Doing the same thing in a different and interesting way daily makes that thing non-monotonous, just that you need your thinking cap in order to achieve that. |
Career › Re: What Are The Best Ways To Be Productive On The Job? by nitrogen(m): 7:12pm On Jul 26, 2012 |
AjanleKoko: Well . . .
1. Be proacaive. Don't let the day or task catch you off-guard. Be prepared.
2. Begin with the end in mind, i.e. what do you want to achieve at the end of the day? Write it down at the beginning, so you can use that as your day baseline.
3. Put first things first, i.e. start with the most important, that needs to get done. Those tasks that can't be rushed.
4. Think win win. When the coworkers come with their fire brigade situations, negotiate with them. Don't allow yourself to be snowballed or sucked into their activities. Find a way to satisfy them while not jettisoning your own critical deliverable. If you can't. it's better to buy time, find a stalemate, which gives you space to focus on your own tasks.
5. Seek first to understand, and then to be understood. Try to understand why they need you to DROP EVERYTHING, and focus on their tasks. When you understand, let them realize that you also have stuff to get done.
6. Synergize. Use other people to get parts of your task done quickly. Don't try to be a hero and do it all by yourself, if you can avoid it. Proactively use your informal connections to get things done quicker. Don't hide behind emails or memos. That informal phone call to a colleague, or desk-side chat, they can help oil the wheels of results!
7. Sharpen the saw. Take ergo breaks. I recommend ten minutes for every 100 minutes of work, because Africans tend to work slower than, say, Asians. International standard is a break every hour. Put in 100 minutes of work, then take a 10 minute break by going to pee, taking a glass of water, or just standing up and walking around.
This is all courtesy of Steven Covey's Seven Habits, and how I have applied them to my daily routine. Hope it helps! Bookmarked. God bless you for this. |

AjanleKoko: Here is an irony:
All of the people featured by violent on this thread are Fortune 500 CEOs. That is a very apt example of what most of us value as success. We are institutionalized by the corporate ethos. I don't consider many of these people are inspirational or innovative. Most of them are privileged beneficiaries of some elitist dynasty. Some are heirs of success.
I'm surprised that people like Seth Godin, Oster Pistorius, Robert Kiyosaki, Haile Gebreselassie, and even Kim Dot Com are not featured here. Are they not successful people?
Haile Gebreselassie for one. NO disrespect to Nigerians intended, but our nation can never produce someone like him. No be curse. We just cannot. Even our sportsmen play sports because they want to be rich, no desire to achieve anything apart from money. This is just the 'bitter' truth, we (nigerians) all live and work for our daily needs which is okay, but some try to accumulate cash (not wealth) for 'their' future ones not minding the way the cash is generated. To worsen the matter, this horrible idea has diffused to the other side, check out the different cases of corruption, fraud, and other activities like insider trading in houses, neglect of professional ethics in order to amass cash, this is all over and i dont think it can be stopped. You know what, there is an 'unable to avert' danger ahead and i think the globe is graduating from its 'crisis' state to 'shrinkage' state. |

skyone: Your website lacks simple security plus no procedure on how to close registered account this is absolutely unacceptable. ANYBODY CAN TRACE ANYONE THROUGH YOUR WEBSITE; JUST AT THE TYPING OF EMAIL ADDRESS AND EVERYTHING IS EXPOSED THIS IS ABSOLUTELY STUP1D. You are right but you can edit your profile, the mere removal of your email addy and its replacement with another solves the problem (even a wrong or a 'general purpose' email addy can be used. |

apocalypse: The point in choosing people who are regulars from other sections or people who others feel are not "politically inclined" is to have diversity of ideas and suggestions. Cuddlemi has done a good job thus far ( including choice of debaters ) and she should be left alone to do her thing , if y'all think you are so smart why didn't y'all come up with the idea.Again putting only "politically inclined" debaters on the bench would make the debate dull to others who aren't.
@Cuddlemi : I'm sorry but I think I will pull out of this debate as the tone of some people towards the debate isn't encouraging. Going by the bolded, then the list of debaters is incomplete because there is no one from the career section. |

AjanleKoko: Everybody uses discretion. There's no empirical method for getting the best results. You just go with your gut, 7 times out of 10, because you can't afford to wait too long.
Man isn't really unpredictable. In fact, man is quite predictable. Man just needs to be managed or controlled. Put controls in place, and adhere strictly to them. Don't let yourself be swayed by emotions. Quite interesting! |
