The Pope publishes final instalment of life of Jesus https://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/2012/11/564d8bf4-939d-49d0-8f4b-069efa137d8dMediumRes.JPG A million copies of the book go on sale from Wednesday The third and final instalment of Pope Benedict's biography of Jesus is published on Wednesday. One million copies of the book, Jesus of Nazareth: The Infancy Narratives, have been printed in eight languages. It analyses the gospel narratives from the birth of Jesus to his presentation in the temple at the age of 12. The book is signed "Joseph Ratzinger Benedict XVI", meaning that it is an academic work, rather than papal dogma that cannot be contradicted. Pope Benedict reaffirms the importance of the Christian belief in the virgin birth, that Jesus was not conceived through sexual intercourse but through the Holy Spirit. He argues that it, together with the resurrection, are "cornerstones of faith" because they demonstrate God's power over matter. But he debunks several Christmas traditions, including the year of Jesus' birth, which the Pope argues was miscalculated by a monk. Another sacred cow he tackles is the presence of animals at the birth in a stable in Bethlehem. He argues there is no evidence in the Gospel for that, but says images of oxen and donkeys have become such a staple part of the Nativity that they are now accepted. The Vatican spokesman, Father Federico Lombardi, said Pope Benedict had devoted "all his free time to bring to fruition this project, which he wanted and loved". In the coming months, the book will be translated into 20 languages and sold in 72 countries around the world. . SOURCE |
His most likely destination is the Austrialian A League. |
He's not retiring, just quitting Galaxy! www.nairaland.com/1108314/david-beckham-quit-l.a-galaxy#13034901 |
David Beckham to quit LA Galaxy next month https://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/64248000/jpg/_64248028_64248024.jpg David Beckham is leaving LA Galaxy next month after six years at the club. He intends to quit after playing in the season-ending Major League Soccer Cup on 1 December. In a statement Beckham said: "I've had an incredibly special time playing for the LA Galaxy, however, I wanted to experience one last challenge before the end of my playing career." The former England captain, 37, began his career at Manchester United where he won six Premier League titles. As well as winning the Champions League at United, Beckham spent four years at Real Madrid from 2002, before moving to the United States in 2006. Beckham had an option on the contract he signed in January to stay for another year with the Galaxy. But rather than commit his future to the MLS club, he will leave after helping Galaxy defend their title against the Houston Dynamo. "I don't see this as the end of my relationship with the league as my ambition is to be part of the ownership structure in the future," Beckham added. Beckham's initial contract with the league included a clause allowing him to be involved in owning an MLS expansion team down the line. Football Federation Australia last week claimed they had been approached by Beckham's agent with a view to the player spending a short stint in the A- League. The move was denied by the Beckham camp. Beckham's stint in Los Angeles brought success in the form of the Galaxy's third MLS Cup crown last year. But he also faced repeated criticism from some of his own fans for a perceived lack of commitment to the cause. Twice he moved on loan to AC Milan during the American off-season. The second time, he tore an Achilles tendon that kept him out of a large part of the following MLS season. Beckham did win over fans in recent seasons though and was voted the league's best player by supporters. . . SOURCE |
Cuddlemii: There was no need for that because we are not new in the game.Fair enough, but there really are no wastages when it comes to knowledge acquisition. Cuddlemii: Well, most debates don't give the audience an opportunity to vote at all.Oh, I see Well allowing users that registered 3 months prior to the debate should eliminate that threat nah, no Or better still, eliminate the audience voting ish entirely. ![]()
shey you no sabi the meaning of past tense. why are you bringing up old wounds. abeg lets move on. culture, politics dem go see you for all the debates. waka far or go do your own make we see.
Hey Mister, have you been e-stalking me ![]() Anyway, if you've been seeing me slithering through and around so much, its because I am diverse, vast, and I value knowledge acquisition. You should too. You don't know how much I'm looking forward to the argument of those who dared to be in the corner supporting child soldiers. ![]() This already guarantees the debate would be interesting and very knowledgeable |
cuddlemii:Ok. I hope this finally works out. Perhaps if you had taken my advice on one of the earlier threads you closed about learning from the politics section's debate planning and debate proper threads, all these rag-tag dilly-dallying would have been avoided. I'm not entirely sure about the logic behind this, considering the fact that a good number, in fact majority of the debaters themselves are not that old on this forum. I think it's only fair that you allow members/audience to be as participatory as . Consider this a "feedback". |

Doyin Okupe is an old senile and angry dog that has outlived his relevance (if he ever was). He also does his talking before thinking too. That's the only way to explain his constant, senseless and verbose prating. |
Unbelievable!!! I sincerely hope he is completely innoncent as he claims o, cos woe betides any man convicted of killing those people. Maybe he's really being framed up, cos how will someone undo the expertise of that shooting by being reckless a couple of days later? I pray the investigators are meticulous to detail. And what about the hunch of Mr Saad's sibling he had a dispute with? Never rule out anything here. Has that little girl come around? What evidence was she able to give. Also grill that cyclist that first saw them after the shooting some more. All these are crucial to this cold blood annihilation. |
caukerzee: i dont need to list their trophies for you. you are obviously looking at how long they have stayed in their clubs. it will be best if you research yourself. i will understand if you say giggs or scholes but cassilas like seriously?? in the last four years alone, xavi has won 17 trophies iker has won just 6.Who dey talk longetivity? He knows his babas dem in that regard. What I'm say is, Xavi clearly isn't the most decorated player still present in the game as you would have us believe. Kapish. |
honeric01: My last comment to you, i sent you 2 different websites out of thousands out there, you can believe whatever you want to believe. Even if you believe Alonso is a goal-keeper, it's your choice.Lol.... 2 billion websites can never describe his role better than the people he works for, can they? Ciao. |
honeric01: Help yourself, get some education before it's too lateLol... You are clearly confused... Lol Why should I believe what's on that page? Cos that clown assigned the roles in football? Lol Thanks, but I want to believe wiki's description and that of the RM official website more than that clown's. That clown is no authority in footballing matters mate. Next time you want to post a link post that of a credible and authoritative analyst. You really have to stop taking that clown seriously. P.S. Even you clown analyst didn't dare call Xabi Alonso a 4/DM. He had to twist his description and analysis of him to suit the purpose of his article. |
honeric01:Ok.. Alonso na 4. Infact, Makelele nor fit mark reach am. ![]() Happy now? |
honeric01: Are you trying to shift the goal-post ni? so Alonso is the standing 4 and these other players are not standing 4, they are battling box? hehehehe wonders! Because Yaya goes forward more, he's no longer a standing 4? let me burst your bubble, Khadira plays the role of 4 more for Madrid than Alonso. you want to argue this?Oh Gawd! Xabi Alonso nor be 4! He has never been! At Liverpool he was more of a CM, with Dietmar Hamann and latterly Mascherano being the DMs, at Real Madrid he is a deep lying playmaker, the engine room, the one that makes the team tick with Sami Khedira the battler/enforcer just like Arturo Vidal does for Pirlo. |
caukerzee: please dont embarass yourself on nairaland.xavi is the most decorated player still playing. alonso is no where near. even mess has won more trophies than him.Does the name Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes ring any bell? Those would dwarf him in terms of decorations. Throw Iker Casillas in the midst. ![]() |
caukerzee: i prolly wasnt the one that said that. i dont make excuses for messi under-performing for argentina because he has been brilliant of late. 12goals and 6assist in his last 8 apperances for argentina is not bad at all. what more could one ask for.Very well said. You have to admit a significant amount of those stats were amassed in dead-rubber ties! ![]() |
honeric01: Because Yaya is black, you've obviously gotten blinded by what he brings to ANY team he plays in? Yaya Toure remains the best 4 out there, both in Barca and in Man city, he's showing his worth.Dude you are mixing a whole lotta things up here. To begin with, your concept of player comparism is warped and flawed. First get it straight that football is a revolving game, the position of the number 4 as it used to be is not the same as it is now. Claude Makelele is arguably the last player to fulfil that role in the true sense of it (you could make a case for John Obi Mikel, but even he is changing his game lately). I'll group the players you mentioned into the roles they actually play in the football of today. Yaya Toure and Arturo Vidal are not standing 4s but battling box - box kind of players. Bastian Schweinsteiger and Miguel Veloso are Central Midfielders akin to Xavi Hernandez and Paul Scholes. Only Xabi Alonso and Andrea Pirlo (and to an extent Danielle De Rossi and PSG's Marco Veratti) play the role of a deep lying play maker in football today. |
caukerzee: i repeat this again, football is a team sport not an individual sport. the fact that, lets say ronaldo is the stand out perfomer, doesnt mean you should neglect ozil, di maria, alonso and kehdiras contributions. in the 86 team, you had players like segio batista, jorge valdano, hector enrique, carlos tapia, oscar ruggeri, sergio almiron to mention but a few, who made enormous contributions to the sucess of the 86 team. its a fact. maradonas argentina was never a mediocre team.I totally agree with you that football is a team sport, but you still are not getting the drill here.... Earlier, higher up this thread someone, (maybe you or someone else, I'm not sure who) alluded to something like Messi's lack of success at international level is because his Argentine mates are not up to scratch (which is a preposterous statement to say the least). I countered this by saying that's an untenable excuse and also stated that even if they are not up to scratch which is not true, Messi's outworldly brilliance should fire them up and then I gave examples of players who have done so at various times in the history of the game. |
dorothy111: God bless you my brother, imagine xabi Alonso been compared with Toluanan that marseille player, not even Pirlo or De RossiSo funny ![]() The only credible competition Xabi Alonso has in world football at the moment in the art of deep lying play making is Andrea Pirlo. |
honeric01: The players you mentioned were kids then, they couldn't have benched those playing their positions then, even till now, Cesc still can't bench Xavi or Iniesta both in Barcelona and Spain. Xabi Alonso is never a world class player and would never be one, he's just an above average player, there are numerous 4 out there that can match him in all ramification so this.Lol Xabi Alonso an above average player?... I dey laff o... ![]() Seeing the kinda players you are comparing him to, its obvious you are not as versed in football as you are making out to be. |
caukerzee: i never said he was a bit part player. sure he also contributed to his team with assist, dribles and passes. the point i was making was that maradona's '86 team wasnt a mediocre team. without the host of other stars, there was no way he was going to win the world cup. he was only a stand out performer from the rest like rvp is with man u, mata with chelsea, carzola with arsenal, messi with barca, ronaldo with madrid and so on.Oga abegi nor dey change am jo. You said Maradona's Mexico '86 compatriots were equally world beaters on their own. And I asked you to name 7 of them! Bottomline still still remains, while football is a team sport, the individual brilliance of a particular player can inspire otherwise average players to attain heights unimaginable. Dixie Dean proved this with Everton, Giuseppe Meazza proved this with Italy, Diego Maradona proved this with Argentina and Napoli, Pavel Nedved almost did the same with Czech Rep.... and so on.... |
