okokomeji: @Jakumo Without being ostentatious or pretentious, you could have easily put your writing in lowest form of comprehension. I read your comment with such a perfunctory act of ambivalence. First of all, I commend your catchy opening throughout the first paragraph; but in second paragraph, you seemed like incriminating yourself by lauding the belligerent acts of so-called “Honorable representatives,” and lampooning the legitimate criticism by Nairalanders. If your writing is so ambiguous that only few can discern the icy on your sugar, it’s called noise in English and could be catastrophe sometimes due to various mis-interpretations.
I may draw the analogy to relate what happened to a grammarian in Lekki, Lagos. His house was on fire and he wanted to call firefighters to say: “my house is on fire will you come to my rescue?” And he said “hello! Is that the combustion’s officer, please gravitate and expedite me fire-trucks with a tremendously supersonic acceleration in alacrity, because a gigantic and cumbersome conflagration had evolved and engulfed in my domicile.” To cut the story short, his mansion was completely razed by fire; because the fire-fighters thought he was speaking in tongue. If he could have spoken in layman understanding, his mansion would have been saved. Nigerians and big grammer. Fact b say the 2 honourables being fight. Period,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,! |

my submission is as follows;
1. since he is an orator, he is a very big criminal of the political order. 2. since he is a law breaker(sorry law maker), he is more than incompetent as our law makers are the most lazy groups in the govt. 3. if u like him so much, tell him to go and enjoy whatsoever he has gathered or will gather as a law breaker with his family before the prayers of sufering and dying nigerians will befall him and his family. 4. now that we do not know him, he can avoid been in our prayer point.the next time i will talk about him, i will not be this kind. I hope the campaigners are listening to the people's verdict. |
Business › Re: Best Nigerian Bank? by Nezan(m): 10:56am On Jun 29, 2009 |
nethacker: This thread has lost its meaning! Its been hijacked by "self-interest" of some banks-staff, with their dubious hiding behind computer screen to praise their bank to high heavens!
The thread was meant only for "customers" to evaluate and give their opinions, not some job-seeking Youth-Corper or some staff like "nethacker" to come and clandestinely infiltrate opinions in the favor of their employer!
Having said that, as a customer with accounts in GTB, ZENITH, UBA and FIRST BANK, out of these four, UBA is the worst, in terms of rip-off charges and customer service. There was this day l was at the Obalende immigration office for my Passport renewal and had some "waiting-time" on my hands. I decided to use the opportunity to withdraw money from UBA branch at the Passport office, at Obalende. They told me they only accept cash and fair enough, l proceeded to the one at the Obalende B/stop (My account is domiciled in V/I).
Now, l was told that they would charge me some hefty percentage (and it was a huge amount l was withdrawing) for UP-COUNTRY withdrawal! Now, in-case you've not noticed, the "Up-country" is between Victoria Island branch and Obalende branch (less than 10km away)!! To cut a long and annoying story short, l thanked them for their "services", took my time and came back the next day. I CLEANED MY ACCOUNT and left some #30,000 naira emergency fund for them to play with. It's been almost a year now and l dont even bother to check the account anymore.
I should also mention that l find it funny that Nigerian banks, including GTB are charging us horrendously for acquisition of "Their TOKEN"? Why must we be charged for every technology-implementation that the bank does? These things are done to secure transactions and make their job easier, and for these we already pay "bank charges" and they also use our money to "create wealth" for themselves through "loans and financing", WHY CHARGE US AGAIN FOR SOMETHING AS BASIC AS TOKEN?
I would still rate GTBank customer service highest and let no man deceive himself, a lot of staff at the "back office" also deserve credit since if not for their efficiency, that "Customer Service" can easily become "Customer horror"!
Finally, please let those GTB staff lurking around here tell their Managers to instruct their Ilupeju branch to stop harassing customers over use of Mobile phone in the banking hall, its an OUTDATED DIRECTIVE.
In summary: Long term safety of funds: First Bank Efficiency : GTB/ZENITH Customer Service : GTB Obnoxious charges and bad manners: UBA I dont want to go into "staff appearance" since this is closely tied to how much the bank pays its staff but First bank staff should either wear well-made Suits or wear" Buba and Shokoto", in the alternative! Looking like a scare-crow just for the sake of wearing a Suit is a dis-service to Corporate dressing! Pay your staff some sizable dressing allowance, abeg, First Bank,

TV/Movies › Re: Can Nollywood And Bollywood Ever Work Together? by Nezan(m): 11:57am On Jun 26, 2009 |
edogram.: Bollywood’s no. 1 spot threatened by Nigeria’s Nollywood May 8, 2009 posted by indiatime | Bollywood, the most prolific producer of cinema in the world, may soon be losing that crown to a place that seems to have quietly surpassed every other cinema-producing country and is now closing in on India’s heels. Unesco’s institute for Statistics has just released a global survey on the state of cinema in the world, and places Nigeria’s Nollywood ahead of Hollywood, but just a few steps behind Bollywood.
According to the survey, here are the top movie producing countries for the year 2006
1. India (1091) 2. Nigeria (872) 3. United States (456) 4. Japan (417) 5. China (330)
But the US beats everyone else in terms of the number of cinema houses
1. United States (38,415) 2. China (37,753) 3. India (11,183) 4. France (5,362) 5. Nigeria (4,871)
The statistics on Nigeria seems to be a little skewed however. First of all, most of Nigerian movies are digital format movies, shot in 2 or 3 weeks and then distributed through an informal and a non-institutionalized chain of home theaters and private cinema houses. That is not how Hollywood or Bollywood or the Chinese or the Japanese cinema make most of their movies. By those standards, Youtube might soon become the highest cinema-producing place where hundreds if not thousands of short movies are produced and released every minute of every day.
Plus Bollywood itself is much more than Mumbai’s film production companies. In fact, the number of Telugu and Tamil films produced closely rivals that of the number of Hindi-language films produced in India. That again, is another specialty for India where regional films are just as popular as the national-language ones. But Indian cinema has a solid history of over a hundred years - Cinema was introduced in India in the last years of the 19th century, and the first indigenous movie production occurred back in 1913. In fact, even back in 1930s, India was said to be churning out over 200 movies per year.
Another factor to consider is the popularity and the longevity of the movies produced. Hollywood and Bollywood have repeatedly shown that capability (though Bollywood’s may be based more on the musical numbers). Nigeria has yet to show solid results on that front. So even if the Nigerian cinema is considered as mainstream cinema for the sake of discussion, it is still a bit of a stretch to consider it on par with Hollywood or Bollywood.
Not that I consider Bollywood on par with Hollywood in the first place. Personally, I think Bollywood’s quality has continued to deteriorate and erode over last few decades. In fact, if you look at the list of highest grossing Bollywood movies there isn’t a single movie, not a single one I repeat, that will make it to the all time Bollywood classics on my list. Unless one begins to adjust for inflation and this and that and what not. It’s almost as if Bollywood stopped making classics sometime in the 1970s. I wonder what happened.

Light on May 8, 2009 10:39 pm I had seen some good films like Ankhio ke zarokho se, Damad,Golmal,Shaukeen,Julie,Des Pardes,Aandhi,Amanush,Khubsoort,Chupke Chupke etc, All these films were family entertainer with some of the best songs. Gradually our film makers lost their creativity and had started copying Hollywood badly.Rich businessmen who had no idea about films dumped huge money in bollywood. Now modern cinema has lost all its senses, one can’t see a film with family,so much sex and violence. But theres some good films I have seen recently The wednesday,Aamir. Theres no shortage of themes in country like India, but film makers must have a fire inside to do somthing fruitful.
Jithin on May 10, 2009 12:17 am First of all Bollywood does not produce 1091 movies. Its the total of all the regional film industries of India. And to tell you the truth Bollywood is a joke.
Ramu on May 16, 2009 8:21 pm Indian movies: 1. The gun always rules except that the hero almost never dies 2. Male chases female endlessly 3. Audience expecting when the couple will engage in lips-locking 4. Cheap Hollywood ripoffs can still attract millions 5. Actresses are more willing at flaunting their cleavage in almost every movie (Aishwarya, Shreya, the Arora sistas, you name it) 6. Oh yes. Sex scenes (yes, ones involving nudity) will very shortly make their appearance in the late 2010s.

The PDP Government of the day needs rebranding (cos its branded with, thuggery, rigging, political killings, corruption and other vices); the president needs rebranding (he is slow, dull, inefficient, ineffective and an 'agendaless' being); Dora needs 'REREBRANDING' ( cos she branded herself as a woman who knows where she was going when in NAFDAC, she has now rebranded herself as a cohort of the worst party in Africa. Insincere, focusless and jobless. So, she needs rerebranding). If these three Rebrandings can be done, then the Job is 90% done. NIGERIA, GOOD PEOPLE, GREAT NATION Haba, my people |
