sawyer89: @Nitrogen.hey bro! I don't think the young man ought to be insulted with the abusive 'f' word.He did agreed that his english is imperfect.Surprisingly,he truly made a first class!
@Lamba lamb.Try as much as possible to improve both your written and spoken english. Many atimes that would determine how your worth is going to be defined.I'll advise you lay your hands on some of Dele Asade's books(i hope i get his name right,he's the author of 'A1 in english') and read educative Magazines.Never be too timid to speak and write in english, the more you do,the perfect you become!
Wish you the best bro and i hope to see you at the top!
Whaoh! Quite interesting, just that.......

Well, lamba lamba, am sorry for that, but try and help yourself in that aspect and let it be 'now' because its getting late. Best of God in all your endeavours.

Blueboy0402: Have you ever asked yourself the reason why after aptitude test, job seekers would be required to come for an interview? One of the reasons is that employer want to know the level of development in candidates cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains.

The following are not new in our education system especially at the tertiary level: sorting, sex for marks, upgrading, impersonation (writing exam for someone) etc. Little wonder someone posted in one thread that a graduate failed primary school quantitative and verbal reasoning.

For your information I would rather employ a 3rd class degree holder who has a well developed cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains. Someone that is proactive, innovative, productive and an out-of-the-box thinker. I would prefer this candidate to someone who parade a first class degree that is worth tissue paper. What class of degree does the following academic dieties possess? Aristoto, Plato, Socrates, Wole Soyinka, Bill Gates etc. Wake up and strive for personal development instead of looking for first class or 2.1.
I am not of the notion that only a 2.1 or firstie grade will do, but it will go a long way. The main is to develop oneself by acquiring skills and experiences that align with one's career, it's the best.
But, seriously, why would one graduate from a uni with third class or pass? Very strange, or circumstances and not being priviledged caused it not to make at worse a 2.2?

Oh! Am not disputing that with you, but the fact still remains that 'exams, for now is still widely used at virtually all levels of life', be it primary, secondary and tertiary, levels. Please, why do we have aptitude tests, gmat, gre, toefl and other exams? cos it is best used to assess the knowledge of applicants, professional exams too are there, may i tell you that those interviews and other forms of accessing people are just add-ons, thats why they are (at times) conducted after the main which is exams.
Or you would prefer interviews to be used to assess students at different levels of education? No, because it will be time consuming and costly and also the cases of atrocities mentioned will be even more. So that still leaves us with exams as the best (for now), it will particularly save time and help assess all at the same time effectively and efficiently.
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Vacancy For 3rd Class And Pass Graduates. by nitrogen(m): 8:34am On Aug 06, 2012
Blueboy0402: Take note of the following: 1. learning is said to have taken place when there is a change in behaviour. 2. Learning takes place when a student passes through a structured curriculum. 3. Students are given tests and exams to evaluate and ascertain if learning has indeed taken place. 4. One sure way of measuring students knowledge in a given course is to find out if there is a change in behaviour. This can be through exams, tests, observation, research/project, assignment, continous assessment, field trip, industrial attachment etc. What will you say about a first class student who suddenly developed high fever and was unable to write anything in the exam hall? Therefore examination "ALONE" is and cannot be the tool to measure knowledge. The true test of knowledge is the combination of various assessment tools one of which is exam.
It is evident in your post esp. the bolded that exams is the number one and presently the most effective way of testing knowledge. So, Filebe, End of discussion.

Manage the position till they have the one that suits your qualification, that even will give you upper hand (in terms of getting the position) since you are already working with them.

Btw, I really commend the bank for the 'cutting cost' method employed. Cheap labour=lesser staff cost. cheesy

Blueboy0402: I dont see anything wrong with the choice of grade of the poster. Because we place unecessary premium on first class and 2.1 student will go to any length to get these grades. There are very bright and intelligent people with 2.2 and 3rd class. To all those banks and coy that have placed embargo on recruiting 2.2 and 3rd class graduates note that examination is not the true test of knowledge. cry cry cry
If exams is not the true test of knowledge, then tell us what is the best and most effective way of testing knowledge. Oga we dey wait you o cos i want to add to my reservoir of knowledge today.

deenee: @ Ajanlekoko, VERY FUNNY!
@ Nitrogen, the excuses are real but there is more corruption in the so called abroad than we have in Nigeria.

The LIBOR saga, money laundering issue with HSBC and other stuff is a good testimony to this. The light issue will soon be a thing of the past and would have been long before now ( as far back as 2001-2002) if Nigerians had supported the initial privatization exercise. If you are following the exercise closely you will see that a group of people at the helm of affairs at NEPA are just delaying the whole exercise for their selfish reasons. How do you explain over 30 billion missing from a closed pension scheme managed by the union guys?

Finally going abroad to study is just 'a means to an end and not an end in its self'
This is very true, i just hope we/they/most wake up to that reality.
Btw, i can assert that it is far worst in the west? Oga o.

AjanleKoko: Scroll up to my earlier post, in response to violent, and you will see why.
That thing you mentioned is all people see. Then they start running to Malaysia for degrees.
Have they asked Sabunta what they are looking for? I can tell you authoritatively that it is not foreign degree.

You need to hear some of the stuff I hear on a regular basis from your fellows abroad.
- There is no light.
- Jonathan is a bad man and the Reps are greedy.
- Boko Haram will kill us all.
- Nigerians are too hungry.

And the one that cracked me up the most - Palms shopping mall has too few shops, my kids will have nowhere to go!
Bros, i think these excuses are real just that they aren't cogent enough.

If i have the resources, i can go get a foreign masters degree in one of the best universities in the west and not the mediocre ones, then that might help to get a good placement after the program there, if not, then a mba from lagos business school or m.sc from a federal university will do.
I hope i definitely won't eat my words later.
Career › Re: How Do I Start A Career In Telecommunication With A B.sc In Mathematics? by nitrogen(m): 6:03pm On Aug 05, 2012
Mehn! have missed a lot o, sincerely what you guys are thrashing out is for the better of these recent graduates (plus me) that thinks that in order to be green, one must be out of nigeria, for real, all that a.j pointed out are real, the coming of foreign investors, tech companies, big firms(not having branches here before) and foreign private equity firms (like rocket internet gmbh and others) into naija says it all and they all need young chaps to help get firm here.
Like recently, i was having a chat with the talent acquisition officer of rocket internet (based in S.A) and she told me of the different internship and other positions available, she even said they'd prefer those that schooled in naija to fill those positions available in their new business in naija 'kasuwa'. So i think the mentality has to change. Although, if the chance is there, i will gladly take it so far there is guarantee that a good job is there after the programme, not that i'll start the crazy job hunting journey which is really crazy because of the factors highlighted by violent.

Seriously, am not a fan of jetting outside the shores because of green pasture, while there are oppurtunities (both job and investment) here.

ocelot2006: Necessary family responsibility indeed. What a bloody joke. Apparently, the family members think those millions grow on trees, and they sure think it's their right to demand for such aid from well-to-do relatives. Well call me wicked or whatever, I'll spend those millions on my kids only. Let those damn relatives demanding for aid apply for a scholarship.
Bro, i am not in support of such, it is evident in my posts on the thread, sincerely, it will be crazy for me to do such especially when the recipient is the unserious type. But believe me, it is the fucking naija mentality, if you are able, just do it for the sake of perhaps tradition else you will be labelled an ingrate and an inconsiderate being.

Btw, am still to be fulfilled i.e young, in order to do such, but am almost there.

somebody: If you can afford it comfortably, why not? If it will be a stretch on your finances, then it should be a NO to the relatives.

You can't even tell ones ability by their grades in Nigerian universities so you have no way of knowing if the relative will excel while studying 'abroad'.

Personally, I will give a relative the opportunity to study abroad if they are dedicated and I can afford it.
You really killed the matter with this, and i think thats what A.J is saying, it won't be okay to expect an uncle to sponsor a lazy and unserious me at the expense of a sharp, serious and passionate person (perhaps not a relative). If he can, then he should sponsor the serious ones, for example, a thirdy graduate, personally i would say wasn't serious in school, so what gives the assurance that he'l come out with a good grade after the sponsored programme although there are few exceptional cases, it's just like a wastage of cash.

But the naija fact is this, if you have the money and a relative (whether serious or unserious) approaches you for sponsorship, if you dont, then 'you are bad'.
