Chikatara Admits Tough Battle To Claim Super Eagles Starting Shirt Vs Egypt https://i1.wp.com/www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chikatara-1.jpg?fit=580%2C473&resize=350%2C200 By Izuchukwu Okosi: Super Eagles striker Chisom Chikatara has expressed satisfaction at his invitation for Nigeria's 2017 Africa Cup of Nations two-legged qualifiers against Egypt this month, Completesportsnigeria.com reports. Chikatara was impressive at the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) where he scored four goals and has signed for Morrocan side, Wydad Casablanca on a three-year contract on the back of his performances in Rwanda. The former Abia Warriors forward has reported to the Super Eagles camp at the Bolton White Apartment in Abuja. He told Completesportsnigeria.com that he will be contended with wins against Egypt at the expense of him playing in both ties. "The important thing is that we (Super Eagles) qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, it doesn't matter who plays against Egypt or not. "Of course, I know it will not be easy to get a starting place because of the quality of strikers in the team, but God knows the best. "If am not going to play and Nigeria will qualify, I'll be happy. And if I will be played, then I will show my quality again. I will also be happy," Chikatara told Completesportsnigeria.com. The home-based Eagles have begun camping ahead of the first leg of the fixtures scheduled for March 25th at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna. The overseas-based players are expected to arrive camp few days to the game. http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/chikatara-admits-tough-battle-claim-super-eagles-starting-shirt-vs-egypt/ |
Siasia seeks to reform midfield for Egypt by Andrew Randa https://images.supersport.com/2016/3/Nigeria-Chan-300.jpg Super Eagles Supersport.com continues with our series on the players invited by Samson Siasia for the back-to-back 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Pharaohs of Egypt. This time, our man Andrew Randa, takes a dip into the midfielders invited for the game. MIDFIELDERS Ifeanyi Matthew (Kano Pillars); Usman Mohammed (FC Taraba); Etebo Oghenekaro (Warri Wolves); Ogenyi Onazi (SS Lazio, Italy); John Mikel Obi (Chelsea FC, England); Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City, England); Azubuike Okechukwu (Yeni Matalyspor, Turkey) It's apparent that Siasia wants to inject new blood into Nigeria’s midfield, however, the timing is a bit off and it is left to see how he can conjure up some midfield magic to stop the Egyptians when the two sides clash on March 25 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna. The big news coming out of the midfield situation is that Stanley Dimgba, who just moved to Sunshine Stars and midfield powerhouse Usman Mohammed will miss the game after ‘Siaone’ banished them to the under-23 side for failing to report to camp on time. https://www.savidnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/mikel-obi.jpg John Mikel Obi [above] is the main man here, not just in the midfield but in the team as a whole. He is the most experienced player in the squad following the retirement of Vincent Enyeama and will be torch bearer on game day. He failed to make the starting 11 against Swaziland in a World Cup qualifier recently, a bold move by Sunday Oliseh who elected to play Paul Onobi instead. The former Lyn Oslo midfielder has been a mainstay in Chelsea’s midfield since the departure of Jose Mourinho and seems to be enjoying his football again. Surely, the Eagles benefit from that. Yau Hassan’s inclusion is a strange one. The burly player, listed as a midfielder, has played predominantly as an attacker at Kano Pillars and Wikki Tourists. He has strength and a physical presence but he hasn’t exactly set the local scene alight. Ogenyi Onazi will miss the game in Kaduna which means Nigerians might get to see Ifeanyi Matthew [below] strut his stuff again. https://www.mynewswatchtimesng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Ifeanyi-Matthew.jpg The Kano Pillars man is arguably the most improved Nigerian player in the local scene in the last one year. He was phenomenal in midfield as Nigeria won the Africa Under-20 championship in Senegal last year and replicated the same with the under-23s as they captured the African crown. Matthew was one of the few bright lights for Nigeria in an otherwise dour Chan tournament and has now gotten his day in the sun with an invitation to the senior squad. Former Fifa under-17 MVP Kelechi Iheanacho is listed as a midfielder even though he plays as a centre-forward for his English side, Manchester City. Siasia might just be toying with the idea of playing ‘Nacho’ [below] as an offensive midfielder or just behind the front two depending on what formation he puts out against Egypt on March 25. https://i3.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article2710830.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/Nigeria-v-Mexico-FIFA-U-17-World-Cup-UAE-2013-Final.jpg Azubuike Okechukwu’s inclusion in the squad is a testament to his rising stock as one of the Nigeria’s emerging top guns. Though playing in the Turkish second division, his talent and leadership qualities are undeniable as Siasia handed him the leadership of the under-23 team, which he led to the African title. It’s apparent Siasia is a firm believer in youth and keeping with his philosophy of having a member of the under-23 side in the current set up, Azubuike takes his place in midfield alongside the hero of Nigeria’s under-23 Nations Cup triumph, Oghenekaro Etebo. .[below] https://www.mynewswatchtimesng.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Etebo.jpg PASSED OVER You’ve got to think Raheem Lawal, John Ogu, Sone Aluko and Hope Akpan should be in with a shout. Ogu has been in fine form this season chalking up regular minutes and providing assists for the strikers at his Israeli side Hapoel Beer Sheva, while Akpan has added goal-scoring to his repertoire at Blackburn Rovers Sone Aluko and Raheem Lawal have also done well this season to deserve a look-in by Siasia. But he obviously knows something we don't. http://www.supersport.com/football/super-eagles/news/160309/Siasia_seeks_to_reform_midfield_for_Egypt |
Obaje insists on six points v Egypt by Humphrey Njoku https://images.supersport.com/2016/3/Godwin%20Obaje-001.jpg Godwin Obaje Super Eagles forward, Godwin Obaje has said the side will claim the whole six points against the Pharaohs of Egypt in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) double header clash in the month. Eagles are billed to host the North Africans in the first leg of the crunch duel on Friday, March 25 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna while the reverse fixture clash will hold in Alexandria, Egypt on Tuesday, March 29. Obaje said his side will be 100% ready to challenge for the points by the time they are done with the ongoing rigorous preparations for the all important tie. “Egypt must fall is the song on everybody’s mouth at the moment as we commence intense preparations for the crucial encounter both here in Kaduna, Nigeria and Alexandria, Egypt. “Our mindset is to claim the whole six points in both legs of the important game to climb to the summit of the group. “The quality of training is quite intense and rigorous but we are determined and happy to go through the exercise as far as we pocket the whole points. “We are ready to go undergo even the toughest training aimed at toughening ourselves for the banters the Egyptians will throw at us. “I’m happy to make the numbers and I have vowed to work very hard to make the last selection of players that will eventually face the Egyptians. “I’m used to the quality of training in camp and will not find it hard to cope with and excel at the end of the day,” said the Wikki Tourists marksman to supersport.com. The domestic players are the ones sweating it out in Abuja at the moment but will move to Kaduna on March 21 to be joined by the foreign-based players to conclude preparations for the encounter on Friday. http://www.supersport.com/football/super-eagles/news/160308/Obaje_insists_on_six_points_v_Egypt |

The Nigeria striker has failed to add to his 15 goals this season with his last strike coming against Nottingham Forest in the Emirates FA Cup. "It will come to an end I believe, because I'm working extra hard," Ighalo told Completesportsnigeria.com. On the speculations linking him away from the Vicarage Road in the summer, the 26 year old forward says he's not distracted. "I have a five-year contract with Watford. The rumours will continue as long as I am doing well, but I am not having any sleepless nights and will finish the season well." Ighalo also predicted tough games for the Super Eagles when seven-time African champions, Egypt, visit Nigeria on March 25 in Kaduna and in Alexandria on March 29. “It won’t be an easy game, I won’t lie. But it’s possible to win, we have what it takes to win. We will fight for the whole game to win,” Ighalo enthused. http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/ighalo-not-distracted-goal-drought-upbeat-nigeriall-beat-egypt/ |
Columbus Crew Coach: Adi Is One Of The MLS Best Strikers https://i1.wp.com/www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Portland-Timbers-adi.jpg?fit=710%2C450&resize=350%2C200 By Adeboye Amosu: Columbus Crew head coach, Gregg Berhalter has showered encomiums on Nigeria forward, Fanendo Adi after the striker hit the winner for Portland Timbers in the 2-1 win against his team in their Major League Soccer opening day clash, reports Completesportsnigeria.com. The prolific striker who scored 19 times to help Timbers win the MLS Cup last season scored the decisive goal 11 minutes from time. And despite his side going down to another defeat against the Timbers who defeated them in the final of the MLS Cup last term, Berhalter was full of praise for the former Ukraine- based hitman who has been invited by Nigeria's caretaker boss, Samson Siasia for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Cup double header against Egypt later this month. "How many guys are like Adi in the league," Berhalter asked during his interaction with the media after the game. "Listen, he is a big, big boy. He uses his body really well and I like said, there is not too many guys in the league like him." Adi joined Portland Timbers on loan from Danish side, FC Copenhagen on May 13, 2014 and the deal was made permanent the following month after his impressive showing for the club. He settled down well at Timbers netting a pair of braces in his first two starts for the club. He once had stints in Slovakia with AS Trecin as well as Metalurh Donestk, Dynamo Kiev and Tavriya all in the Ukranian League. |

The Nigerian international had a hand in all three goals in Raja Casablanca's 3-0 win over KAC Kénitra 3-0 at the Municipal de Kénitra stadium to move up fourth in the Brotola League. Babatunde was also adjudged the man-of-the match award after the game. Raja coach Rachid Taoussi told infomedia.ma.: "His (Babatunde's) game management is exceptional. He's not been in this kind of form for clubs over his career without showing qualities. "He has been an important influence in the team and we functioned better as a team with him. He can be great for us because he is enjoying himself on the pitch again." With Babatunde in the squad, Raja have won four of their last five league games and the 22 year old has scored twice. Siasia was appointed coach of the Eagles on interim basis to take over from Sunday Oliseh who announced his resignation in the face of criticisms after Nigeria's ouster at the 2016 Africa Nations Championship in Rwanda. Ekpo and Fuludu spoke to Completesportsnigeria.com on the chances of the team to defeat Egypt and enhance Nigeria's quest to grace the AFCON in Gabon next year. "Samson Siasia has been there before as Super Eagles coach and will not be deterred by the fact that his team are playing against Egypt," Ekpo said. "The Egyptians are prepared for the game and I want to believe there have been some checks by the Eagles coaches on their opponents." Speaking on the comments attributed to the Nigeria Football Federation boss Amaju Pinnick who declared that the federation will no longer hire a Nigerian coach for the Eagles, another former Eagles midfielder Fuludu believes that will not affect the focus of the coaching crew led by Siasia. "I do not think Amaju Pinnick's comments will affect the coach's focus. I think the comment made by Pinnick was out of anger and there will be a rethink. It cannot and should not be a policy statement. Read Also: CAF Confed. Cup: Nasarawa United Boss Confident Against General Foot "The vicissitudes associated with football encapsulate flexibility. Balogun who missed the Eagles last three games on account of injury was earlier left out of the squad for the encounter before being recalled told thenff.com's youtube channel that though his omission wasn't an issue for him, the reaction of Nigerians fans on twitter saw him overwhelmed with their love. "It wasn't a big problem for me because, it's a new coach who has been there before and knows so many players, but I was overwhelmed by the reaction of my exclusion from the initial list on Twitter," Balogun told thenff.com. "I respect the coach's decision because he knows so many players. It's shows that what I do make people happy," Balogun who is pleased with the form of his team in the Bundesliga also said he was comfortable playing in his new role as centre-back at Mainz. "I started the season playing at right back but injuries to one of the centre back saw me continue in that position," Balogun remarked. "Playing as a centre back has always been my preferred role." The former Darmstadt defender who has suited 17 times in the Bundesliga also believes the Eagles can beat Egypt. |

He will need to have all cylinders firing against Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti and Blaise Matuidi when they clash at Stamford Bridge in the week's big game on Thursday. Image credit: FRANCK FIFE/AFP/Getty Images Chelsea are walking into this encounter on the back foot and Paris Saint-Germain only need one goal to seal progression to the Uefa Champions League quarter-finals. An away goal from Mikel is the only slim hope the Blues have of turning the tie on its head. Bertrand Traore was on the scoresheet this weekend, and could feature against the Ligue 1 side, following his recent showings for Guus Hiddink’s side. Abdul Rahman Baba has come on leaps leaps and bounds since his introduction to the Chelsea first team, and on Wednesday he could well feature, particularly with John Terry absent. Stamford Bridge will not be a friendly venue for a side that dashed the London club's hopes in last season’s competition. Baba certainly held his own during the first leg in Paris, and he will hope to do the same on Wednesday night. Roma have the thankless task of going to the Santiago Bernabeau trailing Real Madrid 2-0. This Champions League match has all the makings of a one-sided affair, with Los Blancos coming into this encounter on the back of 7-1 thumping over Celta Vigo. Mohamed Salah and his team will have their work cut out for them when they meet Zinedine Zidane's resurgent outfit. Image credit: Getty Hull City frustrated Arsenal in the 0-0 draw at the Emirates last month, and the Championship side will look to put up a fight in the FA Cup replay at the KC Stadium. Mohamed Diame was a solid anchor in midfield in the first leg, and has been repaying the faith of Steve Bruce. If the Tigers are to seal progression, he will need to make his presence felt in the middle of the park. Despite a shaky first-half showing, Nana Asare put in a solid display in the second stanza, although the German outfit claimed a 3-2 win in the first leg. Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s charges will need to be at their best at both ends if they are to become the first-ever Belgian side in the quarter-finals. Wolfsburg will do themselves an injustice if they underestimate the attacking force of Gent, and Moses Simon needs to be firmly under the watchful eye of the German defence as the Wolves look to see through their passage to the final eight. The Nigerian winger has been a consistent figure in the Belgian side and could be the catalyst for an upset on Tuesday night. Siasia says Nigeria can thrash Egypt 4-0 again https://africanfootball.com//bp_images/2016/03/siasia_pondering_2_1.jpg Siasia Nigeria caretaker coach Samson Siasia has said he believes the Super Eagles can trounce Egypt 4-0 later this month as they did in October 19977. On October 8, 1977, the Eagles thrashed the Pharaohs 4-0 in a 1978 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the National Stadium, Lagos, with the inimitable Segun Odegbami bagging a brace. Skipper Christian Chukwu and John Nwadioha got the other goals. Siasia said discipline, strong mentality, self-belief and support of Nigerians can steer the Eagles to heights attained by their predecessors, who pounded the Pharaohs 4-0 in a FIFA World Cup qualifier in Lagos in October 1977. “We can recreate October 1977; why not? The home –boys have come in and full training has commenced. Everyone is rearing to go. By the time the foreign–based players arrive, the competition will be what we want,” said the confident coach. “I insist that we have invited the players who are capable of giving us the three points in Kaduna and another three points in Alexandria.” Apart from being two points behind the Egyptians on the Group G table, the Eagles also lag behind the Pharaohs on goals scored. The Pharaohs have scored eight, while Nigeria have scored two in the two matches played by each team, meaning the Nigerians have to start racking up the goals. All the 19 expected home boys were in camp as at Tuesday afternoon, as no other person wanted to suffer the fate of Segun Oduduwa, Usman Mohammed and Stanley Dimgba, who were on Monday barred from showing up at the Bolton White Apartments after reporting late to the camp of the intermediate squad. http://africanfootball.com/news/617564/Siasia-says-Nigeria-can-thrash-Egypt-4-0-again |

The quartet of Jacob Njoku,Suleiman Abdullahi,Ejike Chidera and Ezeh Charles Chinedu will most likely join Belgium side Sint Truidense VV if they succeed in the trials they are set to undergo with the team. We gathered Sint Truidense now have a working relationship with Liverpool in area of player exchange and the four Nigerians who are not eligible for work permit will be loaned out immediately after trials. However the youngest of them will reportedly be given scholarship to study in the UK and also train with their U-18 but all of this is subject to them passing in the trials fixed for later in the month. The 19 year old took the match ball home after after scoring in the 52nd,58th and 70th minute of the seven goals thriller that saw his team move up to 7th in the Leumit League in Israel which is the second division. So far Uzochukwu has four goals from 9 league games a tally that has raise his stock in the country although a move away from Hapoel Afula according to reports gathered by owngoalnigeria.com looks unlikely at least for the next two seasons. Though he is eligible to represent the Arsenal U18s, England U17 international Tolaji Bola did not make the team sheet. As for Liverpool, former Golden Eaglets trainee Ovie Ejaria made the starting lineup while Holland youth international Bobby Adekanye, who has struggled with injuries this season, was not among the traveling party. Ovie Ejaria was lively throughout the contest and had a good chance to give Liverpool the lead in the 14th minute but his shot in the 18-yard box went over the bar. The Anglo-Nigerian spent close to seven years at Arsenal before he transferred to Liverpool in 2014. Stephy Mavididi and Kaylen Hinds were on target for the Arsenal U18s while Masterson struck for the visitors. Igho Kingsley http://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=18134

denniece1:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This was the last thing I read about her transfer, but recently an article refered to her as a Liverpool ladies as you can read before this very post. Thanks Asisat Oshoala: Liverpool Ladies accept Arsenal's bid for striker 26 January, 2016 https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/59DC/production/_87940032_asisatoshoala2.jpg Asisat Oshoala featured for Nigeria at last year's Women's World Cup Liverpool Ladies have "reluctantly accepted" a transfer bid for striker Asisat Oshoala from fellow Women's Super League side Arsenal Ladies. The Gunners have activated a release clause in the Nigeria international's contract with the Reds. Oshoala will now hold talks with Pedro Martinez Losa's side but the move is subject to the 21-year-old receiving a work permit for the 2016 campaign. Oshoala was named the BBC's Women's Footballer of the Year in 2015. She joined Liverpool ahead of the 2015 WSL campaign and scored three goals in 12 league outings last season. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/35411170 |
Nigeria: Oshoala Rues Missed Olympic, Visits Hs Media Group https://d19lga30codh7.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/OshoalaArsenal.jpg Former CAF and BBC Women's Player of the Year, Asisat Oshoala who paid a courtesy visit to HS Media Group on Thursday has expressed sadness over Super Falcons failure to qualify for the Rio2016 Olympic Games. "It's a very bad feeling. It could have been my first Olympics for Nigeria. It's unfortunate that I wasn't there when the qualifiers were played because I was injured. A lot of key players were absent in the qualifying game as well. Sometimes these things happen in football, we are not perfect and things don't go smoothly for everyone all the time," Oshoala said. https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/59DC/production/_87940032_asisatoshoala2.jpg Asisat Oshoala featured for Nigeria at last year's Women's World Cup Looking agile and smart as usual, Oshoala who was at the HS Media Group to build a mutual relationship with the media outfit before the kick off of the English Women's Soccer League season on Saturday where she is expected to make her debut for the Arsenal Ladies, blamed the low points of her career last season on her injury with the Liverpool Ladies. It was a lay off that cost the young Super Falcons striker a chance of playing in her first Olympics with the failure of the Falcons to qualify for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics and also pushed her out of reckoning for the CAF Women's Player of the Year award for last season. Oshoala believes the new crop of coaches in the Falcons led by former captain, Florence Omagbemi and assisted by two former skippers, Ann Chiejine and Pepetual Nkwocha are capable of restoring the team's image in the continent and moving the senior female national team to greater heights. "We are not going to the Olympics, but we still have the Nations Cup to play this year and we can still go for the trophy and get something for 2016," the former Liverpool striker said. On the choice of switching from Liverpool to the female Gunners for the new season, Oshoala said: "Well you know sometimes in life you have to take a step further to make the difference in you, it's going to be a strong challenge, but I'm ready to make the difference." Oshoala is also confident that her new relationship with HS Media Group will yield good fruits. "I work with my spirit, I work with myself. Once I'm convinced that something will work out, I follow it through to the end. I know is going to be successful," Oshoala said. http://allafrica.com/stories/201603040919.html |

Eagles vow to beat Pharaohs in Kaduna https://d19lga30codh7.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/EAGLES11.jpg BRAZIL, Campinas : Nigeria’s team members jog during a training session in Campinas, Sao Paulo, on June 18, 2014, during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. By Jude Opara SUPER Eagles interim coach, Samson Siasia, yesterday revealed that he has re ceived full assurance from the key players of the Super Eagles of their readiness to ensure that the Pharaoh’s of Egypt are beaten convincingly when they clash on March 25 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna. Siasia, while unveiling the list of 42 players invited to camp ahead of the double header AFCON 2017 qualifying match, noted that the players assurances have spurred him to more action, insisting that nothing would stop the Super Eagles from defeating the Egyptians in Kaduna. He noted that with such assurances from players like John Obi Mikel, Victor Moses, Odion Ighalo and Kelechi Iheanacho, the technical crew is full of confidence that the Egyptians will be beaten very well in Kaduna. The former Super Eagles striker also disclosed that the NFF has helped him to acquire about six video tapes of the past games of the Pharaohs, which he is currently studying, adding that the tapes would guide him in mapping out his strategies to beat them in Kaduna. One good thing here is that I have received the full backing of the players. I spoke with most of them and they have assured me of their readiness to die on the pitch to ensure that they beat Egypt in Kaduna. I and the technical director have agreed that these are the list of players we would use to prosecute the two games.” I carefully selected them and I want to make sure that I know them very well. It is going to take me only three days to train the players before we play Egypt in Kaduna, so there is no much time. “I have picked about six video tapes of the Egyptians, we have to watch them carefully and look at their pattern of play and we translate that on how will play them. That is the only way we can overcome them. I have found out that about six of their players played with us in Senegal. We are playing at home and we must make sure that we win at home, no matter what it takes us. We have spoken to the likes of Mikel, Moses, Odion, Iheanacho and others; they are all ready to play. They told me “coach we are coming to do it and play for you”, which is a good assurance, so we want to go out there with a positive mind to make sure that we put smiles on the faces of Nigerians. I am going to give over a 100% of my time to make sure that we win those two games. I am full of confidence, as long as the boys play to instruction, we do not have anything to worry about”, he assured. Nigeria: Why Enyeama Is Not On My List - Siasia By Joshua Odeyemi Super Eagles head coach, Samson Siasia has said he omitted former team captain Vincent Enyeama from his 42-man list to prosecute the double header Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt because the Lille of France star was not ready to return to the fold. Siasia disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja while responding to questions from journalists immediately he released the list of players invited to camp ahead of the two matches on 25th and 29th March, 2016. "I called Enyeama a couple of days ago when they made us to take over these two games [against Egypt] and I told him that I wanted him to come back, that I need him to be a part of this team. "He told me about what happened to him [during the reign of Sunday Oliseh as coach], how he was disgraced. He said he wanted to play but that he is not ready emotionally right now. I told him that he should let me know whenever he wants to play." Siasia noted that he had to let shot stopper be for now because he doesn't need a player who is emotionally broken in the team, adding that: "but I still keep the doors wide open for him if he decides to come back because we need guys like him for this game." Enyeama decided to retire from the national team after being stripped of the captaincy band last October by the then Head coach Sunday Oliseh. The coach however, said he was not in contact with West ham United striker Emmanuel Emenike who also announced his retirement immediately Enyeama left the team. "I have not spoken to him yet. I read in the papers where he said he is not playing. If he is not playing, why should I call him? We want guys that are ready to play; we don't want to beg anybody to play for this country." http://allafrica.com/stories/201603040069.html |
