Sleekbaby: Please I need urgent and clear answer on this. An assignment was given to my niece to complete the following sentences with (a) or (an) and one of the questions is -------------- happy girl.
I told her to fill it with (a) but the teacher marked it bad, I wrote on the book and asked if the "H" is silent in happy and she wrote back that it is a vowel.
I want to go there tomorrow but I want different views on it first. It depends where in the English speaking world you are. Outside of Nigeria, please pronounce the H. |

This man has set an example with courage and the choice to make a difference. This is a quality that each person can tap into, and a choice that everyone can make, in the course of their daily lives. This man has set an example by doing so; let us applaud him! Next time, instead of saying "that person in trouble is a stranger to me, I don't owe them any help", offer help...no need to wait for a burning building or life and death drama...can we challenge ourselves to make this a daily practice for a month? And then lose track of what month it is? |

Prophet777: Only 16 points out of all what you tabled above can be provable or considered as blunders.
There is what we called Discourse Analysis and the Law of Mother's tongue in English. Any writing, response or conversations in line within these categories cannot be said to have falling shorts of the rules guiding the Use of English or termed as blunders... Hahaha! Is this deliberate? Am I the only one laughing out loud? I am not quarrelling with the thrust of your argument...just the image of the falling boxer shorts... What were you thinking about while typing? But since the topic is grammatical blunders, may I observe that a common "deviation" of Nigerian English from standard English, is to use the present participle and past imperfect interchangeably ( being and been being notorious examples). Case in point here. If expressing these thoughts in other English speaking countries, fallen short is the form to use. Peace. |

Michellekabod2: As a virgin, i still advocated against the shaming of virgins! So don't always relate it to being a thing of painment! I do question society,I do question religion,I do question lots of norms...this ain't a gender war from me or justifying waywardness....this is me questioning stuffs going on. I do question why guys are being broke shammed and not girls ,I question why men victim of domestic violence I not pitied . ..today i came across the op and decided to look at it.... Who are the society if not us? You and I? We both have the right to chose what we want. We are it,not inferior to society, our choices and decisions are as standards as the society own... Is the"society" giving right judgement? Is the society ain't at promoting morality by shaming just females for sexuality? I can swear that if society frowns at waywardness from both males and females there will be less moral depravity! Our reason for education is to change the world and mold it,not to come accept whatever trash we find... If people didn't fight racism, and accepted it as the norm, then I guess you know the repurcussion . If killing of twins was not discouraged by Mary slessor, well...
So society is shaped by us. And I particularly reject injustice on any gender Thank you for saying clearly, the obvious, which nobody else seems to see. |

There are two sides to prostitution and the sex trade generally. One is the prostitutes, strippers, etc. The other is the clientele. Why is one half of the equation arrested and punished, but not the other? Shouldn't the two parties in the matter either both be punished equally, or both be allowed to go about their business, equally? |

franchasng: My brother is it today you realized that majority of Nigerians don't have sense
Instead of Nigerians to focus on protesting and addressing the political woes in Nigeria which gave birth to every other nonsense happening in Nigeria today, they are busy wasting their time on nonsense rape accusation.
If Nigeria is working politically and leadership wise, there will be working Police and working judicial systems to address any rape issue and get the victims prosecuted without delay which will put fear in the hearts of future rapists not to try, knowing if they do, the law will catch up with them.
So safarigirl you and your likes should focus your efforts on addressing the Nigerian political mess first in order to get Nigeria working first, once that is addressed, rape and even sex for grade by lecturers and sex for jobs and sex for promotion will all die natural deaths or reduce to barest minimum.
All these noise about Busola Dakolo rape accusation is a waste of time honestly, Nigeria is going through a political mess right now and you guys are wasting time chasing clout in the name of whatever nonsense Franchsang, I would like to put a different spin on your objections. I agree--on one level, the fuss about this one rape case trial by social media, by people who weren't there, is a waste of time. HOWEVER: This case opens the conversation on social attitudes on rape; just one of many areas of Nigerian society that is ailing, and failing its members. Nigeria is not working politically and leadership wise, and simply waiting for that to change for the better, on its own, may be a long wait--agreed. But as policy and leadership are outgrowths of the society that they govern and lead, changing the society that begets its leadership, is the way to change its leadership. Discussing the dynamics of rape so they are better understood, and the current attitudes toward, and justification of, rape--for example--to start convincing people to change their views, IS a step toward healing the society that permits its leaders to rape it repeatedly. This IS a step toward repairing the political mess--raising awareness, increasing engagement, and reducing apathy within the population. Attitudes toward leaders, and attitudes toward rape, are not separate things. The same dynamic is condoned, and at work, in both the political and social spheres. The social sphere is where each individual can, right now, reevaluate and adjust his or her attitude toward rape (in this case), and toward the society they want to live in, and create, through their own behaviour and participation. It is in discussions like these that individuals can evaluate and adjust their attitudes toward the kinds of leaders they want to raise and elect. There is a great deal of hard truth in what safarigirl wrote. Remove the Busola/Dakolo references if they bother you, and take the rest to heart, and to mind. *edited for clarity |

Crime › Re: RAPE: FAQ On Nairaland Since The COZA Saga by NiCurious: 4:15am On Oct 13, 2019 |
PoliticalWitch: Hmmm
Looking at this from another angle, the problem with this rape case is simple.
A lot of Nigerian young guys worship success, and Fatoyinbo is the epitome of that success.
He is a guy who has apparently come from nothing to acheive something. The fact that the women are accusing him sounds , to many of thise success worshippers , like pull him down syndrome. Hence, their attempts to defend Fatoyinbo.
Another issue is this harsh but painful fact (sorry ladies, I'm going to he a bit harsh on you). A lot of Nigerian young men have been at one time or the other dumped by a girl they were in a relationship with, or at one time dissapinted by a girl they had a crush on, for another man who is 'richer' than they are. This colors their preception of women to a large extent as betrayers.
Again, a lot of women in Nigeria are 'materialistic'. I guess poverty too plays a role. Women in Nigeria have to often times make choices of men base on whether the man can take care of 'her family' Love ain't got nothing to do with it. Add the image put in many girls heads that the 'man is suppsoed to take care of the woman'....
Finally, a lot of guys in Nigeria don't know how to talk to women. They grow up in houses where their fathers rule the roost, being abusive to their wives, or being poorly communicative to their wives. They also have a lot of bad examples from other guys. Throw in our culture's commodificaiton of women, and that adds up to a very flawed view of the average Nigerian woman by the average Nigerian man. Made worse by the fact that most women aren't the doormats of yesterday.
Hence, that's why Busola isn't beleived. By many Nigerian men. Because of mistakes made, hearts broken, materialism, and flawed perceptions...at the end of the day, a rape victim is just another bad woman who 'probably enjoyed it' and 'is looking for more money'
Life. PoliticalWitch, you have said succinctly, what I have been trying to put into words, from my observations. You have said what I would have said, only better...until the last paragraph...where I hope that what you mean is "Because of mistakes made, hearts broken, materialism, and flawed perceptions...at the end of the day, a rape victim is perceived as just another bad woman who "probably enjoyed it" and "is looking for more money". |

luluosas: See my dear Nicurious, your assertion that he was forced into accepting being the rapist was wrong. I for one will never agreed to be in anything (crime or not) that I know I was never involved no matter the threats. So, that was my point for my response. I am so sorry if I offended you in the process. Cheers. You did not offend me; I just did not see into your mind, so thank you for explaining...not everyone is strong willed under torture, as you say that you would be. May your resolve in this never be put to the test. As for the robber in the center of this story, we are yet to discover whether his confession is true or not. To belabour the point, I don't believe I asserted that he was forced into accepting the accusation...only that he may have found it expedient to falsely confess, in order to make the torture stop...he may not have your fortitude. And if it is the case that he confessed falsely, the actual culprit is presumably still at large. This is a danger of a confession obtained through torture: that it may serve against justice in the long run. |
Crime › Re: Man Who Rapes People's Wives In Delta, Caught, Tied & Almost Tortured To Death by NiCurious: 6:49am On Oct 10, 2019 |
luluosas: You are not reasoning coherently Please educate me as to how my reasoning is incoherent. He was evidently up to no good on this occasion; I don't contest that. Whether he was the robbing rapist in previous incidents, is uncertain, given his confession was obtained through torture and not by positive identification. |
Crime › Re: Man Who Rapes People's Wives In Delta, Caught, Tied & Almost Tortured To Death by NiCurious: 4:36pm On Oct 09, 2019 |
Yep, he was caught breaking into a house to rob, carrying a firearm or facsimile of one...that is indeed a crime...but his confession to being the local rapist was extracted under torture, which brings its validity into question. People being tortured might make any confession, true or false, in order for the torture to stop. Without being positively identified by the women who were raped, he is only allegedly the rapist. And if it's not in fact him, the real one is still at large. |
Family › Re: Why Turning A Tomboy Or Tomgirl Is Self-Conflicting by NiCurious: 8:57pm On Oct 08, 2019 |
Beyond just plain ENJOYING playing football with the guys?
[assuming that tomboys = girls who like to dress boyishly and play "boy" games with the boys]
Another reason you might find a girl acting tomboyish, is when she perceives that only males are respected and compensated for their contributions. She knows how people tend to be blinded by stereotypes, and prescribe for other people how they "should" behave, irrespective of their talents and preferences. If by birth she is "supposed to" sit on the sidelines, wear pink dresses and play with dolls, and follow after boys--in spite of the fact that she has much of value to contribute and which would be valued if she were male--she might reject a feminine appearance to make others take notice of herself for herself, to be heard, and fully express herself and her gifts, and be herself.
A tomboy can be a strong individual reacting to social norms that are too narrow and short-sighted. She is finding another way to be herself, when the first path is closed to her. |
