ibime, I can promise you that there are threads on Nairaland that can accommodate the moronic thinking of your deranged mindset. Don't bring it to politics.

I've realised that you amassed you political know-how from watching CNN. Do you really think that is enough to discuss the issues into which you delve?

Since you were dropped on your head moments after you were born, whether by some error or to fulfil your destiny of idiocy, don't blame it on us. We weren't at the brothel where it happened.

@Ibime

the words you type on this forum are but a mirror reflecting your imbecility. From the way you express yourself, I can visualize the spittle dripping down the side of you mouth.

Your mentality of democracy as voting is what has dwarfed you progress and future. Democracy encompasses everything the people do to ensure that they are in control of the power. If you and your Zimbabwean brothers choose prayer and fasting for death, then be satisfied with what you get.

When you condemn the speed with which Mugabe seized lands from white farmers and handed them to the African labourers, I see either ignorance or stupidity in your thought process. Either you do not know that the re-allocation of lands had been going on for years or who have not enough brain matter to decipher what's really going on.

Please go back to your MEND threads where you can speak A now and B later. Go back to your Gbomo Jomo tales where you can vouch for some freedom fighter today, then tomorrow you'll call same a criminal opportunist.

Whatever you do, just stick to threads with users at your level of mental challenge.

@viclee009

the USA will not allow any of It's firms build a nuclear power plant in Africa that will function. They they have strong rules against divulging sensitive technology. In the same vein, any Chinese company that helps an African country develop nuclear or satellite technology will be blacklisted by the USA. But some of these Asian companies can deal with that.

Eskom from South Africa can handle that kind of contract without caring about a USA Government blacklist. They never seek any business in the USA in the first place. Then of course a firm working for the Chinese Government can come once in a while to evacuate the enriched nuclear material.

Like I said before, all those fearing for Nigeria's inability to handle nuclear reactors should realise that we've been running one for about half a decade now with no issues (the NIRR-1 in Kaduna).

The next thing to consider is deregulation. If NEPA or PHCN don't want to change, we can always licence other companies that would only need the backbone of NEPA, which is their powerlines and possibly the transformers.

I don't know what you all want to do, but on October 1, I'm sending a message to the civil servants I employed to do the job. LIGHT UP NIGERIA!

@Dis Guy

the complicated issue I didn't have space to discuss earlier was the possibility of damming the Niger River by any of the other West African states. However, how well is Kainji dam doing today that we keep sending out about the same amount of electricity we originally promised to these country even when it is now coming from our Thermal plants. As for me, Kainji dam should be dismantled. Let any country that wants to dam it go ahead. Electric power today can be generated today in more efficient and cheaper ways.

To me, the power sector can be fixed by the principles that fixed the telecoms sector. Though I can promise you that if we keep listening to those countries that enjoy Nuclear Energy yet say we shouldn't, we will not get anywhere.

I'm not saying we shouldn't incorporate Coal and Natural Gas where they are abundant, but if we don't shake of our colonial thinking right now and do what's best for us, we will never get anywhere.

Some people will say "NUCLEAR?! We can't manage. There will be a disaster". The truth will show you that Nigeria has had its prototype Nuclear Reactor running in Kaduna for years now and it hasn't blown up.

The Niger Deltans has been separated into the TRUE and the OBJ Niger Deltan, the terrorists have been segregated into the criminal boys and the innocent bunkering men, the package seekers have been separated into the Boyloaf Harries and the Asari/Gbomo Alaibes, MEND has been divided into the Delta and the Bayelsa MENDs. Oya, continue! It will soon get to the Asaba warriors and the Warri crusaders.
Politics › Re: Old Mugabe ally dies in Zimbabwe ! by nex(m): 5:16pm On Aug 05, 2009
In other words, Mugabe is still alive and well and nothing has changed.

These Zimbabweans will suffer on. They've not seen anything yet. Since Africans will not exercise their democratic rights and act up but are waiting for nature, ageing and death to help them out, they're going to have a long wait.

Here's wishing Mugabe long life and prosperity.

Gbomo Jomo does not exist. It is just an invented ID like the one you use on Nairaland and anybody in MEND can assume the identity of Gbomo Jomo.
