Elliot2: Did you know that Adaka Boro was equally hated by his own people for oppressing them? In fact, his own father laid a curse on him. Adaka borrow killed a lot of ijaw men suspected of supporting Biafra. Adaka borrow was not a saint himself. And again, ijaw people killed a lot of Biafrans too, especially Adaka boro. Also, a lot of Biafran soldiers were drowned in the rivers by ijaws who were ferrying them across communities, they purposely capsized the boats. It was war, and a lot of atrocities happen on both sides. Boro was the Ijaw version of Afonja. He is reponsible for the mess that is ijawland today. The north exploited his hatred for Igbos and enslaved the Niger Delta, and own their oil wells until tomorrow

Even though, they were called Regional governors.
The hitherto Regional Governement Headed by Premiers had a large degree of autonomy. Arguing for argument sake... Do you know the nature of the military in the first place? The regions could still make laws. Go and read the decree well. Ironsi is the most democratic military ruler in history. |
Politics › Tinubu: Nigerians Will Be Safe Under Buhari by nku5(op): 8:09am On May 04, 2021 |
The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu is optimistic that Nigeria will overcome its current security challenges.
Speaking during the Special Ramadan Prayer Tafsir which held in Sunday at the Lagos House in Marina, Tinubu said Nigerians will feel safe under President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
President Buhari had swept to power in 2015 on three cardinal promises – tackling security, fixing the economy and addressing power.
However, six years after defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ending its 16-year rule on Nigeria, insecurity seems to have worsened under the current APC government.
But Tinubu feels strongly that things will get better in the long run.
“We know when it started but we don’t want to give excuses. This government will perform, Nigerians will feel safe and be happy,” he said. https://www.channelstv.com/2021/05/03/nigerians-will-feel-safe-under-buharis-government-tinubu/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

gidgiddy: I was in a zoom meeting recently where we were discussing Nigeria and where we got it wrong. Someone said in the meeting that Nigeria headed down the wrong lane when Major General Ironsi abolished Regionalism and introduced unitary rule.
This is completely false! Ironsi neither abolished the Regions nor did he introduce unitary rule.
The simple way anyone can know that Ironsi did not do these things is to check the date Ironsi died. Ironsi was killed on 29th of July 1966. The 4 Regions of the time, Western Region, Eastern Region, Northern Region and Midwest Region, were all existing on 29th July 1966, and all 4 of them had resource control and practiced the revenue sharing formular agreed at independence. In fact, all 4 Regions were existing even into 1967 when Gowon officially dissolved the 4 Regional structure and replaced them with 12 states, and took away resource control. The 12 states Gowon created were further subdivided by different military regimes until we arrived at the 36 we have today
So if the 4 Regions were existing and had resource control on the day Ironsi died, how is it possible that Ironsi was the one who dissolved the Regions and introduced unitary rule?
It would have required Ironsi rising up from the dead to have been the one who dissolved Regionalism How could he have dissolved regions when there were regional governors Nigerians are not so smart. Some people out there still think Goodluck Jonathan ruled for 6 years when it can be easily googled |

PHijo: States were not, and can not be the biggest problem in Nigeria. Thanks to states we no longer have to put with Igbo excesses like forced in school to learn; 1 otu, 2 abo, etc.
The biggest problem of Nigeria is the greed, bigotry and ingratitude of some ethnic groups within the space called Nigeria. If the state system that Dappa Biriye created is working then why is Ijaw land generally poverty stricken with no infrastructure and your youths are kidnapping people up and down? Despite all the oil most of Ijaw land does not have roads or light. After kissing the backside of the north for 60 years from Dappa Biriye, Ejoor etc what has the Niger Delta gained? - |

So an Urhobo man (Ejoor) introduced the arabic inscription on the Nigerian Army logo, a Bini man (Akenzua) told Gowon to betray the Aburi Accord and now we learn that an Ijaw man was the one that sold the idea to Gowon for regions and resource control to be scrapped and states to be created. In fact, Buhari traveled magically back to GEJ's time in office to prevent GEJ from finishing the project after 6 years in office and N51 Trillion oil wealth.

FatherOfJesus: This post is going to assume that Ondo, Abia and IMO state are not part of Nigerdelta, however for purpose the name they call it, Nigerdelta republic, I’m sticking to it.
First of all, I’m from Rivers state, specifically Omuma, an Igbo speaking part of rivers state. Personally I think Nigerdelta republic only exist on paper and will most likely not come in to fruition. The diverse nature of the region is stable because it’s under Nigeria, if Nigeria splits today, Nigerdelta will cease to exist.
There are so many tribes in that region with different agenda, we Omuma would mostly like want to join my kinsmen rather join another multiethnic wahala. In Nigerdelta, groups do not agree, the Nigerian Government is trying to foster peace in the region just for the purpose of oil and gas exploitation by using all means including settling traditional and political leaders against our people. I do not think for example, Ibibio and Efik people really want to be in a sole country with IJaws and binis, these tribes hardly share anything in common and forming another country will be another Nigeria-like chaos. In essence, we in nigerdelta, we know that we cannot agree and it’s laughable that IJaws are trying hard to push for another overly multi ethnic nation.
The best bet for Nigerdelta is for Nigeria never to split however If happens to spilt, forget it, no nation can come out of there. It will all come to a matter of alignment and negotiations, the fate of Nigerdelta is that it will split further to aligning with Biafra and oduduwa republic and some might even join Cameroon. Each group in the region will consider their short and long term interests, they will be lots and lots of negotiations and even forceful land ownership.
We in Nigerdelta know this, don’t let us deceive ourselves. When Delta State marked their first anniversary in 1992 the state government paid a studio in Lagos to produce a tv advert to celebrate it. The three people sent from Asaba to supervise it were Urhobo, Itsekiri and Ijaw. They almost came to blows over disagreements on which tribe's masquerade to show first and argued for several days before the studio owner (Itsekiri) intervened. A Niger Delta country would be very fragmented and divided, at least in the beginning. It would also be a very igbo-phobic place as there is a lot of hatred for Igbos in the Niger Delta. Even the Igbos that choose to remain in that republic would run away eventually |
