PoliticsRe: Ironsi Walked Around With A Dead Lizard In His Hand, Why? by nku5: 10:05pm On Nov 01, 2012
It wasn't a dead lizard, it was wooden figurine crocodile that supposedly gave him supernatural powers. I heard (beer parlour gist sha) that when ty danjuma and his men came for him, that was the first thing they dispossessed him of before he could be overpowered and killed

ndu_chucks: I was told that Major General Johnson Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi walked around when he was commander-in-chief with a dead, treated lizard in his hand.

Is there a cultural or political reason for this and do some Igbo's still practice this act? Did Ironsi believe that he derived some sort of supernatural power from this lizard?

Please no bashing, I simply seek to be informed.

See your post lunatic stop crying for backup -

felifeli: Igbos are the descendants of Cain, the first murderer . They are a cursed tribe and until you go and do corporate deliverance you will continue to wander about and be hated . Let me educate you further :

According to the biblical narrative in Genesis 4:1-16, Cain treacherously murdered his brother Abel, lied about the murder to God, and as a result was cursed and marked for life. With the earth left cursed to drink Abel's blood, Cain was no longer able to farm the land.Cain was punished as a "fugitive and wanderer"and Cain suffering from body tremors (severe anger). Interpretations extend Cain's curse to his descendants, where they all died in the Great Deluge (Biafra war ?) as retribution for the loss of Abel's potential offspring.

In conclusion better for you people to find out the "Abel" that your forefathers murdered and go and do etutu to remove the curse from your head. A word is enough for the wise.

Why not dedicate your time creating much more useful thread instead of crying like a baby that his mother refuased to breast-feeed. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. If you want to remain inside the kitchen then shut your mouth and ignore any thread you don't like. If e still dey pain you shoot yourself.

kikuyu1: I've heard the same and I suspect it may be true. Most African history is still not just unknown but untold. We parrot the same historical narratives of the oyibos as if we still haven't learned anything for ourselves. On a relevant thread I posted our own lost pictography called gichandi, which in my own layman's view wasn't far from nsibidi.

Its more of an inferiority complex to be honest, its nothing to do with resources or politics. In Kenya,Luos,Kalenjins,Somalis, everybody else in fact 'explains' their poverty blaming Kenyatta,Kibaki and Kikuyus at large. IDK,where you are but if you're in the West there must be some Luos in school. Ask them about marginalisation and disenfranchisement-they'll bend your ear for hours with tales of how we supposedly engineered their poverty. Then ask why Kenyatta established sugar, cotton and rice growing schemes in Luoland during the early days of the semi socialist command economy. At this point they change the subject. They're too attached to the narrative however false to see things as they are.

My brother racism is now worse in africa than anywhere else iin the world. It is very unfortunate. Black on black racism. Igbos and kikuyus have a lot in common. Infact an igbo guerilla group called ekumeku that fought the british occupation of western igboland for 17 years has been speculated to have been an inspiration to the mau mau movement

The possibility of foreigners whipping up tribalsm scares the shyte out of me. I find it difficult to believe though. Has any poster ever been busted?

Horus: Tribalism on Nairaland do not comme all the time from Nigerians or Africans. Many Europeans are in disguise on Nairaland and post tribalistic messages to divide Nigerians. They try to make you believe that they are Africans or Nigerians. There are many agendas behind what you read. Know that it is actually an understanding of positive and negative that will truly tell you what is in the best interests for Nigerians. A righteous Nigerian may disagree with aspects of the message but they would not openly try and deter others from receiving it.

Try your best not to get personal with me sir.

80% ?? Wow where did u get those figures from oga. I'm sure its a contrived percentage but that's a dscussion for another time. Your brother just said that igbos introduced those crimes and I'm pointing out history and clarifying same. Oya look at my points and tell me Dr. Oyenusi did not pioneer armed robbery as an industry in this country or that shina rambo did not establish the first nigerian born cross border robbery syndicate in africa

Kidnapping or gbomo gbomo is not a today thing in the south west abi na lie

geeez: Seriously? 80% of the robberies, kidnappings and ritual killings are perpetrated by Igbos. I can't believe a right thinking person will assert this. Except you just got out of jail and haven't been in touch.
PoliticsRe: Igbo Started Tribal Politics In The South; Fani Kayode by nku5: 10:00am On Oct 29, 2012
You can't talk about private hands developing a region that has practically no federal presence and almost no infrastructure. It has never been done before. Besides abia state , south eastern states do a good job of building their state roads. Power supply in the east is worse than any other part of the country. I have lived in the north, south west and I'm from the south east so I should have a fair idea. How can u talk about developing a region to compete favourably with others when one is deprived of the basic things that actually drive development

Andro Blaze: Again you are digressing but you have asked a question I have contemplated myself many a time. First of all, how familiar are you with the SE, I mean have you lived there for any considerable length of time yourself?? If you have you must have an answer to the question you raised and I would be interested in hearing it.

Personally I have never lived in the SE nor visited the region, so what I am going to say next is what I have been told by the people I asked. These people were mainly from the two earlier generations (that ruined this country) and had all lived in the SE for a considerable length of time, most with family ties and some even born their. Again though a majority of my sampled opinion was Yoruba a considerable minority wasn't. In fact the only things that linked all of them was that I met all of them in Lagos and surprisingly they all seemed to say the same thing, which kind of goes "Igbos are too fetish, Igbos are too clannish etc." There main gist was anytime they started doing a business or seemed to be doing well in the SE, their Igbo friends would turn against them and some sort of calamity would befall them. Now I took this with a pinch of salt, seeing as most of us love to blame our failures on others and as I said these people had returned to Lagos after their sour adventures in the SE, so I could expect them to be bitter. But it does seem empirically, at least if one looks at the list of the richest/ most popular Nigerian entrepreneurs, I know of none who created their wealth from the SE and were non-Igbo. I mean its easy for me (and most Nigerians) to come up with a list of Easterners and Northerners that made their fortune in the SW, and also easy for me to come up with Easterners and Westerners that made their fortune in the North, obviously the same can be said for the SS where everyone makes their money from in Nigeria; but how easy is it for any one of us to come up with a list of anyone that was non-Igbo,that includes other fellow Eastern ethnic groups, that made their fortune in Igboland? I would find it easier to talk about other Nigerians making their money in Angola and SA than that of Igboland!

Anyway I am not suggesting that this conclusively proves what those people said but I do wonder if some of our SE brothers realise how absurd and hypocritical they sound (to people like me familiar with the stereotype and the evidence that seemingly supports it) when they say "the Igbo would dominate Nigeria if their was a level playing field"-why not try creating one in the SE to test your supremacist theorem first?

BTW this is mainly a personal opinion formed on opinions, evidence to rebut it would be much appreciated.

looplat: Why do Igbos go around taunting their hosts?
Only Igbos claim to own 90% of Las gidi, 100% of Kano, 99% of Kaduna, 95% of Jos etc.
I don't see others making such ludicrous claims.

There are more hausa/fulani in Lagos than Igbos,
how come they don't taunt their hosts like Igbos?

Igbos make too much noise and they have a death wish. undecided
Besides what goes on in this site, have u ever met an igbo man in REAL LIFE who said igbos make up these percentages??

dayokanu: Because Igbos are not even destroying everywhere they go

They bring all manner of crime never known before to their host. Kidnapping, armed robbery, drug trafficking, filthiness, and even Cannibalism

Everyone wants Igbos to go back to the caves they came from
Chei! See reverse accusation o! Igbos are good learners I must admit but na Yoruba invent crime for naija o! Oya let's goooo theeeere!!!

Armed Robbery - pioneered by Dr Oyenusi and perfected by Shina Rambo who went cross-border

Drug trafficking - pioneered by the likes of "Eleganza" and most fuji singers before we even knew what cocaine was

Cannibalism - your traditions require that the flesh of newly dead obas be shared by the chiefs. I will soon be back with the links

Filth - hmmmmm. Let's not even start

Very sad but I'm happy to say that we are coming through the dark patch of our history and waking up at last. The younger generations are learning the hard way what their identity really is but at least they are learning.

Andre Uweh: Igbo language was used in the organisation of this war. The warriors all spoke Igbo and never saw each other as Ika or Ukwuani.
It's a pity some of the grand children of these warriors have brought division and denial into what held us together-Igbo.

Memorial to the Ekumeku Guerilla resistance movement of Western Igboland or Anioma. One of the longest sustained resistance movements against British occupation- 17 years from 1897-1914. The Ekumeku resistance movement was one of the few centralised resistance movements of the disparate Igbo States. Comprising warriors from an area stretching from Onitsha through Asaba, all the way to Agbor.

The movement succeeded in sacking some of the Royal Niger Company's outposts in Western Igboland and was greatly feared by the British not just for for the sophistication/ferocity of their attacks (tactics including night-time raids and tactical alternation between guerilla and conventional warfare) but the resilience of the movement.

The Ekumeku suffered serious reprisals from the British, with their leaders captured and several killed in 1902, for which the Ekumeku reprised in 1904. In 1909 at Ogwashi Uku, which the Ekumeku repelled successfully. In 1911, the Ekumeku's leaders were once again rounded up, of which the Ekumeku unsuccessfully attempted reprisal.

The name Ekumeku or Ekwumekwu (meaning "be silent" or "do not speak about it") was sourced from the Cultist origins of the movement and the stealth with which the warriors operated. It is said that the Ekumeku movement inspired the Mau Mau of Kenya. The Ekwumekwu rivalled the Zulus in their resistance of British domination.

Some of the greatest Ekwumekwu warriors included Dunkwu Isus and Ochei Nwayazia of Onicha Olona, Mokobia Odiajo and Nwaiyogolo of Ogwashi-Uku, Monye Ukpe and Diei Nwobodo

I didn't see any disagreement between both men. Fashola is advocating respect for the rule of law as opposed to passing laws people can respect. We don't need a verbose or 5000 page constitution if there is an orientation of respect for authority.

Obi referred to it as an agreement for the basis of unity or nationhood. No long tin there
